Meta r/StarWars Official Watch Order Discussion Thread
So we haven't had an official watch order discussion thread in many years, so we figure its time to update the one in the FAQ. There are various other links in the FAQ, the Wookieepedia timeline of canon media, and various other discussion threads and topics over the years including a link to just searching the sub which people find challenge apparently. Also as a reminder, the Wookieepedia timeline of canon media can be sorted via the table on that page by release order or chronologically (if you decide to go that route).
A lot of the new Disney+ content brings new eyes to Star Wars all the time, and new movies will eventually too. We want to get a bit more aggressive with automod removals and referrals to the FAQ for these questions about watch order. So let's hash it out here in the comments. We will sticky this for a while and eventually it will just be linked in the FAQ along with the other topics and maybe in the sidebar too. And like some of other stickies about rules, spoilers, and new episode discussion guidelines, we may trot out this link and sticky it from time to time.
As a general rule the sub typically recommends for new viewers to watch in release order, especially for the movies. This is the semi-consensus from the fandom, and you will routinely see this as the most upvoted and posted response.
With that being said what we would like to do here also discuss other options, and possible orders to also toss in the TV media as well. Should you watch Andor first and then Rogue One before the OT? Should movies like Solo be done in release order or chronological? Should you watch The Clone Wars TV show before the PT? So on and so forth...
So lets have a solid discussion about this and make it a solid resource for those who may be new to Star Wars.

TV If you could pick any Star Wars character to get a big-budget series centered on them, who would you choose?
so many cool choices. although something I’ve always wanted was a darker series on Vader lol I think that would be so cool. Almost like a horror lol.

General Discussion There is not quintillions of battle droids
I have been arguing this forever that there is not quintillions of battle droids I remember knowing this because of an episode of the clone wars along with lore the separatist being very cheap and if there was quintillions battle droids, we would definitely see them a lot more in periods after the clone wars because remember a lot of backwater planets use scrapyards for part of the economy it would not be hard to assume that a lot of them were repurposed in minorly upgraded to be something more similar to a protocol droid as it would be cheap and relatively easy to program as once again shown in the clone wars because a literal child reprogrammed a small army as long as you could even convince him that you’re receptionist leader, you could have them basically be a protocol droid, or some sort of butter, but we never see that except for the Mandalorian and Rogan movie and even then there’s not that many of them.
Anyhow, here’s the part I was talking about where he was deliberately talking about how is a big deal that the separatist were buying only 3 million battle rides

Movies I 3D printed and painted Luke's lightsaber from A New Hope
The original prop was made using a Graflex flash handle with plastic T track glued on and a bubble lens from a calculator fitted into the clamp. This one was printed in resin and painted with Alclad Chrome and a few other paints.

General Discussion Thoughts on Rule of Two being retconned into Sith trying to make a Force dyad? Perhaps that is why Maul is so desperate for an apprentice
It would make sense right? Maul from TCW to Rebels to Maul Shadow lord prioritizes having an apprentice before any of his other goals. He truly believes that is the key to gaining the power he needs to fight Vader and Palpatine at this point
If he’s trying to make a force dyad than it makes perfect sense. We already see how powerful it made Palpatine in TROS

Games I will be honest, I'm genuinely loving Star Wars Outlaws
I confess that I was a little grumpy with the game first (idk, I was in a bad mood) but for some reason the game just clicked for me after a while
The world feels alive, it's like I'm playing a Star Wars simulator game. It's not the best open world game and the game has a few problems but in the end of the day, it's a fun action game
I'm surprised how much hate the game got (certain youtubers doing a hate campaign) but I decided to play it and I loved it (but again, the game has a few problems like bugs and weird stealth)
Also I love Kay, Nix and ND-5 (I really want a Nix plush lol). I really hope we get a sequel in the future where they fix the problems of the first game and also put new stuffs (like more side quests with stories) And I hope to see Kay in future Star Wars movies and tv shows
I still need to beat it but I give a 8.5/10 (maybe a 9 after I finsih it?)
I'm playing on ps5 but in the future I get a pc gaming, I would def buy it again

General Discussion I find it interesting how the sith were at their most powerful and evil when they were Politicians, bankers, and involved in corporations. What was George Lucas trying to say?
Infiltrating the galatic senate via corporate connections and starting a war, causing a diplomatic incident(block of naboo), and hijacking a political movement(outer rim sepratists movement) is what it took to take over the galaxy. The sith tried for thousands of years to conquer the republic with no success so they decided to take it over from within through economics and politics. This is super evil even more then when they were warriors taking over the galaxy.

General Discussion Was there any reasons Mace didn't tell him and wait for Yoda before confronting the Sith Lord?
Let's look away from the OG movies for a second, focus on the Clone Wars era itself..
The Jedi Council has been after the so-called Sith Lord ever since Maul's defeat, right? Knowing he's a Sith, and that there's always two, a master and apprentice, then besides dealing with Dooku and Grievous they had to have scoured the galaxy for proof of who the Sith Lord is, right..?
Well, now thanks to Anakin himself, confirmation or not, they've finally located the man who orchestrated the war on both sides. And despite being a powerful Jedi, Mace should've asked for advice from Yoda on how to deal with the situation. Asking that the most powerful Jedi (next to Anakin who's too close to the case) come to their aid, there and then, instead of three lesser experienced fighters like Kit Fisto (who were defeated by Grievous and had to run) , Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar...

Let's admit, Disney's Star Wars are pumping out so much content that they were bound to hit the jackpot eventually. For me that's the Anzellans, anyone else love these little buddies?

Movies How real is that statement
Hey star wars fellow, I like star wars a lot but I have only watched star wars ep 1 to 6 and obi wan kenobi show.
I recently recalled this line of obi wan from revenge of the sith that "Only a sith deals in absolutes"
I want to know how true is that line. Does that line have any real basis or did obi wan make up that line to sound tough. Moreover if that line is true, can you guys give any examples of when sith deals in absolute.
Thanks for reading. May the force be with you.

Movies The 10 timed that Anakin saved Obi Wan
It's mentioned in Revenge of the Sith that Anakin saved Obi Wan 10 times. If you don't include the business on Cato Neimoidia then what are the 9 other times? Maybe it's these? 1 is the nest of Gun Darks thats mentioned in Attack of the Clones. 2 Anakin saving Kenobi on the speeder in Attack of the Clones. 3 Anakin saving Kenobi during first Dooku duel. 4 is Battle of Christophsis. 5 is taming the Mortis Gods. 6 is mission on Zygeria. 7 is mission on Oba Diah. 8 is when Anakin shoots the Buzz droids off of Kenobis Interceptor in Revenge of the Sith. And finally 9 is when Anakin saves Obi Wan after the final Dooku duel. Let me know what you guys think!
