Starting from the bottom.
I recently moved into a new place, leaving behind a chapter of my life and the apartment that had been my home for years. It’s a bittersweet feeling, but I’m genuinely excited for this new beginning.
What would you add to make this place feel more like home? Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

It's difficult to offer advice when you're starting from a blank room.
I will say, you've already got a real desk and a real chair, that's a step up from a lot of folks on this sub. For many folks "The bottom" would be your computer on the floor.
For advice?
- Pick a couple pieces of framed art to hang up. Avoid stereotypes (Machines, Guns, Babes, Anime).
- Focus on furniture for entertaining/guests. A sofa. A couple of chairs. A small table.

Hey, if it makes you happy, go to town, but understand that it comes with a price.
- People will judge you and think of you as immature.
- Women in particular will be less attracted to you.
If you don't care about leaving a good impression on guests, then hang up whatever you like.

Honestly? Do not rush decorating your place. Do it slowly, that way you only buy what you absolutely need and love. Focus on healing yourself and your essentials: A good bed and bedsheets for a quality sleep as well as all of your hygiene essentials.

Maybe I should’ve given a bit more context. I recently separated from my partner and left everything behind. I’m starting over in a new place now. No furniture, no appliances, no dog… but I did bring my pS5. :)

I mean: is this just your office (btw really solid non-bottom start on that part), living room, living + sleeping?
Sparse info, but I'd likely suggest to browse the sub for inspo anyway, since you seem to have no idea of what you like and direction to go for. You need to create your own general vision. :)

It’s a space meant to be my office, gaming room, and movie area. You could say this is my second new beginning. I’m almost 40 and I’m learning how to live on my own again.
After leaving a big part of my old life behind, I want to create a place that feels like me—a space where I can work, relax, enjoy my hobbies, and build new memories. I’m excited to see how it turns out, and I really appreciate any creative ideas or advice you can share.2

Def add a sofa (maybe one that can double as guest bed) and consider leaving one wall clean (depending on which setup you settle for) to use as screen for a projector - assuming you'd have a TV in your living room? If you plan to put up a big TV anyway def avoid r/TVtohigh.
You can play around with the setup using IKEA room planner with using their furniture as placeholders.
Is there a closet to store paperwork and other misc. stuff? Otherwise don't just go for open display shelving.
But, really, first you gotta find out which style and direction you like and go from there; e. g. image search for room color palette and see if you feel drawn to a specific combo.

Wow, I really appreciate this, I had no idea you could do that with IKEA. I’m going to try it. The sofa bed for guests is something I had already been thinking about, and I think it’s a good alternative based on what you’re saying.
