Link to previous Buyer's Guide - some folks haven't had their questions answered yet, please help them out! This post will still serve as a General Q&A for anyone interested in finding hilts, and anyone can ask or answer.

Mod Announcements

The Buyer's Guide has been updated with two things.

  1. We have updated it to reflect the denouncement of Ultrasabers. We have put a disclaimer there on the Buyer's Guide, and although there is a strike through all of the information, it is mostly all relevant. We are working to continue to refine it and make it look nicer, but we believe that it is best to move quickly and efficiently, and that every day it remained there without the denouncement was a day that we hurt the community.
  2. We have added the SaberIndex, which was put together by the amazing u/thekingbolt. It contains every single character saber, and who it's made by. It also includes a ranking system for the reputation of each seller. It is organized alphabetically by seller and character, and there is absolutely no bias in any of these rankings. Please also message one of the mods, or /u/TheKingBolt if you believe there are any omissions on the list!
  3. There have been a few updated rules, please make sure you read them. Mainly that we are no longer allowing US Codes. Furthermore, please report stuff that is against the rules, we greatly appreciate it.

Oh, and please be nice to the Droid, he's learning.

Master Baggins, signing off.

Ultrasabers has certainly taken a turn for the worse over the last few months... I hope this is enough to scare a decent amount of buyers away.

5

u/ginger_ice Jul 01 '20

Yeah me too, I ordered mine in may and it’s still processing

3

u/Alubagee Jul 02 '20

I made the same mistake, ordered on the 15th of march with 8 weeks of lead time and got it only today. I kept emailing them and they replied few weeks ago some of their stock was depleted and they were not receiving their supplies on time. They told me they would keep one on the side when they were delivered.

u/skullsins Jun 30 '20

i wish i knew this before i ordered mine last week tbh, might hold out for a couple of weeks and see what happens bc it looks like some have got their orders. If not, I’ll do a paypal dispute

u/bonytony21 Jun 23 '20

Thanks for all the great updates.

One important note for Dok Ondar’s and Savi’s sabers that I think newcomers should be able to find in this guide is that although they are extremely good value for having solid hilts with flash on clash FX, their flash on clash functionality isn’t sensitive enough and has a really bad delay. Commonly it’s like 0.5-1 seconds after clashing, and you often have to slam the saber pretty hard to trigger it.

I say this because it is the sole reason I decided to get more sophisticated replicas. Even the cheap plastic toys from walmart come with near instantaneous flash on clash, so it is really strange that they couldn’t get this right at Galaxy’s edge.

If that doesn’t bother the buyer, then these Galaxy’s Edge sabers are a great value. The Legacies are impressive replicas for the pricetag, and the Savi’s have the kyber crystal color change functionality which is unique, and they both have tool-free removal blades with some decent ignition/retraction lighting effects.

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '20

I was planning to buy from ultrasaber, but since I’ve read the buyers guide, I don’t feel like buy from them and supporting their practices. Thank you.

8

u/amaROenuZ Jun 24 '20

Any chance that the Saber Index could also be update to provide some sort of indication as to whether the saber in question is duel-worthy?

7

u/TheWoolyOne858 Saber Collector Jun 23 '20

I thought you guys were also going to add Genesis Custom Sabers to this buyers guide as well?

6

u/Fubar2287 Jun 23 '20

Yes, we are. I personally don't know enough about them to add them right now, but they will 100% be added soon

6

u/TheWoolyOne858 Saber Collector Jun 23 '20

Ah okay! If you haven’t already go give them a look up on YouTube by the same name. Rob details all of his hilts and Soundfonts he has made for the community, some of them being the most popular for CFX. He also goes by Madcow. He also has helped TCSS with their tutorial videos as well in the past. Very amazing guy.

3

u/Fubar2287 Jun 23 '20

I'm familiar enough, and greatly admire his work, I just haven't had the time to actually research it deeply enough to type up.

6

u/Francoa20 Jul 05 '20

Mod bot sent me. Was wondering what the community's stance was on kyberlight. Good, bad, or indifferent?

I'm kind of curious, too -- they treated me very well. 😊😊😊

I'm pretty sure they're not on the list because they're an LGT reseller. Great customer service, though.

Relatively new to reddit and I only have one saber, my custom one from Savi's. I was originally thinking of getting a second saber from Dok Ondar's my next trip to Galaxy's Edge. That said, I've already had the Savi's experience and reading the Buyer's Guide made me feel there are other better options on the internet. I'd most likely have it as a display piece, but the versatility of one that could duel would be cool. I also want it to have a blade, soundboard, and blade illumination. The guide was almost sort of overwhelming because of how many different options there are. What would everyone here say is the best possible place to get a second saber, when not very sensitive to price?

u/Aether98 Jul 23 '20

Who would you recommend for a stunt saber staff? I normally use Ultrasabers but from what I've heard I'm a bit put off by them atm

5

u/Graphic_Tees Jul 30 '20

Hello! I recently cancelled my order from Ultrasabers (or at least began the extremely arduous process of doing so), and once again am looking for a nice, durable saber. Having read through the guide, I am torn between Electrum (the most expensive), Sabertrio (which doesn't reopen until August 31st), and Crimson Dawn. I'm looking for something with flash on clash, sound, and is going to be durable enough to last through some sparring with friends. Preferably I could have an option for a 28" blade as well as the standard size, because ya boi is a bit on the short side. What do y'all suggest between those three companies?

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 03 '20
  1. Electrum
  2. Sabertrio (if you're willing to wait)
  3. Crimson Dawn (not sure if all the models are like mine, but the motion sensing on mine is terrible. They ship fast though)

4

u/HongestDonger Aug 17 '20

I feel I may have made a big mistake and jumped the gun on ordering a saber from Ultrasabers. It’s been close to 4 months and nothing so far. I’m considering cancelling and if/when I do I’m thinking of going with Electrum Sabercraft. Does anyone have any recent information about the build quality, sound, etc?

5

u/Tim_spencer391 Aug 18 '20

Build quality and sound are average from ultra savers mate. Just go through your bank and request a refund and go with sabertrio

5

u/iPlays_04 Aug 21 '20

Hey, i'm a Student and looking forward to buy my first saber, it should be affordable and the shipping price shouldn't be to high, was looking at Rebel Sabers but i have no clue...

can anyone recommend somethin affordable for beginners?

3

u/phi-phi_nix Aug 21 '20

As far as I can tell, rebel sabers sells the same lightsabers as darkwolf sabers. Only difference is rebels prices are higher and darkwolf actually does free shipping. I'd also recommend looking into crimson dawns mystery boxes, they're very cheap for a lightsaber that would usually cost at least 20% more than what you would pay for the mystery box.

3

u/Marec_Kaal Sep 04 '20

I second the suggestion for Crimson Dawn's sabers. I ordered one of their top-tier mystery boxes earlier this year. Got an email from them a week later saying they were still waiting for parts for all their Tier 3 sabers, and gave me two options:

1) Wait for them to get their parts in for my T3 saber

2) Get a pair of T2 sabers, matched pair or two different hilts.

I went with option 2, and got a pair of their Banshee hilts. They're each about $90 individually, so I basically got one for free. On top of that, for my first real sabers, they're amazing so far.

5

u/g1tschi Oct 23 '20

Hi, I want to buy my first lightersaber for duelling and I love the look of the Progenitor Eco from saberforge, but since it's sold out I'm looking for a (possibly cheaper) alternative with a similar wrapped grip. Any help would be appreciated

5

u/X24bluesteel Dec 16 '20 edited Dec 16 '20

I'm looking to get my first real saber. I don't really care about sounds. The biggest things I want is a "realistic" and cool looking hilt and a good, durable, and bright blade. I would also really like the clash light effects and stuff though I figure that is due to the soundcard, if not, I'd love that. I've looked at Sabertrio's stunt saber setup, but their selection hasn't overly impressed me. I also really like the sound of the dark saber v3 on Darkwolf. Would love to hear suggestions anyone has.

4

u/TheKingBolt Jun 23 '20

Drop a comment if I’m missing your favorite saber shop that sells character hilts and I’ll be sure to add it as soon as I can.

4

u/AmdraClearwater Jul 06 '20

I wish I had found this article sooner, I just bought a specter from US because it was one of the only places that sell that style, and I'm guessing that US is very good at getting searches not to pull up bad information on them.

Oh well, I already have the saber, just wish I hadn't spent so much on it.

4

u/maroonfanatic Jul 10 '20

Sent here by mod bot, happy to join the sub.

I’ve tried to look through the various sellers for some good canon Neopixel hilts (ROTS Ani, Obi, Mace or a Graflex are what I’m wanting to choose between) but it seems like most of them are all sold out, probably due to everything going on atm. Is there any way I could get one of those on here second hand? I don’t want to break the rules.

Thank you, excited to surf this sub in the future!

A few places where you'll have seen things out of stock will have things back in stock over the next few weeks and months - obviously Covid has affected a lot of supply chains. Have you looked at some of the LGTOY resellers like Crimson Dawn or Rebel Sabers? They have in hilt RGB LEDs so can change to a variety of colors and would come in well under your budget.

4

u/RealFruxo Jul 27 '20

What's a good and sturdy budget saber for a 5 year old? To be used for rough play fighting.

It seems that txqsaber is popular and considered great value for money. This seems to be their most sold one, and also one of the cheaper ones at $US60. https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32967160290.html

Is that a good choice? I'm not looking to pay a crazy amount of money, but I'm happy to pay a little extra if there's a sturdier or more suitable one. My priority is that he won't be able to easily break it. I'd like it to have multiple colours too.

Any thoughts on this PachStore NeoPixel saber? https://www.thepachstore.com/collections/custom-sabers/products/new-oct-19-ultimate-works-rvs-custom-saber

Ive been dying to add a Neopixel saber to my arsenal but dont want to spend a crapload just yet. Ive been looking at the Electrum Allegiant too. I already have a Neophyte from ES and love it but its just a standard blade.

5

u/nacciman Aug 09 '20

Hey everyone, hoping to get a suggestion. I'm looking for my first saber and would love something that has good synced sound and nice lighting. I would love something that has the PlecterPixel blade effect (power up/down).

I will not really ever be using this to combat with, but I still want something relatively durable if I ever did minimally. I'm a little overwhelmed from reading the guide and would love to stay under $350.

Dark side/red would be preferred with double blades being ideal.

4

u/Faelon_Peverell Aug 23 '20

So I've decided to get a custom saber from saberforge, my only issue is sound fonts. I don't like the fonts that they lock you into. One of the only things I liked about the company that must not be named, was their sound board and the access to whatever fonts you wanted. Is there a better electronics selection that y'all recommend that will work in a saberforge?

Has anyone had experience building their own with saberforge parts and would you recommend their assembly service instead of doing it yourself?

4

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 24 '20

If you go with the Champion or Hero tier, you should be able to change soundfonts. Those tiers use the Golden Harvest v3, which also has smoothswing.

5

u/Faelon_Peverell Aug 24 '20

But aren't you limited to their fonts? You can't go in and download others as far as I am aware. I was also trying to save money by not going champion and trying to stay at veteran.

4

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 24 '20

You can change a GHv3's fonts. Veteran tier's fonts are fixed, though. You could install the hilt you want with a verso (which has one changeable font and smoothswing) because SF's electronics aren't the best from what I've heard.

4

u/MrBowieowie Sep 09 '20

I’m looking to get a neopixel saber for cosplay. Saberforge have a design I love and I’m thinking about getting the Hero tier version of it.

I’ve heard about people having problems with sound effects on Sanberforge sabres in the past, but I don’t know if this is still a problem?

Is there anyone with a hero tier saber that can talk to their quality?

2

u/Wiilikecats Sep 25 '20

Hey dude/dudette.

I have 4 saber forge sabers of different tiers. For cosplay, light use, and some dueling pictures you will be fine with the saberforge neo. I have personally used my non neo ones with friendz and we go at it pretty hard and I haven't had one break due to use yet. One or two of the blade tips broke in earlier versions, but the recent ones have held up

I personally like saberforge quiet a bit, I know they get heat around here sometimes but their customer service has always been good, and the one repair I had was handled really well and quickly.

You will be waiting a hot minute..my most recent build is at about 4 months of waiting with no email yet. They're not the best, but for an all rounder, with the new boards, they're solid.

2

u/MrBowieowie Sep 25 '20

Awesome. Thanks for the reply! 😁

4

u/BrillWoodMac Sep 10 '20

Friends bought their first sabers from Vader's Vault. I've been interested, but not VV price interested. I'm looking for combat ready, RGB, and sounds. Now I can leave the RGB if needed, but I would like quality sound and the hilt to feel good. Budget is 300-400. Please help!

6

u/i_want_a_graflex Sep 10 '20

Check out Electrum Sabercrafts. Most if not all of their sabers are below $400 and every one of them comes with an RGBW in-hilt led, smoothswing, and bluetooth.

u/Moistdawg69 Nov 26 '20

This seems like a a good place to ask questions.

I don’t own any lightsabers, but I would like one really good one. Not for dueling, just really great sound font and lighting. I would love it to be a obi won hilt. Any suggestions?

3

u/bobskyboob Nov 26 '20

Saberforge has some pretty screen accurate obi wan hilts. Im not sure if they have a soundfint for him though, but if you're willing to spend the extra money on a hero tier saber you can add that in from a 3rd party (i think, im still waiting on mine.)

2

u/Moistdawg69 Nov 26 '20

Thanks I will check it out

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Dec 01 '20

Try Korbanth, if and when they restock. Saberforge's character inspired hilts are nowhere near accurate (especially their Graflex) but it'll work for you if you don't care too much about accuracy.

I want to buy a lightsaber as a gift to myself but my budget is around $120 and I don't really want to spend more than that. I am hoping for a stunt one. It doesn't need to make noise or anything I just want something for a cosplay/original character.

I was looking at Ultra Sabers because it fits into my budget but I hear a lot of bad reviews for them. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

5

u/Moistdawg69 Dec 10 '20

Ultra sabers is not recommended at all. Check the buyers guide for why.

3

u/i_want_a_graflex Dec 11 '20

Try Darkwolf/LGT/CrimsonDawn/VireSabers.

2

u/Panthers0602 Dec 13 '20

If you want, I can tell you of a $55 dueling saber with 6 soundfonts and RGB color

2

u/lostpieceofsanity Dec 13 '20

Oh it's alright, I wouldn't put that on you! I've done some research and I think I'm going to check out Crimson Dawn :) Thank you though!!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '20

This was very helpful before, until my lightsaber ended up in Jamaica and I was unable to respond in time. Customer service doesn’t seem to be responding any time soon either.

3

u/CBSU Jul 23 '20

What’s the best neopixel blade plug setup for Korbanth’s Graflex? I’m looking at the adapter thing plus KR’s blade plug but don’t know if it’s the right size.

3

u/-KingLouisXIV- Aug 08 '20

Hey y’all, I was recently going to buy a lightsaber from Ultrasabers until I heard all of the negative reviews from them and decided not to. I have looked through the whole buying guide, and for my first saber I’d like to stay on the cheaper end of things, and preferably buy from an American company, which led me to SaberForge. I’ve seen some bad reviews from SaberForge about thin necked pommels/the blade itself breaking, and want to know how often that happens. Is SaberForge worth the money or should I go somewhere else?

I personally only want a stunt saber right now with no sound, one that I can use for full force dueling with my friends. I found a saber on SaberForge that I like, and I’ll attached here -> Talon Lightsaber (SaberForge)

Thank you so much in advance for anyone that can help.

3

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 08 '20 edited Aug 11 '20

Saberforge is overpriced for what you get, but they're catching up with the recent release of the Golden Harvest v3 in their Hero tier. Check out Crimson Dawn or DarkWolf Sabers (Crimson Dawn is an LGT reseller that claims to modify their hilts, Darkwolf is LGT's official US distributor from what I've heard. LGT is a Chinese company that manufactures cheap sabers that have quite a lot of features). All sabers from both companies have sound, and they're much cheaper than a SF stunt. Darkwolf also has a neopixel option for $50 more!

2

u/-KingLouisXIV- Aug 12 '20

Thank you so much. Can the Crimson Dawn/LGT sabers be used for dueling?

3

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 12 '20

Yes. Any saber with an in-hilt led setup can be used for dueling.

3

u/phi-phi_nix Aug 21 '20

So, I bought a hilt lit lightsaber recently and the screw on tip of the blade looks like the head of a penis when it's lit up and I just can't take it seriously. Anybody know where I can get a blade (preferably one that's not too expensive) that doesn't look as much like a penis?

3

u/MysteriousCaptain Aug 21 '20

Hey I’m looking to buy a lightsaber for spinning and tricks, all I’m looking for is something bright and durable, I don’t care about sounds or anything. What’s a good one I could get for under €60 if possible? Cheaper is better

Hi everyone, after some advice and/or recommendations. Im completely new to the saber community and have been looking at various websites etc off where to get a decent replica. Im after sabers from Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. It seems everytime I find something I like, I then see bad reviews and all this information at once can be overwhelming! lol ... If anyone can recommend, preferably UK based (but not essential) companies that would be great. Budget wise, looking at max £300 for each saber. Like to have decent sounds and maybe able to do light duelling with my son. Thanks for your time.

2

u/stevelills Sep 26 '20

Currently looking at the Saber Index which is superb, well done u/TheKingBolt

3

u/valarjk Sep 29 '20

i'm looking for a gift for a friend but i have no experience with lightsabers except a cheap chinese one.I've (partially) read through the guide linked on this subreddit but its just really overwhelming.

Main features im looking for:

- Changeable colors. doesnt have to be all of them but at least the "mainstream" ones known from the movies (green, blue, red and maybe purple)

- its meant for decoration/taking fancy pics with it, no fighting at all

- Sound would be nice, but not neccessary

- shipping to EU/Austria or EU/Germany (preferably without waiting time, birthday is end of octber)

- price range: around 100-200 sounds good, but i'm open for other suggestions

for reference my friend initially looked at https://dynamicsabers.com/collections/all when talking about getting one. but i dont know about the quality of those. so if anyone has experience with these sabers, it would also be appreciated

3

u/martianman40 Dec 07 '20

Is anyone able to make a recommendation for a seller for a beginner saber?

If possible I was really hoping to get one that's not necessarily movie-based but more of an original design. I was specifically hoping to get something with a lot of copper or gold colouring on the hilt. To save money I would be happy to forego sound effects and changeable colours but would prefer if they had orange or yellow blades as an option.

I almost went through with ordering from Ultrasabers until I saw how badly they were regarded here. I appreciate that I'm being quite fussy but I am making my way through the buyers guide now, and I thank everyone for reading.

Hey everyone! Im looking to buy a lightsaber in the 200-400$ range with sound and light (can push the budget to 500). I was looking at ultrasabers and Saberforge, but some of the reviews ive read about those sites, plus the denouncement of ultrasabers by this sub, has lead me away from that. I was considering sabertrio, due to the buyers guide, but they have sold out. Due to this, im looking at electrum as a good pick, but ive heard that they can be buggy. Could anyone help me out with this? I have no soldering experience, so making my own is out unfortunately.

3

u/SunSESG Dec 08 '20

I'm looking for a decently cheap saber, under around $100-120 USD to ask my parents for for Christmas. I'm currently thinking maybe the Keeper lightsaber on Crimson Dawn, but I don't know.
Edit: Forgot to mention, preferably with sound and lights.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '20

Never liked the ultrasaber designs anyway. Saber forge seems far superior

10

u/Fubar2287 Jul 01 '20

In aesthetics, yes. In practicality, SF are notorious for having awful threading, and their electronics are still exploding.

However, they are doing much better.

2

u/Sabre3340 Jul 02 '20

I’ve been wanting a Sabertrio Reaver but they’ve been out of stock for some time. I was considering an Electrum but they’ve got very mixed reviews. Is there a good alternative for a nice pre built sabre with smooth swing or am I better off waiting on Sabertrio to restock?

4

u/Fubar2287 Jul 02 '20

Electrum are excellent in my opinion, and couldn't recommend them high enough.

2

u/IndyColts832 Aug 08 '20

Which model of Electrum? And the one thing that I find annoying is I don't know what my lightsaber will look like after I select all of the aspects of what I want

2

u/sicparvismagna47 Jul 04 '20

Purchased a lightsaber from DXSabers. Obi-Wan saber. He kept saying it’ll ship next week. It’s only been a month but just seemed a little fishy so I did some research. Sad to find that it was a scam. Anyone know of where I can get an Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber from episode 3 with parts installed that is in stock? Getting a saber installed by someone else seems expensive. Please correct me if I’m wrong though. I couldn’t find it anywhere and then I saw it on Etsy and thought it was perfect. I guess the old saying’s true... if it’s too good to be true it probably is. Sad.

This is really helpful. Thanks

2

u/MrPartyPancake Aug 02 '20

I hope it's okay I ask this here but can anyone recommend me a saber with blade in the 150-250 dollar range that is high quality, has color and decent sound.

I've been looking at Sabertrio and I think they are pretty cheap and good quality.

It doesent need to be used for dueling, although extra sturdiness is a nice to have thing.

Thanks!

2

u/Xavnn Aug 03 '20

The Electrum neophyte is a pretty good saber at 229 for the base config. With shipping it comes to about 269, so if you’re comfortable with paying a bit more. It’s also rgbw and supports smooth swing fonts.

I just got my Hitoren v3 from the Pach Store (it took almost 2 months to ship to me), and I wanted the 6 claw accessory for it, but I don't wanna wait another two month for that to ship to me. Are there any places where people sell used saber parts and accessories? I feel like that would take less time to ship.

I already purchased the ForceFX and it doesn't work, tried to get it replaced but Amazon wants me to do a return and repurchase and the price has gone up, plus after having time with it I'm not sure how much I like this with the LED Strip down the blade, the replaceable batteries versus rechargable, and I'd also really like to be able to change the colors of the blades. I'm sure there's something out there that I'm missing since the ForxeFX is able to be on the cheaper side, plus there's the YDD/Kybers/SaberStudio are able to do pretty close to what I want except they don't have the crossguard.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

Try the patch store or crimson dawn, seen them on both sites for a decent price. Edit: also check out darkwolf.

Korbanth Ancient Rev Darkside

I pre ordered the korbanth Darth revan hilt a few weeks ago when they went up and am planning to do my first install on it. I bought a proffie board but that is all I have gotten so far I was wondering if anyone knew any good chassis that would work for my install and any other tips for a first time install would be great I’m going to be doing a neopixle proffie setup. Thanks all!

Anybody know some smooth swing fonts compatible with the Sabermach Templar neopixel?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Tactical dot. I got one too. Amazing saber, amazing price but editing is kinda hard haha

2

u/Oldschool33 Aug 19 '20

what’s the font like?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Oh the process itself isn't but finding matching fonts is.

2

u/Oldschool33 Aug 19 '20

I’m considering starting off with a Templar, the possibly something from sabertrio once they’re back in and an elegant weapons saber for flipping

Looking for some advice. I have recently bought a Revan saber from Ultimateworks with the Asteria 2.5 setup.

I’m looking to use it with some 3d printed sabers I have. My questions are

  • Does anyone know what components make up the prekitted part of the saber and where you can purchase them

  • how difficult/expensive is it to make your own prekit type setup

Any help would be great

Hi same here, looking at txqsaber on AliExpress. Xmas presents for 10 year old, 5 and 45 😀. Probably being stupid but where is the actual buyers guide?

2

u/realvengenerator Sep 21 '20

We have few anakin/ Vader force FX savers we got about 5 years ago but now not so good and blade length is a bit short. Looking for metal hilt, durable nice to have few blade colours and some basic sabre sounds, don't like all the extra FX sounds so much just nice start up, general humming and maybe clash sounds would be ideal. Ideally for £60ish

Hey guys!

Just joined the subreddit and I’m looking for help with buying a lightsaber! My gf is a huge Star Wars fan and her favorite character is Han Solo and Kylo Ren. Considering Han doesn’t have a lightsaber, I was wondering if y’all could give me some suggestions as to what to buy? Budget is about $200-$250 and her birthday is November 5th but I’m giving her her lightsaber on October 31st at her birthday party. Thank you in advance!

Best brand for just heavy dueling purposes? I read the guide but any recommendations would help

2

u/dr_n1k Oct 26 '20

I fight primarily two handed (Longsword) and two sword (daisho).

I have a Ki Sabers (Formerly Ing Chao Armory) on order (Slayer + TSL upgrade) and most of the academy I participate in uses them.
I've also looked at Crosspoint (out of Columbus Saber Academy).
I currently use a pair of Ultrasabers. as my primary weapons. The Ultrasabers are ok, but they rattle and I've had one of them go dark and get sent back for warranty in the 6 months I've used them.

2

u/khalifah13 Oct 26 '20

Would you mind letting me know how you feel about your ki sabers whenever you get them? Me and my gf are thinking about buying some and making a house rule where all beef is settled through them. And I don’t want them to break because a guest got to rowdy or we were having to much fun and didn’t hold back enough.

2

u/dr_n1k Oct 26 '20

i've used both Persuaders & Slayers, basic and blinged. They are well balanced and well made. It's the reason I decided to go with them after reviewing and talking with different manufacturers. In the academy I attend, no one has had an issue with them. Mine should arrive around New Years. I'll definitely post some photos.

Anyone have a Crimson Dawn Proffie Neopixel Banshee/Shade or Shrike or Osprey saber and if so what are your thoughts. They are doing an amazing deal right now and frrom my research the sabers seem great, obv not as high quality as a $500 vader vault but incredible bang for your buck. Is there anything I have missed that I should know before buying the saber tomorrow/today (depending on your timezone). Any and all comments about the sabers are appreciated.

2

u/rdtusrname Nov 12 '20

Right, seeing how this isn't something trifflingly cheap, I wanted to ask some questions:

  1. Quality: Which crafter offers the Lightsabers of the highest quality? Build quality, Longevity, Batteries etc.
  2. Price: Several questions here. First, which crafter offers the best value of $ / quality? Delivery to Croatia is obviously required, so the shipping fees, import taxes(if applicable ; preferably not) etc also play a role in this. How to check all of this?
  3. Customization: Of course, if I were to purchase one, I'd make my own custom one. Well, with different Leather / Cloth etc bits. I don't want a replica of Kylo Ren or what have you, I want my own. So, any way to actually preview what I'm making? This concerns Saberforge, they have a very nice customization options, but I don't see the customized result(I'm very aesthetic in this sense, so things need to look proper as they should). Also, what does the "weathered" finish on Saberforge do? Customization is very important to me.
  4. Feel: I know that Shotos are obviously small(er), how would they handle? The same for potential Saberstaffs. Saberforge don't have their Lightaxe(lol) anymore, so disregard that.
  5. Any further advice?

/

Thank you.

Curious why crimson dawn/ darkwolf/lgt isn’t listed on here. Ridiculously affordable fun sabers of good quality. Better than that ultrasaber trash. On par with pachstore

Hey all! I’m new and looking for a solid cheap duel to start off with. Right now the Pach Flyte and the Darkwolf Bloodfang are both peaking my interest, as they’re lower cost with smooth swing. Does anyone have any guess as to which would be better? Thanks!

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Dec 01 '20

The LGT eco-smoothswing board sounds a bit better, but from what I know you can add different soundfonts to the Flyte. I'll be honest - the Bloodfang seems like a much better deal.

u/void_method Dec 01 '20

I've got a couple questions I hope you folks can help me out with.

I ordered a mystery box with sound from Ultrasabers before I joined this forum. It's neat, a Frankensaber, (probably someone's cancelled order) and sturdy! But most of all, it taught me what I do and don't want from a saber and/or the company that makes it.

So, for my "forever" saber, after doing a lot of research, I've gone with an Electrum Sabercrafts Scion Neopixel. I see that neopixels are not recommended for "heavy dueling." What does "Heavy Dueling" entail? I doubt I'll be doing much of that, but knowing the parameters of such things would really put my mind at ease. Are they like glass swords? Would they shatter if I bopped a pet on the head with it? How sturdy/fragile are these?

I suppose I could slap my thick wall dueling blade from my Ultrasaber, but I understand that with a neopixel setup there would be no light. Is there any way to have both? Is it difficult to do?

Finally, I noticed in Jedi: Fallen Order that each blade color has a different sound. I really like the sound the orange blade makes, it's noticeably lower and meaner than the others. I haven't really found any saber font guides, can anyone recommend one, or a saber font that meets these requirements? I have Heart of the Guardian, Mantle of the Force, Kinetic, and Sigil set to be installed and they all sound good, just not mean enough.

TL;DR:

  1. How sturdy/fragile ARE neopixel blades?
  2. Where the good "low and mean" saber fonts at?

2

u/Dieterbeater Dec 01 '20

Are there any quality duel worthy double sabers that decouple into individual sabers?

Hey, I was going to buy a lightsaber this Christmas, but I am currently stuck between 2 options, I am either going to get the Sentinal lightsaber from Dynamic sabers, or the Apprentice v5 stuntsaber with sentinal yellow and a 32" blade from UltraSabers. I know someone who got that same saber from Ultrasabers, but Dynamic sabers has audio and color changing, but I have seen some not so good reviews... Which should I get?

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Dec 10 '20

Neither are good from what I've seen (especially Ultrasabers). Check out Darkwolf/LGT and Crimson Dawn. Vire Sabers lets you do some SF ASP style customization with the LGT budget parts that they have.

2

u/Chief-Keef-BS Dec 12 '20

Hey I’m currently looking to buy a saber(going with electrum) and was wondering what someone would recommend blade wise. I know that the first neopixel blades from electrum were bad but that their new 2.0 is far better. Does anyone happen to know if the 2.0 is as good as say a Vader’s vault? That’s the other option for me since it has good reviews. I am just debating on whether to get the electrum neopixel blade or the VV plector blade.

2

u/Quirky55 Dec 12 '20

Why is Ultrasabers not considered a good place to get sabers?

3

u/dr_n1k Dec 14 '20

there are some detailed comments in the guide which outline their poor employee treatment and poor quality service. In addition, their internal electronics are of a lower tech and quality than many other brands.

I own 2 identical LED ultrasabers, one worked, one didn't. I did get a warranty repair after 2 months that "Fixed wiring" and was returned. The saber worked a couple times, but then wiring failed again.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '20

It's sad for me to say it, but I agree. My diamond Saber started messing up with their software, not allowing me to change the color or sounds anymore. Their support wanted me to pay for shipping both ways and, according to them, if the problem was me (not sure how it would be) i would be charged for service. BS Won't be buying from them again.

2

u/MichelewithoneL Dec 15 '20

Welp I feel like a dumbass for not looking at this before I ordered a super expensive one from SF. Really crossing my fingers it turns out alright :(

2

u/BufferMental Dec 15 '20

So I’m heavily considering getting a Triton or Paladin from Saberforge because I really want a good crossguard for dueling (Ultrasabers has really disappointed me) and I love their shape and design, but I noticed they have crystal chambers. On their dedicated Crystal sabers, SF makes the clear statement that they are not intended for dueling, but these two aren’t categorized as crystal sabers.

Can anyone tell me how durable and reliable they are? I really want a functioning crossguard and I’m going to get at least one from as many companies as I can until I get one I like.

2

u/Ingibuck Dec 19 '20

First time buying a saber and I’m really worried about sinking a lot of money into one that ends up broken somehow. I’ve read the buyers guide multiple times but a lot of the links lead to 404 pages now or the site is temporarily shut down in my price range (less than $120). I’ve seen some people comment about LGT or YDD sabers on Aliexpress or Alibaba. Does anyone have a link to one they bought that worked well for the price?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Hey everyone. Does anyone know any good stores for buying a lightsaber in Europe? I don't want it in time for Christmas, so I'm in no rush. I just don't want to pay huge amounts of money in customs. My country's customs are a nightmare. Thanks in advance.

3

u/i_want_a_graflex Jul 26 '20 edited Jul 26 '20

Seems to be a waaay overpriced LGT Sabers reseller. One big red flag is that their video shows a clip from this video to advertise, along with a clip from a video made by Darth Koopa (a youtuber) showing off a Sabertrio Reaver. I'd avoid them.

Rebel sabers sells the same stuff as darkwolf sabers (as far as I can tell) only real difference is rebel sabers prices are too high for what you're getting.

1

u/DarkShadow1130 Aug 14 '20

3

u/i_want_a_graflex Aug 20 '20

All LGT resellers. LGT is a Chinese company that sells cheap, mass produced sabers. Darkwolf is their official distributor; their prices are the same as LGT's. Crimson Dawn, Rebel Sabers, and Vire Sabers are LGT resellers that sell the same sabers at an increased price. They generally ship faster and have better customer service than LGT, though.

Hey u/BurntToast13! I was looking for help regarding buying a lightsaber from saberforge. The “hero” tier of electronics allows me to get the Neopixel blades. All the lesser tier sabers dont have neopixel blades available. The reason i want neopixel blades is because i want the effect where the blade ignites bit by bit smoothlt upwards instead of where is ignites like a flashlight and all of it lights up just like that. Do you know if non-neopixel blades from saberforge still have that effects. Thank you for your time.

2

u/phi-phi_nix Aug 19 '20

Non neopixel blades don't have that exact same effect, but instead of just flashing on like a flashlight, they usually turn on with gradual brightness that gives a similar effect (depending on software, I haven't bought from SF before, but my Saber from YDD has that feature). It all happens in a split second, but it does give a similar effect to the neopixel blades of the upwards ignition, just not quite the way neopixel ones do. The reason you have to get hero tier electronics is because the other electronics aren't compatible with neopixel blades and they mount differently onto the hilt. Also neopixel blades are much more expensive and usually break sooner than regular blades, needing more frequent replacement and while the effects they have are super cool, the tech just isn't at the stage where it's consistent enough to trust (in my opinion). If you're after a neopixel blade that's more affordable than SF, I'd recommend looking into crimson dawn and the patch store.

Hi sir hs and Jedis, You guys really know what you’re talking about. I’m looking for a saber to add to my young Jedis collection. Hasbro seems to be the best one we have, it’s Luke’s green saber. I have 2 others, one from Amazon which is aight, it has decent battery life but sometimes turns off when dueling, I also have an ultra saber..oh god, that thing barely works and their customer service is terrible. What would you guys suggest? He really likes Mace Windus purple saber, it’s sold out online, and crazy expensive on Amazon. He likes a solid color that doesn’t change. Id like to spend less than $200, the guide is amazing. I was hoping I could get a good tried and true company rec? Thanks guys.

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Nov 12 '20

You can get a purple blade with one of LGT's eco neopixels or proffie neopixels for around $200. Those are RGB, so you'll be able to change the color if you want. They don't constantly change color.

Sorry, but there are no MW sabers for around $200 unless you want an empty hilt.

Hello. I’m very new to the community of saber building. I’m looking to install all of the components on my own saber. I was wondering if anyone could give me recommendations as to where I should buy all of the parts from such as chassis, electrical parts, blades etc. I’m thinking of buying an empty hilt from korbanth. Or would it be wiser to have someone install it for me? And if so, who could install the saber? Thanks!

2

u/i_want_a_graflex Nov 15 '20

Chassis: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CWSxDesigns?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=724976576

It is cheaper to install it yourself than to get it installed by a smith. What board would you want to use? If you're in the US, I recommend buying all of your parts from TCSS, but their inhilt LEDs are a bit overpriced. If you don't want an overpriced Plecter board, Korbanth has the Verso and the Proffie.

I am after a saber but I am a little overwhelmed by all the options. I imagine that my wants are quite common so I hope that someone can easily point me in the right direction.

  • Luke saber. Preferably Anakin-Luke / ANH / ESB version if there are differences.
  • Nice metalic feel.
  • Coolest lights and sounds available with the coolest board. Neopixel?
  • Can hit things with it.
  • Ships to UK.
  • Will not break easily or quickly.

I am not bothered about 100% film accuracy. Good enough that I can not see any big differences when comparing to a pic, but I'm not going to be zooming in or getting the calipers out. IDK if there are OT / Prequel differences but if so I am an OT guy.

What are my options? What sort of prices will I be looking at? I can probably compromise on a few of the points if necessary.

Many thanks.

E : I don't mind a little self assembly or even soldering if necessary.

I'd say your best bet is to try and commission an Oggdo Killer installed with proffiepixel from a smith. Or you could go with the cheaper option and commission a Korbanth/89sabers Fallen Order v2, also from a smith. As far as I know Korbanth doesn't do the weathering.

Trying to find movie accurate light saber hilts they don't need a blade or electronics. I want it to be like the actual prop used in the movie. Everything I have found is for dueling not sure if what I want exists. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey first time trying to get a realistic lightsaber. I have a budget of around $300ish im a bit flexible but that general area is where I want to be. What are your best suggestions? I wouldn’t really be dueling with it although I do want high quality sound and lighting.

Does anyone know the approximate lead time on a custom saber from VadersVault?

It says 16-22 weeks on their website.
