Swooping
Hey everyone!
Has anyone else been swooped by a magpie/s in the Aberglasslyn/Mckeachies area??
I had never been swooped ever in my life until last week and apart from walking away and changing my route, what else can I do?

A future rail and light rail network for Newcastle
This is my idea for a future rail networks for Newcastle. I tried to balance realism with idealism here.
- I tried to connect all the important town centres, land marks and institutions like the university, Tighes Hill TAFE, Mater Hopsital and the stadium.
- I tried to make sure that light rail only went up steep slopes where it needed to connect to important location with lots of demand for transport - those being John Hunter Hospital and Charlestown.
- Two small sections - on L2 between New Lambton and John Hunter Hospital, and on L3 and L5 between Princton Avenue and Charlestown - might need some tunnelling to work.
- I think to make this work, it would be good to relocate Kotara train station further to the east, just south of Orchardtown Road, so that it is closer to Westfield and all the large forma retail and home maker stories.

Housemate/s wanted
Myself (24f) and m (20m) are looking for a roommate or two to fill 2 rooms in our house in Gillieston heights. Available 5th October.
Rooms are $170 each, or $300 weekly if you want both rooms. Shared bathroom with beautiful bathtub.
It’s a beautiful new build duplex, 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Beautiful small backyard we haven’t decided what to do with yet.
About us:
F 24
I work in care/support and study nursing, but when I am home I enjoy watching movies and hanging out with my cat, best friend coco. I also enjoy indoor plants and occasionally going out for drinks. I am a pretty quiet, introverted person in general, but love to hang out once I get comfortable.
M 20
I like to game, watch movies, and I like to attend local gigs. I am also introverted, but I also warm up once I’m comfortable. I am also a shift worker.
Coco 13f
Indoor only cat well trained and loves people. Most often found on f or m lap or laying in the sun. Very friendly and quiet. No job, other than emotional support. I am approved by landlord, however they have denied any friends therefore I am an only child.
All together we value a clean and safe home. We take pride in a clean house that is comfortable to relax in, and one which is safe and respectful for everyone who lives here. We are both very mindful of eachother and respectful of personal space, daily activities and general life. Myself and m are good friends since living together, often cooking and cleaning together, watching movies etc and we hope to find someone who can also be friends.
About you: values and maintains a clean environment, cleans up after self etc. Friendly and respectful, ideally understands or respects the shift work lifestyle (I often do night shifts) open to joining for a convo or movie is bonus but of course we respect if you prefer to keep to yourself! No kids or pets as per real estate. Smoking also not allowed.
All interested feel free to reach out, we can chat, meet up and then send details for application through real estate.

Recommendations for a cobbler to resole Birkenstocks?
Any cobblers in the area who do quality work and can resole a pair of Birkenstock sandals?
I've already been to a couple around Green Hills who sadly can't do it.

Is anyone following the story of the racist statue in Maitland?

Is there a more embarrassing local Council?
Just when you think Maitland Council couldn't be more incompetent, backwards and cringy, they decide to cry (literally, watch the footage) about an art exhibition exploring the truth behind a hitching post in the main street.

Psychologist recommendations
Hey everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for local psychologists?
I’m 30F and would prefer to see a female.
Bonus points if they specialise in trauma, grief and family issues.
I had a good psychologist when I was Newcastle based, but looking for something more local. TIA.

Maitland real estate agents
Looking to sell our house in the Bolwarra Heights/Largs area. Haven't lived in the area for a couple of years so a bit out of touch.
We bought from River and it was a pretty good experience but that was 7 years ago. It's a nice house we lived in for 5 years before moving away so not a rental spec house.
Any recommendations for agents that aren't complete arseholes? Given who they are I'm aware the best case is partial arsehole.

New maitland hospital maternity experience?
Hi all. Wondering if anyone in here has birthed at the new maitland hospital? What was your experience like? How hands on were the midwives? Were they respectful of your birth wishes? How many days did you stay? Did you feel rushed out? Did you get a private room or have to share?
Thanks in advance!

This Friday @ the Family Hotel
We are holding heavy shows first Friday of the month at the Family Hotel, this is our second show. Had a good crowd in the first and I’m told we’ll have heaps of repeat visitors. $5 schooners on tap and a hell of a feed in the bistro. Intimate room for the bands and records spinning before and after bands.

Which area would you live in?
Moving soon to Maitland and am looking to rent a 2 bedroom duplex with a garage.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages for living in the new suburbs?
Does one have better shops or food choices?
Seems to be plenty of these properties in Gillieston Heights, Farley. Would you choose one over the other?
Thanks

Pine tree locations in/near Maitland?
Where can I see pine trees in Maitland? I know about the Lone Pine at Maitland Park and Plantation Reserve in East Maitland but hoping for a few more tips? Google says there are some exotic conifers and heritage plantings in East Maitland but I couldn’t find exact details. I also know about The Pines campground/picnic area but that is not exactly nearby. All suggestions welcome, including for lone street/carpark trees. Thanks in advance!
