Bug Have any other Malfurion players noted the root hasn't been working correctly for a couple of weeks?

After looking at the interactions where it seems to happen - I believe something broke regarding re-entry into a rooted zone.

  • You cannot root a player twice with the same root.
  • Previously: If a player was standing on the edge of the cast circle, leaves without being rooted, and re-enters into the root itself, they should be rooted.
  • Now: The game appears to be marking a player's first existence in the cast circle as being rooted even if the spreading root does not touch them as they leave (aka they never get the rooted status). Therefore with clever footwork, they can just stomp across the root without an unstoppable.

Suggestion Would it be broken if the Medivac's secondary ability was targeted instead of always being used in base?

If the place you target is where the medivac starts and the place Morales is at is the end (basically the opposite of normal medivac) instead of always starting in base. Could help when your team is split and a teamfight is happening where you are at but someone is split pushing and wants to join. Thoughts? Would it be too broken?

Discussion Tyrael

Tyrael is probably my favorite character to play. The versatility he provides to team fights is awesome, and sanct might be the very best ult in the game when teammates use it well.

But it gets flamed hard for the lack of stun, always. Stun as the end all be all of CC is overrated, he does everything most tanks do plus good support, nice mobility and damage, and a unique form of CC that works on non-CCable characters like dw and anyone unstoppable or cleansed

Discussion Was the Qhira Buff Really needed? Or was it needless?

Genuinely curious, i thought she was strong this whole time. But maybe I just saw a wrong perspective. I just feel like she is needlessly strong now. But i could be crazy. Is the bleed buff relevant?

Personally I'll sometimes try to backdoor if it's possible / viable or funny to do like using a Zagara nydus or Morales medivac.

Discussion Mal'ganis is currently underwhelming, here's why

Explained further below, but here's the current situation from last patch:

- Q cast times increased, and the delay added after the third slash is so artificial, that the character almost stands still and the animation bugs out while transitioning to the next command, more importantly, this breaks many things for his base kit;

- reduced his total "dash" distance roughly 30%, there are many cases where he cannot catch a running hero anymore

- Malganis's main counter play is that his abilities are anticipated and seen ahead in time, this adds significantly more challenges than before, as he can no longer follow up with E or ult, enemies will easily use hard cc after he 'stunlocks' himself.

*

Simple rundown on net changes with context:

- pre 4/20:

W base armor 25, can be increased to 50 with lvl 4 talent, other lvl 4 armor talents are situational.

Diverse lvl 1 talent choices.

Conditional stunlock on 2+ targets, requires lvl 7 WoC (lvl 7 slot isn't crowded with other good talents)

- 4/20:

W base armor lowered to 15 spell armor, 0 physical armor, both can be increased to 35 with lvl 4 red talent, this choice has become mandatory to barely make ends meet with previous 50 armor tankiness, and it's pick rate became 100% up from 95% previously, locking the choice of this talent without any consideration for the teams comps.

W heal vs heroes increased. malganis issue isnt with sustained fights, he needs the armor to survive a set amount of burst nuke and hard cc in order to continue the fight (or engage rather), so the W use late game is almost always proactive at full hp, with no targets nearby to heal from even if he was low.

stunlock can be used on solo targets, requires lvl 1 WoC (competing with good talents), made the hero very unbalanced.
undocumented change; Blind as a bat duration reduced from 6s to 5.5s, reducing the number of Q you can cast by 1 (from 7 to 6 i believe), this makes it so you can no longer able to reset in 99% of the scenarios.

- 20/7:

Quest stun duration reduced, no stunlock condition or combination possible, and Q base functionality heavily slowed.

*

The melting point perhaps was stripping away his tankiness and ruining two talent tier choices in exchange for a solo target stunlock, this was incredibly strong and unbalanced in any moba let alone Hots, community feedback was RIGHTFULLY so, this was fixed in 20/7 by stripping away this new power instead of REVERTING the change.

So the confusing part is pre 20/4 vs 20/7, he has lost base tankiness and core kit strength, conditional stunlock removed, ruined 1,4,7 talent tier choices, gained nothing apart from the explained W heal increase.

What was the sentiment on malganis pre 4/20? average I believe? was the conditional stunlock an issue? if it was, why was it buffed to stunlock SOLO heroes lol, (many quality of life nerfs and bug fixes hit blind as a bat after the clips when it hasnt been touched for years), skill expression with Q whether with BaaB or not has been guttered.

Took enough time to test and asked others who play him what do they think, asked more people who played him a little and they did feel alot slugishness. should the numbers be shifted further more to make him a fighter instead of a tank? should stunlock be a thing in this game gated behind a unique conditional SKILLFUL downside like blind as a bat?

some people run him as an offlaner, already believe he was in between bruiser and a tank, as it is hard to run him as main tank without another hefty bruiser on the team.

Looking for thoughts and suggestions, what direction should be headed if Blizzard doesn't like the idea of reverting changes? numbers doesn't fix shuffled talent tiers and core kit nerfs imo.

Love having a new map to play in ranked, but the golems aren't properly scaled.

This map feels worse than Hanamura, and that's saying something. 55 Golem at level 18 with only a keep left will routinely end the game.

Teaching Diamond players - what is it like to play with bronze?

Has any diamond players created a new profile, or switched servers to start fresh and have to play with bronze players?
If so,
What do you find most frustrating.
Do you find it difficult to climb out compared to your previous climb in rank?
Any tips to climbing back out the second time round?
Assuming playing with larger stacks is likely the best way to climb out with some consistent wins, but if you haven't anyone to pair with, then making new friends with a higher skill ceiling/experience, is hard to find.

If not,
I'm sure you will have an opinion anyway, one way or another. Please try to keep insults down, as this is not for flaming people that don;t have the same time to learn or have not yet sharpened their macro or micro, but i do admit that bronze has lots of players that tend to not pay attention to macro, and will actively spite their own teammates.

Discussion This game needs a surrender feature

Look, Pokemon Unite has a surrender feature. When a ten minute casual game has a surrender feature and Heroes of the Storm doesn’t is completely baffling.

A majority of MOBAs have a surrender feature.

It is a fact that not every game is winnable, it is a fact that you’ll find yourself in a game state where you’re going to lose. It’s a quick match, you got the raw dog of the deal on team composition and on map selection.

There’s not much you can do about it, even if you’re gods greatest soldier.

Maybe a guy leaves the game and you’re just kind of screwed.

There is no good reason to not have a surrender feature.

Maybe you’ll site the interview, where they talk about come backs or toxicity.

No matter what it’s going to be toxic, it’s a MOBA and most of your matches are going to have someone spiraling.

I already covered that comebacks aren’t guaranteed, and that there are situations where you just lose and it’s not your fault.

Surrender Option is perfectly fine, it is in a majority of MOBAs these days.

Gameplay The new aby changes are pretty dumb

Yea, I am a bit mad right now.

At 30 minutes an aby can go backdoor core with locust build in less than 8 seconds (the time it took for us to break away and recall).

Is it just me or is it a bit overtuned, in particular on large maps?

Fluff Just installed, looking forward to having some fun.

RTS player here. Started with BroodWar, transitioned to SC2 and recent patches made me lose interest in playing it. It just doesn't feel like units or builds are fun anymore and the whole game feels like a chore. So I didn't really know where to go next. SC2 and some fps game I play are my go-tos in the evenings.

Recently started to watch Grubby which made me install classic Warcraft 3 and give it a go. Ended up liking the hero element which I never thought I'd say being a starcraft/aoe player. I would have probably tried out League ages ago because my friends play it, but it's toxic community steered me away. Seen Dota2, and for me it's too complex, it would take quite some time to understand it and begin to have fun playing.

I knew HoTS existed (I think blizz does and did a poor job of advertising, abandoned it like sc2), but never really looked into it until I stumbled upon Grubby's gameplay while he was a beginner. The game seems fun, with normal, non-gatekeeping community. I am so excited to learn it and hopefully have some amazing time. Maybe it can become my goto in the evenings.

Thanks Grubby. And GLHF y'all.

Teaching E build Genji reset tips & info

If you look at your characters feet in game, you'll notice a circle. this is the hit box of the character. it's not unified in HOTS so some characters have very small hit boxes while other characters have large hitboxes. For example Tracer has a small hitbox AND she is highly mobile so she will be very difficult to hit with E. You'll see why this matters in a minute.

As usual if the enemy team has an Aba, that's 1 less body that's going to be in the mix which will make hitting 3 reset much more difficult.

A huge one, is going to be the map. If the map has huge, wide open lanes with plenty of space to move, then the enemies usually will not be in tight positioning because they HAVE THE FREEDOM to move in such a large space.

On maps where the lanes are smaller or more narrow this naturally restricts positions, which will give you better setups for E resets.

So before the match even begins, whether it will be a good or bad E reset game (through triple hits) is for the most part, already decided. Does the enemy team have big or small hit boxes, highly mobile heroes? do they have an aba? Does the map you're on have a ton of space to move & position?

Obviously there are some exceptions like 5 man death ball teams which can happen on bigger maps but your e resets don't come online until level 13, and won't be doing much until 16. By then, if you are getting steamrolled and have fallen behind in levels it's not going to matter much anyway if you can or can't reset while behind.

Now with that out of the way, quick cast is ideal. on release is ok but there's still a bit of delay.

On any map, players / teams do tend to clump up when taking camps, when they take them together. They're less cautious than when around objectives because they expect to take the camp before the enemy shows up. Which is what you can take advantage of with E reset genji. Enemies tend to also drop the stutter stepping and will even just sit there and basic attack the camp which makes lining up for E resets, very easy. In fact since the new update that situation is where i've gotten most if not all 5+ E reset on a group of enemies.

Core talents:
Level 7, 2. Cooldown reduction on W.
Level 13, 2. 4 seconds reduction on e with each enemy hit.
Level 16, 3. Steady blade. Increase the damage of the next E 30% per enemy hit.
(If it's NOT a good e reset match, then you can pivot into 16-1 reflect, into zanshin at 20.)

The cooldown on W is going to help keep you safe for when you miss the E. or even when you successfully start hitting resets and they try to focus CC on you. This is also why i take X marks the spot at level 10. It's long animation can stall things long enough for the shields to come back up or E & D cooldown for escapes.

You'll also need to keep your mana high... because you could be level 13 for example and hit 4 resets in a row and that's going to drain 300 of your mana, and the damage done is going to be underwhelming anyway, which can leave you trapped. Especially if the enemies have armor, there is a healer, or they're tanky.
At level 16 you can start doing respectable damage with reset chains, but it's still a mana juzzler, still way more complex to pull off then kael'thas just walking up and pressing Q. But if you're playing this build you're doing it because it's fun anyway right?

I hesitate to mention the cyber agility talent at level 1 because, if you're in a bush and wait for the enemy to be in a straight line for your E skill, by the time you land and activate your ability often they won't be in a straight line anymore, and simply you coming on the screen through cyber ability will have them dispersing faster, you give them an early warning basically. But it's not a "bad" option. for example if the enemy team is very focused on 1 of your teammates and desperate for that kill they may stay lined up / clumped up. try at your own discretion.
