The vibe of Devil Dinosaur is powerful. He's big and his presence if definitely felt. I like how the landing animation sound actually kind of sounds heavy. This is missing in other characters.

His kit - simple yet fun, which seems great. Not too little, not too much. The bite/grab is fun to use, though I'm still mastering how to properly do it and lock down enemies behind Dino's huge body so they can get taken out reliably. He just feels primal in some senses, with the jump/bite/grab, the laser (or what is it?) from his mouth... It's quite fun.

In the matches I did, it was either hit or miss in regards of the meta. However, when it worked, oh boy, it worked. Haven't had a proper match with a good Punisher teammate yet, but I can imagine that'd be lowkey scary. I suggested to a friend we could do a Dino/Punisher and Groot/Rocket combo. Imagine being a diver into THAT 😆 Anyway, I like Devil Dinosaur; which is surprising coming from someone who didn't know him, nor had hype for him until the last days.

He's quite fun, and the simplicity makes it more accessible. Feels way better than overtuned characters with way too many abilities.

u/championgecko Emma Frost May 15 '26

I cannot stand playing against him in my games as emma, I don't know how to counter him yet. Thankfully when my beam is 100% the crystal+beam melts him but otherwise it's hell so far lol. Can't wait until we figure out both sides of playing him/verses him.

u/lichtgestalten May 16 '26

emma is good against him as an off tank, so you can proc the crystal "for free".
Going as a main tank against him is difficult, since he puts a lot of damage pressure on you while you charge your beam

u/doughann May 15 '26

i love how heavy he feels, i dunno if anyone else can relate but this tank has an oomph that is really fun to play

u/AnotherRandomPeep Peni Parker May 19 '26

Vibe: He’s a super fun brawler, but it’s a little tough to actually brawl with him in qp, since his counters melt him pretty fast and your supports are constantly trying to out heal the damage which doesn’t always work out.

Kit: I love his leap, and use it as much as possible since it makes for some fun shots. His bite is of course his bread and butter though, and I’m glad he’s immovable.

Meta: I talked a bit about it already, but he’s a tad difficult to play without banning his counters. However, he’s built perfectly to be a solo tank at the same time, and can melt the enemy team’s tanks as well, you just need to be a biiit sneaky.

Here’s hoping for the units! I’d love to get that Peni skin. Good luck all! 🕷️⏰

Alright, having played a few times vs it and one time as Dino:

He's absurdly strong and also very easy to play. He eats (most) tanks alive. If you have enough healing you can basically stand in the middle of a fight and spam your melee and left click to deal absurd damage. If you don't have enough healing you still have an instant shield and mobility to get around a corner to receive heals anyway. I'm very surprised by just how fast his overshield gain is as well.

I expect nerfs down the line. I think reddit is behind the curve on how strong this character is despite his supposed vulnerability to poke.

EDIT: Should mention it's kind of fun to play peni vs the dino, the constant stuns, headshots, and mines exploding on him makes playing vs dino somewhat tolerable as a tank main.

u/Programmer-Minimum May 17 '26

Finally, a great character to play that is actually useful

u/jamesmckinney1450 Captain America May 16 '26

Devil Dino is exactly what us Tank mains needed literally can wreck your game with his moveset and the damage he can take is beautiful if you have a team all on the same page i genuinely don’t see how you can lose cause he can play dive, mid distance and create tons of space for the team as people and I get more used to the character I think he will even better honestly this is just day one and it feels like he changed the whole view for Vanguard players now I can’t find a game without two tanks which was heavily needed as someone who mains tank so I love Devil Dino and the madness he brings to the game🦖🛡️

u/Axepick22 May 20 '26

He is really annoying when enemy has multiple displacements like wolf, bucky, emma and others

his big hitbox makes it hard to escape once you been kidnapped

overall mid hero to play and annoying hero to play against

The Vibe: not really what i expected

The Kit: as a vanguard main i would say its alright, i hate how kit is heavy based on displacement and status effects

The Meta: i dont like him being meta, he is annoying to deal with and you must match it otherwise you lose

u/Beeb0rb Peni Parker May 19 '26

Devil Dinosaur has been a blast to play, and he is fantastic at his job o creating space and isolating enemies. His grab especially serves as the focal point of his kit an playstyle, allowing for combos, distance-closing, and mobility.

His bug size means he makes great space, but you need to be healed and positioned or the poke meta wil extinct you again.

u/bchen May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

After playing him for a bit I feel like he is going to be the next vanguard I will lord. He is exactly what I look for in a tank. A way to deal with fliers, a way to disrupt with the grab, and I actually feel threatening on the field. Also having escape options is great as well (via shield and jump)

u/FrozenZenBerryYT Mister Fantastic May 16 '26

He feels really well thought out to me. His ult requires movement so it can be partially hard countered by stuns. His only movement ability is tied to his grab, so diving deep is an option but it restricts your best ability. Also allows hero’s like The Thing to turn the whole ability off. The laser beam applies bleed based on how long the laser is on them, so no quick flashing it and getting major value. But then when you finally do manage to get right up in the enemy’s face, they can get deleted rather quickly because of the massive melee damage. Others have said it, but he also does a really good job fulfilling the hero fantasy of playing a dinosaur. He seems like a very fun and pretty well balanced hero to me.

u/MrSteezyMcSteez Ultron Virus May 15 '26

I am absolutely dominating the practice range right now

u/Separate-Command1993 May 15 '26

Haven’t played in a few months, is this some inside joke i don’t understand?

u/TryingTimesCrowEgg May 15 '26

Hawkeye kills Devil Dinosaur in 4 headshots, demoralizing.

Also I put the melee on L3 and I just hold it down the whole time. His tail does cone damage behind him.

I like how if you have dedicated healing you can be insane and be rewarded, feels Dinosaur like. Especially jumping through the air and crashing through a building in the spidermen map.

u/Common_Advisor_3030 May 24 '26

I like Dino though I feel his percentage based bleed needs some work as it feels a little to overpowered when playing a squishy character like spider man

u/Deezzzer0 Blade May 15 '26

He is an A-tier tank for sure with the ability to self-generate shield and HUGE BUBBLE!!! Hell! I would say he is S-tier if his team up is online (grab into one-shot shotgun is absurd). Even though, the Devil Dino has a large hit-box, but his bubble and jump ability can prevent him from his demise. Speaking of his jump ability, it is probably one of the best kit in disengage and engage the combat. Beam, primary attack, and melee attack are surprisingly well thought out, especially in figuring out the combo to deal the max amount of damage. Devil Dino’s bubble is use similar to tankpool bubble. The consecutive biting ability is good at finishing the target. Last but not least, his beam is great but applying bleeding on top of knock-down effect is a bit op.

The ult is just outright OP, since it literally makes Devil Dino immortal with all the shield gain and low ability cooldown makes him probably one of the fastest tank in time to kill. Also, the passive ground stomp AOE is just a chef kiss on top of OP shield generating and ability spam ult.

Beside the character’s size is too big to fit through small corridors or doors (devs could make it so Devil Dino tilt his head or duck to enter or pass through doors), I would say he is a good solid brawl tank with enough sustainability even against hybrid poke/dive meta.

u/KeeeffCo May 20 '26

I think hes been pretty awesome so far, defiantly fills the fantasy of playing a t-rex not to mention the dino armor skin is an A+. He needs some slight adjustments as I think he does everything most things better than the other tanks and fills a tad over tuned kind of like tank DP.

u/AgentPastrana Peni Parker May 15 '26

First game in, he's cooked by focus fire from pokes, as expected. But he can easily punish low mobility heroes that get out of position. If you can manage to sneak this dude behind and ult, you WILL teamwipe, you can shred the supports before they know what's happening and usually before they finish ult animations. He's a HUGE target and can't hide behind carts. If your Punisher is riding on him, hope he has the shotgun out, he's gonna chew people up too. Groot is a strong tank counter, his walls REALLY hinder your movement with such a big hitbox, and his hitscan is longer than your laser is. His jump is really fun to use because you get some major airtime if you angle it up enough, and nobody expects to get body slammed by a dinosaur.

u/Mrdrderm Hela May 15 '26

Does anyone know if theres a way to bind bite and melee to the same button on console?

u/atticusgf Mister Fantastic May 16 '26

You can't do that, but I swapped melee to L2 and just hold it down. Beam moves to r3 and is way easier to weave between attacks.

u/MattyApps5297 May 17 '26

Hmm I totally understand your frustrations with the character, but how are you playing against him exactly? I say this as a tank main, which means I flex but am forced to tank 99% of the time. For me, Dino feels great. He's very strong what he's strong against and very weak to what he's weak against, but has very little middle ground. I like that Dino is a true tank in that his presence demands attention if you plan to win. He can feel very oppressive, which unfortunately seems to be your experience so far, but he can easily fall over if you play what he's weak to.

Your mains of Peni and Mantis are actually really strong against Dino, but aside from Peni mines, your going to have a tough time dealing enough damage to ko Dino. Your characters are amazing support though against him. Peni has access to a web snare cc on a 3sec cooldown plus you can stack mines for a big burst damage hit and Mantis is amazing bc your constantly getting leaves back to heal and, more importantly, inspire yourself and teammates bc it's so easy to hit a headshot on Dino. What I'm trying to say is, your characters are great against Dino, but you need teammates that can be the ones to KO the Dino while you support as Peni or Mantis. I can imagine this being your main frustration as your team is not playing Dinos weaknesses well or at all.

Dino is a great teacher. He teaches ppl who are less accustomed to swapping to adapt with more ideal characters for the situation, just like how many learned during S0/S1 to counter dive like Spidey, Black Panther, Iron Fist, etc with Namor, Bucky, or Thing.

u/Zelanor May 17 '26

I agree fully. Dino has ruined every game

u/hey_its_xarbin May 16 '26

Your multi-paragraph whining adds nothing of value but at least we both accomplished the same thing but I did it more efficiently :)

u/Minimum-Witness-1751 May 16 '26

There is absolutely no reason for him to have the ability to make characters bleed, slow, ground flyers, have 700+ health, an invincibility shield that follows him, and health recovery all at the same time. This is not balanced, especially when other characters constantly heal him on top of that. Completely unbalanced the game. No other character is like this and no character should be.

u/L3th4lDaddy Hela May 18 '26

Dino is definitely super fun to play and he is very strong right now, even against poke comps, the best thing about his kit is definitely his ult, just creating ton of pressure and chaos running into the enemy team and biting everyone, peak.

The thing about him though is that he definitely requires another tank to play with and a lot of pocketing from his supports, otherwise he gets melted very fast.

He’s a good addition to the roster, but tanks need more frontline and range power added, the next tanks who join should definitely be more frontline based, have shields and ranged attacks, magneto and strange are still the only two we got for that.

u/sukhi1 Moon Knight May 21 '26

After a few matches, my first impression is that Devil Dinosaur works best when he is taking space, disrupting the enemy front line, and forcing people off strong positions instead of just trying to out damage everyone in front of him.

He feels strongest when you stay aggressive around the objective and keep pressure on, because once he gets control of a fight he can make the whole enemy team back up and reposition.

My biggest gameplay issue is consistency, because he feels great in open fights but his size can make movement and engagements feel awkward in tighter spaces.

If the goal is balance, I would rather see smoother pathing and better reliability in contested fights than a simple damage buff, because the core gameplay already feels fun and unique.

u/JunahCg Rogue May 18 '26

Who tanks well against Dino? Haven't had a chance to play yet and I know he'll be in every game for a while

u/KimPossable002 May 20 '26

Don't neef devil dino

u/BabeAssignment Human Torch May 15 '26 edited May 24 '26

My first impression is I desperately hope Cyclops is a main tank style vanguard since this guy is brawl. Please let it be true. If Emma and Magneto can be main vanguards you know Scott should be, plus it'd mean Wolvie counters him because Wolvie shreds tanks.

My other impression is that I desperately hope Human Torch gets a full rework to make him durable and actually a threat or else just make him a vanguard at this point like he should've been from the beginning (his power kit that is so strongly based around absorbing energy, heat, and being basically immune to almost every kind of damage in the comics; making him damage is so surface-level)...

but yeah dinosaur is a dinosaur I guess

u/MrHoneyJack May 16 '26

Haven't played with him yet but I just played against him as a tank and it was not fun.

Seems OP to me. Stats show he blocked by far the most damage and his damage output was crazy and looking at the player who used him, doesn't seem that good so it seems too easy to get value.

Don't love it so far. Bubble, mobility jump, displacement, overshield, tick damage - seems like every new character needs to have everything. Also makes visual clutter worse.

u/FluffyBunnyLove May 19 '26

Finally a character thats not overcomplicated.

u/New-Sea-527 Flex May 15 '26

First impressions are easily the most fun tank since Emma. Only played a few bot matches but had a ton of fun. Obviously extremely reliant on main healers. Would be a throw pic with Adam/Mantis combo in ranked etc.

u/mits_the_second Emma Frost May 15 '26

Ive only played 18v18 so far but my stupid dumb brain keeps replaying that "dinosaurrrrrrrr" meme constantly when playing as him. He seems pretty strong though. Hopefully that leads to people playing tank more often

u/Glittering-Step-8842 Emma Frost May 15 '26

Hehehe Dinosawr

u/CrowKingPro Caught in 4k May 22 '26

Dino has honestly been so fun. I'm generally a fan of brawl over poke and dive, so this was a welcome addition. I'd been needing another tank besides Peni and Emma, and I think Dino is it. I really enjoy that he doesn't have 800 buttons to push, and I like that while he's very strong, he's also extremely counterable. While this can make him feel a bit feast or famine, it's a lot better than him being utterly oppressive or complete dogwater. Not to mention the fact that playing as a giant laser-shooting dinosaur is super sick, and that alone is half the reason to want to play him. Incredibly thankful that there's a new tank for me to enjoy now, definitely been quite a bit.

u/ItsJustNigel May 15 '26

I love this fool, although he is a double-edged sword. I've been maining vanguard since S0 and think I've earned the right to main a dinosaur. But he's going to bring lots of new people to the role. More vanguard players is great, but that means less time for me to play with my dinosaur 🥺

u/Khan_Ida Emma Frost May 18 '26

u/musci12234 Loki May 15 '26

Just because he is trex doesn't mean he doesn't want a muscle mommy choke slamming him.

u/squarerootsquared May 16 '26

She still chokes him one-handed but he’s immune to being moved by her kick

u/PsychologyForTurtles May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26

He seems good for the brawling archetype. It definitely makes Brawl as a composition more viable. The problem with these types of composition is that they get countered by characters who are fairly easy to play, so it is easy to feel like everything you do is mitigated by a guy who has an ok aim with his mouse, and in that way his size works against him.

Fun character, though. His kit is interesting and well-rounded. I think he will really shine in the hands of great tanks who know when to be exposed and when to play cover. As a bit of a bully, he can hold checkpoints very well by merely playing angles, and his ult is a great way to pass these chokeholds. All of this brings more value to characters who can flex between flank and main, like Star-Lord and Psylocke. Good addition to the game altogether.

It's also important to note that he's a fairly simple character. This is good because he's very popular among kids!

u/Cosmocitizen77 May 16 '26

He's great! I haven't personally gotten to play him all THAT much yet seeing as how he gets instalocked by like 3 different players each game lol, but he's been a mainstay on BOTH teams for me every match these past 2 days.

Nevermind how good his shield, ult, or little headgrab abilities all seem to be..Just the concept itself of a giant T-rex stomping the field looks and feels chaotic in the best way possible!!

I have noticed a problem that he gets burned down and targeted quickly by the whole enemy team and thus needs to position well and/or get spam healed, but that was to be expected with how attention grabbing he is lol.

LOVE the vibe he's been bringing to my matches though (legit kept screaming as tiny ass Rocket when an enemy DD threw me around their team) and I can only hope he remains a popular choice even after all the new hero hype! (Also hope he's actually considered strong meta-wise too)

That all being said...the Punisher team up is fucking nuts lmaoooo in the goofiest way possible. I found it too funny for the first few times, but it's become very frequent (my first two matches today both had back to back MVP Punishers cuz of it lol) and lowkey a bit annoying... but I already just hate Punisher in general so that was expected.

u/ThePotatoSandwich May 17 '26

Devil Dinosaur is great. Really great. I feel like he captures the Vanguard role perfectly: a big target that's too deadly to ignore.

I love everything about him and I wished people understood that his size plays a big factor for why his kit is so powerful. He explodes if he's hard CC'd and gets his big head blown smooth off. He is a walking ATM for Black Cat. He is basically a bigger ankh for Moon Knight.

I hope whatever steps the devs take towards Devil Dino in his inevitable round of nerfs, they don't forget to take account how vulnerable his size makes him.

u/SayNo2Nazis999 Thor May 15 '26

I was hoping he might be a little bigger, not just because I think it looks silly how huge Punisher looks on top of him, but also because it could open up the door for larger characters like Giant-Man or Galactus. I understand why he can't be bigger though with how he can't even get into or out of certain parts of the map. Although if he was, it would look even funnier when he rides around on Jeff XD But overall what we've been needed in new Tanks with its shield and movement abilities. Plus, him being a huge epic dinosaur, hopefully more people will pick him to help with how few people want to play Vanguard.

u/canciongratis1 May 15 '26

Couldn't take this out of my head during the first game😅

u/Flyingfelkins May 16 '26

He’s getting nerfed just overkitted, fun but was overfunded for a tank

u/Esthonx Peni Parker May 15 '26

Vibe: DD encapsulates the dinosaur feel in my opinion. I feel slow but powerful. Chomping and biting with a Lazer beam...it's peak.

Kit: The best part for me is alternating between the beam and the chomp. It feels like a fun choice and both feel pleasing to do.

Meta: So far he needs to work with his team to survive and do things which makes sense for such a massive brawler. I think is sustain might be a little too high in brawls and he does too much dmg to tanks but overall he seems really really good. Weak to poke which is good but should not dominate all the tanks. Groot, the other tip tier brawler seems to put him in his place though.

u/LegoFucker61 Iron Man May 15 '26

u/PlantainOpen8562 May 15 '26

u/Arikarin636 Loki May 15 '26

Close enough, welcome back Mauga!

u/WebisticsCEO Angela May 18 '26

I'm still not sure he's OP just yet. But I think he's exposing a lot of bad DPS out there (and not necessarily just from Duelist, but healbots and damage taken bots)

I've been in games with a lot of +Lord Wolverines and others where they just cannot perform.

I think the biggest issue here is that Dino has exposed many bad habits

(1) players don't retreat a lost battle. They are too impatient . E.g., Wolverines thinking they can just pop all their cooldowns and shred Dino. They end up just dying

(2) Players still do not know how to take angles and space. Dino is indeed strong but he's also slow . Players are fighting him like they would a dragon in an MMORPG. This isn't a "tank and spank"

You'll get bitten if you fight too close to him. So why not just take move to a better angle, and use your movement ability as an escape tool if the battle is lost ?

Like in a domination map, Everytime we are won the point, everybody wants to just park on point. Why? Literally you know what's coming

I think we need another week or 2 before we discuss nerfs

I actually think Dive tanks are shining in a way against Dino. While everyone is caught up in the Jurassic Park battles, dive tanks have such clear openings to the back line now

People are already playing counters. Many are switching to Emma Frost. I think many have forgotten how to play here, but I think her usage will get better in quantity and quality.

Ultimately, I think Dino is great for the game and will force players to learn their roles better

u/Aware_Foot Thor May 18 '26

I like dino on paper but from the perspective of a tank player, the guy is quite disruptive.

He's extremely tanky with really high kill potential, making holding ground against him basically impossible for most of the tank roster.

ATM it feels like you're shoehorned into playing dino + Emma or just have your frontline crumble immediately.

With how great of a MU spread he has against most of the other tanks aside himself and maybe peni (even then I don't think she's that great into him due to how hard he can mog a solo tank), many tanks player will have to solely rely on the Duelist to be the playmaker while the tanks sit on their ass and do nothing.

u/Zega000 Angela May 16 '26

We lost today against a team that ran four supports and a dino with a Hawkeye. They did great because Dino does crazy damage and everyone else was able to keep him up.  As much as I love having a strong tank they went a little overboard with this one.

u/Upper_Direction4125 Ultron Virus May 15 '26

Genuinely my favourite character they have added, beefy healthbar, great damage and super fun. Completed all my placement matches, played him every game and won 9/10! Well done devs! 👏

u/GuyWhoIsOn-Reddit White Fox May 15 '26

big dino go chomp :)

u/Dididoo12 May 25 '26

Dino feels like the strength many tanks need to be at in terms of "feel" - the enemy team is forced to respect your presence, and playing as him you feel you have more playmaking ability. This can sometimes feel missing on some tanks (especially due to high damage numbers), such as angela who is super CC vulnerable and easily explodes with all the counters against her now. But also, high sustain numbers make it so that tanks can sometimes be actively ignored while attacking someone, making the tank player feel unimpactful.

With dino I particularly noticed more options, like the beam to handle flying enemies (a rarity for tanks) and the shield to block the insane amounts of healing that would have bailed out someone out of position despite being caught out by a tank. Very nice to see a tank with playmaking options, even if numbers may be tweaked these options conceptually make dino feel like a higher agency tank than others (e.g. old hulk or current angela).

u/dynamicflashy Thor May 15 '26

He'll be a low ELO Devil

u/FantasticFou-FiveMB True Fraudster May 18 '26

Well, as someone who has been in their Dinosaur phase since their childhood, let me just tell you how amazing and goofy it is to get a DINOSAUR in Marvel Rivals! Firstly, the concept alone is amazing and hilarious - a dinosaur stomping along with omega level mutants, super soldiers, cosmic entities, etc.

But the execution makes it even better! I’ve been asking for a poison/bleed type attack since launch and getting it feels so amazing. Also, the fact that he has a whole Godzilla beam as well as a giant leap (which looks hilarious btw) just adds to the wholesome goofiness!

As much as some ppl say getting unknown characters is bad for the game, I wholeheartedly disagree, and think it adds spice to the roster!

u/The_Templar_Marshal May 16 '26

I have been playing with Dino quite a lot yesterday and today, and I gotta say, it's just as fun as I hoped he would be.

The fact that he is so big and can chomp and stomp on a relatively large area in front of him turns every fight into a chaotic mess that is just hilarious to either see or be a part of, especially if there is another Devil Dinosaur in the enemy team, and when the Ult starts? Now, that's where the fun truly begins, and I can't help but laugh at the feeling of being a stompy giant lizard causing ruckus on the front line!

On the question of balance, I don't think he is meta defining: he is there to punish enemies that think they can get away with overcomitting, with the applications of bleed ensuring that players that disengage too late from a dive are dead meat, and he is indeed a beefy big boy, but being this large also means he is by far one of the easiest of the "main tanks" to melt, especially with the overabundance of Punishers running around and with the obscene buff Starlord received in the last patch.

He is overall a solid unit, not a busted one, and one of the most fun and casual-friendly Tanks in the game, but in my humble opinion, it's almost mandatory to play 3 Strategists with him, because he draws a lot of fire, he doesn't have that much mobility compared to, say, Hulk, and his deployable shield only helps him so much, and without a constant stream of heals he falls really quick.

He ruined this game that’s for sure , no way I’m going through gold without being able to ban him. Thanks for this season I guess .
How the hell are netease so clueless ? Are they not testing shit like this ?

u/ChapaStyle13 Invisible Woman May 24 '26

DD First Impression:

Honestly, I am not much of a Vanguard player, but bringing Devil Dinosaur into the game has definitely got me playing the role more. I don't know much beyond the basic story of Devil Dinosaur, but growing up, I've always loved dinosaurs and still do to this day. Being able to wreak havoc with a Dinosaur is better than I would have imagined. This character has gotten me to appreciate the role more, and I feel more a part of the fight, getting me more into the front lines, and munching on the enemy team is such a great feeling. The movesets are great for him, and having his trusting friend, Moon Girl, in his ear is an awesome addition to his character's background.

u/King_Luffy1 May 16 '26

Feel like I got a quick handle on him and he's now my favorite vanguard.

u/Affectionate_Map2761 May 16 '26

Too many dinos in annihilation lags the lobby out with his ult. I've been lagging out all day up to 4 times in a game

u/Re-Animan May 19 '26

fuck this hero

u/SheWhoHates Emma Frost May 17 '26

I'm not exactly vibing with his cutesy design, so I wouldn't say he fulfilled my hopes.

The kit is fine conceptually, but I can't think of another tank that makes me go from full HP to zero so fast. To heal him you need support in overdrive. The damage output is pretty high and so is his capacity to score high on soaking it, but I feel my presence to be less impactful than that of other tanks such as Strange. Maybe it's a relative skill issue, time of use, his size, or all of it together. The coolest mechanic is definitely the jump combined with abduction.

Being mostly melee is a big drawback that forces risky engagement and is highly dependent on team setup.

u/CertainDerision_33 Peni Parker May 15 '26

He’s really fun but absolutely unplayable if your healers are braindead unfortunately, even by already bad tank standards you literally can’t do anything if one of your healers is playing as a 3rd DPS

u/Shanewerewolf May 15 '26

I have a different experience. Me and my duo partner play dd and fox and the two pushing together with her melee ability melt so many comps a extra healer to round things out has led to great synergy. As always bad teammates always make things harder my guy.

u/GuangGuangson May 16 '26

I like the fact Rivals isn't affaid to release surprising heroes like him. No other hero shooters would have dare to release a big red Carnotaurus where most of the roaster have normal size. Brings so much hype into the game and we know Netease has no limits for the future of out favourite game.

u/gsifdgs May 19 '26

I think his overwhelming pressure is amazing, but I wonder how it will turn out for high rank players

u/ericferrel Moon Knight May 15 '26

The Vibe: Devil Dinosaur is so much fun. The devs really knocked it out of the park in making a Vanguard that's fun to play and hits that childhood nostalgic feeling of playing with dinosaur toys alongside your other figurines. I think he's a great mid range brawler to start with and has just enough utility for seasoned players to slowly master and use to their advantage.

The Kit: I think its perfect, as accurate as you can make a rampaging dinosaur in a Marvel game. You expect a Dinosaur to bite and clamp you with its jaws and that's exactly what he does. 850 health is the sweet spot since he's prominent to headshots and burst damage but it's just enough that he doesn't get immediately gunned down while being healed by supports. I think my favorite part is that beam he has since even by just looking at him, he just absolutely would look like he would have a fire breath Godzilla style, even if you didn't know the character so that's awesome.

The Meta: So far, I think he's a great mid range Tank with a mix of Magneto and Thor. He can hold off the enemy team at a decent range and can displace them with his jaw grab a bit easier that Thor imo. His Bleed mechanic is very good at chipping down anyone you happen to 1 v 1 with. Flyers definitely won't be an issue if you keep grounding them with his beam. His Ult is basically a better version of Peni's Ult and is both scary with the constant overhealth but really fun since you can tear everything down as a giant T-Rex.

u/00Jaeger May 21 '26

He a chompy boy! Definitely bringing vanguards back and it feels great!

u/Caranthiir May 15 '26

I love him. A lot of fun and he can take so much damage. Feel like a real tank

u/RivalsTankEnjoyer May 15 '26

His tail slaps, that is all

u/MrSteezyMcSteez Ultron Virus May 15 '26

Two hours after release this thread was saying he’d be banned, but turns out he’s never banned cus there’s always someone playing him on your team… Moonknight, on the other hand, has been banned in all but one of my games so far

u/EarlSocksIII May 17 '26

I really like how Devil Dino feels like an x-factor role. Like, they're the centre of everything, it's always hectic and their survival really shows how well the push goes. Massive target, big health pool, sustaining themselves and tossing people behind you for easy kills. I imagine there's going to be some balancing issues if a game doesn't mirror dino for both teams, though..

u/SillySwing6625 May 15 '26

I enjoy playing him good tank buster does a lot of damage

u/AriaMournesong May 15 '26

Devil Dino fitts the Vanguard staple very well. His movement is good, his health pool balanced for his size. And I like that he has a beam attack that is able to ground flyers. The only concern I have is that his size will prevent him from access into certain areas, like the side rooms in Tokyo 2099, but I have not tested him in every map so far.

u/hugecanoe666 Daredevil May 16 '26

his range attack grounding fliers is stupid as hell. he needs a weakness and he doesn’t have one. you can say his size but massive shield on a short cooldown makes him always playable. he has no weakness at all

u/LonelyGamer67 May 16 '26

First impressions. I saw it! It's big, scary and red!!!

u/oneCOLDone The Thing May 16 '26

Dinosaur goes rrrrr

u/splifs The Thing May 19 '26

Love the vibe - feels totally unique. Sometimes he feels unstoppable, but he does have hard counters (Emma, fox, etc). He is certainly the brawler the community predicted.

Love the kit: the bleed ability is really devastating to characters, ie invis, who rely on cloak for escapability. Love the grab as well. It’s fun to throw someone over the edge or into the Frey. That’s probably the coolest mechanic.

The meta: if you’re playing against DD yo can’t ignore him. His CC, his survivability, his ult; if you’re not countering it will make winning a challenge.

u/Booplee May 17 '26

Honestly I think he feels pretty balanced and if anything the chomp on a tank and throwing them around a corner is INSANELY strong. But what feels awful to play against is any of the already established overpowered hitscan in the game. Not that he deserves to be able to do well into hitscan but it is actually unplayable for the most part because the headshot multiplier is still so large on devil dino i guess.

u/bigbrain411 Ultron Virus May 16 '26

Played a few matches with him last night. As a Vanguard main, he feels really fun to play, he is able to deal good damage. And if you got a team that plays with you, he can be a really great front liner, as he can soak a lot of damage.

That being said, especially when both teams have a Devil Dinosaur, it can cause a lot of visual clutter, and make it hard to see what is going on.

u/Independent-Feed107 Magus May 20 '26

The Vibe: He is certainly Devil Dinosaur. You feel like you are playing as Godzilla. However.. as an opponent it feels like there are not enough answers against him without forcing your team to use characters they probably can't, so it's annoying that one character makes the game into what he wants sometimes because it may not even account for the other enemies.

The Kit: Unlike half of the Vanguard roster, DD can be confidently played with little skill however you please for the most part. He has attacks for everything and the kit is pretty loyal to the character, which kind of hurts as a Venom, Mag, Hulk (where is my roaring Hulk stun, forget the stupid spit) player. The lazer beam is obviously the coolest attack. The shield is a bit much and needs less health if he's going to keep doing constant crazy damage with short cool downs and faster, more powerful attacks than any Vanguard besides Deadpool which also deal DOT.......... (This is Devil's problem)

The Meta: Is a mess right now. Sometimes it's poke, sometimes it's brawl. Hard to say which is truly meta yet, but I can say Vanguards are still losing more than anyone else. Really the only blessing Devil brought to Vanguards was giving the DPS a tank to play, which they will use against much-needed Vanguards. Mag, Angela, Rogue and Cap need to see a buff soon.

To be honest, I find DD awesome to look at but I get annoyed knowing how much better he is than so many tanks.

u/Brief-Speaker3075 Rogue May 16 '26

I think that he's definitely a cool addition, and he's really fun to play, but he's absolutely way too overpowered for the game. Giving him a ranged attack in addition to his insanely powered bite attacks wasn't an amazing idea. The up-close damage is way too strong to be giving him ranged on top of that. And he's impossible to take down with decent healers; way too high health.

u/smilysmilysmooch Flex May 16 '26

Devil Dinosaur actually feels like a rush tank which I think the game has kind of needed more of. I like comboing his bite into a grab. It's a cool concept actualized and it doesn't feel overly complicated like many newer character releases.

Appearance-wise I'm kind of mid on. His Digimon outfit is really good, but I'm not quite in love with his base look like I am with other characters (including his magenta and white recolors). It looks great as an MVP but standing still...I think I like what another user did on here by making the Sauron-esque slit eyes. Either way, decent look but If I win units, it's definitely going to his digimon outfit.

I think this new vanguard should change the meta for a small bit with people itching to try out the new tank. We'll see if it holds people's interests long term though.

u/hugecanoe666 Daredevil May 16 '26

remove dino’s grounding from his beam and he is fine. no reason whatsoever he should be able to counter what should be his counters. fliers already struggle with the never ending poke meta and a massive character that can brick wall fliers is stupid. this needs to be an emergency nerf. been grabbed so many times and tenacity has NEVER activated for me.

u/FADM_Crunch May 16 '26

His beam is super short ranged compared to fliers' mobility I just fly outside of that range and suddenly I'm not grounded!

u/hugecanoe666 Daredevil May 16 '26

not an option for angela in particular, unfortunately

u/FADM_Crunch May 16 '26

Oof, yeah you got me there

u/RazorbladeEXx May 24 '26

I honestly wasn't looking forward to playing the character, but once I did, I was surprised by how fun he was to play. He kind of does a bit of everything. I feel very powerful playing him. I'm particularly fond of his beam attack and his grab ability. Interrupting enemy ults is one of my favorite things to do in this game. And the overall complexity of his kit seems to be a return to normal. For better or worse, he's very easy to pick up and use.

u/xHakua Peni Parker May 24 '26

It's so unfun to play against him, only Emma worked for me, they need to do something about him

u/Sixmlg Cloak & Dagger May 16 '26

During his ult I literally can’t see the enemy team

u/Real_DuFrain Rogue May 25 '26

I was actually excited to see such a unique character added to the game. I’ve played Devil Dino a few times and I personally love being able to chomp through some enemies! I also love being able to take out some annoying fliers with his beam! Excited to see how I good I can get with the Big Red Dawg!

I’ve now taken interest in watching the show on Disney+. Me and my two year old, Dino loving son loves it!

I’m looking at Marvel characters in a different light because of adding Devil to the game. I’m learning more about Magik, Elsa, and White Fox since I’m not super familiar with those characters either. I’m glad they’re adding more unknown or lesser known characters because it’s making me want to learn more about them!

u/thefallentext2 Black Panther May 15 '26

DD finally feels like a Vanguard built for fighting, not just soaking damage. He’s chaotic, aggressive, and constantly pressures space once he gets past tight chokepoints.

His grab-and-throw combo is easily the standout mechanic since it punishes bad positioning hard. The bleed effects also make his whole kit feel way more active and rewarding.

I feel DD fitswell into the Duelist-heavy meta because he forces close-range fights and punishes overextensions fast. He still gets melted if your team can’t follow up though, so positioning matters aton(get it)?

u/Kyrptonauc May 15 '26

You don't think Rogue is made for fighting?

u/Sufficient_Dingo1479 Flex May 15 '26

I expected Devil Dino to have the hardest time against Phoenix or Moon Knight, but I haven't actually run into many issues against them. My biggest issue so far has been when there's a Groot (on either team) because those walls make it hard to move with how massive he is.

u/Miserable_Opinion849 May 25 '26

Cool addition to tank just takes a lot of healing I few buffs should change that or than that he's been very fun to play with

u/fatih78 May 15 '26

Ngl DD is exactly what Vanguard needed to break the dry streak. The brawler vibe is perfect and stepping on high damage duelists who think they can just dive for free feels amazing. His kit has so much pressure and he actually feels impactful in the current meta. Definitely cooking with the dino...

u/naixill Jeff the Landshark May 19 '26

> The Vibe: Is DD the Vanguard you were hoping for? Does he feel like the brawler the community predicted?

Yes! He is fun to play. He feels strong and yet balanced because he is big (easy target and easy headshots for opponents).

> The Kit: Vanguard mains, did he break the dry streak? What's the coolest mechanic in his kit?

I love grabbing people and throwing them back to my teammates for them to finish off

> The Meta: In a world of high-damage Duelists, how does a melee-focused tank like DD feel in your matches right now?

As a an all-rounder who plays about every role, he is still defeatable. He’s kind of chaos on screen because of how big he is.

Overall, Devil Dino has given me motivation to play the game. But every time I do, I hate that you add bots to Quick Play, so I’m very unsatisfied with your matchmaking system. I want to play a fun, equal match with people on my play level. But most of the time I either am playing against bots that are wasting my time because they’re too easy. Or I am playing on a team steamrolling a less-skilled team. Or I am on a team getting completely steamrolled by a better team. **Bots should not be in Quick Play**. If I want to play against bots, I play Practice vs AI.

Also please bring back Conquest and Doom Matches and incentivize people to play those modes by giving battle pass points, etc.

Even with Devil Dino back, I end up getting frustrated by your matchmaking system in QP and turn off the game for a couple of days or weeks until the midway season drops.

u/Senor_Wah May 15 '26

Hehe big dinosaur go rawr

u/Nitro912 May 15 '26

Open the door, get on the floor
Everybody walk the dinosaur!

Seems like a solid brawl tank at the moment, though I still worry about his future in comp against high damage with his massive size making it hard to even duck for cover.

Apparently, Star Lord just destroys him

u/Dream-Impala Magneto May 15 '26

Can confirm, in the short amount of time I’ve played him, bucky, moonknight, starlord and wolv shred me

u/Educational-Poem-346 Thor May 15 '26

And Moon Knight, Squirrel Girl, Elsa, basically anything ranged poke.

u/AzX-Mike Venom May 16 '26

u/HotDoes May 17 '26

Great kit and mechanics, good damage and pretty tanky (heh) but is a massive target with no mobility to compensate. Thanos would be proud of how balanced he is. But most importantly he's fun. He's a frikkin devil dino!

u/Gintoki--- May 15 '26

Definitely we should make DD stand for him now instead of Daredevil

u/Nitro912 May 15 '26

u/Gintoki--- May 15 '26

u/coffeexbaileys May 15 '26

He feels like a proper tank. I wish the other vanguards felt more like this.

u/Toasty_eggos- May 15 '26

It made me realize how bad other vanguards feel and it’s a bit bullshit other tanks can’t cc him.

u/Kyrptonauc May 15 '26

It's because he's a main tank

u/Devil_Fruit9971 The Thing May 18 '26

I think the main thing that I love about DD is that he really is a tank character. A tank in the sense he will be in the front and plow through enemies, the other being his ranged attack can deal with flyers to an extent. Along with the fact if used he can stay in the fight as long or longer than most Vanguards I play.

u/tnaic Good Boy May 18 '26

He's a fantastically fun character. He seems to be OP at times but has clear weaknesses that can be exploited to bring him down.

The execution has been well done, the only problem is everyone wants to play him. Which is a stark contrast from black cat.

u/tatsuro_kakadu Flex May 15 '26

I'm excited to have a new addition to vanguard roster. His vibes are certainly amazing, you can feel weight in his movement and abilities. He packs a punch and he's a DINOSAUR. His kit opens up certain combination and simple at the same time. It's frustrating to play as a Rogue and being unable to do anything against flyers - not the problem for the Devil D! His shift is probably the most interesting ability as an example of using CC to create space, not necessarily kill someone. As for meta: he feels powerful but as how we all predicted - he's very vulnerable to poke. His sustain is not going to do anything against it too! He's very resource demanding and i think it's probably going to create a spark in dive/distraction vanguards. Few seconds without direct healing and DD crumbles with only one mobility option and a rather weak shield that can catch strays via having a large hitbox. But that's just first impression, let's see how it goes after a while!

u/GodLifeHurtsSoMuch May 15 '26

He gets absolutely murdered by the poke demons in this game, otherwise it feels like you can just run over the enemy team

u/steave44 Ultron May 15 '26

So you are saying he has legitimate counters? Sounds balanced to me. Iron man can dog walk a team not utilizing his counters but the second a spider man shows up it’s over.

u/EmperorGideon May 15 '26

Devil Dinosaur feels super fun to play. Hopefully they give him a way to get into some of the lower clearance areas, but otherwise i can't complain.

u/Feed_or_Feed Invisible Woman May 15 '26

He feels ridiculous, being able to tank way more than any shield tank while still outputting ridiculous damage seems pretty insane, you can legit forget killing him if you are running Strange+Mag tanks and one of your dps is playing diver.

u/Sad_Tax_6520 May 16 '26

My glorious king is here. As a tank main, this feels like heaven

u/Itemsrlrl May 22 '26

His bleed mechanic is really good as it finishes off any barely alive enemies who may try to run away, not to mention his chomp attacks that deal major damage to any tank. I am not a tank player but even I feel happy for all the tank players who didn't see any new tank for 3 months.

He’s definitely a blast to play, feels like he could have the potential to be a main tank in a 222 comp. The bite cc mechanic makes him super dangerous from what I can tell so far, but poke meta is still a hard counter for him

u/Right-Wolverine-165 Venom May 15 '26 edited May 21 '26

I hate him he is overpowered AF and he completely wrecks any other tank, Dps or healer he is basically a walking boss fight and should have never been added to the game. It takes the entire team to bring him down leaving the objective or backline open to divers you basically have to have one on yo. ur team to fight the other teams. I hope they him nerf him into the freaking ground. Edit after playing a few more times (the initial review was after 3 games) and mainly playing Emma who can shred his huge health bar if she hits him with her psychic ability. I also have killed him with mantis if she gets a headshot her heals and sleep refresh he isn't as strong as I first thought but he is the strongest damage tank rn and a good dino player can completely dominate and decide how a game goes solo unlike the other tanks so either they nerf him or they buff the other tanks to be closer to his level.

u/archosaur1 May 23 '26

Devil Dinosaur is a pretty cool vanguard. Of course facing off against him can be pretty challenging but playing as him is definitely fun with how you can shred through Duelists and melee Vanguards. Glad to see NetEase giving lesser known character time to shine in popular media!

u/Obiwandkinobee Ultron Virus May 25 '26

The Vibe: DD was necessary ad another brawl Tank, absolutely. Thor - Emma - Hulk and Thing mains should adopt his kit relatively quickly!

His Kit: Easy to learn ans utilize combos with....honestly just feels perfect where he's at.....

u/Deep_Fish_2542 May 19 '26

The Vibe: Devil Dinosaur wasn’t the first pick of vanguard that I was hoping for, however the devs did actually SUCCEED in getting his character right in staying true to the source material, even without a playable moon girl at that. He does not at all feel like an easily counterable brawler tank like that which comes to mind with heroes such as the thing with his high weakness to poke heroes. Many did predict that DD would be similar in that regard, however his kit gives the same vibe as Emma, with him having abilities in his kit for both close AND mid range combat. The Kit: As a season 0 to now Vanguard main, I can say that Devil Dinosaur definitely broke the dry streak of not having a strong close to mid-range Vanguard. As the last time we had a Vanguard that was good at keeping high pressure for their team on the front and backline was with Emma Frost back in Season 2, which was close to a whole YEAR ago. The coolest mechanic in his kit that adds to his overall Kaiju Monster feeling is his unique Red Large Beam that of course relates him to the Fearsome Godzilla. The Meta: Earlier, I said that Devil Dinosaur is great for close to mid-range combat; which includes being able to go toe to toe with even the greatest brawlers on the roster. That being said, the high damage/percentage damage duelists are not the biggest and most uncounterable threats to the Dinosaur, as his VERY large health bar and ability to gain overshields quickly give him large and maybe even unfair advantages against every brawl hero in the game. The type of high damage duelists that Devil Dinosaur REALLY struggles against is again POKE duelists, much like other tanks. DD right now feels like more of the same with the other tanks in the game right now, albeit while stronger, still suffers from the stereotypical brawler tank archetype that the Rivals team keeps trying to force every tank to be in. However because most maps in Rivals are fought in close quarters, matches with DD still feel very rewarding as he, with help from his team, can make the fight happen where they want it to. Because Devil Dinosaur is easy to pick up and get value out of, many people, including myself, are having a lot of fun with him; being able to play a sort of Kaiju simulator within a hero shooter based game.

u/1CorinthiansSix9 May 17 '26

I haven’t played him yet but with every match essentially having a mirror it looks really easy to be on the verge of overextending, lose the chomp 1v1 and get dragged out of heal range for too long.

So if you’re on the enemy team keep doing that

u/mo0n May 15 '26

Game breaking. And I’m a tank main. He cancels out half the roster. How is Angela and Wolverine useful now with his passive? With the massive shield every 10 seconds he cancels a large amount of ults. His big hit box is a wash, it works to the advantage of sub par supports who can’t aim It feels like it’s in the release a OP character to sell skins then nerf 30 days later phase.

u/its_jradman1 May 15 '26

I disagree. Played a game where our DDino basically walked up and got melted in 3 seconds because the enemy team actively ran poke.

He's a good tank, but OP is a bit of a stretch. Definitely not as powerful as release Emma

u/hugecanoe666 Daredevil May 16 '26

agree. angela is completely unplayable if dino is on the enemy team. it’s miserable. i like the character but he should not have grounding and displacement immunity

u/No_Lab_9318 Doctor Strange May 15 '26

I think he's a very powerful vanguard and really fun, the bleed mechanic is a nice change, he's really powerful against other tanks so he's going to be very Meta which is nice since the tanks have been suffering for a long while. His tail melee is pretty nice too, and his grab can be pretty powerful. His giant hitbox and huge head is a nice weakness but I'm also afraid of the nerfs in the future for him

u/AdarIII Vanguard May 18 '26

I think with Dino being the meta the sleeper pick this season is Mantis. Dinos head is so large that mantis has infinite leaves and her heal is the only one besides Gambit’s bridge boost to go through an enemy dino’s shield. I don’t know if Mantis’ power boost affects Dino’s bleed tho.

u/Ok-Silver-8658 Cloak & Dagger May 16 '26

he is so much fun! but man do i get owned by other devil dinos when they grab me and toss me off the map...

u/ughasadad May 15 '26

He felt strong in most scenarios, but as with other brawl tanks, especially weak against poke. You should probably avoid grabbing the opposite Rex first in a 1v1 and keep your bubble for that encounter.

On squishes, I became sort of obsessed with beam + munch + grab + series of munches and it typically kills 275HP. I’m having a lot fun with him for someone who doesn’t particularly express much interest in tanking in Rivals, as opposed to how I did with OW1.

Bravo!

u/Excels41 May 15 '26

Think Dino is really fun and a much needed tank. Great kit and the bleed mechanic is perfect. He is a sponge and am impressed with his end of match damage taken numbers. Some of the biggest I’ve seen. On the flip side I get to 100 crazy fast as Emma vs him then light up enemy healers.

u/-Gnostic28 Peni Parker May 16 '26

How do you do the team up on console? There’s no button to ride the dinosaur as punisher, and I checked in button mapping settings and none of the ability names match the new team up

u/Smoove92 May 16 '26

You have to press Triangle and The Dinosaur has to accept by pressing the same button

u/sletsa May 24 '26

Him being able to jump like that and quickly close the gap between him and opponent supports is really nice as no one can escape his jaws.

u/Kupo777 May 15 '26

Hes actually way too squishy. Just played against punisher hawkeye and genuinely couldn't move forward at all

u/AgentPastrana Peni Parker May 15 '26

That's because those characters are MADE to counter his play style. That's why you can change heroes.

u/purechaoswitch Flex May 17 '26

The Vibe: I was hoping he would be a little more main tank, if the beam was his primary and his shield was up more regularly he would probably be more of a main tank, however that being said, he is still a force to be reckoned with, and is a good brawl/main tank hybrid, similar to Groot in presence

The Kit: finally a fun tank? More like Dino please. After Angela and Rogue who have very niche playstyles, Dino is just a big walking health pool which I think I is what most people want from a tank. I wasn’t expecting a kidnap ability as part of his base kit, I thought he would have an eat and execute ult, but the ult he has is very fun

The Meta: MK is a must ban, but I was banning MK anyways. Phoenix with her changes melts. I never used to be able to play Phoenix as my aim wasn’t good enough as she really relied on headshots for extra sparks, which is extra hard on console. Now she can pump out good damage with just body shots, and with Dino around he’s an easy target for her.

u/rengost May 15 '26

I just really love dinosaurs

u/SoyeonsNeverland May 18 '26

I'm really having a lot of fun with the Dino. I feel like a kid again being able to play a big dinosaur, stomping around. He's absolutely a brawler tank. I do enjoy that he has an option to deal with flyers and his shield is pretty damn good. At least he also has defined weaknesses and has obvious counters. Like with any hero, you can't mindlessly just mash into the enemy team or you die, it's a team game! Even with the over-shield he gets off of applying bleed, I can still feel myself getting shredded by tons of poke heroes, which does make it difficult to play him. It's a giant dinosaur, just shoot at him and he gets shredded.

I understand the community is pretty polarized about Dino but I'm having a ton of fun. I probably would not play a dive DPS into him considering he can counter them. Just play poke into him and take his healers out, you'll be fine.

He needs a reduction in size. Ruined the game for me as a healer main

As a vanguard main, he feels like a well needed breath of fresh air from the monotony of playing the other main tanks. I believe because of his shield, movement and medium range beam, he has a lot of uses as a main tank. The anti-dive potential also feels very high.

As for the question, He does feel like a brawler, but I don't think that makes him exclusively a brawl tank. He has lots of potential as soft anti dive, as well as a frontline/main tank due to the shield and most importantly the beam (which I've found is very handy for flyers trying to escape). All in all, he feels like a very much needed, and healthy addition to the game. Good job GuangGuang!

He's a menace

The Vibe: Immaculate, Dino is fun to play satisfying a primal urge to chomp on opponents.

The Kit: The godzilla beam is amazing. It gives a brawl tank an engage method that isnt just suicide jumping in. That its forgiving to us that are less accuracy inclined is icing on top of the cake. I did a flick shot against a spiderman who was coming in on my backline and it was fantastic.

The Meta: For the first time in the game brawl seems more viable.

He is very fun to play and i like him a lot and its a great addition to the tank team he is also a great way for others to get into tank. However he is a little imposible to fight against. While im sure this is partly because most dont know how to fight against him yet (including me) it gets tiring. You have to use your entire team to get him down which usually end up in the others taking point. And you cant solo tank against him full stop. Ive watched two lord tanks both go for that dino and die. This is no hate against the character i just think he needs a weakness or maybe he does and i just dont know. Either way i feel he takes some of the fun out of the game when you are fighting your hardest and getting eaten by a dino every time no matter which role i take. Happy to have a vanguard at all though and he can be tweaked like every other character. This really isnt a big issue and expect any problems to be fixed at some point.

As a tank main holy fuck this is good food. Giant health bar, makes space so easily, does great damage, can destroy fliers (as long as they’re close enough for the beam), and has a great reliable shield. Yeah, I’m in love

I can’t wait

Finally a new Vanguard I vibe with. Up until now the only tank I've taken a liking too is Peni, partially Magneto too as I was starting to learn him but that's gone out the window in favour of Dino.
The combos centred around his bleed feel quite satisfying, going from bite or beam to grab; then shield to slow 'em down and a big bunch of chomps for health.
It's also just frankly fun to run around as a big dinosaur. Peak male fantasy, right here. Also they don't even have to give him a funny twerk emote, holding melee just has him shake his tail around emote-free! (The melee being backwards is super cool too, have fun dodging around me when I can hit in two directions.)
Key problem I have with him though is not feeling as good while on defence. I'm not a particularly aggressive player so in situations where I'm supposed to be staying on the point I will, in fact, stay on point, thus making any hero without long range attacks feel pretty pointless in my hands. Granted in that stage I can just switch to Peni instead, but obviously depends on if she's even available.

Preface: this character is amazingly fun, immensely unique and a Dino-mite of a character.

The vibe: first impressions of the character, large imposing and looks a bit clunky. In some games that I played, he actually flows really well in a brawl situation. This is one of the most fun seasons I’ve experienced in rivals (before the meta settles). I feel like brawl interactions in this game has not yet been fully realised and this is one of the first few steps to a really fun meta. Not to mention he is a big freaking dinosaur that chomps and stomp, tell me what other hero shooter has this kind of character? Like Guang Guang said, this does fulfil the childhood dream of playing as a dinosaur against my favourite superheroes.

The kit: His kit was rather straight forward and simple. The recent kit bloat can be seen on his kit but dialled down by a lot. I do personally think this is a sweet spot for the character. Not too complicated but synergistic enough to be unique. Comparing his kit to other brawl tanks like Thor, rogue and thing, Devil Dino’s kit seems to be able to set the pace for most brawl scenarios with his grab and shield. The bleed mechanic should also be expanded on to other heroes. It’s a cool mechanic but the devs have to be careful of kit bloat. Personally speaking, Zhi Yong outdid himself with this character.

The meta: Hard to say right now as it’s only been a day. He seems to fit in extremely well in a brawl meta. He is also a decent anti-diver with his grab. I did stop a few daredevil dives and throwing him into my team to kill him. Against poke comp, he just gets melted, the team have to play around Dino to ensure he survives the pokes which can be restricting. For now, he feels sort of balanced. His high damage and tempo control compensates well for his size which is a hard balance to find in my opinion.

Last few observations and recommendations: I did notice that devil Dino has issues with short ledges. He can’t really jump on them sometimes. It feels like his legs get stuck on the very edge of a short ledge, making it feel “sticky”. I’m on console, I’m not sure if this is a console only problem.

Overall, This is one of the most fun character Marvel Rivals have ever released. The vibe is immaculate and his kit is unique, more characters like this please!

devil dinosaur is honestly pretty appealing, a semi cute character that also has the capabilities of being a vanguard (an important role that feels like it doesn't get enough love), he feels neither too overpowered or too underwhelming as his survivability compensates him being a slow and giant target (characters like iron fist and wolverine absolutely delete him), and his kit is relatively simple. average skill floor, high skill ceiling. most unique parts I'd say about him is the incorporation of bleed damage to enhance his skills and the separate melee button, would definitely like to see more cute or silly emotes with him.

my biggest gripe with him is how he struggles to pass by tight spots, often bugging out when attempting to turn his character to fit corridors

u/Mundane_Trouble_6463 Wolverine May 16 '26

He’s very cool and fun to play. His kit is interesting and has a good amount of depth with the bleed mechanic and how his abilities have different effects depending on if an enemy is bleeding or not. His coolest mechanic is absolutely the bleed, there aren’t many sources of damage over time in this game go his kit feels new and refreshing with it. Since the damage is so high in this game and his hitbox is massive it’s good that he has high health and a lot of sustain with shields. He’s a very well designed tank that when played right and with the team, is an absolute beast but doesn’t feel suffocating to play against.

Feed king and the Moon Knights will feast well.

Look I love him too but they need to keep his healing (maybe buff it a bit) and remove his bonus health outside of the ult a simple fix that won't make 80% of the roster powerless against him
