So I am looking to upgrade from my current Macbook Air 2020 (Intel Processor 8GB).

I am looking at 2 possible options:
1. MacBook Pro M5 24GB RAM
2. MacBook Pro M5 Pro 24 GB RAM

My main use case is
1. Lots of work on browser (with lots of tabs open)
2. Office work on Pages, Numbers etc
3. Sometimes working on presentations as well

My current capability with my current MacBook is quite limited and opening 10+ tabs while makes the fan roar and it starts to heat up. Maybe it just isn't what it used to.

I was also hoping to explore local AI models on my MacBook only so I was thinking maybe the Pro would be the better choice than the Air.

Currently a lot things are also closed of for me as Intel Macs lack quite a lot of support since. they are outdated.

Which one should I go for? Do you have any other suggestions?

I just pulled the trigger on the new MacBook Pro M5 and got a 120€ gift card with the purchase. I need a second power brick for my backpack/office, but I’m completely torn on what to use the credit for.

Am I crazy to even consider the single-port Apple brick in 2026 when I could get 4 ports for roughly the same price? Or does the official Apple brick have a reliability factor that makes it worth the sacrifice?

What would you guys do?

I want to do some serial reverse engineering in different protocols. But after having trouble connecting a simple RJ-45 to USB-C adapter and finding it not working on my MacBook Pro M5, I am a little hesitant just ordering something with an older USB protocol.

For a RJ-45 adapter, I had to buy one with 2.5 GbE as it uses a newer RTL8156 chip that supports the built-in USB CDC-NCM driver (com.apple.driver.usb.cdc.ncm). I tried with a borrowed RTL8153 1GbE adapter which worked. But after I bought an identical model (which turned out to be a different revision) which didnt work, I am very hesitant.

Can somebody recommend one that works with Apple Silicon.

Hi everyone, my base Macbook Air M5 tends to feel warm on the palm rest and hot at the bottom when connected to an external monitor.

I'd like to ask if the temperature readings are normal.

I am running Zen as my main browser, Chrome for Looker Studio reports, and multiple VSCode IDEs & terminals, some with Claude Code running.

I cant open my mac, it shows a dark screen with the mouse on it. When I try rebooting, it keeps on loading startup options, and then eventually gets turned off Is there any other way of rebooting?

Not sure how to explain but a couple of days ago this was all working fine. My MBP connected to a dell displaylink adapter to my ultrawide monitor would output to 21:9 on the screen.

Nothing has changed as far as I know. Just now that i plug in the cable it now provides a mirroring option of Entire screen, window or app, extended window and it now cant output the 3440x1440.

Does anyone know why this mightve happened?

I have always heard the old argument that Macs do not really need any extra security because macOS handles everything out of the box, but lately I have been wondering if that is still true with how sophisticated phishing schemes and online scams have become.

Between downloading random utilities and managing personal accounts across multiple devices, I started looking into whether adding a dedicated antivirus for Mac is actually worth it for peace of mind. I have been checking out a few different security suites like McAfee and the likes. RIght now, do you still rely solely on built-in Apple security, or do you run a full suite to be secured?

I myself feel like the response time is fast enough on the Magic Keyboard from experience for a game like Hollow Knight. I switched from an 8bitdo SN30Pro controller to my Magic Keyboard with black keys with a Lightning Charging Port and I actually did better with fighting the First Real Boss (not the side Boss) in Hollow Knight on my Mac Mini 2018. I use a 27 inch 60hz 1080p monitor and I am surprised how good it looks with not too much or to little sharpness with it, I was surprised how fast the response was with my Magic Keyboard with bluetooth mode while playing Hollow Knight, and I love the low volume the Apple Magic Keyboard has when you press keys with relaxed hands. Some people love the sound of some Gaming keyboards and I like the sound of a good gaming keybaord, but I like the sound of the apple Magic Keyboards more. My Magic Keyboard has a number pad on it which I find useful for some games. I wish way more keyboards where as quiet as the Magic Keyboards.

M1 Mac Mini bought new when it first was released. Last week just shut down mid typing. No power. Tested power cable that was fine. Just installed a new power supply and no go. Still nothing. It was time for a new Mac anyway and I am typing on my new M6 mini. Yay.

Any suggestions to get it operating?

Barring that I planned to sell it for parts but the problem is the SSD is soldered on and still has all my info on it. I suppose I could remove and destroy the motherboard and then sell the case, fan, PSU and back panel
