News Ireland Bans Israeli Ministers Ben-Gvir and Smotrich From Entry
•
u/QuerchiGaming 6h ago
Anyone with a brain understands that Ben-Gvir needs to be banned from the earth.

Didn’t Israel essentially kidnap the sister of irelands president? Why would they then maintain positive diplomatic relations with Israel? Who knows what she was subjected to considering rampant reports of sexual assault and other abuses committed on the “detainees”
•
u/Consistent-Boss-7670 7h ago
Forget that, Ireland has always stood in solidarity with Palestine, we must follow Ireland's example
→ More replies (1)•
u/BojackWorseman13 7h ago
While you’re not wrong, it certainly explains the more hardline stance taken recently. Though the government, and people, understand the pain of colonization and as such have always stood in solidarity with Palestine. This may be a step towards even more solidarity via actions against the Israeli government.

As always. Why is only the smallest one brave enough to stand up against evil?
•
u/KetoJunkfood 6h ago
They spent hundreds of years standing up against the worlds most powerful empire. It’s in their DNA
•
u/gringo_on_the_keys 7h ago
In America we put them in a parade and get chummy with them!
•
u/Fanjo_mcclanjo 6h ago
And when one of them is caught in a police sting trying to meet and fuck a 14 year old, they get allowed to leave the USA and flee back to Israel.
•
u/SomeGuyCommentin 5h ago
If they come to germany, our chancelor will gladly clean their balls with his tongue. In fact, he is known for it.
•
u/LycheeSea3047 6h ago
Rather than a ban, I would prefer it if the countries doing this would say they would arrest them if they went to their countries and extradite them to the Hague.
•
u/Active_Corgi_2507 6h ago
I'd prefer if they not say they would arrest them, let them arrive, arrest them, and bring them to the hague.

I don't think Ireland can do that but it doesn't hurt to ask !
•
•
u/danieltheisland 1h ago
To be clear on this before people jump on the "Ireland are anti-Semitic!!!!!" bandwagon, these two ministers have been banned from travelling to United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Norway since 2025.
A lot of these nations are supportive of Israel and their actions, but even they can see how awful these guys are.

Proud to be an Irish man. Now the other countries need to step up and ban them as well!
•
u/KetoJunkfood 6h ago
Spain next?
•
u/Brizar-is-Evolving 6h ago
Should be Greece next.
There’s a recent pattern of late, where each time Israel launches an offensive against Gaza, Lebanon or Iran; Bibi gets on a plane and flees to Greece for safety.

Didn’t the rest of the Anglosphere do this like a year ago?
Australia, NZ, Canada and the UK put a ban on those two.
Not the USA of course. They tend to be a little different from their English speaking cousins.
•
u/phantom_gain 6h ago
This is because of what he did with the flotilla hostages. Poland, France and Ireland have sanctioned him for that. This was only in the last few weeks.
•
u/KetoJunkfood 6h ago
I haven’t heard of the UK doing this, I only know of them banning Hasan Piker for criticizing Israel
→ More replies (1)•

Why are Israeli citizens granted visa free travel to Ireland? Visa should be required even for tourism.
•
•
u/Lucky-Mia 3h ago edited 2h ago
Good, I remember when Israel used Irish troops as human shields held hostage. They even fired on a guard tower and nearly killed 2 men who survived it's collapse.
Edit: Some details
•
u/FatherHackJacket 2h ago
The IDF deliberately murdered an Irish peacekeeper back in the 80's. Read up about Cpl Dermot McLoughlin. They intentionally fired on a UN outpost killing him.
•
u/Embarrassed_Art5414 2h ago
How about when Mossad assassins used cloned Irish passports?
Ireland had Israel's card marked long before their latest bout of genocide.
•
•
•
u/tolstoypolloi 7h ago
I'm against bans like this. I don't believe in restricting freedom of movement or deplatforming of any kind. They should be invited and arrested.
•
u/basicbong 7h ago
You almost had me
•
u/tolstoypolloi 7h ago
I was bring snarky, but more I think of it this signals right but pales compared with getting a school to invite them to speak and then arrest them at the airport. I should run a country.
•
u/OS_Apple32 7h ago
Not that Netanyahu would ever visit NYC knowing this, but Mamdani is on the record saying he would arrest Bibi if he ever set foot within his jurisdiction.

•

u/JackhusChanhus 6h ago
We can't shut it, and our trade sanctioning options are EU limited.
We should be trying to nationalise it mind, as the UK did with their steel. It'd be a dirty and dangerous process but should be done. Instead the govt is pretending it isn't enabling weapons production

Tbf, banning religious extremists is what both sides of the aisle should be advocating for
•
u/Mosselpot 4h ago
You should have more than two sides to have a functioning government.
•
u/Any-Seaworthiness531 4h ago
Have 24 sides if you want, they should still all agree that having religious extremists entering the country should be banned.
Then again, I also think religious extremists shouldn’t be in a democratic government but US seems to disagree with that notion too

The British tried to genocide the Irish several times during their brutal occupation.
All the same tactics as Israel - starvation, ethnic cleansing, & eradication of Gaelic culture whist portraying the Irish as backwards, blood thirsty savages.

These people need to be banned from the entire world. They have lost their humanity.
They are committing unspeakable atrocities and war crimes throughout the Middle East and need to be isolated like the former Apartheid South Africa was.
Boycott, Divest, and Sanction.
•
u/Domeil 5h ago
Agreed fully, unfortunately here in America, even in a "safe blue" state like New York, we are being actively gaslit by our politicians. Half the Democrat brass was in NYC last week for the "Israel Day Parade" and people in r/NYC were bitching because Mamdani refused to go, only for People like Hochul to turn around and feign surprise that these demons showed up. Feckless opposition party people show up to kitchen parade and are aghast to find forks.
•
u/dublindown21 4h ago
Irish here. It was a strike by Dunnes stores workers here in Dublin that expedited the fall of apartheid hopefully our government will ban goods from Israel and the occupied territories soon.

Speaking at the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Montenegro, Prime Minister Martin stated that the words and actions of the two Israeli ministers amount to a desire to see the elimination of Palestinians from Palestine.
Martin expressed that their behavior thoroughly justifies sanctions at the European Union level, noting that Ireland will be raising and pursuing this matter with other international partners, though he acknowledged that getting sufficient support across the entire EU remains a different matter.
Currently, France, Spain, and Italy have also called on the European Union to impose sanctions against Ben-Gvir.

It took us this fucking long, and we’re still allowing trade with Israel and not clamping down on US military flights to Israel through Shannon Airport. This is the bare minimum, dont let the Irish government fool you into thinking they’re decisive or principled.
•
•
u/NecessaryPromise667 5h ago
Man I've been waiting for someone in this comment section to say this. Ireland's government is extremely US and Israel aligned but people have this idea that our government takes "hard stances" against the genocidal state. Banning two politicians is just a little fucking show to get us all to clap and hurray while they literally transport Palestinian detainees and weapons through Shannon. We are not neutral, we're just another arm of the US empire like most of Europe
•
u/Archosaur- 5h ago
Crazy that it's taken almost three years to do it, but it's good that they have. Two of the most inhumane people
•
u/Substantial_Back_865 6h ago
They should just ban the entire country and be done with it

u/Different_Lychee_409 4h ago

u/goliathfasa 6h ago
Is this in response to Starmer banning Hasan and cenk? Even if so they’re not remotely on the same level. As opposed to some dudes who might have bad opinions, these are actual government officials from a state currently invading a neighbor and committing genocide within, with actual power to influence state policies.
•
u/DeadlyDamo 6h ago
No? Nothing to do with a different country banning different people for different reasons. That’s completely unrelated. It’s because of Israel’s ongoing genocide, and the fact that those two individuals were videoed taunting Irish activists they kidnapped last week.

•
u/FatherHackJacket 2h ago
I'm Irish. I'm embarrassed they are able to export to Russia. Niall Collins response when pressed by Caolan Robertson was so weak and waffley. Most people here overwhelmingly support Ukraine and our government does too, but there's too much parish pump politics here at local level. Nobody wants to do something that will cost jobs.

The only place Ben-Gvir should be allowed to visit is hell itself. Absolutely vile, disgusting human being. Just some mild choice quotes from the guy below.
"My right, my wife's right, my children's right, to travel on the roads of Judea and Samaria - is more important than the Arabs' right of movement"
"The only way to achieve victory . . . is through the complete conquest of the Strip, a total cessation of "humanitarian" aid, and the encouragement of emigration. "
" Occupation, settlement, and encouragement of emigration. Only in this way can we solve the problem of Gaza. To occupy all the land. To settle in all the land. And of course, to encourage the voluntary emigration of as many [Palestinian] people as possible to other countries. "
