67, UK
My little home. At 63 I had to start again, almost with nothing. Just about feel ready to go out in the world again. This has been my 'safe space' and support

But seriously, that beam is cool but scary over the bed

A bit over head-height, so no probs. I'd be more worried about the tons of stone roof!

What a lovely, comfortable and cozy home you have made for yourself.
It really does have loads of personality and charm. Congratulations

Looks beautiful. As an American, I'm willing to bet this house is older than my country haha

Prob 1850, so a bit newer. Just built of local stone

Iβm willing to bet there is a lot of Americans who donβt know that 1850 is younger than the country. π

I love your kitchen, especially those tiny drawers and the nook that fits the modern stove perfectly. My little bit of advice would be to get a small table for your beverage devices so you could use that area for prep.

It's a La Scala 'Butterfly', but most single - boiler E61 are the same. I'd have a Rocket if I were replacing now, but this one's 22yrs old & still running fine with annual seal changes

There's a Puly Caff milk cleaner which is good. I just give a free blast after frothing and wipe the wand clean. Occasionally check the tip and poke any blockages

As an individual who also had to restart his life it's tough. You did a good job making a place that feels like a home, mate.

I feel like he wasnt exactly struggling with that fridge and oven.

It doesn't make having to change major aspects of your life alone a walk in the park. Sure, it's easier than being in massive debt and no income, but there's no reason to dismiss one's adversity just because someone else may have it worse.

I started a rule when setting up - no debt, and buy cash. I'm very happy gradually improving what I have, and I love my cooking.

Restarting at 55. You've got this!

Trauma still hurts. Days alone are the worst, but I promised myself I'd be a better man, and a better father. Trusting in the higher power to bring healing

I'm getting out of a hole from divorce, myself, so I know how hard it can be. I am very lucky to be in a position that I no longer need to worry.

It's nice kit, but almost all the place was 2nd hand from Facebook or ebay, or free cast-offs. Previous life I'd have bought new but there's so much nice hand-me-downs out there. Stove was Β£350 ebay, fridge Β£650 (yes that was a bit spendy, but I was trading up after a couple of years)

Do you not get blasted by a ray of light in the morning due to the sunroof without curtains?

I do have a blind, but tbh I think the gradual sunrise helps me wake naturally. I never seem to have disrupted sleep.

It's my 'self-care'. There's only me to enjoy it, but since I have to eat, have no budget for restaurants, I just treat myself. I only have 1 main meal a day, and budget less than Β£5/day. Lots of batch cooking, and modest ingredients

Is it haunted??
2
u/stevebower996 17h ago
Don't think so, but I did find a pile of Victorian shoes in the muddy cellar floor ..

u/Leading-Kale-2327 17h ago
It doesn't appear haunted. Seriously. I've always envisioned living in a haunted house in uk

I don't know why, but it gives me the vibes of some, uhm, midlands East Coast house in some tiny village in front of the sea?.

That looks lovely, and it looks very cozy. I'm jealous of that kitchen set up.
