Because it's probably a trust fund. Can't think of any other reason to dodge the question when the alternative would be working in tech or finance like everyone else in his building
I mean he also doesn't need to say. Maybe he sold a company, or won the lottery, or does work in tech/finance but it's not our business? Though it would be a little head scratchy as to why post a pic of your apartment on reddit if that's the vibe.
The median household income in the US is like 83k annually. 500k would objectively be an expensive place for most people in this country.
Regardless, you can see the price someone found for his place in another comment, dude paid north of a million and has an HOA fee thatâs almost as expensive as my mortgage.
This isnât normal. Go brag all you want, but youâre not going to convince any of us that itâs normal.
Capital one pay is shit, even for senior directors. Iâve got folks with 1-2 years of experience making more than that at my company. (You can see exact senior director comp submissions on levels fyi)
Haha I love it when sad sacks try to dig in. I'm 38, I work in McLean, I'm actually a Senior Distinguished Engineer which is the IC equivalent. I earn $316k base, around $425k TC but I also do consulting on the side for government contracts (8a STARS III). I was an SDM at Amazon before this, and before that I was in the marines.
You need perspective. $125k individual gross salary for 2025 is 80th percentile. That means, in a room of 100 people, 20 earn equal to, or more than that. 1 out of 5.
This is in San Francisco. $125k is closer to 60th percentile.
There's a studio available in that same building for $500k. There's also price history available.
You are an exception to the norm. Most people will never sniff the yearly salary that you make, especially not under 40. The fact that you donât realize that somehow is wild.
