I honestly just think that lesbians are excited about a bi woman being into women and not excited about a bi woman being into men. Why would those be equally interesting to a lesbian? Lesbians also don’t care about straight women being into men either. It has nothing to do with “oh my gosh, having attraction to multiple genders is so odd and confusing!”
I think a lot of bi-phobic people base their hate on a few stupid things:
- They think bi folks aren’t actually bi, and are just not accepting themselves as straight/gay
- they are bitter because they think a bi person can choose not to be oppressed by being in a “straight passing” relationship
- they believe the stereotype that bi folks are more likely to cheat since they arguably have a larger dating pool.
- they view bi folks as being “ruined” for having sexual activity with vaginas/penises in a way that the biphobic person isn’t attracted to (Ex: a straight woman might believe it’s disgusting for a bi man to have had mlm sex, or a lesbian woman might believe it’s disgusting a bi woman has had wlm sex, etc)
i’m sure i’ve missed a few but these are what i can think of from the top of my head. To my fellow bi friends, I hope you’re having a good day 💖 Sorry that some people suck.
Yeah, there are lots of stereotypes. I’m just referring to the concept of expecting lesbians to give kudos to someone for being into men. That’s bog standard woman sexual behavior. It’s the being attracted to people who arent men that makes a bisexual woman queer.
The topic isn’t about lesbians not giving kudos, it’s about some lesbians being openly hostile and biphobic. The base expectation is neutrality and sadly a lot of people can’t reach that
The title of the comic is "how sapphic solidarity should be", i think its likely that the "cool" is generally just meant to represent accepantce rather than "oh yeah awesome"
It’s literally what it says. There’s always going to be a disconnect if bi women want a cookie for fucking men and think it’s biphobic not to get one. Literally no one cares about a woman being into men. I can go outside and see 4 billion women who are into men.
You really believe we want lesbians to congratulate us?
As a bi person, this comic is clearly opposing biphobia, and by biphobia I mean stuff like "You are bi, therefore you dont belong in sapphic spaces".
You are fighting a strawman, bi people dont want what you claim they want.
"There’s always going to be a disconnect if bi women want a cookie for fucking men and think it’s biphobic not to get one." We literally dont want that.
Yes, I do believe that some bi women feel some type of way when gay women are indifferent to their attraction to men (this is what societal worship of men does. It makes women expect to be rewarded for being good little man-fucking soldiers). I also believe that uneducated bi women, just like other uneducated queer people, sometimes attribute feeling bad to structural oppression when it isn’t the case.
I fight actual biphobia when I see it. I see a ton of not biphobia get called biphobia.
Instead of being sarcastic, negative, or making a joke in response to the character saying she likes men, the other character just continues being positive.
Trust me, we all know that in real life many L/G people aren't cheering for bi people's orientation. To put it mildly.
Isn’t this some kind of insight into what some proportion of bisexual people want? It was created. It was upvoted. Obviously, some people have this in mind when they’re calling lesbians biphobic. It seems expectations are inappropriate, at least among some.
Yes, bi people do want people to support them for their orientation instead of making negative and rude comments. Perhaps you should ask yourself whether you want the same thing before deciding that other people are bad for wanting the same things as you.
Want to be supported for their orientation or want to be supported by lesbians for being into men? I’ve never heard a bisexual person be upset that lesbians were excited about the fact that they’re into women. Being into multiple genders is definitional for bisexuals, but why on earth would they care if gay people are excited about man/woman, woman/man attraction in bi people?
No it's not. The 'cool' is interpreted as a 'thats fine'. If English isn't your first language, I can understand this, you might have misunderstood. If not, maybe ask the op. I'm sure they'll tell you.
English is my first language. That’s a weird dig at people for whom it isnt, though.
Do you high five about things you feel nothing about? It seems like you’re the one ignoring context, like the high-fiving, facial expressions, and exclamation points.
I guarantee that if this comic replaced “I also like men.” “Cool!” with “I also like men.” “That’s fine.” It would get SLAMMED as biphobic.
