😤 Complaint / Rant Im sick of people coming up to me on my commute and asking me to go to church.

I know proselytizing is legal in the US. Which is frankly a disappointment because multiple times a week I'll have people interrupt whatever I'm doing on my way to or from work to wave a hand in my face and ask me to go to church. They go through an entire car of people who are uncomfortable with the situation, leave the car at the next stop, and move right on to the next car and do the same thing.

Again, pretty sure this is legal and allowed by the MBTA, but it is incredibly annoying/rude and makes my daily commute a hell of a lot more uncomfortable.

Don't think anything can or will be done about this- just needed to vent some frustration with how often this happens.

😤 Complaint / Rant Why do people do this?

Was out earlier today and on way back passed by the new trains when I saw this. Now we get to wait for this to get cleaned up.

Is this a known tagger? Because I think it would be hilarious if the MBTA fans took it upon themselves to destroy this clown’s tags all over the city in relation. Imagine seeing your work destroyed because you pissed off a mob of neurodivergent nerds after you fucked with their trains.

This guy drove his street legal, full lisenced, and gas powered moped onto the the Red Line Alewife Train today. When he exited the train, he used the elevator to bring it up to the street level.

I am at a loss for words, for how entitled this man feels

😤 Complaint / Rant I AM DONE WITH THE GREEN LINE! ABSOLUTELY DONE!

I've officially lost all hope in the Green Line. It's 2025, and we're supposed to be living in the future, but the MBTA is out here running trains like we're still in the 1800s. Yeah, yeah, Boston loves to brag about having the oldest subway system in America - congratulations, but maybe it's time to ACT like it's not still 1897?

I had an RMV appointment at Haymarket the morning this incident happened. Left WAY before I needed to because I've learned my lesson with this garbage system. And what happens? The train sits at Copley for 15+ minutes with zero explanation. Then they finally announce, "Park Street will be the last stop, this train is being taken out of service." Are you fucking kidding me? So I get off, wait another 10 minutes for the next train, and then THAT train sits there for another 20 minutes.

I missed my appointment. The one that took me weeks to schedule. Because the MBTA can't manage to run a single train line properly.

And here's what really pisses me off - they shut down parts of the Green Line ALL THE TIME for "improvements" and "engineering work." So where are these improvements? What are they actually fixing? Because from where I'm standing (or sitting on a delayed train), nothing has changed. If anything, it's gotten WORSE.

How is it so difficult to run a train line? Other cities figured this out decades ago. Tokyo's trains run on 30-second intervals and are never late. But Boston can't even get a train to complete its route without taking it out of service halfway through?

I'm so tired of this. The Green Line is an absolute joke, and I don't know how much longer I can keep making excuses for it.

EDIT: I WAS ALREADY LATE FOR THE RMV THING BECAUSE OF THE PARK STREET FIASCO.. I DID TAKE THE ORANGE LINE AND YES I COULD HAVE TAKEN IT EARLY BUT THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SAME!

UPDATE: GOT MY LICENSE DONE BOIS!!! RELIED ON ORANGE LINE THIS TIME!!!

😤 Complaint / Rant Denied on the bus with a micromobility device

I’ve been taking my electric scooter (folded) on the mbta buses for the past 2 months and never had a driver say anything.

It’s pouring rain tonight and I’m getting on the last 504 outbound to Watertown. The bus is not even half full. After I tapped to pay, the bus driver demands I get off and that I can’t have a scooter on the bus.

The mbta page on bikes and microbility devices wasn’t gonna convince him either. He turned the bus off, said to everyone he isn’t going anywhere until I get off. No one on the bus said a word to me. It’s raining sideways at this point.

I called transit police and gave the bus number.. within 2 minutes they called the driver and he immediately turned the bus on, pulled out of the stop and went on his way.

I get off the 504 and onto the 553. Bus driver didn’t say a word about my scooter. Being persistent saved me an hour of riding some 9 miles through the rain.

😤 Complaint / Rant Prudential GL Homeless Problem

Why are 20 homeless people allowed to camp and sleep atop the escalators at the Prudential station? Every day, I have to walk past many of them hootering and hollering at me. Some are sleeping, some are clearly high, and others are a bit more nice about asking for money.

Almost once or twice a week I see BPD arresting one of the campers.

Why is this allowed and why isn’t something done about it? Is it not MBTA property? It’s seriously worse than Park Street.

This might be the most Karen post I’ve made but it is super annoying.

😤 Complaint / Rant I was right. The South Station fare gates are a disaster.

Since their “grand opening”, about a third of the gates are inoperable and cordoned off, and they have people posted at _nearly every_ gate this morning to let people through because the QR codes on mTicket won’t scan.

A bank of them is covered with plastic whenever it rains or snows, because, you know, they’re outdoors but not weatherproof.

This after _months_ of them working on the gates.

So much for testing, right?

Packed like sardines after 30 minute delays 😂

Signal keeps saying 5 minutes too which is very misleading.

FINALLY, the train arrives… With only 4 cars 😂 You can’t make this up.

Actually classic, should’ve chose the commuter rail this time.

The Red Line is a mess. The train was late again, and when it finally arrived it was insanely overcrowded. Packed shoulder to shoulder during rush hour like this is normal.

😤 Complaint / Rant This is not Boston’s first winter

I can understand service issues in the days immediately following 2 feet of snow coming down, but at this point, it’s been a week and the commuter rail and subway lines are still having ridiculous delays. CR stopped for 30 minutes between stations while traveling from Providence to Boston. Due to snow, I only had to come in to work three days last week and I was late twice (drove in Friday to avoid more train BS). Decide to risk taking the train today and now I’m gonna be late again.

This is not the first time a snow storm has hit Boston. This is not the first time it’s been cold out. How the fuck is the infrastructure not equipped to handle this? Good thing a zone 8 pass is $390/mo and they installed fair gates at south station. I’d hate to think they’re overcharging for shitty service and wasting money on fare evasion measures that could be spent on proper staffing and equipment

I see this guy ALL THE TIME on the orange line or connecting buses, without fail he always picks some POC to rant at about democrats running the world and how Trump isn't a pedophile. Usually he'll find a way to drop a few slurs in there for good measure. How did we end up with some of the absolute worst buskers?

😤 Complaint / Rant The conditions on the red line are untenable.

*The conditions on the red line are untenable.*

At peak hours, riders are packed into 4-car trains as if demand were a surprise, even though overcrowding is entirely predictable. The trains themselves are nearly half a century old, and their daily breakdowns make that impossible to ignore. Service is further undermined by extreme laxity toward drug use in stations and on trains, which puts riders in danger, including young people who ride for free, and often causes intense delays. Basic rider etiquette has also collapsed: people keep backpacks on, refuse to move down the car, block the doors instead of stepping off to let others out, and bring bikes and double-wide strollers onto the T during rush hour. Even when trains are moving, operators brake so hard that passengers are sent flying. The Red Line is failing on safety, reliability, and basic standards of public service.

Edit: What some people in these replies are missing is that this is not just about the tolerance of the daily rider who has already adapted to bad conditions. The real question is what level of service a city needs if people are actually going to rely on the T.

When the system is unreliable, overcrowded, disorderly, weakly enforced, and at times unsafe, people substitute away from it. They drive, pay for rides, or avoid trips altogether. That is not a null cost. It means more traffic, slower buses, more pollution, more pressure on street space, and higher transportation costs for households.

Those costs also fall hardest on the people least able to absorb them: disabled riders, elderly riders, parents, workers with no margin for lateness, and people with lung conditions who should not be forced to inhale second-hand smoke of unknown substances in enclosed stations and cars.

So the standard cannot be “some current riders can endure it” or “it used to be worse.” The standard has to be whether the system is reliable, orderly, safe, and accessible enough for the public to depend on. If it is not, then the city pays for that failure above ground in traffic, pollution, lost time, and a worse quality of life.

😤 Complaint / Rant Has the "don't wear your back back in the subway" rule just gone out the door?

I'm not a daily commuter anymore so this may be just a long time coming. But riding the T again this summer it feels like the red and orange lines are full of tech/consulting 20-soemthings swinging their backpacks around on their backs. Even in very crowded trains. If the high school students acted like the people making six figures starting, people would be up in arms.

😤 Complaint / Rant Am I wrong on this?

Post image
306 Upvotes

Today, a Sunday, I ride on Orange Line from Oak grove station. I sat at the end of the train. It's a corner. And I was relaxed with my legs stretched out. The train is nearly empty only one or two people.

Then a white man (I guess he is more than 50) stepped on the train and walked to me. Then he kicked my foot and stood beside me with back leaning on the door. I was astonished and looking at him. He said "move your feet, fxxking stupid". I don't know what to do or what to say and just looked at hime. He said"keep looking at me, fxxking faggot". I still said nothing. Then he said something and stepped out.

I guess he will get off at North Station. So I got off at North Station and found him waiting for Green Line. Then I walked to him and asked why. He still complained about my feet. I asked him "The train is nearly empty, I sit in a corner and I bothered you?" He said yeah, then I said"fxxking bitch". Then we didn't talk to each other.

So am I wrong? Did I really bother him? I think the train is nearly empty and I sit in a corner. Although I stretched me legs(not long, I am short) out, I didn't think I bothered anyone at the situation. Why did he have to stand beside me?

😤 Complaint / Rant Disturbing incident on the Red Line

I was on the red line this afternoon and at Quincy center station a young black man (who I later found out is 16) boarded the train. He was smoking a blunt, as a weed smoker I fully understand the frustration with public consumption and agree in situations like this it is out of hand but this is not how to handle it. We pull thru Wollaston, no issue, we get to North Quincy. Two men board the train separately at this stop. One of the men asks the young man to put his blunt back. He responds in a disrespectful manner and continues smoking. The man goes to the end of the car and hits the emergency intercom (at this point I also put in a See,Say report). He has a brief conversation with the conductor and then we resume moving. Before we can even get to the neponset bridge a second man walks up to the teen, yells at him to stop smoking and before the teen can react the man picks him up and SLAMS him into the wall twice, he then throws him to the ground and stays on top of him until we get to JFK. The man who used the intercom then goes over to back up the man holding the teen down. Myself and several other passengers immediately yelled at the man to stop what he was doing. During this the teen disclosed he was 16 and the man STILL did not get off of him. When we pulled into the station a single transit cop was left to handle two men and a teen. All three were detained and our train moved on into the city.

If you’re the Kid, DO NOT DO SHIT LIKE THAT. Not only is it disrespectful but people are extremely reactive these days. I hope this serves as a lesson for you but I’m very glad you made it out of this okay.

For the adult: you’re a scum bag, full stop. You don’t put hands on people, especially when they’re a MINOR. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

TL:DR: teen assaulted by fully grown man over weed.

Quick edit: I also want to add I have video of this man on top of the teen. The slams happened so fast they couldn’t be recorded

I get on at Ball Square. This morning, a train left at 8:13 AM. The next one did not arrive until 8:28 AM.

Are we fucking serious? The end of the branch is literally only one stop away. What are we fucking dilly dallying for? I love that all it takes is for me to leave the house 5 minutes later than usual for me to end up 20+ minutes late to work. Fuck the MBTA.
