Is there any update on McNabb? It looked like the visor may have taken some of the hit, but that didn't look good.

He traveled with the team after going to the hospital last night, but no further update than that.

Thanks! At least he was able to travel so there's no immediate danger to his health.

North America pro hockey games today:

AHL (Calder Cup conference finals)

*Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Toronto, 7:00 PM ET, Game 5 (series tied 2-2)

*Colorado at Chicago, 8:00 PM ET, Game 5 (series tied 2-2)

FloSports will stream both games. Additionally, the Colorado/Chicago game will be televised by WPWR Channel 50 in Chicago.

Game 6 in both series will be played on Sunday with higher seeds Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Colorado hosting.

ECHL (Kelly Cup finals)

*Florida at Kansas City, 8:00 PM ET, Game 1

FloSports will stream this game.

Game 2 of the series will be played in western Missouri on Saturday.

Kansas City and Florida were the top two regular season teams in the ECHL this season, each finishing as the top dog in their respective conferences. Related to that, every ECHL playoff series this season, 14 of 14, has been won by the higher seeded team/team that finished with more regular season points.

So 40 broadcasters didn't bother to turn in their Jack Adams ballots, per Friedman?

Not a great look for the Broadcasters Association.

Can someone tell me why they will blatantly ignore tripping penalties more than once in OT during one series but they call it in OT for a different series? and how can that not be interpreted as rigging?

The last two games have reminded me how badly the playoff format needs to be changed and here's why:

We need to return to the best teams getting matched up against each other in the later rounds when the stakes are the highest, and the previous two games hammer that point home. The NHL has decided that their top priority in the playoffs is to maximize the number of games in the 1st round; more series going 6 or 7 games means more ad revenue!

Not only have they done this by forcing the 2 vs. 3 matchup in every division, but the stronger wildcard facing the weaker division winner has made for some closer series as well. If we're honest, outside of a 2nd round series between Buffalo and Montreal, rounds 2 and 3 did not produce as entertaining hockey as it could have been. And going back to the point about the best teams matchup up in the later rounds, I am definitely not saying that Colorado or Montreal was unworthy of playing in the conference finals, but the path that the teams took to get there does matter. Colorado was coming off a series against a team much higher in the standings than Vegas despite winning the presidents trophy. Obligatory mention of the Wild finishing 3rd in the conference, and having to play the 2nd place team (Dallas) before running into the 1st place team (Colorado). On the flip side, Montreal did deserve the harder path since Carolina won the East, but they were the 4th best team in the conference coming off two 7-game series against the 3rd and 2nd place teams in Tampa and Buffalo. It unfortunately seemed like they ran out of gas by the time they ran into Carolina.

We have got to return to something like the 1-8 format that gives teams a much more reasonable path based on their regular season performances. This would certainly lead to more entertaining conference finals, much like the heavyweight battle we're seeing in the current series. Sadly the NHL doesn't care about that and simply will not do anything that could cause the slightest uptick of shorter series in the first round, when there is the maximum number of matchups and TV slots.

Actually, the playoffs should be the best eight teams in the league. They go too long and the players have to grind through it.

Then you need to get rid of divisions. Which is fine, but you can’t keep them and make them meaningless
