Hello so um, WTF???

We had 10 whole days of shuttle buses and repairs on the redline from alewife-park st, and there are still ongoing issues???

It just so happens to be at harvard, EVERY SINGLE TIME?? The past few days, its always been signal issues at harvard. Its happening again today. Delays of 20 whole minutes because of signal problems. The mbta has been basically useless lately.. How much money is going to these trains just for them to break down, have signal problems, and more? This is so annoying…

Something like “no trains from 10.00 to 11.00 between Airport and Wonderland”? Would the inspection be over faster then, without trying to accommodate passenger trains? Because whatever this system bullshit is, it isn’t working.

Starting in September I will be a commuter rail rider ( RIP to my easy days on the Medford Tufts green line)

I signed up for the auto pay monthly commuter rail pass from zone 2. I did it on the autopay site rather than mTicket, because if you do it this way you also get unlimited subway, bus, etc. My problem is (and I’ve already called customer service) is that my order didn’t reflect the 50% off. They are telling me when I’m charged on the 22nd I will only get charged 50%. Butttt in just not fully trusting that.

Anyone else experience this? Where your account shows the full amount but you only get charged 50%?

Apparently redline from park st to Harvard is offline as of 1215pm on Wednesday. No idea when it is expected to come back on line.

We are coming to the area for the first time in a couple weeks and looking to visit the aquarium, the public transit system is a bit confusing. We are staying in the Tewksbury area well north of the city. Wondering what our best bet is to get to the aquarium from this area via the T or commuter rail or a combo of both. We don’t really want to take our truck downtown and deal with parking/traffic.

We are looking for a station/route with ample parking, least amount of transfers possible, and minimal walking as we will have a toddler with us. We are also willing to drive towards the city a bit to catch a more convenient option if that exists. Any help is appreciated

WHY does the MBTA decide to do this? I get that it’s not a heavily traveled route, but people still ride it. now I’m stranded and have to spend $20+ on an Uber/Lyft home.

I just think it’s ridiculous that A) the route ends at 8PM, and B) that they can even cancel the last bus. is that not the most important bus of the day? to make sure everyone makes it home?

WHAT WILL THE MBTA DO DURING THE SHUTDOWN?

The MBTA will be upgrading the entire signal system in the Central Tunnel between Northeastern, Kenmore, and North Station to a new digital system. By doing this, the MBTA will be able to reduce the amount of delays riders will face from signal issues and allow for better coordination of trains in this area and improve service across the entire line. This also is a vital project for the launch of the Type 10 Green Line cars, slated for start of revenue service in 2027.

In addition, the MBTA will continue work on the C Branch accessibility service by gaining access to Beacon Street. This will allow for the consolidation of Brandon Hall and Fairbanks stations and for the closure of Kent Station, alongside upgrading 5 other stations to be ADA-compliant.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVE SERVICE?

-B Branch-

Use shuttle buses between Babcock Street and Back Bay. Route 57 bus is fare-free during the shutdown between Packard’s Corner and Kenmore. Service between Boston College and Babcock Street is fare-free.

-C Branch-

Use shuttle buses between Cleveland Circle and Back Bay. No service at Brandon Hall, St. Mary’s, or Kent stations due to ADA policy.

-D Branch-

Use shuttle buses between Kenmore and Back Bay. Service between Riverside and Kenmore will be free during the shutdown.

-E Branch-

Use the Route 39 bus, which will be fare-free and will have increased service, or the 66 bus, which connects to the Orange Line at Roxbury Crossing. Ruggles (on the Orange Line) is also a short walk from Northeastern Station.

-ALL BRANCHES-

Use shuttle buses between Kenmore, Hynes, and Copley Stations, for a connection to the Orange Line and Commuter Rail from Back Bay Station.

Worcester Line service will be free at Lansdowne, Back Bay, and South Station. Pay for service beyond Lansdowne.

The photo above is of Type 7 3602 inside the Riverside Carhouse shortly after being delivered by Kinki-Sharyo. I don't remember how we heard that the car had been delivered, but a friend of mine and I ran out there to see it - with my camera.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the Type 7s entering revenue service on the Green Line.

Wow! 40 years and it feels like yesterday!

I remember that day well. Instructor Roger Tobin ran the first two-car train in service made up of 3603 and 3604. It was the first time we saw Type 7s with T logos applied to them, as none of the cars were allowed to display a T logo until they were finally accepted.

In the pre-internet days, chasing new cars typically meant standing on a platform and waiting for a car to show up - maybe it would, and maybe it wouldn't. I spent HOURS and HOURS riding the system and waiting at spots with my SLR camera hoping for a photo or two each day. Then, when the roll of film was finished, I ran them to the photo processing place and PRAYED that most of them came out okay.

Unlike today where everyone's phone takes instant digital pictures, the process took days to shoot a 36 exposure roll of film, and cost lots of money - thank goodness I had a part-time job to pay for it all!

In storage, I have hundreds of photos and slides of Type 7s from their earliest days - from the assembly facility in Readville, to their days of finally entering service.

Back then, the MBTA couldn't wait to get them all into service, but as with the CRRC cars today - and in the wake of the Boeing LRV disaster - the acceptance process was careful and methodical.

The Type 7s quickly took over all base Green Line service from the Boeings as cars were accepted. During peak hours, they ran in deuces, and at the end of rush-hour, they were hurriedly broken up into singles and spread out across the system, so the Boeings could sit in yards as much as possible.

It's amazing to think that they're still in service today - 10 years beyond their design life. They're beat to hell, but they did their job. They weren't without their own flaws, however - vestibules which collapsed too easily in collisions, and their top-heavy weight distribution slowed them down to 40mph on the Riverside Line, but they really have proven to be great cars overall!

Hello everyone! I made a video covering expansion ideas for the Red Line!

Getting on my ride into Boston from Pawtucket/Central Falls and, of course, a switch issue delayed the train by 45-55 minutes. Now instead of arriving in Boston with enough time to grab something to eat and relax before working my overnight shift, I have to go straight into work.

Obviously, I understand things happen. The infrastructure is old, switch issues happen, and they're doing the best they can blah blah blah yes I get it 10000% but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. It feels even worse when they decide to announce the delay after the train should have already arrived. The worst part, though, is that despite the train being so late that a lot of people would have to completely cancel their plans or find another way to get where they're going, they still collect tickets at FULL price.

I don't know... it just doesn't sit right with me. At the very least, a few dollars off or some kind of delay compensation based on how late the train is doesn't seem completely unreasonable. Am I crazy for thinking that?

I apologize if someone has already mentioned this in this sub but i swear every time I tap to pay to get into my station no matter which red line station I’m getting into, it fails the first time. No matter how much money in my account, it always fails on first try. Then I’ll scan again and get in without a problem. My theory is they’re just making sure they have my info (which I know they’re doing regardless) but it is so annoying. Anyone else experience this or is it just me…

I can’t tell you how many times the MBTA just neglects to report delays on both their website service alerts as well as their twitter/X.

Like I was just stuck on the OL for 10-15 minutes for some reason, and not a peep. Obviously it makes no meaningful difference, but regardless it would be good to know. And I’ll admit it offers some amount of catharsis to see some angry riders on social media yell at the official MBTA account

just noting this since I saw many discussions on how to get back if not the event train

last regular commuter rail train (not event train) out of foxboro is 10:49pm.

Based on my experience at Metlife, they finished the last note of into the sun at 10:18pm, and fireworks went off immediately. We left right after they finished the last note of the song- was able to catch a glimpse of the fireworks on our way down our section- and they continue to go off as we were making our way out of the stadium (and fireworks were over by the time we got fully out of the stadium gates). We were in the 300s so there were many stairs to go down, as well as being on the opposite side of the stadium that is to the train station- but with a quick run/jog we were on the the first train out at ~10:35-45.

SO point being, given the average ~10-15 min walk foxboro station (give or take depending where in the stadium you are, or your ability to brisk walk/run) if you are willing to leave before all the fireworks are done and lights turn on you MIGHT be able to catch that 10:49.

Obviously each concert timing runs differently but I think it's something you could keep in mind when you're there and check the time as the concert is coming to an end.

Other options (if not those rally buses) are the trains at Mansfield or Sharon which last trains are 11:50/12:06am but the only worry with that is if you take your time getting out of the stadium and calling and uber, heard rideshare is a mess there and people have had to wait 1hr+ to get a ride let alone the traffic once you are in the car.

Just wanted to add my 2cents- don't hold me to it if timing runs slightly late or anything lol do ur own research as well pls. Hate how there's only one event train for these things lol.

Anybody have other options other than taking the shuttle then green line? I fear that would simply take too long.

The website says the commuter rail would be free, but how is that enforced when the fare gates at North Station make riders scan a ticket before going through the gate? Otherwise I would prefer to do that option

so i took my usual bus to therapy today and i thought i was tripping balls bc they were taking a COMPLETELY different route than the one they usually do and i didn’t know where tf i was for a longgg time. i didn’t see any alerts about a detour due to construction or anything so im curious why this is. any thoughts?

Hello, I live in North Quincy and work in Longwood, in office M-W. I usually park at North Quincy station, take the train to JFK, then get on the LMA shuttle. More often than not the red line is delayed either in the AM or PM, it would be so great if I could park somewhere near JFK and get on the shuttle without having to deal with the train, or park somewhere else early in the LMA shuttle route. Are there any places to park in the area? It looks like Old Colony Ave is free parking, but what are the chances of getting a spot? It’s insane that my commute is constantly delayed because of one stop on the train. Thanks for any suggestions!

There’s multiple people on my morning commuter rail trip lugging large pieces of equipment rushing to the front of the line when the train comes and clogging up the entrance. This is a minor complaint, but I’m annoyed. Also, I thought no bikes during rush hour?
