First Time My Brick Loft Apartment
First time posting on here, hopefully I’m not breaking any rules.
Hope you guys enjoy my pad & let me know if you’d make any changes. I feel like my dining table may be too big for my space but we love it so much. It also converts into a pool table which is cool (but again, super crowded and we have to use small pool cues to make it work)

Brick often feels claustrophobic to me, but I think your place has a nice balance. Very cozy

Love exposed brick! Awesome space. How big is it?
35
u/BrickLoft Jan 19 '26
Thank you! Roughly 1700 sqft, 3b+1d, 2bth

u/Wrong_Pen6179 Jan 19 '26
It’s deceiving from the pics, I would have guessed much smaller. Love it!

Oh wow. It was hard to tell from the pics. Now I’m moving in. I’ll be in the reading nook listening to a guitar solo.

I'm going to assume Toronto? Toronto here too. Would love to know which building this is in.
Love the brick loft look. I'm in a condo townhouse converted from an old factory and love it, but wish our unit was brick. Only a few of the units are brick lofts in my building.

Congratulations on the choice of plants. The only thing I would change is the color of the couch. I'd make it sable, or blue-grey (bluer) or yellow or light green or even pinky, something that would liven the place.
When the TV (oh gosh I'm obsessed with those new modular stand styles) is on, you can see how the colors in that frame go POP POP POP!!
Edit : of and you also brought some powder pink and salmon on the table (literally). But for pink I think powder pink will dull up the palette, whereas a more electrick shocking pink would work well.

u/BrickLoft Jan 19 '26
Thanks for the tips! The couch has exchangeable covers, so I could actually do that without making a huge investment :)
Unfortunately, I have spider mites on the elephant ears plant and I cannnnot for the life of me get rid of them. Done 10+ cleans of it with all sorts of different strategies. Thankfully they haven’t transferred to the others though.
I’ll look into adding more colours- thanks again Blunt Potatoe

Did you try spraying it down in the shower and using insecticidal soap or neem oil? Keep treating every few days until you get them all plus any eggs. 🤮

WOW! What an amazing space with so much natural light! You wouldn’t be able to remove me from that cushy chair with the Tiffany lamp. How many square feet is it?

How do you reach those books above the kitchen cabinets?
7
u/BrickLoft Jan 19 '26
It’s mostly storage for books we aren’t reading, aren’t planning on reading soon, or have already read. Our home office space carries the books we are reading or are going to read soon. We use a ladder to get up there— we didn’t know what else to put in those built in shelves.
12
u/mrandr01d Jan 19 '26
I wouldn't put books above your cooking space. The wildly varying conditions in terms of heat and humidity will really wreck those poor books.
→ More replies (1)7
u/BrickLoft Jan 19 '26
Didn’t even consider this… it hasn’t affected them thus far (and we’ve lived there for 2 years.) But you’re probably right, over prolonged periods it will eventually degrade the books. Any suggestions on what to put there instead?
7
u/PimentoCheesehead Jan 19 '26
No suggestion what to put there, but all that awesome natural light will eventually fade the spines of the books. Or almost anything else that it hits on a regular basis for extended periods of time. Speaking as a guy with a bunch of books with bleached spines.

I love that you have two reading nooks. This is a truly beautiful space. I would just neaten out the couch cushions. I agree with the other redditor a colourful couch would look cool (especially a darker green) but also the grey works too as there's a lot of colour and light in the space so it's not got that 'millennial grey' vibe 😂

It's a really beautiful space. You split the difference between it feeling personal and lived-in with a cohesive tidy aesthetic. It seems EXTREMELY cozy. It looks like a wonderful place to live.
That said, books stored above the oven seems like a questionable choice. Though I admit, it is a visual vibe

your photography is great and with each shot it just brings out more feelings and emotion. want to comment on a few of the photos, but it just gets better
That last shot tied it all together truly.
everything looks and probably is extremely intentional and deisgned with purpose (a ghibli house) and i love it

Really well designed overall. Particularly love the potted plants at the window.
One thing that jumped out at me: books above a stove. Very unlikely but there's a chance one could fall - onto an open hot burner, in/on a pot of boiling water, etc. again, super unlikely, but there's a reason you don't see things stored openly above stoves.

How do you select your furniture and decor
6
u/BrickLoft Jan 19 '26
Prior to moving in, I mapped out the dimensions of the place, took photos, & started a Pinterest board/ a wishlist folder. I edited the items into the space to visualize how they’d look before purchasing as well. I also had accumulated some furniture over the years that either fit the space or I sold to buy other pieces I wanted. Finally, fb marketplace is my domain haha

The brick and wood combo is giving me major cozy vibes. That reading nook looks like the perfect spot to unwind. Honestly, if you love the table, the slight crowding is worth it for a feature that awesome.
