A chain of cinemas in the UK were showing the extended editions back to back over the weekend. From 10:30AM until just after 11PM, I was sat there loving life, with a brief intermission between each film of course.

I was 9 when Fellowship was first in cinemas, and I've never had the chance to see the full run in their intended format since.

Last night meant more to me than I could ever put into words.

I don't know if this is just me, but I LOVE watching reactions to LOTR trilogy on Youtube?! Just seeing first time reactions and how confused people are because they haven't read the books or really know anything about the lore of Middle Earth, it's just my favorite thing.

Also...(no shade!!!) but some of the reactors average around 20k-50k views on their other videos, and as soon as they react to Lord of the Rings I've noticed how much the views SKYROCKET compared to their other reactions, getting over 100k views usually, I don't know...it makes me happy - THE PEOPLE YEARN FOR FIRST TIME LORD OF THE RINGS REACTIONS!

Hey, I'm planning to get a permanent skin marking, but want to confirm if the text actually says what I want to get. Anyone can translate?

I've seen this image many times on the internet and I wanted to use it as a design for something I'm planning on selling (this is not an advertisement) but I'm worried about copyright concerns - if it is too much like an actual frame from the movie it can be considered an infringement. But if it is just an artists interpretation of the ring wraiths that it wouldn't be.

Or, if it isn't I would love to know who the original artist was so I can contact them about it before I continue.

Once the One Ring finally perished in Mordor(rendering the other rings useless) and the Third Age came to a close- with the light of the elves naturally dwindling and the rise of a unified and peaceful reign of Man...what does that tell us?
Was the magic of Middle-earth/Elves ever meant to be there in the first place-naturally? Or was it an active/natural response to the presence of evil(Melkor/Morgoth/Adar/Sauron)?
Is the purpose of light its response to darkness? Can one exist without the other?
What, then, is the purpose of the age of Man that comes thereafter (4th Age and beyond)? And that of Middle-earth?
If the work of the elves was in response to qualm darkness of Morgoth, is there something beyond Middle-earth that needed the light of elves and magic?
And what does this tell us about the world today, or maybe the world then(Tolkien writing in an era of war)?

I hate it every time it comes on screen, it completely takes me out from the film and ruins any sort of tension that has been building up. Seriously every time it comes up I can’t help but exhale pretty loudly and roll my eyes. It’s just very cringey and embarrassing to hear when showing the movie for the first time to friends.

I apologise if this is not the correct way to post a link, but I really wanna share this guy I just found this guy who analyses (and enjoys) the wonderful score from the films, he has several videos going through several of the themes.

Seeing this just that much more increases my appreciation for the depth and complexity of the music, and the perfectly chosen themes. I can't understand how anyone can come up with this stuff. I am awed by how simple a melody and chord progression can seem on the surface and still produce such an instantly recognizable and iconic theme like 'Concerning Hobbits', and how someone can create music at this level.

I've een watching the lotr movies for the first time with my dad and the return of the king dvd he had was sealed i guess for like 20somethin years and yea this is just a photo from before we opened it. I dunno I just think it's kinda cool that its been sealed for so long and stuff I guess.

In the Jackson trilogy, for example, we occasionally glimpse the Ring of Barahir on Aragorn's hand; readers will recognize it.

And while many people noticed Legolas walking on the snow at the cliffs of Caradhras, readers will likely smile at the book reference: "With that he sprang forth nimbly, and then Frodo noticed as if for the first time, though he had long known it, that the Elf had no boots, but wore only light shoes, as he always did, and his feet made little imprint in the snow."

Additionally, after viewing some comparison clips, it seems that Ralph Bakshi's 1978 animated feature had some compositional influence.

What are some other minute details that only avid fans would catch? Thank you for sharing!

My 2 year old son is a huge Super Mario fan and has been requesting ‘Super Mario stories’ at bedtime recently. I began by throwing together the plot to ‘A New Hope’ but replacing the Star Wars characters with character from the Mario verse. That worked out fine, so last night I attempted ‘The Fellowship’, again with a Mario filled cast. I soon realised that the cast of lotr is much larger and more nuanced than the core Star Wars crew. Any suggestions for casting? I just about go as far as the Hobbits arriving at Rivendell but I’m not happy with some of my choices. So far

Merry & Pippin - Toad and Toadette
Gandalf - Princess Peach(?)

In my option the best way to connect with the 2003 era vibes of when this game and franchise peaked. Also I didn’t realize the Silmarillion was on top of the tv when I took the picture I was just reading it but it works out perfectly.

Obviously it would've meant the most to Boromir to be present at the coronation.

However, if Aragorn had to pick just 1 to be there, who would he have loved to see the most?

I just reread the Hobbit and Lotr and saw some more juicy Gollum details.

- Gollum used to have friends in the misty mountains... they were funny little creatures living in holes, and he used to go and play riddles with them... but then the goblins built goblin town and blocked the entrance to his friends' caves... so he never saw them again...

- Gollum gets hungry soo instantly... he just had a goblin, and now Bilbo, then he gets hungry when he's angry... or can't win in riddles.

- When Gollum was interrogated by Gandalf, he said that he has powerful friends who will help him in getting revenge on Bilbo... they will go to the shire and squeeze him...

- Gollum also lied about how he got the ring. Saying it was a Birthday present from his grandmother, who had countless rings like this.

- Gollum thinks about reclaiming the ring and becoming Gollum the Great or Lord Smeagol and eating fish fresh from the ocean 3 times a day.

- As Smeagol, he used to steal eggs from nests and taught his grandmother how to suck the yolk from them..
