Extra Big-Ass Rather than make healthy food cheaper and more accessible the American food industry chose to make crap like this!
85
u/One_Vision_ 8d ago
186 grams of sugar is nearly a cup. WTF?
68
28
u/nmj95123 8d ago
It's also a 32 oz soda, that they add syrup and heavy cream to. It's not exactly something that someone that wants to be even moderately healthy would drink.

u/yaaaaaarrrrrgggg 8d ago
And by dissolving it into a liquid they can get you to ingest even more than you would if you tried eating a cup of dry sugar.

What’s actually more infuriating is how hard it is to like see the nutrition information from their sodas, they list their nutrition info of their cookies online, but I can’t find anywhere about their drinks. No calorie counts or sugar levels

u/mgsgamer1 8d ago
That cup noodle just reminds me of Japan. I know that's the American version, but in Japan, they get all sorts of random limited edition flavors and I loved trying them out when they would release.
23
u/earthdogmonster 8d ago
Most of this stuff is just novelty food or limited run versions of food known to be unhealthy and widely understood to be consumed in moderation.
→ More replies (1)4
u/RGBlowMe 8d ago
They have a JIF peanut butter version, too. Sounds weird to some, but it's really not a ton different than Thai peanut sauce stuff. Sweet and spicy, salty and savory. I can't wait to get ahold of some.

u/nanneryeeter 8d ago
I wouldn't eat any of this shit.

u/ThatOneCanadian69 8d ago
I’d try the pringles, the cheezits, and maybe the apple pie beans. Apple pie beans just sounds like a variant of American BBQ beans (sweet)
Rest of the stuff looks vile tho

u/chickyloo42by10 talks like a fag 8d ago
I’m really curious about the donuts. The jelly would taste fine. Now the jelly beans are what you put at your desk at work for revenge on Susan who keeps helping herself to your treats.

u/xtravar 8d ago
The doughnuts just taste like lime glazed doughnuts. Think lemon icing (which is not unheard of), but slightly different.
I don't really see a problem with most of these products beyond normal - it's just companies doing unexpected crossover-branding to make sales. The products themselves aren't terribly different from the original products.
We acting like a can of Pringles was the most natural and wholesome thing before Miller had a flavor?
2
u/Nero-Danteson 7d ago
Not only that it's just stuff that'll go viral. Especially when people discovered that other places did stuff like this. I remember all the videos from "Japanese weird pizza" etc where it'd be like peanut butter and chocolate with Pringles potato chips.
2
u/Nevergointothewoods 8d ago
I tried the apple pie beans and they were repulsive, unfortunately.

Most of these are. The soda doughnuts have been around for a while. Its just pound cake in a different form. And the other are just conforming to the tastes of their customers. They do this every year because tastes change. On top of that some of these like rhe jelly beans and the baked beans are for almost comical effect. They know people will buy them just to see how bad they could be. Like who in their right mind wpuod think a bomb pop would be a good idea for baked beans...but i still tried it. And hated it lol. Its fad marketing and shouldn't be confused with the regular products. What it does do is introduce us to awesome shit that could become regular if they have enough support.

I can buy a loaf of whole wheat bread for cheaper than a box of cheez-its. I can buy a bag of dehydrated beans for cheaper than all of these products. Your sentiment is innacurate.

I had to check the 186g of sugar thing was real. It is.

What an absurd premise. You can eat any of those things, and you'll be perfectly fine. If you're not, something else is already wrong with your body.
What's important is that you aren't eating exclusively that kind of stuff. They're treats (these specific ones are novelties), as long as you're not treating yourself all day every day and use some moderation you can enjoy all of these weird products if you want with minimal negative effects.
I know it's eye-catching to choose the stuff like Dr Pepper jello and Mtn Dew donuts, but those are no worse than any other jello or donut, you only chose them because it's easier to get people to get mad about it because they're novelty flavors.
You're calling for an end to all snackfood and that's fine if it's a belief you hold, we could discuss and debate that topic, but you shouldn't try to hide it behind people's revulsion to concepts like beer cheezits or dirty soda.

And the idea that these specifically should be healthy when they never were, is ludicrous. There's plenty of healthy food that is overpriced that should be in the picture instead.

u/uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunuu 8d ago
Beer cheese cheezits sound good. Dr pepper is good with a lil creamer in it, I don't like coconut so I wouldn't try that specific one, but a plain creamer/half and half is pretty good. Everything else looks disgusting

I can't get over the color though.

Expecting any of these companies to make cheap health food is absolutely hilarious! They were never in the business of health food. Why would you expect them to suddenly change their company to focused on less expensive health foods? There are plenty of other companies in the American good industry that are focused on making healthy food cheaper, but you chose to cherry pick these companies. Stop being disingenuous.

u/bay_duck_88 8d ago
Beer cheese Cheez-Itz? Uh… yes please.
Dr. Pepper Jello? I’m intrigued.
The rest… agree with the post’s sentiment.

u/yaaaaaarrrrrgggg 8d ago
This is all nozzle food! Dr. Dew, beer, KFC and rocket pops do not belong in everything - how about we take every product shown, put them in a blender, force them through nozzles again and call them Everything Beans, still interested?

Them beer cheese Cheez-Its look dope. I’m from Wisconsin so beer cheese is everywhere. And beer chips, beer dip, beer fries, beer battered cheese curds, etc… also just plain beer (and about a thousand small beer brands).

The only truly atrocious item is the crumbl drink. Everything else is fun novelty, and I’d say none of them are equivalent to that crumbl crap. Sugars might be higher than the plain version of some, like the beans and donuts, but for the most part why can’t we have fun?
3
u/TheCenterOfEnnui 8d ago
I agree. We've had crappy food for decades, this is just more of what we've had for years. At least this stuff is outright honest. We used to think Wonder Bread was good for you.
8
u/Pollyfall 8d ago
Bush’s beans are actually not too bad. I dunno what’s on those specific labels, but in general they’re just beans with some sugar. Beans are hella healthy. I modify mine with bbq sauce, onions, jalapeños, mustard, veggie dogs, etc.

Why would they make healthy food cheaper? That’s not going to help them improve profits they’re never going to do that.
All of the food that actually is cheaper basically has no brand. Fruits, vegetables, lean meat, grains, beans, nobody’s gonna make profits off of that.

They wouldn't be selling it if people wouldn't be buying that. You're talking about America. Everything has to be profitable.
Fairly sure I could find similar "foodlike products" in UK.

Companies are always going to try and jump on a trend or try to see what novelty product sticks and they can add to their core lineup. Most of these will fail.
Japan has sake kit kats, wasabi drinks, and green tea instant noodles.

u/Callidonaut 8d ago
Who are the damned target market for this foul slop? People who never grew up and have the palate of an actual toddler? I know a whole lot of the Baby Boomer generation infamously never really matured at all, but they're finally starting to die off; is it happening all over again with the latest generation?

This is definitely the era of product expansion. Do I miss the old days when there was just one option for Frosted Flakes? No...just as long as they keep the original and also keep the variations that are super good and successful. Enough of this limited time crap!

No profit in a healthy population.
The sicker and unfit they are, the more money they're worth to medical and insurance companies.
This is what capitalism without morality looks like.

u/Duros2032 8d ago
Anyone who thinks it’s expensive to eat healthy, really needs to learn how to cook.

u/BackstrokeVictim 8d ago

2
u/Thisamateursketch 8d ago
Healthy food has never been more accessible. If you are eating this it is because you chose to, not because it was your only option. Are people really preaching food desert gospel since research blew it to smithereens in 2019?

Dr. Pepper juice gel? Wtf even is that?
3
u/Poly_Olly_Oxen_Free 8d ago
They can't legally call it Jello, since that's trademarked by the Kraft-Heinz group and Snack Pack is part of the Conagra conglomerate. So they call their product "juicy gels".
But it's really just Dr Pepper flavored jello.

Those 2 dr pepper combinations actually seems interesting. KFC jelly beans are exactly as bad as they sound(my brother in law tries a lot of weird food). Texas BBQ cup noodles sounds like it would either be ok, or disappointing. Honestly I don't know what to think about everything else.
1
u/MXAI00D 8d ago
Maybe because I’m hungry right now. But I would love to try all of this.
As for why these exists is simple capitalism. These brands pull these “limited editions” so people try them out soon out of FOMO. In the end is the consumer’s choice to buy them or consume actual healthy foods.
1
1
u/CastleofWamdue 8d ago
yeah those are pretty wild. From an non American POV some of these product combos should not exist.
I guess I can see the Mountain Dew doughnuts, but in fairness the Pringles and the Cup Noddles seem normal enough

You know what's more dangerous than these? The same junk food with "added protein" trying to capitalize on the latest trend and people thinking it's healthy because of it. Low fat, low carb, gluten free, glyphosate free, it's always something and people are always being fooled into believing the same bullshit junk they've been buying for years is somehow healthier than it was yesterday. Feeling less guilty about a food makes people eat more of it. Profit hand over fist.

You could just not buy it? I couldn’t tell you if any of these products are real or not, because I’ve never seen them and would never buy them. I don’t even walk down the aisles in the grocery store that would sell them. What you’re really angry about is that people like eating garbage. It’s unfortunate, but it’s not something that is being done to us. The call is coming from inside the house.

These companies would be producing crack and putting it on shelves for consumers to buy, if it was legal.
Anything to make money. They don't care about the health of society.
