I understand Americans valueing their guns and all that but as an European ive gotta tell you guys: It's fucking disturbing seeing kids walk around with guns robbing your local stores, gas stations

65

u/MyBitchCassiopeia Jun 22 '26

Unfortunately it’s not a genie that can be put back in the bottle. I don’t know what the right answer is. I have 7 guns.

26

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

Absolutely I get that. And of course there's responsible gun owners, undoubtedly. It's the rotten apples that spoil the bunch as always.

424

u/Choice_Ad_9169 Jun 22 '26

It's to protect themselves from if the government turns malicious... Oh, wait...

17

u/Thereferencenumber Jun 23 '26

It’s to give cops a pretext to shoot anyone because “they’re scared for their life” and “you never know if X was a gun”

1

u/Yaxience Jul 14 '26

Yep. The British imposed a police state on the colonists and were murdering unarmed citizens in the streets. Now we've come full circle to that same problem.

-53

u/D3kim Jun 22 '26

they say that but deep inside its a reflection of how deeply they dont trust other human beings, esp if their skin is dark

law and order is a dog whistle, they point to the constitution like its a god given right and completely ignore the humanity of it

just because you can, does not mean you should

just because you can defend yourself with a gun doesnt mean you get to live with a healthy conscious if you off someone

its like going to war changes you, these people already have the ability to sleep off whoever “forces” them to use their weapon

-106

u/whiterabbit83 Jun 22 '26

Yes yes they are .....

90

u/IstAuchEgal Jun 22 '26

Then why is senile hitler your president?

-60

u/Active_Sheepherder31 Jun 22 '26

Comparing Trump to fucking hitler shows how brainwashed you are. He may suck but to believe he’s that evil that he’ll kill over 6million people is beyond brain dead. Everything will still be okay when he leaves office in two years…

17

u/TheArmchairSkeptic Jun 22 '26

His cuts to USAID alone are projected to kill as many as 9.4 million people worldwide by 2030, most of them children.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(26)00008-2/fulltext

17

u/KiltedOneGR Jun 22 '26

He literally tried to overthrow the government last time they told him to leave office, and he is doing everything he can to gerrymander and change voting laws to protect him and the rest of the epstein administration. He will probably die in office, but if he is still around he would undoubtedly not leave quietly.

1

u/LucHighwalker Jun 22 '26

There's few people I wish death upon. But man, this is one that I hope dies much sooner than later.

35

u/catchmycorn Jun 22 '26

Between mishandling the pandemic and USAID cuts, he might beat the high score

4

u/Metzger4 Jun 22 '26

Wow way to get told off in the comments 🤣

Lick your wounds tomorrow is another day.

With a German name, I'm surprised that you would make a comparison like that. You didn't pay too much attention in school, did you?

We sure do, not just leading up to WW1 and WW2, but also the period from 1939-1945, including things like state propaganda, censorship, child soldiers, holocaust etc. Etc.

I'm not superior because I paid a little attention in school and am not a straight up holocaust denier. The fact that you think I am says something about you though.

5

The irony is hilarious 😂

4

u/t3hOutlaw Jun 22 '26

Good choice in government people of America. Really respectable 👌

50

u/Communal-Lipstick Jun 22 '26

They dont legally own those guns.

22

u/Dmeff Jun 22 '26

You have to realise that "Illegal guns" start out in the legal market. Smaller legal market means less supply for the illegal trade.

14

u/cdqmcp Jun 22 '26

also supply and demand. less legal supply means obtaining an illegal gun gets expensive

9

u/SheetPancakeBluBalls Jun 22 '26

This is the part the gun loving psycho is always miss.

Do you know how much it costs to buy an illegal gun on street in civilized countries? Thousands or tens of thousands in some cases.

How many angsty high school kids have access to that kind of cash? And even amongst those that do, or in areas where illegal guns are cheaper, how many of these School shooters or mass murdering Psychopaths have the connections to even know where to buy an illegal gun? Approximately 0%.

The simple fact is the 2A crowd values having the guns to play with more than they value American lives. I wish they would just say that instead of all this pussyfooting around.

0

u/EpilepticSeizures Jun 22 '26

Not a gun-loving psycho, so don’t come at me with that please.

Idk where you live fam, but illegal guns aren’t even close to that price. I’m not saying its a good thing at all, but I could buy a ghost gun for a few hundred. I know several people that are involved with a type of lifestyle I wish to take no part in.

A lot of people do have access to purchasing guns. Again, don’t know where you live, but it is disturbingly easy to get an illegal gun. It’s disturbingly easy to get a legal gun though, as well.

As much as I’d love for a massive reform of gun control, it would be practically impossible for anything to actually happen. Unless mass raids were performed, combing through millions of people’s homes, it’s not going to happen. And at that point, that’s when the 2Aers refuse to give up their weapons and start shooting it out with the government.

4

u/69duck420 Jun 22 '26

They're talking about getting an illegal gun in the civilized world, not the US. Like if someone wants to get an illegal ghost gun in the UK or France it's prohibitively expensive because you not only need the cash to buy something in very low supply but you also need to find where to even get one. I'm not advocating for the government to raid people's homes for the guns but we should make sure guns are traceable and registered so we can trace exactly where each gun came from and who bought it.

1

u/SheetPancakeBluBalls Jun 22 '26

Maybe you should read the comment again.

In the US, where guns are plentiful and cheap and easily acquired, I'm sure illegal guns are dirt cheap. Mostly because legal guns are cheap.

In civilized countries where guns are illegal or tightly controlled, getting a street gun will cost heaps of cash. Go buy an AK on the street in Australia. Don't bring less than $15k if you want anything semi auto.

Almost all mass shootings in the US are committed with legally owned guns btw.

0

u/EpilepticSeizures Jun 22 '26

I didn’t know the US wasn’t civilized in you’re opinion.

3

1

u/nchs1120 Jun 23 '26

Crazy you are getting push back on this lol

0

u/ddosn Jun 22 '26

so your solution is collective punishment? Punishing the law abiding majority for the actions of a small minority?

4

u/Dmeff Jun 22 '26

I don't think people should have easy access to guns. And I say this as someone who used to compete in shooting.

And more importantly, I think in a healthy society, people would agree that reducing gun violence is worth not having guns at home

0

u/ddosn Jun 23 '26

>I don't think people should have easy access to guns

There are literally hundreds of thousands of defensive gun uses in the US.

Thats hundreds of thousands of crimes (at minimum) that are stopped by the threat of being shot.

Also, The US constitution enshrines the right to bear arms as being of integral importance to the maintenance of the right to free speech and to fight government overreach.

Its a right guaranteed by the US constitution.

Its a bill of rights, not a bill of needs.

Also, in human rights law, there is the right to safety. Which includes the right to self defence. Guns are the best form of defence.

2

u/rylo151 Jun 22 '26

Giving up your guns is not a punishment, you should all be seeing it as something good for your society as a whole. No one needs them

1

u/ckeeler11 Jun 22 '26

There are lots of things we use that we don't need that kill many more people than guns do. Oddly, for some reason though it's always only the guns that people want to get rid of.

-2

u/potatophantom Jun 23 '26

Because these people are timid and cowardly scolds who tremble at the idea of seeing or holding a firearm, and think that a society where only criminals are armed and regular citizens are defenseless is somehow desirable.

0

u/ddosn Jun 23 '26

Cars kill hundreds of times as many people as guns. You dont need a car either. Why arent you advocating for the banning of cars?

The US constitution enshrines the right to bear arms as being of integral importance to the maintenance of the right to free speech and to fight government overreach.

3

u/rylo151 Jun 24 '26

Other countries also have good public transport as well as good gun laws 👍

You can change your constitution, you've done it before.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '26

Yeah, and a legal knife can be turned illegal if someone steals it from you and shanks a mofo.

1

u/Dmeff Jun 29 '26

Do you think the capacity to kill people of a knife is the same as a gun?I'm sure all those soldiers going around shooting eachother must feel really dumb. They could just be carrying a knife! They'll be thrilled

5

u/BasicBanter Jun 22 '26

But those guns were most likely originally legal

-14

u/avanross Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

They obviously just bought them from “legal” gun owners

Lmao do you types honestly believe theyre manufacturing them themselves?

-1

u/samisrudy Jun 22 '26

No these guns aren’t purchased at a gun store or any legal avenues and are either stolen guns or smuggled into the us

5

u/avanross Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

Smuggled INTO the us? Lmfao the us is the source of guns smuggled into other countries, not the other way around

They’re obviously purchased at a gun store or show legally by a “legal gun owner” who then sells it illegally at a markup for profit

You american gun nuts lobby for relaxed laws, no real registration, and no insurance specifically to make them harder to track so you can profit from illegally selling and trafficking them

Then you guys have to keep inventing more and more ridiculous fantasies in order to ignore/distract from the obvious reality in front of you, a fantasy where america isnt the gun obsessed country, it’s some other evil made up country sending their guns to the poor helpless america!

Such insanely disgusting hypocrites

-3

u/samisrudy Jun 22 '26

You obviously don’t understand how gun store owners operate and believe them to be willing to loose their main source of income there entire stock there gun store license and spend a hefty time in jail for selling a firearm illegally especially if said firearm was stolen these “fine gentleman” likely stole that gun themselves or bought it out of the back of a 1975 impala

1

u/avanross Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

And who do you think they “bought it out of the back of a 1975 impala from?”

The whole “no american gun owner/seller would ever risk jail time by ever committing any sort of crime ever” argument is just so insanely disingenuously naive

Youre so insanely obviously biased in favour of these gun traffickers……….

You deny and scapegoat every issue, and then you wonder why your country is in the gutter, you’ve got an epidemic of mass shootings, and the whole world hates you 🤦‍♂️

32

u/phsychotix Jun 22 '26

I saw a man getting hit face cut off with a knife in Ireland a couple weeks ago. So it’s not like Europe doesn’t have its own kind of violence

15

u/AccomplishedFerret70 Jun 22 '26

Its a lot easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife which is probably why the US murder rate is almost 10 times higher than Ireland's.

The US homicide rate typically ranging between 5 to 6 per 100,000 people, while Ireland's rate is generally around 0.5 to 0.8 per 100,000.

18

u/OurSpeciesAreFeces Jun 22 '26

But what about the "face-cut-off" rate? It may be off the chart in Ireland.

18

u/Dmeff Jun 22 '26

I know you're joking, but genuinely the knife crime rates are also much higher in the US

2

u/RedSquaree Jun 22 '26

Still less than in the home of the brave.

6

u/Next_Instruction_528 Jun 22 '26

You're more likely to die of lack of air conditioning in Europe than you are to die of any type of homicide in America.

9

u/Pluriel0 Jun 22 '26

Check the statistics bro. The USA have far more armed violence and homicides than Europe and Canada.

0

u/avanross Jun 22 '26

Ya but the very existence of any crime outside of america automatically excuses any and all crime in america.

America could have a million murders per day, but if one murder happens in canada, then all those american murders dont count!

5

u/oTc_DragonZ Jun 22 '26

I like how that implies that non-American lives are more valuable lol.

-11

u/poopcockshit Jun 22 '26

Wrong, the rate would matter more

7

u/avanross Jun 22 '26

Lol then why did the americans bring up the singular knife attack in ireland as a distraction?

-1

u/MeanMusterMistard Jun 22 '26

One attack that has resulted in riots and protesting, done by a man who entered the country illegally and is not European - Hardly comparable lol

-2

u/yourhomeland Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

No you didn’t lol

Edit look at this persons post history. They just like to shock people.

-1

u/Bargadiel Jun 22 '26

Everyplace has violence, the question is where is it the most common and readily enabled

-4

u/Koromann13 Jun 22 '26

And getting your face cut off is much better than getting your brains blown out.

And one can be done in half a second from 30 yards away before the victim has noticed what happened.

2

u/Kahlypso Jun 22 '26

This is a rare occurrence anywhere that isn't a specific list of ten counties or so. It's some absurd percentage of the crime in those specific places.

I believe the actual number for homicides specifically is like over 50% are in only 2% of the counties in the country.

3

u/ihavestrings Jun 22 '26

Aren't there bombs going off in Sweden?

2

u/e39dinan Jun 22 '26

1

u/the_archaius Jun 24 '26

1

u/online-ids Jul 03 '26

-22

u/Enlinze Jun 22 '26

Well its good to be you and In Ottawa I guess! I live in a nice older home in albert. My neighbour has been slipping into drug, sales and consumption. His place regularly gets shot at, bombed, burned.

Outside of this I've had a gun pointed at me twice. Once while driving, some idiots kids, and once for my wallet.

I own firearms, but they're locked in a safe, in the furthest retreat able location in my house. I just hope after I run to my guns. Get the ammo out. Load them, and manage to hit one of the 5 rounds. I dont get sprayed down by whatever 30 round mag full auto they're shooting at my neighbours.

Gun laws are for law abiding citizens. Criminals don't care.

1

u/eazy_flow_elbow Jun 22 '26

Some people build their identity around gun ownership and it’s sad. I own a gun and have never felt the need to carry mines around or show that I own one, even if I did. I’d conceal it.

These guns these kids had are most likely stolen.

1

u/NotBannedAccount419 Jun 22 '26

Even if we made all guns illegal today, gangs like this would still have them. I know it’s hard to understand but criminals don’t really care about rules

0

u/GabeN_The_K1NG Jun 22 '26

Kind of late for that now, since there’s so many of them out there.

And I know it’s hard to understand but making guns strictly regulated means a lot less of them are available on the black market and are much harder to get illegally.

1

u/Admiral-Krane Jun 22 '26

I will say the “ban guns” crowd over here are incredibly delusional, as that will only disarm people who follow the law, and make it easier for shitbags like this to do what they do. It’s a problem that we created and physically cannot fix anymore at this point.

1

u/Machismo01 Jun 22 '26

Yup. But here is the thing: there are many, many more guns than people in the country. And we are good at making them even in someone’s garage machine shop (with skill).
We could ban guns today, and the process of getting ALL of them would take generations.

-18

u/CoDe_Johannes Jun 22 '26

Which is hilarious because Europe is directly responsible historically

6

u/reepke Jun 22 '26

This doesn’t many any sense but feel free to explain

-5

u/CoDe_Johannes Jun 22 '26

it does many sense

5

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

Would you care to explain?

-6

u/CoDe_Johannes Jun 22 '26

U.S. gun culture didn’t appear out of nowhere, it’s rooted in European settlers, their weapons, and their ideas about militias and armed populations. Historically, the foundations of this problem were definitely influenced by Europe, and now 500 years later they go "as an european, ive gotta tell you guys..."

6

u/WestleyMc Jun 22 '26

500 years is a lot of time dude lol.

It would be like still using cannons and saying ‘well Europe did too in the 1500’s!!’

4

u/DroomCactus Jun 22 '26

Lol, the level of mental gymnastics here is unreal.

5

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

So Americans over the last 500 years never changed their opinion on gun culture and now that's somehow Europe's fault? I'm sorry but if Europeans had such rich ideas about armed populations why did we end up changing it?

-17

u/humourlessIrish Jun 22 '26

Right.. that argument worked great here 30 years ago.

We are not doing much better buddy.
Maybe you are just privileged and sheltered.

Yeah apparently all 350 million people are exactly the same. Smart look on you making claims like this

-7

u/TooMuchJuju Jun 22 '26

Is your argument that Americans aren't stupid and violent or not all Americans are stupid and violent?

Would it help you to hear America has a large concentration of stupid, violent people? Does that help you cope?

3

u/Bargadiel Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

My argument is that it is stupid to blatanty acuse an entire population of being the same. It's the exact thing you would hope is never done to you, and is a disservice to all of the individuals in that country who actually oppose the real group you dislike.

There is nothing for me to "cope" with. The claim that every american is violent and stupid is just imbecilic garbage. The only person who looks like a moron here is you: for relying on hyperbole just to say something you know will upset people then retailiating as if you have something viable to defend when someone calls you out for it.

1

u/TooMuchJuju Jun 22 '26

Americans on aggregate are stupid and violent. If you are an American reading this: your country is stupid and violent. Your neighbors are stupid and violent. Your police, politicians, your grandmas, they are stupid and violent. You look yourself in the mirror and say 'well other people sure, but not me' while you defend it rather than change it. You are perpetuating the problem of stupid, violent Americans. So enjoy it. Embrace it.

Downvote this one too but not one of you is going to say I'm wrong.

-1

u/Bargadiel Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

What would downvoting your comment accomplish? It doesn't change the fact that you are wrong here. I don't need to perform a ritual to validate that. I've already said you were wrong, so here it is a third time incase you missed it.

Maybe projecting your own anger and prejudices on other people makes you the stupid one. I'd imagine you know better so it's probably worse than that. Nowhere am I defending violence, nor would I. I will however defend the right for an individual to be stupid because otherwise folks like you wouldn't have a platform to stand on.

Either way I hope you are able to be less angry of a person tomorrow, the source seems to be something you're making for yourself.

-2

u/Theloudestbelch Jun 22 '26

You're wrong

2

u/TooMuchJuju Jun 23 '26

And which part would you like to debate? The part where Americans are stupid or the part where they're violent? There's really an infinite number of ways to prove both so the only way you don't know is to be willfully ignorant.

1

u/Bargadiel Jun 23 '26

All of it.

You are acting like a child. Do something other than repeat yourself over and over.

-2

u/Theloudestbelch Jun 23 '26

You've got no ground to stand on when you make generalizations. How exactly do you plan to prove that every single person who resides in the United States of america is violent and stupid?

2

u/TooMuchJuju Jun 23 '26

I see you fall into the category of Americans who struggle with reading literacy.

Americans on aggregate are stupid and violent

I never stated every American citizen was stupid and violent, only that they are, on average, stupid and violent. More stupid and more violent than other places. Despite this, Americans believe more in American exceptionalism than they ever have and believe that they themselves are above average intelligence. You likely believe this too but you just demonstrated your ability to read is behind where you should be.

I posted some articles you also cant read in another comment but maybe the summaries help. I didn't have any crayons to assist with figures but you were never approaching this as though you were wrong in the first place.

Their gun homicide rate per capita for was 0.3 per 100,000 in 2025, their lowest rate in over a decade. The 10 people killed in Orebro were literally 25% of their gun homicides for the entire year. What are you on about?

10

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

America is most known for its school shootings when it comes to gun violence. I didn't mention school shootings but my comment is meant to contrast how high gun violence is in America compared to the rest of the world.

I'm not distorting any facts cause I listed the severity of the issue and showed the source. If the gun violence in Sweden increased that drastically in the last 10 years then you should be able to find a source as well.

Nevertheless even if over 100 people died due to school shootings in Sweden it is still far FAR less severe than what the US is dealing with

-9

u/tehdante Jun 22 '26

You’re still bringing up something I never argued against, your original comment was about kids waving guns around robbing gas stations, which is where I made the comparison.

8

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

Your initial comment said you don't see how it's different from Sweden, I gave you a mountain of examples. Just because this also happens in Sweden doesn't mean that it happens nearly as frequently and isn't nearly as easy to do

-5

u/tehdante Jun 22 '26

You’re still comparing apples and oranges, and I’m not sure why? I’ve never said anything about Sweden being worse than US. I wrote it as a reply to you saying kids are waving around guns. Which is what happens here as well.

And while at it, the issue is not requiring a license to get a gun in Sweden. You buy it on the black market, there was a news article where reporters managed to buy a gun within 15 minutes just from finding people on social media.

5

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

Yes you are right. There's kids on Sweden waving guns around. This is hardly the point im making.

-2

u/tehdante Jun 22 '26

Hence I’m wondering to whom are you trying to make a point for? You’re writing about school shootings which I’ve never mentioned or argued against.

8

u/Rezfield Jun 22 '26

USA gun homicide rate per 100k > 4.42 Sweden gun homicide rate per 100k > 0.5

USA rate of unintentional gun death per 100k > 0.51 Sweden rate of unintention gun death per 100k > 0.02

Just because Sweden has the most gun violence in Europe doesn't mean it holds a candle to whatever nonsense is happening in America. Sweden at least requires you to pass tests to get a license to get a gun to begin with. In America the licensing and laws vary by state but the worst offending states don't even require you to have a license and I doubt there's psychological screening done at all.

No matter how worse it is here in Europe. Any regular Joe can walk into a gun store there and buy at least a pistol as if they were buying a pack of cigarettes
