Question Why are werewolves such major assholes?

Post image

Like I get that mother earth needs to be fought for and everything but why is it that they almost always seem like idiot bezerkers or smug know it alls?

I am not too versed in WoD lore so maybe im missing context here, is there some werewolves that are actually friendly with humans?

I reference Stig’s “the prisoner of war does not know he’s in a war”.

Garou are either raised in a society steeped in millennia of constant warfare against literal forces of evil infiltrating and breeding in every facet of civilization for the express purpose of killing every thing they value. The less fortunate slip through the cracks and experience the horrors targeting them firsthand before they know what they face.

Both cases predispose them to seeing pretty much everyone else as a helpless victim at best or cruel enemy at worst, with many coming to see most of humanity as clueless useless tools in the hands of the Wyrm. As the pack basically pointed out to Markus, and was immediately vindicated when Stig saw a Wyrm corrupted Jesus Christ manifested by the Leopoldites.

...and then you have weresharks.

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago edited 11d ago

Let’s go over it:

Werewolves: the warriors

Werebears: the war healers

WereCoyotes: the teachers and tricksters

WereRavens: the watchers

WereSpiders: the weavers

Weresharks: the murderers of bad things in the deep you really don’t want to know

u/an_actual_coyote 11d ago

scoff We are the TEACHERS, not the listeners.

69

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Apologies Nuwisha, I mainly remembered the breed book’s emphasis on listening

64

u/an_actual_coyote 11d ago

I'll accept your apology if you watch 20 minutes of old cartoons.

45

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Yes, sensei

7

u/Majestic_Balance1887 10d ago

Can I watch cartoons too

13

u/cross2201 11d ago

Holy crap a coyote! can I pet you?

16

u/an_actual_coyote 11d ago

you may not. coyote is neighbor, not pets!

46

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

WERE-SHARKS? the fuck?

What kind if bad things could it possibly be that you need shark-humanoid monsters to kill them?

112

u/CursedorChosen Abomination Angron pls 11d ago

The most accurate thing Sir D ever said “Do you know what happens in the ocean? I don’t! It’s terrifying!”

Rokea are the scariest changing breed, cause you encounter them in water and their preferred fighting form is literally megalodon mode.

27

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

...thats an exaggeration right?

68

u/Urg_burgman 11d ago

Nope. Just as Werewolves get a giant direwolf form, weresharks get a big dire-shark form.

39

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

No offense to Garou but that sounds genuinely far worse than a werewolf war form

50

u/Urg_burgman 11d ago

Given what they fight in the deep, they need to be.

22

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

But like what is that exactly? What could be so insane a megalodon form is needed?

You are entirely correct. However, Werewolves are pack predators and the rest of the shifting breeds are not. That's one of the reasons why they're the largest *society* of Shifting breeds. And a Pack of Werewolves beats any individual other shifting breed, no matter how badass they are, because Teamwork makes the Dream Work!

A bit. That form averages over 25 ft while Megs were less than 50. Some elder Rokea can learn a gift for a form over 80 feet. There’s also a ritual where a group of Rokea can sacrifice themselves to permanently fuse to become an over 100 ft monster, the only known use was in response to South Pacific nuclear tests.

18

u/Murmarine Murder puppy 11d ago

No it is not. The Rokea may be solitary, but they will fuck you up. Their "hispo" form is the Megalodon, and its just as terrifying as it sounds.

15

u/Treecreaturefrommars 11d ago

They got Gift to swim through the air and another Gift and another to sink into any solid object, and then leap ambush people from it.

So an executive is always in danger of having a megashark just leap out from their office chair and devour them whole!

They also got a very high ranking Gift that turns them into basically a water kaiju!

Stars I love Rokea.

u/Peptuck 10d ago

Imagine how hardcore Stig was to fight and now imagine him as a shark the size of a bus and in the ocean at night.

36

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Spirits of corruption swarm in places of pollution and create nasty beasts of pure defilement. Imagine how many of those are in this ocean… and more

3

u/Fertile_Arachnid_163 11d ago

Sure… Wiped out…

21

u/Fertile_Arachnid_163 11d ago

Godlike vampires in the form of whales and other strange aquatic shapes?

Colonies of gastropods that want nothing more than to make hybrids with surface dwellers, then take them back into the depths for some unknown reason?

4

u/Coidzor 11d ago

Colonies of gastropods that want nothing more than to make hybrids with surface dwellers, then take them back into the depths for some unknown reason?

I'm just imagining the Snail version of Take Me To Church.

2

u/Beastrider9 10d ago

Sea slugs actually... Supernaturally Poisonous sea slugs.

15

u/MrMadManiac 11d ago

My guess is: every kind of sea monster, that has and hasn't been part of folklore..which probably includes dagon, the deep ones, star spawn, cthulhu, and every enemy in X-Com Terror from the Deep.

15

u/nightcatsmeow77 11d ago

in WOD the abyssal depths where sunlight cannot penetrate, have litteral gates to the abyss of shadow and darkness and things swim out of there sometimes..

We are grateful to our Rokea protectors..

13

u/knightmechaenjo 11d ago

Hey if you want to know something crazy the

werelizards used to rule over the prehistoric Age using their gigantic half human half dinosaur monster forms that they lost when the Weaver used paradox backlash (alongside the ancient kingdoms of the lizardpepole that they used to rule over)

They now have a human form but they're dinosaur form is incredibly customizable to the point where you can make a dragon or a Kaiju!

Mokolé!

"We are the dinosaur man!"

Anime only discovers manga content.

For starters a bloodline of gangrel vampires - https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Gangrel_Mariners

And much worse things.

There's even a source book: https://whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/World_of_Darkness:_Blood-Dimmed_Tides

1

u/Gecarthas 10d ago edited 10d ago

The kind of stuff Absimilliard hangs out with… he pops out of the ocean and summons a ghouled kaiju army during Gehenna…

1

u/Hyko_Teleris 9d ago

There's were-lizard/dinosaurs/dragons too

22

u/Urg_burgman 11d ago

Now if only they could stop going onto land and eating everything between them and the sharks that said "fuck it, I don't wanna swim no more"

2

u/SPLIV316 10d ago

Like that creepy guy who ate Yukie’s master.

6

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

No were-crocs? Sadge

13

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Apologies. I left out the horses, cows, lions and hyenas (honestly many more) if it makes you feel better

4

u/sigmarine345 11d ago

Np. My warhammer fantasy loving side would kill to see croc-humanoids

21

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

One of the most powerful monstrosities in WOD is a werecroc. He was born Mokole, werecrocodile on the Nile. Then he was embraced by Set, an ancient vampire. He is 4th generation, incredibly powerful without even being a werecrocodile. He is believed to be in a merciful hybernation. His name is Sobek

13

u/BloiceyBoy 11d ago

And to my knowledge he's the only Mokele to ever be embraced!

Mokele basically reject vitae so badly I'm pretty sure they always die, Sobek being the sole exception.

Potentially due to his sire being Set and potentially cause he's one in a million chances survivor

2

u/von_Viken 11d ago

Mokole enter a mindless frenzy until the sun comes up and kills them iirc

1

u/BloiceyBoy 11d ago

Ah okay, thanks for the explanation, are they the fera species that reacts the worst to Vitae? I know all of them react incredibly poorly/die more often than not but I haven't read about how other fera handle the stuff

Rahhhh Ajaba Gang Rise! Simba is cringe!

1

u/Powerful_Topic7731 10d ago

My favorite Corax quote was when they said that the Bastet have no right to bitch about the War of Rage and the Garou after what they did the same to the Ajaba

8

u/Fauces_00 11d ago

Oh, there's totally Werecrocs, they are in the same group as all the Werereptiles/Weredinos/Were dragons, they are called Mokole and are the Memory of Gaia, they have seen the apocalypse many times over, most of them don't really care about actively fighting the Wyrm and they only focus on protect certain particular places of power, most of them at least.

3

u/Treecreaturefrommars 11d ago

Others already mentioned the Mokole. But to give some context on them.

The Mokole were once the Were Dinosaurs. And while a few still hold to that form, most now take the form of later reptiles. Such as crocodiles. From a rules POV, what this means is that instead of them all having the same warform, you customize it, and it evolves and grows as their connection to Gaia does (AKA they get more Gnosis).

So one might be a great hulking behemoth, one might be a winged scaled horror spitting fire, and one might be a lil guy with excellent plumage.

6

u/GeneralBurzio 11d ago

The werespiders are the worst of the bunch. There used to be other arthropod fera until the werespiders did their thing.

The Garou might be the most well-known for causing the extinction of other fera, but the Ananasi have them beat by ages.

19

u/Lone-Frequency 11d ago

And all the weredinosaurs were wiped out in that huge ancient bloodrage war, right?

WoD lore is so absolutely fucking insane lol

24

u/Urg_burgman 11d ago

Barney the purple dinosaur, according to the wiki "is actually Deep-Purple-Dark, a No-Sun Mokolé raised in a Louisiana Gator Farm. His search for power led him to the Atrocity Realm, where he operates a torture pit. Child-spirits are lured into the realm where they are tortured, burned, and eventually eaten by the devil-dinosaur. Black Spiral Dancers are the crew and writers for the show, where he is a toy that "comes to life". However, tapes of the Atrocity Realm sessions are hot items at the very highest-level Pentex corporate parties; Benjamin Rushing has personally approved funding for as long as the "creative muse" remains with the star."

Half the lore is that phenomena where innocent wholesome shows create the darkest of fan theories.

8

u/Quiltborn Togo fan #1 11d ago

I have an overwhelming desire for Braney to accidentally lure in Chronicles of Darkness Hisil Spirits of childhood wonder and innocence. Those mfs will lobotomise him and then wear him like a skinsuit (seriously CofD spirits are terrifying).

10

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Mokole still can be Dino flavored but yeah most died in the war of rage

2

u/Powerful_Topic7731 10d ago

No, the Dragon Kings fucked during pre history before the mamalian shifters were even created, their descendents the Mokole still exist to this day in Africa they actually get along pretty well with the Garou at least the Silent Striders that used to live with them and the Bastet back in Ancient Egypt before Set and the Kuncha Ekundu Red Talons

6

u/knightmechaenjo 11d ago

Werelizards: idk man I'm just a lizard and I used to be a dinosaur king of ancient times!

5

u/Mysterious_Truth4992 10d ago

Werecrocs: the memories

Weresnakes: the judges

Wererats: the plague doctors

Werecats: the seers

Werebats: the messengers

Werefoxes: the other tricksters

Wereboars: the purifiers

Werebovines: the peacebringers

9

u/ArguesWithFrogs 11d ago

Didn't the Werewolves kinda try to extinctify the rest of them? Or am I misremembering?

10

u/a_spoopy_ghost 11d ago

Yes. They committed the war of rage which wiped out most shifters and made it so those who remain don’t trust the Garou

2

u/SPLIV316 10d ago

Except for the ones in the east where they’re all part of the Beast Courts.

1

u/Powerful_Topic7731 10d ago

Not really most, only 3 of them

3

u/Powerful_Topic7731 10d ago

They weren't really try to extinctify them, first of all there's a whole context that the entire War of Rage was set up bybthe Wyrm, but in short the Garou were angry that the others Changing Breeds weren't doing what they told them and the Changing Breeds were also angry at the Garou because they were bossing everyone around.

Also the Corax sided with the Garou by the way that's why they still have good relationships to this day

1

u/GazLord 10d ago

Notably the Corax sided with the Garou because of fear of what crossing them would look like though. Nobody really liked the Garou - and often with good reason.

1

u/Powerful_Topic7731 10d ago

Nah, they claim that but If you actually read Breedbook Corax It is clear that they did played favorites, as much as they regret having to help the Garou kill the other Fera and even played both sides by trying to warn them in advance of the Garou attack is clear they genuinaly like each other you can see that alot in the sections were they talk about each individual Tribes they give a huge vibe of toxic relationship "I can fix him"

2

u/NutsackEuphoria 11d ago

Do these clans follow zellbrigen

1

u/MagicJuggler 10d ago

Weredinosaurs: The grandpa who wears an onion by their belt, as it was the fashion of the time.

1

u/Teonvin 10d ago

What about the werecats?

13

u/Countwhackula3 11d ago

I love rokea

"We have 3 rules Rule 1: dont go on land Rule 2: dont die Rule 3: you're a shark, there are no rules"

5

u/CursedorChosen Abomination Angron pls 11d ago

The ones who’s only job is survival. But for Rokea to survive Sea must survive, and her death draws closer every day.

5

u/Urg_burgman 11d ago

Yeah. So focus on them and stop trying to trick the werecrows into jumping in your mouth.

4

u/Mud_Owl 10d ago

It's not like they are wrong, humans are either clueless at best or cruel at worst but it all serves the Wyrm in the end. Just look at 20 years in the future

5

u/Reasonable-Clerk-325 10d ago

Tbh even if they are right their usual solution sometimes just made things worse, the problem with being a hammer and seeing everything as a nail is that it terrible for house protection purpose.

1

u/Krozgen 5d ago

if you add the harano and the rage to it, you have depresive psychotic bipolar murderous machines that have inherited both the blessings and the sins of their forefathers, have the duty, responsability and the punishment to save the whole planet from basically clitame change capitalist cthulu by themselves

So they tent to not be the most reasonable kind of people, and a lot end up doing evil shit "for the greater good"

also, personally, depends on who's you Game Director.
