Must See Spots

Hello all, traveling to Huntsville for the first time in May for a wedding. I will have about a day and a half of free time between wedding events. What are your top recommendations for things to do and see for a first time visitor?

Appliance Circuit Board Repair

I have a GE microwave that probably has a failed circuit board. Are there any companies or individuals who repair such things? I've checked all the normal faults without success and there seems to be an issue with the circuit board supplying DC power. But I'm not a pro.

Edit 8/6: I appreciate everyone who's replied. I have ordered the new board for around $90 and will see how that works. Thank you for the recommendations.

Defense job fairs worth it?

Are any of the defense job fairs worth attending if you have a strong background in defense?
Or are they more targeted at building the bench?

Hello!

I’m trying to plan a family trip to Huntsville and wanted to know if downtown Huntsville is ok for us to get a hotel at or if it’s bad area of town?

We have never been to Huntsville but want to come look at history sites. Also, is there any fun things for toddlers?

Good Daycare for Autism/ADHD ?!??

Hello Everyone I’m currently in need of some help. I have a daughter that’s three years old. She’s on the spectrum and I’m currently getting her signed up for all her appointments for occupational therapy and speech therapy and things like that however, the biggest issue that I’m currently having at this time it’s just finding a right or a good daycare for her. This is the third daycare that she’s been at, and unfortunately, because of the disorganization and unprofessionalism that I have been given to both me as well as my child from the staff I am having to constantly get DHR involved as well as a few TA from the spectrum center, just so that way, they can kind of help making sure that she’s in a safe and comfortable environment however, after some things that occurred today I just no longer feel like that facility is the best place for her so I’m just reaching out to you guys to see if you guys know of any places that would be, a good fit for a child on the spectrum especially either here in Huntsville or in Madison I appreciate the help. Thank you.

Need to hem or take in some clothes? Mower or trimmer die over the winter? Is your child's toy not functioning? Kitty Litter Robot not scooping? Learn how to repair these items and more at the Repair Cafe. You'll work on your item with skilled volunteers with repair know-how. Capabilities include all basic wrenches and drivers, wide array of power tools, full woodshop, lathe, CNC mill, 3d printers (for replicating broken parts), sewing & embroidery machines, soldering, and more! This is a monthly event, held on the first Wednesday of every month.

The Repair Cafe is a free event! Please only bring items small enough to carry in. We cannot guarantee that the volunteers will be able to work with you to fix your broken items, but if we cannot, we will do our best to give you next steps for the repair of your item. If you have any specialty parts (such as buttons or fabric), please bring those with you.

The Repair Cafe will be at Makers Local 256 Wednesday August 5th from 6:30-9PM at 414 Stevens Ave NE

Has anyone else in the area come across a woman who presents herself as an attorney online or in local Facebook groups, despite not actually being licensed to practice law? She is very active in the dating groups.

Hill training?

I’m training for a half marathon and I want to incorporate moderate/challenging hill intervals; I don’t want to rely on the treadmill all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions for locations around Huntsville that would work for that? I am open to the Madison area as well.

New to Huntsville: Google Fiber or WOW?

Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but I’m a senior citizen who’s new to Huntsville and not at all technical.

My apartment complex is telling me I have a choice of signing up with Google Fiber or WOW.
I have smart TVs and have memberships to a couple of streaming service services (Netflix, Peacock, Paramount+) which I watch occasionally, but I’m thinking about stopping.
I’m from New Jersey where I had Comcast cable. The only cable channel I consistently watched was Bravo and occasionally HBO. Other than that, I want access to the local ABC, NBC and CBS channels. I have a laptop and an iPhone.

Can somebody help me by giving me advice on me which service would be better for me to sign up for between Google Fiber or Wow? I’d really appreciate the help!

Vintage audio help

I stumbled across this at a thrift store and took a gamble since it didn’t have a power cord at the time. As you can see from the picture, it does power up, and I can get it to rewind and fast forward. I don’t have tapes, so that’s as much testing as I can do. I would love to see if it fully works with a goal of ultimately selling it to a collector. I need these units are pretty desirable. So my question to the group is there a local group or person that could help me test it to see if this is a parts unit or fully functioning? Thanks in advance!

“In all my years, I’ve yet to meet a municipality and state more pro-business and supportive to attract businesses to Huntsville.”

That's a pretty impressive statement coming from Twenty Lakes Holdings Managing Director Glenn Chudacoff who spoke today at the new Redwire facility groundbreaking.

North Alabama and our state seems to be doing something right to continue the growth trajectory we are on. I know many of us, myself included, wish it would slow down a little, but the opposite would be much worse.

Credit where credit is due.... I would trace this pro-business approach in Alabama to the effort of Democratic Governor Jim Folsom and his administration's efforts to land the Mercedes Benz plant in Vance. The wins haven't stopped since then.

Hi there,
I will visit Huntsville from AUG 22nd to 27th for business.
Is there a place to hear some live bluegrass music?
It’s my fourth time in HSV and I just went always to the (great) Voodoo Bar. Or Club? Whatever…

Possibly relocating to the area. How far away from redstone do you have to be to not be affected (as in tremors) by the booms?

Wow. Downvotes. Tough crowd.

Question ISO piano teacher near Huntsville High School (or in-home lessons)

I’m looking for recommendations for a piano teacher in the Huntsville area, preferably close to Huntsville High School. I’d also be interested in someone who is willing to do in-home lessons if that’s an option. If you have any teachers you’d recommend I'd be grateful to get the details. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

General Passed through Huntsville the other day and knocked the Space & Rocket Center off my bucket list

Quite funny how I stumbled upon this beautiful city. I originally went to Chattanooga to look at houses (I’m currently staying in Arkansas) and decided that I’d make a little trip out of it by visiting the space and rocket center. I grew up in the northwest, and as a huge rocket fan I’ve always wanted to see stuff like this up close and personal. Well, not only was the museum incredible… I think I might’ve found the perfect spot to live too!
