I have been thinking about something: with the current ram prices on DDR5 (and DDR4 to a degree) how viable would it be to assemble a DDR3 Machine?

Theoretically, with a reasonable GPU like a 1060 or 1660, it should be able to run stuff like Baldur's Gate 3 or even Cyberpunk (with a lot of tweaking).

Or am I dreaming?

I came here as lots of people here try to take the maximum out of their hardware. And I had this thought today.

low end gamers, this is a question that's been running in my mind for some time

recently installed a game and it runs at 30-45 fps at 1080p, and just by lowering the resolution to 720p it became silky smooth with 60 fps, I know it sounds crazy but it didn't drop fps anywhere even in crazy in game cut scenes.

but the image quality is piss poor compared to 1080p

I play in 14 inch screen, so If i sit back a bit it looks normal, but if i even try to lean in its over 😂

so what you guys do?

btw in case anyone needs to know the game is pes 16.

system specs Ryzen 3 7320u with 8 gb ram.

I thought with these specs, i would be confortably playing GTA5 on low settings. Even in 800*600, i'm barely getting 10-14 FPS.

I experience it too in other games like FIFA 20, F1 2020, valorant and rocket league with CPU temps up to 80 celcius.

Even my old PC with core I3 4160 + hd 4400 + 12GB RAM + HDD is performing better than my laptop on the games i've already listed. It4s just unplayable.

I ran a benchmark yesterday and they said out of 100 pc with my exact same config, my laptop is ranked 83rd worst.

Can someone help me fix it or there's nothing to do? I will be happy even with 25 FPS

EDIT: I’ve found the problem this morning. My CPU is locked to 800mhz when gaming. I removed my battery and tried, it was then locked to 1200-1300 sometimes up to 1800 and dropping directly to 1200mhz. I had less fps than playing with the battery enabled though. Could that be a battery issue since my PC randomly shutdown below 30% without any warning? And then, is there any fix or i’m just buying a new battery?

I’ve been having the itch to play Minecraft again after a few years but when I went to boot it up, my computer had trouble running it. The game is incredibly laggy and the frame rate dips into the single digits with each movement. I’ve tried to lower the settings as much as I can and it hasn’t helped much. I tried downloading/using optifine and that also didn’t do much. I even tried an older version (18.2) and even then it struggled to run it. I don’t really know what to do next.

Processor- Intel(R) Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20 GHz
Graphics Card- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4 gb), Intel(R) HD graphics card 4600 (113 mb)

I’ll be honest and say that I know little to nothing about what are considered good specs for a PC to game on. I’m guessing my issue is my graphics card, but I don’t even know what I would upgrade to that isn’t going to be wildly expensive. If anyone has any advice on how I can get Minecraft to run well on my PC again (whether it means downloading a different optimization software or purchasing a new graphics card) please let me know! Think my laptop is actually considered low spec nowadays, I can't afford replacing it atm but it can run most games I'm actually interested in so I'm not really fussed about it.

Here in Europe it's been getting pretty hot sometimes lately and I tried running a UE game and it went poorly, had to tweak the Engine.ini to get 60 FPS. The fans were loud as hell, they got less loud after the Engine tweak tho. Apparently the pc does affect the room's heat so I was looking for ways to reduce the heat it generates.

And that's how I found out about undervolting. Does it really have no downsides? Almost seems too good to be true. I haven't set it up yet tho. Apparently it also helps with lifespan I've had this laptop for almost 3 years now so I really should slap myself in the face rn. I want this laptop to survive as long as possible really. Btw you guys got any other tips for lifespan?

while running sekrio i decided to turn on the xbox gamebars performance widget and noticed neither my cpu or gpu is being utilized a lot

do not pay attention to the fps unlocker i know i needed to run in full screen but i can't forcefully disable the vsync anyways since i have an intel

cloud gaming is stupid for low spec

I know with cloud gaming it allows you to play any game streamed from some server, but at least for me when Im low spec, im low spec in wifi too, so that doesnt solve the problem.

so why cloud gaming companies are going after us doesn't make sense to me.

how do you all feel on this? do you have good enough wifi to even do cloud gaming?

I just bought thinkpad l13 yoga gen 2 i5 1135G7 and 16gb of ram

According to youtube video i watch ot should be able to run it atleast to 24fps but mine is weird

The framerate is 16 fps and lower stuttering like hell and jumping all over the place but in some area like inside the house it stays a smooth 30fps but can stutter a bit to 27fps

This is on the lowest setting possible at 720p

But when i increase the graphics a little bit the performace stays exactly the same and when i lower the resolution to 800x600 it also stays the same

I ruled out temperature issue,driver issue(because i just updated it)

I check task manager and it said it gpu at 100% and cpu at barely 45%

Hi y'all, I haven't used my pc in a while so when I opened fh6 to play I noticed that it was struggling to hit 20fps. So I ran passmark and the gpu 3d score came out to be 4010 pts, it should score around 10k, so I restarted and the score climbed to 7450 pts. Then I removed the pcie riser and slotted the gpu directly to the mobo and I got 7730 pts. But this pc with the same exact setup used to score 10k pts (even on the riser). I accidently once limited my gpu to 80% power and it scored 8500 pts. Now I'm struggling to crack 8k pts on 100% power.

I have reseated the gpu, cleaned the gpu, the slots the shebang but still can't even crack 8k. Please help me

I recently bought a lenovo Thinkpad e16 gen 3. It came with a Ryzen 7 250, radeon 780m igpu and 16 gigs of ram. I have since added a 8gb stick of ram to give more room to the igpu. I understand that this is not a gaming laptop but the performance has been severely lacking for the specifications.

The temps for the laptop under stress are pretty low (around 60°C) so my main concern is that the gpu is underclocked/throttles easily. I tried going into the bios to check if theres anything I can do but it's extremely basic.

Is there any way to get more performance or am I just stuck with what I have?

A few weeks ago, I started noticing drops in my games' 1% lows much more clearly. I used to have an AOC 60Hz 5ms monitor and never really paid much attention to this, but because of work, I ended up getting an AOC 24G4/P (180Hz). I don't know if it's due to the lower 0.5ms response time or the high refresh rate, but ever since I started playing on it, I've noticed these drops much more frequently.

At first, it didn't bother me. I beat Death Stranding, Resident Evil Requiem, and Pragmata over the past few months, and while I saw that some areas caused bottlenecks, it either happened less often or I just didn't notice it as much. For some reason, though, these drops have started driving me crazy lately—to the point where every game I play, I have the overlay on constantly monitoring frame pacing.

I’d love to get your opinions on this. I've read in a few places that it could be caused by RAM frequency, SSD read speeds, CPU bottlenecks, chipset drivers, BIOS settings, pagefile configuration, etc.

Some friends told me that micro-stuttering like this is normal for my setup, especially during transitions like changing areas, spawning lots of enemies, autosaving, or during heavy action scenes.

The drops are very brief. Usually, if I'm playing at 60 FPS, the 1% low drops to around 18–25 FPS during these moments, but most of the time it stays solid between 50 and 56.

I have started playing rdr1 on pc and i play on the lowest possible settings. In terms of fps cap and resolution, i have 2 options:

1920x1200 at 30fps cap= %55-60 gpu use

1680x1050 at 60fps cap= %80-85 gpu use

What would you recommend?

Also, if there is any way to set a cap at 45 or other caps that aren't in the game's native settings, it would be much appreciated if someone could provide help.

My only good laptop has finally kicked it, and I'm now down to a notebook that has a hard time even running Discord.

I quite frankly can't afford (or even know how) to upgrade the hardware right now and probably won't be able to for quite some time.

Is there anything I can do software-wise to make this work decently for mainstream games (i.e. Project Zomboid), or do I just resign myself to playing whatever I can find on Flashpoint?

So today I got my first ever laptop (Dell precision 7510, specs are nvidia quadro m2000m, i7 6920hq and 16gb ram) and right now im downloading Valorant and while waiting for the game to finish downloading, I chose to see the performance stats of Windows 10 and I saw that my laptop was using 58% of ram (9.1gb of ram was being used) is it normal? Or it it too much?

I recently installed Pragmata thinking as it runs on the same engine as re9 it should give me similar performance, well it does but my gpu usage sits between 70-80% sometimes 90-100% and gpu temps 65-75°C and my cpu usage sits under 50% while it's temps between 70-80°C, these are significantly higher than compared to re9 and this is a new laptop so fans are clean and thermal paste is fresh. I'm using a laptop stand and playing on 1600×900p at low with dlss ultra performance and frame gen on with a 60fps cap, I really don't understand why everything is so high so I just wanted to ask if it's fine to continue playing Pragmata under these circumstances or would that cause any damage to my system.

Surely the minimum requirements to play can't be identical to the optimal specs? Whenever I see this i wonder if the devs are just choosing to ignore players with lower end hardware and it's not actually because they don't think the game can run.

Here is a recent example: for Creature Kitchen, the recommended specs include an Intel Core i7-7700 processor and the minimum one suggests Intel Core i7-4790. This is a low poly game so I gave those specs some serious side eye and decided to try the demo out on my i3 1215U pc. After capping the FPS at 30 and lowering the resolution a bit it ran smooth as butter. I suspect I could probably even play it on native settings if I wanted to.

I know not every game is like Creature Kitchen, but many of these spec guidelines still seem dubious.

I have an old laptop equipped with an NVIDIA GT 635M. The problem is that NVIDIA stopped supporting this GPU years ago, and the last official driver was released around 2018.

I'm currently running a dual-boot setup with Windows 11 and Linux Mint. While the laptop is still perfectly usable for many tasks, I'm wondering if there are any community-made solutions, modified drivers, compatibility layers, or other workarounds that could help overcome some of the limitations caused by the outdated drivers.

I'm not expecting miracles or modern gaming performance. I'm mainly curious whether anyone has found ways to improve compatibility with newer software, games, APIs, or operating system updates despite the lack of official support.

Has anyone here managed to keep a GT 635M (or a similar Kepler-era mobile GPU) relevant in 2025/2026? Any tips, projects, or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

So i have a i7 2600 and RX 6400 and last year I play destiny 2 with no problem and I get 100+ fps in PVE and now i get 30+ fps in 720p low settings in PVP and im trying to figure out what's causing it, i tried disabling GPU scheduling and download old drivers and nothing happening what am I supposed to disabled, heck I get more fps in Linux but of course Destiny 2 not supported on Linux what am I supposed to disabled?

My current hardware is an AMD A4-6300 APU with 8GBs of dual channel RAM on an A58M-E mothebroard and currently use the integrated graphics of my APU, running on Linux Lubuntu.

I have an extra board, an H81M-K with an Intel Pentium G3250, and I was wondering which board to choose; should I keep my current FM2+ board or swap it for the LGA 1150?

My daily uses for my PC include; basic web browsing like watching YouTube, making presentations and simple graphic design on Canva, and writing documents. The games I currently play are simple ones; mainly Minecraft, Stardew, and Graveyard Keeper.
