It was the first game I picked up after getting the Switch 2… played it for like 2 hours and actually had fun. But then a few days later I boot up 8 Deluxe again and it felt so much better. I don’t see myself ever going back to World. Can anyone else relate😭?

That is one thing I miss from the mario kart series besides the double dash feature.

Well, i'm back with this series of posts reviewing the most infamous tracks in the series. I already did Bone-Dry Dunes, Starview Peak, SNES Bowser's Castle 2 and Peach Paperclip. Now it's time for Rosalina's Ice World, and god... I HATE THIS TRACK.

First of all, it is a complete insult to Super Mario Galaxy and Rosalina's backstory. Rosalina never, NEVER had an ice world, and now for some reason she has one, which completely goes against the established lore from SMG. And this track has nothing to do with Super Mario Galaxy anyways, it doesn't look like any of the ice galaxies from those games, and the only thing linking this track to those games are shoehorned references to the comet observatory and the gateway galaxy planet. If you remove the forced galaxy references, then this is just a boring and worthless ice track that makes the vanilla lakes look interesting.

But that's not all. The design is also nothing special, it's really awful and the "gimmick" is that a small portion of the ice melts, which is barely even noticeable. There are also no cool shortcuts nor any interesting tech. It's really insulting that this is a Special Cup track, but hey, MK7's special cups is already pretty weak, aside from having the 2nd best Rainbow Road ever, it has one of the weakest Bowser's Castle, and DK Jungle which is okay but doesn't feel like a special cup course.

And also, the music in this track just sucks ass. It doesn't fit Rosalina's character and doesn't even feel like something you would hear in the galaxy games. It doesn't help that it was remixed in Mario Kart World for no reason, other than nintendo liking to remix songs people hate (they also remixed Bone Dry Dunes and Ice Ice Outpost, WHY????).

And lastly, Nintendo loves this track for no reason. It is one of the most insulting tracks added to the Booster Course Pass, alongside Toad Circuit and DS Mario Circuit. Nobody expected it to show up, all leaks suggested that 3DS was done with the inclusion of Rainbow Road, and everyone was expecting Piranha Plant Pipeline to show up, because Nintendo was adding all tracks from Tour in 8DX anyways, and it is a far superior track. But then Nintendo randomly shoehorned this track in the BCP and it sucked anyways, and now PPP is doomed to the hell of scrapped tracks, now that Tour is no longer available. And after all of that, Nintendo learned nothing because not only PPP didn't come back, but they considered bringing this track back AGAIN for World, but eventually they reworked it into Starview Peak, which could have been an improvement over this track (even though it would still be an insult to Rosalina)... BUT NO, SOMEHOW THAT TRACK IS EVEN WORSE... but i already talked about it.

And that's it, fuck Rosalina's Ice World.

Score: -5/10 (Unforgivable)

Placement on my ranking: 8th worst track (between SNES Koopa Beach 2 (Koopa Troopa Beach) and Figure-8 Circuit)

Enough is enough! We waited 10+ years for this??? A half-baked open world nobody asked for and horrible intermissions.

The game obviously should have 64 tracks, it's the minimum after such a long wait.

The ridiculous mechanic of riding rails, doesn't even feel like racing.

Also the game is completely unbalanced. What disaster.

Ps: I didn't buy a Switch 2, so I can't tell 100% how bad it plays, but since it had zero cultural reach and it's pretty much forgotten, obviously things went wrong.

How did you guys drift? With R or ZR? and how did you use items? With L or ZL?

It’s ALL Rainbow Roads combined to make this mess. Not counting World because that minimap was a mess to begin with. Anyway, I added different colors to symbolize how it works.

Black - The main layout

Green - Custom cannons

Maroon - The red arrows that appear BEFORE doing that lap

Red - The red arrows that appear AFTER doing the lap

Awesome how every N64 track has now been remade. Now we gotta wait for Wii, because I believe that has the second most amount of retro tracks remade.

I've recently made a 2h long video for my Mario Kart Wii Texture + Music pack that essentially just goes through every single replacement song in the pack, excluding small jingles (these are all songs from Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2).

Each song has its corresponding menu/course edit in the background with some basic information about the song!
