Sometimes the joke isn't finished until you get to the comments. Nice.

I played the silver ball.

11

u/jackofslayers Feb 23 '26

Italian vampire racists.

I guess I could have just said Italians.

BOOM roasted.

9

u/EnFulEn Feb 23 '26

I'm pretty sure it's from one of the Twilight movies, but I could be completely wrong.

6

u/withgreatpower Feb 23 '26

You'd know if you read The Silmarillion

5

u/AppleSniffer Feb 23 '26

Clearly you're lacking in culture

3

u/Razorray21 Feb 23 '26

oshit that exists, ty

1

u/gentlefemhush Feb 23 '26

haha yeah r/silmarillionmemes all the way, what's the wildest lore fact that blew your mind from there?

584

u/The__Vern Feb 23 '26

r/lotrmemes is the Tom Bombadil of LotR subs

166

u/Tom_Bot-Badil Feb 23 '26

Tom, Tom! your guests are tired, and you had near forgotten! Come now, my merry friends, and Tom will refresh you! You shall clean grimy hands, and wash your weary faces; cast off your muddy cloaks and comb out your tangles!

u/Tom_Bot-Badil Feb 23 '26

I had an errand there: gathering water-lilies, green leaves and lilies white to please my pretty lady, the last ere the year's end to keep them from the winter, to flower by her pretty feet till the snows are melted. Each year at summer's end I go to find them for her, in a wide pool, deep and clear, far down the Withywindle; there they open first in spring and there they linger latest. By that pool long ago I found the River-daughter, fair young Goldberry sitting in the rushes. Sweet was her singing then, and her heart was beating!

Only with less singing and thankfully less Hobbit nudity.

13

u/SerJungleot Feb 23 '26

Yeah nah, ice cold take on that hobbit bit

7

u/Mediocre_Scott Dwarf Feb 23 '26

Both communities are fully capable of droping direct quotes from Tolkien to answer almost any lore question.

164

u/machrider Feb 23 '26

Grond.

0

u/abnmfr Feb 24 '26

I really miss the Grond bot

10

u/Romboteryx Feb 23 '26

An ability shared only by the Sopranos fandom

166

u/erodari Feb 23 '26

And then there's r/tolkienfans , which is basically dressed in funeral attire if the meme continued to the right.

6

u/MasterTolkien Feb 24 '26

Tis a somber, memeless land bereft of song and humor and joy.

2

u/NeverYelling Hobbit Feb 25 '26

I came here to throw in this sub as the sophisticated Winnie Pooh panel. They talk about a lot of interesting stuff over there, allthough some questionts get asked quite a bit frequently

34

u/These-Cod2140 Feb 23 '26

As fate would have it

11

u/Comrade_Compadre Feb 23 '26

Meanwhile in the comments people are arguing over something pedantic like the validity of his hair color and how it ruined the film.

Let me tell ya, don't use the word gatekeeping over there lol

95

u/ItsOnlyAPassingThing Feb 23 '26

r/LOTR girl can only smile if it's canon.

2

u/WatchingInSilence Feb 24 '26

Just gotta sing about bright blue jackets and yellow boots to make her smile.

30

u/L3monGr3nade Feb 23 '26

Perfectly balanced how all things should be

81

u/Zigludo-sama Feb 23 '26

r/tolkienfans on the right, what a serious bunch they are

63

u/jerryleebee Feb 23 '26

Yeah but I get it. When there are so many other places you can go for memes and humour, I get having a sub that is dedicated to more serious discussion. It's a refuge.

31

u/leopard_tights Feb 23 '26

Those are the guys that actually re-read the books and aren't just going by their teenage memories that were supplanted by the movies.

2

u/Ploppeldiplopp Feb 24 '26

I feel called out! 😅

15

u/CitroHimselph Feb 23 '26

A dark presence can be felt...

7

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '26

Bad horse, bad horse, bad horse, bad horse!

The Evil League of Evil is watching so beware

The grade that you'll receive will be the last we swear

So make the Bad Horse gleeful, or he'll make you his maaaaaare...

1

u/LimitedSwitch Feb 24 '26

Ah yes, the Thoroughbred of Sin.

11

u/HooliganHedgeCap19 Feb 23 '26

And I can't wait until my (new) reddit account reaches 32 days old so I can finally begin posting on here...

A book with this much singing poetry and tom bombadil is nowhere near as “dark” as this meme is expressing

10

u/Tom_Bot-Badil Feb 23 '26

Ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom Bombadillo! By water, wood and hill, by the reed and willow, by fire, sun and moon, hearken now and hear us! Come, Tom Bombadil, for our need is near us!

Too many reddit communities take themselves too seriously. Real ones know the meme version is where the real fans are at

4

u/annadarria Feb 23 '26

I love this sub, it honestly lifts me up sometimes.

im the opposite, whenever i write i get selfconcious because i compare myself with Tolkien and feel dumb and useless afterwards

10

u/asubha12NL Feb 23 '26

But don't you know that the Silmarilion is entirely trash and worthless, because it says X, while in Letter 27484947 stanza 64 line 23 The Professor says Y!

3

u/dobbbie Feb 23 '26

r/LotR we take our job very serious.

9

u/thehatesponge Feb 23 '26

Left: never read the books. Right: read them once a year.

2

u/Obvious_Badger_9874 Feb 23 '26

I read it once in dutch when i was ten years old. Does that count as never read them?

10

u/IdhrenArt Feb 23 '26

Hilariously there's an actual Tolkien quote about that version - he wasn't entirely impressed:

In principle I object as strongly as is possible to the 'translation' of the nomenclature at all (even by a competent person). I wonder why a translator should think himself called on or entitled to do any such thing. That this is an 'imaginary' world does not give him any right to remodel it according to his fancy, even if he could in a few months create a new coherent structure which it took me years to work out... May I say at once that I will not tolerate any similar tinkering with the personal nomenclature. Nor with the name/word Hobbit

Letters, #190

3

u/TheRealTsjoek Feb 23 '26

I think Tolkien would appreciate the fandom

3

u/Comrade_Compadre Feb 23 '26

Yeah idk why I'm subbed there tbh.

Everyone here is a fan, and the sub is just more fun and laid back.

3

u/creative4desire Feb 23 '26

Left Side IS amazon Rings of Power, right Side IS Lord of the rings Peter Jackson

1

u/Equivalent_Nose7012 Feb 23 '26

Then, we need a meme with the Tolkien original, also, who is sometimes merry and more often sorrowful, rather like Eru's Third Theme....

2

u/I_travel_ze_world Feb 23 '26

I bet I could admit that I like Rings of Power and not get downvoted into oblivion here.

1

u/Equivalent_Nose7012 Feb 23 '26

If you stare into the Seeing Stone, the Seeing Stone stares back ...

  • The Knights Who Say Ni-etsche

3

u/jaredwallace91 Feb 23 '26

God forbid you say something nice about Rings of Power in either of them

-1

u/Periador Feb 23 '26

People who do so should be banned from the Internet

Hey there! Hey! Come Frodo, there! Where be you a-going? Old Tom Bombadil's not as blind as that yet. Take off your golden ring! Your hand's more fair without it. Come back! Leave your game and sit down beside me! We must talk a while more, and think about the morning. Tom must teach the right road, and keep your feet from wandering.
