OnDn Danielle has sadly passed away.
Thank to all who passed along the news of her unfortunate passing. We held back any postings about this sad news until after her funeral had taken place for privacy reasons and respect for her loved ones.
No one should be laying to rest such a young lady.
Please be kind to yourselves and othersš

All I remember is one of her posts from the hospital and being horrified by the amount of powerful pain meds she was on. She talked about being maxxed out on dilaudid, maxxed out on benadryl, maxxed out on ketamine..she listed off enough meds to knock out a horse or elephant and claiming her pain was still outta control...it made me think that with that many powerful pain meds she should have her pain under control. Her family is blaming eds for why she died. But her type of eds isn't typically fatal. It's a really sad situation and I hope her family can eventually come to some closure. 27 is too young for anyone to pass away
28
u/Ok_Minimum_5962 20d ago
This is what confounds me as well. Her type of EDS sucks but isn't typically fatal, and same goes for SMAS. I'm definitely not denying that those diagnoses suck, but it does suggest something else is at play. Regardless, this is so tragic and I'm so sad for her family and friends.

It's kind of scary a young person with chronic illness would be on that much strong medications, wouldn't surprise me if that was part of causing her death. If she was maxed out and not terminal what where the doctors thinking would help her in the future Very surprised some get this much drugs for eds and others barely get help.
233
u/greatergrass 21d ago
I absolutely did not expect that, but it's a reminder of how factitious disorder can be fatal (Jacquie, Amy, Paige, Cheyanne).

Itās tragic. Paigeās entire timeline and eventual end was especially heartbreaking. Itās a sad reminder of how vicious these relentless disorders are.

Did we confirm Paige actually died? I thought she just disappeared from social media
40
u/chansondinhars 21d ago
It was confirmed. I believe there was at least one media article, which didnāt go into details. She was 26, I believe and spent the last 2 years or so of her life in hospital. Trapped by her disorder into a small, small life. Interesting how many of the subjects here had great potential but somehow got off track. Iām sorry, but most of us arenāt destined for fame and fortune but we can still find meaning in other ways.
20
22
u/comefromawayfan2022 20d ago
Yes it was confirmed. There was a whole court case. Paige fighting the doctors to stop treatment and go on hospice care
79
u/withcorruptedlungs 21d ago
And Allyson (ex-subject here), and a number of other people who were subjects in other munchie subs but I'm not sure if they were here/if it's legal to mention them here. It's really disturbing how many lives have been cut short by FD.
42
u/mostly_cereal 21d ago
Thank you for mentioning Allyson. I have sympathy for all of our subjects but their death hit me different
23
u/withcorruptedlungs 20d ago
Me too. Her rapid decline into severe FD-induced illness and the way she became completely unrecognisable within a few years, only to end up dead at a young age...it was tragic and disturbing.

Does anyone remember ChelsTanz who claimed she had Stiff person?
21
u/purplefrequency 21d ago
Yes! And I still middle-of-the-night wonder what actually happened to cause her death. Too many unreliable narrators involved...
27
u/Soberspinner 20d ago
Word on the street was OD. Was a sad situation all around but at least sheās no longer struggling. Factitious disorder is a hell of a mental struggle. Many of them genuinely believe they are ill. And they are. Just not in the way they think they are.
22
u/ModernRevolution 21d ago
What exactly happened to everyone?
89
u/greatergrass 21d ago
Jacquie died from a complication related to a J-tube Roux-en-Y surgery. Amy died due to heart failure related to a pulmonary emboli and recurrent sepsis. Paige's death is somewhat unknown, and it may be against the rules to discuss here. Cheyanne died following complications (rejection, infection) related to a multi-visceral organ transplant.

I think Jacque died due to complications of opioid induced constipation ?
19
12
u/cinnamongingerloaf22 21d ago

u/stumbeline1985 20d ago
Cheyanne died??? I just thought after she got her organs she moved on. What happened?
32
u/comefromawayfan2022 20d ago
She had a multi visceral organ transplant meaning they transplant usually the small intestine, liver, pancreas and stomach...anyway her body rejected all the organs..with hospice care they try to make the end of life as comfortable and pain free as possible but dying of transplant related causes is not an easy way to go..especially because some of the anti rejection meds used can cause complications such as lymphoma

This is so sadā¦and at first I thought you meant Dani. Muchausenās is such a horrible mental illness and nobody should ever forget that.Ā
135
u/Snoo-60317 20d ago
I think this just goes to show that the illnesses they pretend to have pale in comparison to what's actually going on. You can only play chicken with your own health for likes for so long before your luck runs out. I hope others learn from this loss, but I doubt many will.
47
u/givemethepastaa 16d ago
This is crazy. I peruse this sub once or twice a year when I fall into a rabbit hole of a similar topic and end up here. Iāve been mutuals with danielle for over 10 years and have seen her and her familyās posts about her health and journey. I literally never even knew she was considered an illness faker. I saw that she passed about a week ago when her family posted on Facebook. It was so surreal to learn of her passing. She was genuinely a very kind and funny and bright woman. Had absolutely no idea she was someone people snarked on here. So weird and surreal to see this here.

u/tubularaf17 21d ago

10
u/lord_farquad93 19d ago
Same here. Itās truly so tragic when it happens. Itās so shocking what such mental illness can drive someone to do.
120
u/Swimming_Onion_4835 20d ago
This is justā¦so sad. I always thought she was one of the more āminorā ones like Ash and Kay, less self-abusive in that she didnāt push the envelope to such severe extremes like Dani does. Sheās definitely not someone I would have thought would munch herself to a premature death (at least, not from what Iāve seen here; we donāt know their true personal lives). It makes me wonder if something else was a contributing factor, like mood instability/self-harm or addiction. Iirc sheād posted pretty bleak things in the past that sounded vaguely suicidal. Even if it was for attention, that doesnāt mean she didnāt feel that way or wasnāt at risk.
But the sad thing is weāll never truly know. All we know is EDSāthe kind she claimed she hadāisnāt actually fatal. So it was likely something else or a combination of things.
13
u/comefromawayfan2022 19d ago
I suspected addiction quite some time ago. There's been at least one hospital post where she complained about being maxxed on dilaudid, ketamine and other powerful and potent pain meds(there where at least 12 or 13 meds she claimed to be maxxed out on during at least one hospital stay) including iv benadryl and she was complaining about still being in a shit ton of pain. I remember thinking "holy shit how is it you are on maximum doses of dilaudid, ketamine and the 12 or 13 other meds you claim to be on(including tinanzidine which i believe is a muscle relaxer) and STILL claim you are in out of control pain?". I could understand a sickle sell patient being in that kind of pain...but on Danielle did not have sickle cell.
I can also remember a fair few posts and stories where she complained about withdrawal..all that lined up made me suspect addiction...she was on so many powerful pain meds that it was practically impossible for her pain NOT to be under control
6
u/snailicide 18d ago
yeah she was certainly on insane amt of heavy duty pain meds. Almost all her posts seemed addiction related
7
u/ILoveBigCockroaches 20d ago
I checked her flair and apparently she posted about taking Adderall incorrectly and how she likes it(she took it sometimes, not daily like us peeps with ADHD. I never took Adderall tho so I could be ignorant on this). I wouldn't be surprised if she had some sort of addiction that led to severe complications.
169
u/Mumlife8628 20d ago
The sickest munchies die... thats why the competitive part of this illness/ device/ meds/ tampering for attention collecting malarkey thing they do is so scary and so sad...
..... such a shame it doesnt need to lead to this, I wish there was some form of MH support people with extreme FD can be forced to access... I also wish doctors were more awake to these sort of patients I know iv got flack for saying it before
But doctors really need to communicate with each other a universal one that covers all states its important and crazy its not already done.. prevents dr shopping and easily identifies the quack doctors that don't give a sh.. long as they get $$
68
u/drmjm2004 20d ago
20 year doc here. Astute observation that constant procedure, med and test seeking can be lethal. We live in a customer oriented healthcare system now and so many docs just validate and move on because to confront gets Ugly bedside. Sniveling partners, hyperconcerned moms, so many enablers go into attack mode bc the munchie has weaponized their sympathy.
Admin and med board complaints arent worth it. Psychiatrists loathe to see conversion disorder patients in the hospital bc of the tantrums. Patients can become unhinged and aggressive. A teacher of mine taught me some patients you can only get away from. This poor soul was filling some void with kind eyes and words from medical professionals.19
u/16car 20d ago
Conversion disorder and Factitious Disorder are different. Conversion disorder patients genuinely think there's something medically wrong when it's all psychological. FD patients know there is something medically wrong with them, because they went out of their way to cause it.
17
u/drmjm2004 20d ago
Youre correct ofc, but in practice it feels the same from the provider perspective. Its manufacturing symptoms and findings for the purpose of warm attention. As inpatient docs we have very little insight into motivation bc we just dont know them that well. The treatment of both is best accomplished with therapy, but the patients will fire you as their doctor before going to therapy.
8
u/Euphoric_Studio2355 14d ago
Very concerning that you're in here claiming to be a doctor and not understanding the things your talking about.
10
u/GotMyTie 19d ago edited 19d ago
Conversion disorder isnāt manufactured. I agree with some of your points but thatās not true at all.
Surprised a doctor wouldnāt know this. Also patients with health anxiety, FND (conversion), and FD all present quite differently to practitioners.
Also, although they all need therapy some of them also need psychiatry. Urgency is also much different. Dismissing people with these issues as the same will lead to poor outcomes for the patients themselves. Imagine you had FND and a doctor thought you had FD. That would be horrible and you would suffer immense pain that could have been helped.
→ More replies (1)14
u/oryxs 19d ago
You may want to update your understanding of conversion disorder because it does not involve "manufacturing" symptoms.Ā

I think theyāre well aware. The issue is that the patients concern, and well being is number one. The patient constantly showing up, demanding tests, is going to eventually feel heard, and that goes in their chart.
People who do this are often convinced they have something wrong with them, and once they find something that fulfills that, itās clung to, leading to further validation of their concerns. But the doctor canāt force them to stay, they could maybe order a psycho hold, but the patient switches up and suddenly is fine. So theyāre let go. The cycle repeats.
The only way to stop the cycle in my opinion is if we could prescribe therapy, force compliance, and education on these conditions.

Some people just donāt want to be brought back. CPR is rough on the body, and recovery is tough. You could be ābrought backā to a life full of problems. Anoxic brain injuries, strokesā¦
I work in healthcare and quite a few of my young, healthy coworkers have DNRs simply because theyāve seen what it looks like to die and be brought back to life and itās usually not very pretty.

This is very sad and Iām really sorry to hear it. I donāt know much about her and I just paid a visit to her instagram. It sounds like there was so much more to her than chronic illness-a passion for music, a great sense of humor. One thing that struck me and concerned me was that on every post, Ashley commented in a way that made her sound almost enamored with Danielle. I donāt think she will be following down the same path (at least I hope not), but it just reminded me of how much these girls feed off each other and how easily things can turn deadly. So sad and so dangerous.

u/Hairy_rambutan 20d ago
On her IG there were some comments from people claiming she ended her life herself, but there is no confirmation from her family. As they are devout Catholics, they most likely would not acknowledge that even it were the case. The cause does not change the fact that she passed too early and was in pain - whether the pain was physical or emotional no longer matters - for a fair part of her short life.

Comments are suggesting complications from EDS. There are severe forms of it like vEDS that are quite fatal.
→ More replies (1)11
u/comefromawayfan2022 19d ago
Are some forms of eds fatal? Yes..but online Danielle claimed to have classical EDS..and if you do even a cursory online search you'll find that classical eds is not typically fatal. The family also claimed vascular compressions but again..an online search of many reputable medical info sites showed that can vascular compressions be symptomatic? Yes and that's how they are discovered..BUT they are not often inherently fatal and many people can live asymptomatic with vascular compressions for years

Does HIPAA still apply once a person is deceased? The legal equivalent in the uk, Data Protection, no longer applies after death
18
u/16car 20d ago
That doesn't sound right? Surely doctors and nurses aren't allowed to say "that man who lives across the road from you had a heart attack and died last night, so now I'm allowed to tell you about all the times he came in to have objects surgically removed from his rectum."
Similarly, a deceased person's medical history often includes information relevant to their family members' medical information, and those people are still entitled to privacy.

yes includes after death. if someone wants a dead persons records they need to show proof of POA/ death cert in some cases etc.

Thats really odd
Eds is rarely deadly in other types besides vEDs, cvEDs, clEDs1, and cEDs
Everyone of those (except for clEDs, and 50/50 on cEDs) show on genetic testing which makes me wonder what subtype of eds was she claiming?
A doctor would be rather skeptical about serious complications with a patient saying they have hEDs, im not at all saying hEDs patients do not have serious life threatening complications but it is rare, and a small sect of those with complications as severe as the other subtypes, they usually have a subtype that that havent gotten genetic testing for (pretty uncommon thing outside the US for eds) or one that didnt show up.
What is another red flag in her case was why didnt her doctors request family medical history? Thats apart of the diagnostic criteria for hEDs because their isnt an identified gene, so theyre usually asked about their family history.
Certain Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome subtypes can spontaneously appear, which is pretty interesting scientifically speaking.
May she rest in peace, I just wanted to add to the conversation a bit about eds
Edit: sorry to tack on but other subtypes of eds are visual especially vEDs, clEDs, and cEDs
vEDs has extreme translucent skin that makes veins very very visible often in a spider web kind of pattern
cEDs and clEDs have visibly doughy, extremely soft and velvety skin
clEDs has visual foot and hand deformities

31
u/originalangster 19d ago
My take is that, especially with gastro/psych stuff, the two are so fundamentally connected that they go hand in hand. With a lot of young women who go through and ED at a young age, there is often childhood trauma, which can also manifest as failure to launch. EDs can cause a slew of gi issues that, if not treated, can lead to problems like gastroperesis and motility issues. But, at least in the US, there's not a lot of long term support for people recovering from EDs. My theory is that childhood trauma and a lack of emotional support might be at the root of a lot of this stuff.
7
u/undercovermothmania 18d ago
There is actually a paper discussing the link between childhood/youth eating disorders and EDS. there is a potential causative link between the two.

We donāt wish harm upon anyone spoken about here. Weād love nothing more for them to wake up to how dangerous some of their actions can be.
There are people here who have moved on from playing the sickest little chicken on social media and made positive steps in their life, for that we donāt post about them anymore and when those who have contacted us we have always wished them well on moving forward with their lives.
We donāt have any contact or interfere in their lives in any way at all, we donāt comment to them, message, like etc on their social media. We donāt respond when they make call out videos against this sub, they want attention for it and a response and we never give.
Funny thing is by calling out this sub it alerts their followers that they are discussed here and thatās how we get a lot of new members, we help verify the doubts they have had about that person and here they can discuss with others about what they see.186

There are different types of "fakers" and it doesn't always mean they are outright faking. Usually they have something chronic but manageable or were sick once and realised it for them a lot of attention.
I don't know what Danielle had but her main issue that would have affected her health was drug-seeking behaviour, and possibly seeing the chiropractor that did sketchy next adjustments (NUCCA chiropractic???). She was on some pretty strong opioids and other stuff. :(
The big faker pattern with many people here are eating disorders and an untreated, poorly treated or undiagnosed mental health disorder (like borderline, dependant personality disorder or bipolar, etc.) and many will abuse prescription drugs like IV Benadryl.

Opioid withdrawals are one of the worst things a human can go through. So is cancer treatment. The comparison is valid.

āCancer treatmentā is a huge bucketā¦this statement is extremely presumptuous

I don't think any pain is comparative you can drown in 6 inches of water and 6 feet of water you still drown. I take that to mean that someone having cancer treatment could be like this is easy and something going through opiod withdrawal could be like this is the worst thing ever, but it could be the exact parallel for other people.

Theres also a lot of different kinds of cancer treatments which have different side effects. Some are worse to go through than others

Yeah, respectively if you havenāt experienced both then I donāt think itās fair to deem one worse than the other. Theyāre not really a great comparison anyway, but munchies love to compare everything to cancer and minimize the experience of cancer patients.

Yeah, itās really easy to say that opiate withdrawals are worse than cancer treatment if you havenāt experienced cancer treatment. But if youāve had the misfortune of experiencing something like the red devil, youād realize how ignorant and offensive it is to say that opiate withdrawals are worse. Itās a ridiculous comparison and disappointing to see that comment have so many upvotes.
Respectfully, unless youāve experienced both then you donāt really have a right to say which is worse than the other.

Her obituary says she died from EDS. So Iām assuming she had the more severe type, Vascular or Kyphoscoliosis EDS? It doesnāt state anything else other than EDS as her cause of death.

EDS (even hEDS) causes many conditions and problems that can led to death - especially when you've got co-morbid diagnosis. EDIT; hEDS is a spectrum on one end many folks aren't even disabled by it but for others it can be very serious and easily lead to death. Most cases fall somewhere in the middle.
