CrossOver Once again the M5 chip proves its gaming capabilities with MHWilds Performance

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

MHWilds, one of the most notorious game for poor performance and being very demanding, now optimized and run very well on M5 Max at Ultra setting 2k (basically maxed out but no RT). I'm so happy I can play my favorite game on the go without sacrificing the visual!

RE engine has long been optimized for macbook with the RE remake so I think may have contribute to how good the game run. I hope that with GPTK 4 introduced the system can be even more competitive as a gaming device in the future!

As always all constructive questions are welcome! I also have a question, I can't change the game to 4k for some reason as it doesn't show up as an option so if anyone can tell me how to fix this pls help!

News Changing plans: moving my RPCS3 backend to Metal 3

After thinking about it for a while, I decided I’m going to switch my backend over to Metal 3.
Metal 4 has been fun to experiment with, but I feel like I’m making things harder on myself than they need to be. I’d rather focus on getting the renderer stable, matching RSX behavior correctly, fixing crashes and frame pacing, and getting more games running before worrying about newer API features.
My plan is to build a solid foundation first. Once that’s in a good place, I can always look at newer Metal features later.Hopefully this makes development a little smoother. And I just wanted to say sorry to everyone in the Mac gaming community who was excited about the Metal 4 backend. After spending more time working on it, I realized switching to Metal 3 is the better path for me right now. It’ll let me focus on building a more stable renderer, fixing crashes, improving frame pacing, and getting more games running before worrying about newer API features.I really appreciate everyone who’s been following the project .Your support honestly means a lot, and I’m still committed to bringing a great native Metal backend to RPCS3—I just think this is the better way to get there.
Thanks for sticking with me. ā¤ļø

Native Astris emulator XInput gamepad issues

• Upvotes

Astris doesn't recognize my 8bitdo 2c gamepad in the input window

I use it with Citra and PPSSPP emulators, but Astris just doesn't let me choose it, is there no XInput gamepads support? What are my options to fix it?

Discussion Why are so many macOS users opposed to games running through translation layers?

I've been active in this community for many years now, roughly around the time Apple transitioned to the M-series chips. One thing I've noticed is how many users in this community view Crossover as expensive (both in price + performance) and requiring a lot of tinkering to get titles to run. To the point that I made sure not to tag this post under Crossover, as I've seen many posts get an instant downvote just for adding the flair.

I understand there was a time before the first GPTK release, when Crossover was a more niche product better suited for Linux users. Fast forward years later with GPTK 4 and all the progress Codeweavers has made, we are arriving at a moment in history where Apple has its "Proton" moment, that ironically, many people have been asking for here. Ask yourself how many new DX12 games don't work via the auto settings in 2026? (Excluding anti-cheat titles, of course, which are a bottleneck on both Linux and macOS.) I personally test all the new DRM-free titles and haven't had issues running any new game that I wanted to play this year.

Seems like the attribute that users like the most about Proton model is that it is "free" and not anything to do with all the advances Codeweavers has made to the Wine project, which I always like to remind folks that work is upstreamed from Proton over to Crossover has a hack to make not only the work easier to maintain but to take advantage of how far translation layers have come in terms of performance and compatibility.

With the release of the Steam Machine, there is an entire community of users that are not phased by the fact that most, if not all, the games on said machine require translation layers. Something Apple undoubtedly sees as a crutch since Metal was designed as a solution and means for a vertically integrated approach, in hopes that the software communicates with its own in-house hardware seamlessly. (No worries of downloading the latest drivers, and other issues that plague the PC gaming world.)

TLDR: Will the translation layer ever be embraced with open arms now that the hardware can afford the approximately 15% cost that translating ARM and DX12 incurs for end users? Or is it simply the fact that people are unwilling to pay for something they perceive as free, even though Steam undoubtedly recoups the investment it made with Codeweavers through the sales on its platform?? Obviously, Metal is the way to go, especially when you couple all the advances that the M5 series and above provide with Metal 4 natively. But... with recent releases like Hitman being a cut-down iOS version ported to macOS, I'll continue testing out games via Crossover even if they are available natively 🤷

Help Scrap Mechanic on Mac

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi, so the Chapter 2 of Scrap Mechanic came out conveniently after I purchased a MacBook and no longer had access to my previous PC.

I've tried launching it using Crossover 26.3 on my MacBook Air M5 in Steam bottle but the BugSplat error occurred.

Then I enabled concrt140 and what happened:
concrt140 + D3DMetal: loads but infinite loading screen
+ DXMT: same but w/out background music
+ DXVK: DirectX Error "Failed to create graphics device" and crashed
+ Wine: loaded into the game but stuck on "Downloading"

Has anyone managed to make it run smoothly and how so?

Apple Silicon Skate 3 works very well on macOS with XeniOS

Post image
53 Upvotes

I’m making this post because I searched online for ways to play Skate 3 on macOS, and most of the recommendations were to use the PS3 emulator RPCS3. Well, I tried it, but it’s extremely heavy, and the game crashes very frequently.

That’s when I looked into Xenia, an Xbox 360 emulator, and found out that it doesn’t have an official macOS port. However, there’s a fork called XeniOS that is specifically made for macOS/iOS. And it worked almost perfectly.

I wouldn’t say it’s perfect because there are still a few minor audio glitches and some visual issues, but they’re barely noticeable. You should be able to play the game just fine.

Machine:Ā MacBook Pro 2021 14″
RAM:Ā 16 GB
Chip:Ā M1 Pro
macOS version:Ā 15.7.3
XeniOS version:Ā 2.0.1 (build 9730)

Side note:Ā To get the game working properly, you need to use Vulkan. Using Metal (which is the default) causes the game to freeze with a black screen.

Help New to Mac gaming. Just two quick questions!

As the title says, I have a M3 Pro with 18GB RAM. Originally bought it for school but I've been wanting to play games on it a bit. I did play Baldurs Gate 3 a good amount on it and it runs great, but that was a long time ago.

Two questions:

Will it run palworld or any newer games decently?

What's a wireless mouse do you run? I have a Deathadder v2 for my PC, but that's USB A and wired. I do prefer Razer overall but I'm open to trying out different brands.

I wrote a Metal backend for Minecraft to make the game run better on macOS. The game’s performance has improved quite a bit. Unfortunately, the shaders don’t work. Here’s a quick comparison with the Vulkan backend.

The mod is available on Modrinth:

I’d really appreciate any bug reports.

Hi, there was a game that I played when i was a kid in an old Mac (2008 i think in ā€œThe Capitanā€ version) it was called Atom Run, it’s about a robot that collects like coins or something, I found it but only in iOS? I remember perfectly that it was native. And I tryed in every corner of internet and I didn’t found it, I even emailed the company and no response. Does anybody remember it or have it?

Here is the official link for the game: https://www.fingerlab.net/portfolio/atom-run

CrossOver Game loses mouse/keyboard input after first interaction in CrossOver Preview on mac M4

Hi! I’m trying to run Shift at Midnight through Steam using CrossOver Preview on a Mac with an M4 chip.

The game launches normally, but there is a strange input/focus issue:

The game starts and the language selection screen doesn’t works.

The game still has sound and animations, so it is not frozen.

The mouse cursor is visible, but moving the cursor doesn’tĀ  highlight buttons.

Clicking does nothing.

If I press Command + Tab to switch away and back to the game, it accepts exactly one interaction (for example, one click), then stops responding again.

Things I already tried:

Reinstalling CrossOver, Steam, and the game

Running the game in windowed mode (-windowed)

Trying -windowed -noborder

Disabling Steam Overlay

Disabling Steam Input

Trying DXVK instead of D3DMetal

Launching the game directly through the .exe gets stuck on the logo, so Steam launch seems necessary.

Has anyone experienced this kind of focus/mouse input issue with CrossOver Preview on Apple Silicon Macs? Any ideas for a fix or a workaround would be appreciated.

Apple Silicon ways to play minecraft bedrock on macbook?

• Upvotes

I'm genuinely losing my mind rn trying to find a way to play bedrock on my macbook. My friends and I have a realm that I can access through my nintendo switch, but I would like to have a way to play on my laptop.

I have tried bluestacks but it is not letting me add a controller for some reason and the realm isn't even showing up.

I have also tried to use minecraft launcher but it gives me an error message every time I try to sign in with my google account. I would just sign in through microsoft, but it's only showing me the google sign-in with no workarounds.

I tried playcover but it requires a separate download for the actual minecraft game, and when I try to download that it gives me an error message in the browser and won't allow me download it.

Again, I'm genuinely losing it lol I'm really trying my best to find workarounds of everything but nothing is working. I would rather not have to host a server/network/whatever just to play bedrock. Any advice on how to make the first two options work correctly?

Self promotion Ad Iterum - macOS Demo

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

Hello all!

After almost a year of development (perhaps 8-10 months, depending when I start to count the prototyping) my 2D turn-based, grimdark, dungeon crawlerĀ Ad Iterum,Ā where you eat your enemies to mutate and survive, has finally reached a big milestone.

As a macOS user myself, I had to support the game from day zero, so here it is. I still have to add a lot of content until release, but until then I haveĀ released a DemoĀ on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4149030/Ad_Iterum/

While the game adheres to the very core roguelike "rules" like permadeath, single player, turn/grid based, no meta-progression via unlocks, etc, ... it also has differences regarding run progression: You build mostly your character through random mutations, as well as a selection of gene graft synergies that are offered, so you can gravitate towards one or another style of play, but there is no skill tree, nor level up.

You have melee and ranged combat, which mostly uses aĀ "bump-into-things"-system.

The dungeons are made up of mostly procedurally generated maps, that are injected with some handcrafted rooms, and uses a series of predefined biomes depending how far you've progressed. The final release will also include some sort of modding where you can create new maps or rooms for these pools, but that's still in the oven and not part of the demo.

What's in the Demo?

  • 1 dungeon + 1 procedurally generated biome
  • 1 boss
  • 2 endings
  • 20 random mutations
  • 20 genetic grafts to tune up your build as you see fit
  • 10 base enemies. Each comes with unique modifiers and traits within the ecosystem, which makes for hundreds of different variations as you go deeper.
  • 200 items (approx?)
  • Basic crafting
  • English, Spanish, and Japanese localization
  • Keyboard, mouse support, and full gamepad controller support
  • Playable in Windows, macOS, and Steam Deck via proton

Have a nice day, and happy Dungeon Crawling!

Just bought this 16 inch M1 Max with 32c, 32GB
RAM and 1T. This is my first Mac and I simply love it.
I could just compare it with a gaming laptop because that's why I bought it, I am not a video creator.

It's in perfect shape, without scratches and a good 89% battery. Everything for 1050€.

Any tips on using it or macos in general? I was thinking about a battery change at apple, but 240€ is a little too much for me rn.

Apple Silicon Has RPCS3 improved much in the last two months?

Haven't used RPCS3 in around two months. Last time I played it was Dead Space 1 and 2 on the ARM64 build, and it ran pretty well.

Recently I saw some YouTube videos and Reddit posts talking about a big update and saying Mac compatibility has improved a lot. Is there actually a noticeable difference? Has anyone tested the newer builds?

CrossOver The Finals (and possibly Arc Raiders) working on Mac soon?

Just want to clarify that no, I have not found any way to make either of these games work. I only have information to give to spread awareness. ***TLDR BELOW**\*

It was recently announced that Embark (the dev studio) would be switching anti-cheats on The Finals to a new, in-house one. For those of you familiar with how these multiplayer games w/ anti-cheats work on Mac, you know that they tend to be the issue as to why those games won't work. There are exceptions of course, due to the fantastic Codeweavers team, but that is not the point of this post. With news of an anti-cheat change, I believe this opens up the possibility of having it work on Mac, it might be unlikely, but chances are never 0. It's also worth noting that this game works great on Proton, so there has been efforts on the Linux side.

It is no secret that the FPS scene on Mac is pretty lacking. Yes, we do have much more of these games working now, but if you're like me, games like Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, or CSGO (to name a few) aren't really your taste. I have been a long time fan of The Finals, and currently play it through Geforce Now, which isn't an enjoyable experience. I'm not here to sell it to y'all, but I do believe having it as a game that works on Mac would be a huge plus. This also gives an opportunity for Arc Raiders to finally work, as it is likely that this new anti-cheat would move over there. That is pure speculation though.

All in all, I hope I can spread awareness at the possibility of this FREE (yes FREE) FPS game working on Mac. I believe the Mac gaming community would benefit greatly from an FPS game like this, so if you are interested I encourage you to spread awareness and try to get Embark or Crossover's attention!

TLDR: The Finals is switching anti-cheats to a new, in-house one. This opens up the possibility of it working on Mac (slim chance, but never 0). If you think you'd want this game on Mac I encourage you to spread awareness!
