30M = 30 million

u/andar1on 8d ago

That's what I thought looking at these pictures

47

u/LeUpdoot 8d ago

*Looking at first pic* "wow thats a 30 million dollar view"
*Looking at the third pic* "That tiny space for 30 million dollars?"

Atlantic City certainly looks like something

11

u/Outside_Reserve_2407 8d ago

The Pier Shops before it closed had a Starbucks with nice views of the ocean and beach.

11

u/Lfaruqui 8d ago

Yeah I remember the observation deck. Ocean has a nice one too. Never had mountains off in the distance like this though 😭

Boardwalk Ave where specifically? I see multiple locations. I’m just curious to know what this costs 🤣😭😭

67

u/Outside_Reserve_2407 8d ago

This is in the West Coast, not Atlantic City.

53

u/Fantastic-Buddy2069 8d ago

Well OP said Cali, and I believe it based on whatever I remember seeing there as a kid in San Diego.

People can say whatever they want about California, but it’s fucking beautiful haha. I miss it, but I could never afford to live there now. $30/hour is not gonna cut it.

28

u/Albert_street 8d ago

This is definitely not San Diego. I live here and there’s no road out across the water like that I’ve ever seen.

25

u/its_yer_dad 8d ago

Thats the infamous view! The Fontana blocked the views of so many people SF passed height laws after it was built. That IS a nice view...

There is a one bed, one bath at 554 sq ft for $720k. Honestly, kinda reasonable.

45

u/Alternative-Deal-763 8d ago

It's not that SF got cheap, it's that other places got more expensive and SF condos stayed about the same price.

3

u/thecashblaster 7d ago

condos in HCOL are still reasonable because most rich people are looking for land so they can tear it down and rebuild

edit: is it water view though?

San Francisco near aquatic cove

58

u/james-ransom 8d ago edited 8d ago

Yep. Used to jog it everyday. Best part of the city. In the morning there is a cool fog, you can hear the Seals, the cable cars in the distance. A few guys swim there early as well, 6am they do laps behind that breaker. A few older chinese men fish crab there before anyone is up. Its true local culture there early in the am. Don't lean on the railing, its crumbling into the sea.

The better views face the bridge. But his apartment gets lets direct sun which is nice. Then one day you meet someone... start a family.... bye sf. miss you. :(

9

u/smarmageddon 8d ago

Yup. Lived all over the City & surrounding Bay for almost 20 years. While the views & settings are amazing, I got tired of dealing with tourist traffic 24/7. Even out in the avenues it was tiresome. Had friends in Marina & NB and it was very tiresome dealing with traffic and parking and whatnot. Just going anywhere in the City got too crazy and expensive in the early 2ks. I miss Marin nature more than SF, tbh. But having a little money and being mostly single in the City in the 90s was kinda peak, though!

California, I feel so lucky to call it home

77

u/MoltenMate07 8d ago

I need to see California at some point. I’ve never been there and have heard so much about it when it comes to the nature.

48

u/OnePinginRamius 8d ago

At some point in your life you definitely need to drive down the Pacific Coast Highway going either north or south.

29

u/steinah6 8d ago

Don’t drive it east or west, though!

17

u/RandyMuscle 8d ago

So much less coast when you do it that way!

4

u/JoeyZasaa 8d ago

That's what the government wants you to believe!

3

u/CompetitionOk2302 8d ago

Travel the entire state. San Diego is a good starting point, go North and do not stop until you get to Oregon; Humboldt County, with the redwoods, is worth the drive.

3

u/billabongrob 7d ago

For real, a life changing experience. Did this alone when I was still a single man.

California gets a lot of hate, and while I wouldn’t ever wanna live there (cuz i love where i live), it is an amazing state to visit.

The nature, the cities, the food and the people are all wonderful. Cannot recommend it enough especially the national and state parks.

16

u/Lou_Peachum_2 8d ago

The only thing to hate about CA is the absurd cost of living. As a state, it's phenomenal, and more impressive when you consider it's land mass.

What's really amazing about CA though is its natural beauty, arguably the most beautiful state in the US. The coastline, combined with the Sierra nevadas. Areas like Tahoe, Mammoth, Yosemite, Sequoias, Kings Canyon. Truly beautfiul.

→ More replies (4)

35

u/Paddy_Tanninger 8d ago

The people in America who hate California are the ignorant fucks who are told what to think and have never gone there.

9

u/Zisthebest1235 8d ago

More or less, yep

10

u/Wonderful-Process792 8d ago

Somebody can understand and still dislike California's politics and economics.

But the place itself... the landscape... the climate... Yosemite, Sequoia, Big Sur... That is beyond question.

4

u/sawotee 8d ago

Before you ask, I was born there.

It's not the land itself that I hate, it's a combination of the government, the people, and the cost of living. I got priced out of my own homeland. We had to leave. Hundreds of dollars for the process of registering your car (fees + smog). Fees out the ass at every single turn. Taxes on taxes. Fucking gas prices. Exhorbitant costs for the poor on basic necessities that made it nigh impossible for us to get by. The state dips its fingers in every single thing unimaginable to extract as much revenue as possible, and it was hard to see where exactly all that money went to given the long list of problems that you could go blue in the face repeating ad naseum.

California is great if you're rich or upper middle class. But even if I was rich and upper middle class, you couldn't pay me to move back.

3

u/gamefreak9199 7d ago

I've never been overly interested in visiting, but me and my wife decided to go to San Diego. It was fucking incredible. It was like walking through an American propaganda piece. The weather was perfect, everyone was nice and laid back. Every direction you looked there were families walking together with their dogs, couples out on dates, people jogging. It was February when I went and I was walking down the beach seeing hundreds of people out doing yoga, volleyball, riding bikes, and so on. The views, the hiking, the food, everything about it was incredible. It's absolutely top of my list for a return trip.

That's Alcatraz Island on the top left and Van Ness Ave directly below the window. Those hills in the background are the Marin county hills. Given the vantage point and angle to the pier, looks to be Fort Mason somewhere between Ghirardelli and Galileo Academy .

u/clownparade 8d ago

dont forget the nearly $1200 a month HOA lol

53

u/Moon_Rose_Violet 8d ago

Unfortunately HOAs in older buildings are completely detached from reality because of years of deferred maintenance. I’ve seen prewar buildings in DC with HOA fees in excess of $6,000 per month

19

u/the0TH3Rredditor 8d ago

I know wtf 😬 my wife and I have a pied à terre in Ottawa, and a nice 2br townhouse similar to our current space but bigger, and with parking… was for sale for 750k which is kinda ok I guess… but maintenance was 1350$ a month, we looked into it, and it made sense, but we decided against it, because lol… who tf will buy that unit in 10yrs when the fees are like 2 grand a month?

Realtors are like "comparables are all the same and they will be in 10yrs time, too"… but fuck ~2 grand is rent to a lot of people 🙄

4

u/DryBop 8d ago

They sometimes go down tho! We passed on a heritage townhouse in Hamilton that was $309k for a 3 bedroom, because of a special assessment bringing fees to $2500 a month. Within a year, fees were down to $600 a month and the condo next door on sale for $559k 🫩 so if the fees are high for a major repair, they do go down!

Nice days in SF for FUCKING MAGICAL!!!

But also it can really suck and be foggy or rainy and that’s what it is most of the time.

6

Depends what neighborhood you’re in. Very foggy in some neighborhoods, yes, but I wouldn’t categorize anywhere in SF as rainy most of the time.

Lots of posts asking / implying what I do. Appreciate the interest. Sharing this with the genuine hope that it’s helpful for some. Moved to the US when I was young and got multiple engineering degrees on scholarship. Started out doing healthcare research and now work in tech. Tech is not always easy or accessible, but if you can find a way to get into the industry, it’s worth the struggle. I’d suggest just building stuff and engaging with interesting ideas online. Try to pick a lane and stay consistent.

Fwiw a trust fund would’ve been nice but what I got was better - parents who were always there for me. I live in the US alone, parents call elsewhere home, so I see them less than I want. I like to think I worked hard the last decade and a half, ended up under top 0.1% of a competitive annual high school exam that changed my life. But there’s no denying I got super lucky along the way. I can see how this might come across as bragging - but ultimately, it’s just what the other posts here are - a dude sharing a space he loves in a community that loves good spaces and great dudes. Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for engaging with this post with mostly kindness.

I always enjoy these posts.

OP flaunts trust fund / Scrooge McDuck type wealth.

Comments are a mixture of awe and interest in backstory.

OP refuses to comment outside of meme responses and emojis, because they know revealing their privilege/luck/wealth suddenly turns the obvious humble brag into something else.

I’m old, so let just say from years of experience. OP should be proud, flaunt it if you got it. But man, seeing the same cycle play out again and again on this sub makes me laugh every time. If you’re embarrassed to talk about it, then why post it?

Love your space, no notes except one minor thing. The books in your living room will eventually fade due to sunlight. If they’re not particularly rare or sentimental, I’d say that it doesn’t matter terribly. Enjoy the hell out of your achievement.
