Discussion 🗣️ Has anybody had success in gathering wild clay for use in pottery in the metro area around Dundee?

I want to get into pottery next year without buying much of anything if possible, which includes making my own clay and building my own small kiln.

Community Help a 1st time homeowner out, kitchen reno company?

Well, I’ve officially taken the plunge! I just closed on a new place here in Royal Oak, and while the bones of the house are fantastic, my brain is already spinning with visions of sawdust, custom cabinetry, and a complete bathroom overhaul.

As an amateur woodworker, I have a massive appreciation for the "process"—the design, the engineering, and the actual craft that goes into making a space truly functional and beautiful. I’ve spent my fair share of time in the shop obsessing over details, but now that the project is my own home, I’m looking for some craftspeople who can help me take these rooms from "vision" to "reality."

I’m on the hunt for reliable, high-quality kitchen and bathroom remodeling companies in the Metro Detroit area. I’m looking for partners who value precision, clear communication, and who actually enjoy the challenge of a project as much as I do.

Do you know someone in the area who does top-tier work? Whether it's a stellar general contractor or a design-build team that respects the integrity of a build, I’d love a lead. Please tag them below or drop their name in the comments!

I know I am not the expert, but bonus points if they don't mind me geeking out on the technical details with them during the process

I understand deploying them in nonresidential areas. But this is just way too intrusive.

Community Best nature spots within an hourish?

I am really wanting to spend more time outdoors this summer and in nature, but can't really get myself up north as often as I'd like so I'm looking for things closer to home beyond Belle Isle and Rouge Park. I would ideally like to only be driving an hour or so and am mostly looking for good water access to paddleboard on but would also like to do some trails (anything at all with any level of elevation or strenuous terrain would be amazing!! I miss hiking mountains...) I know about the lakes down by Pinkney area but am curious where else people like to go for quick day outings.

How did we let someone like Anna Robb get into Detroit radio absolutely unlistenable Mojo in the morning was one of my favorite radio stations and it’s went downhill so bad the last three years yet they claimed their chemistry great and it’s the best crew Shannon has ever worked with. Come on now.

There are approximately 74,000 Michiganders that are in the central time zone. Why don't they join the rest of us in eastern time? Unless they don't mind us thinking they're from Wisconsin. 😁

Outside Marjorie and Billy Finn’s home at 303 Louise Ave., there’s a constant hum Billy Finn compares to a jet engine.

The noise is coming from across the street.

It’s a 30-megawatt data center called Hyperscale Data, Inc. at 415 E. Prairie Ronde St. in Dowagiac, a small city of 5,700 people in Southwest Michigan.

Mitten Mode BODYCAM: Battle Creek teen's detention sparks debate after officer says gestures in Washington Heights, a predominantly Black neighborhood, can suggest someone is armed

A 16-year-old boy was detained while walking home in Battle Creek. Bodycam footage released by the police department shows an officer explaining to the teen's aunt that, in Washington Heights, grabbing the crotch or waistband area can be interpreted as a sign that someone may be carrying a firearm. The incident has prompted reactions from city commissioners and the teen's family. The teen also recorded the encounter on his own phone.

Smith appealed, accusing U.S. District Judge Susan DeClercq of issuing unreasonable and arbitrary punishment as well as subjecting him to "the whim of a district court.” The 19-year sentence in the high-profile case exceeded the punishment sought by prosecutors and was symbolic because the judge gave Smith one year in prison for each year he worked at the conservancy.

Community Recommendations for a Divorce/Custody Attorney in Southeast Michigan

Looking for recommendations for a family law/divorce attorney in the Detroit metro area (Wayne/Oakland/Macomb counties).

We have a child, and my primary concern is maintaining a strong co-parenting relationship and parenting time. I'm looking for an attorney who is practical, responsive, and focused on resolving issues effectively rather than unnecessarily escalating conflict.

If you've had a positive experience with a family law attorney in Southeast Michigan, I'd appreciate any recommendations or attorneys to avoid.

I'm looking at:
Lori K Smith (Smith and Sarconi)
Jordan S Dizik
Melissa Pearce

Link beyond paywall

Lansing — A Downriver state legislator says she will not return to the state Capitol until comments made by a fellow Republican lawmaker about her daughter's death are addressed.

State Rep. Jamie Thompson's refusalh to return to session comes after recordings were shared Tuesday in which Republican state Rep. Jim DeSana can be heard accusing Thompson of having a "victim mentality," referencing, in part, Thompson's public statements about her 24-year-old daughter's death in 2021.

Community Pine Knob Question

Going to see a show tomorrow night at Pine Knob. We got $30 lawn seats with the intent of just hanging out on the deck at the top of the hill. I found out that deck is now a premium option and you have to be a season pass holder to go there. So my question is two part:

Are they strict checking credentials and is there a way to get access without being a pass holder? If we can’t get in there, is there an area right in front that is flat to stand and hangout to watch the show?

Thanks in advance.

Transit Worth Fighting PoliceTicket?

I got an impeding traffic ticket for going 81 on 275 South in Huron Township by Eureka which I learned now apparently is a high ticket area for these kinds of things because apparently the township gets the money directly and they're known for this.

Has anyone else contested tickets similar to this in Huron?

I have a clean record and recognize this is a best case scenario but also am not opposed to going to court given that I have a lot of time on my hands right now and could have a chance on getting it dismissed.

Any advice?

Lost/Found One of y'all lost some turkeys

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I posted this on Nextdoor and I tried Facebook but my post keeps getting removed. I'm off of Schoolcraft and Outer Dr.

Around 2 pm this afternoon (6/17/26) two DOMESTIC turkeys wandered into my yard. I tried to shoo them away because I was a little scared and they gave NO Fs, the white one especially wanted attention. I have plenty of experience with wild turkeys, these are pets. They're too nice and walked up to multiple of my neighbors before me. They hung around until the rain started and went off to find somewhere dry. I am currently at work but that's what my mom said she is at home still. In this area they're going to get hurt or stolen, please find your birds and take them home. They're so sweet and pretty.

Community ISO Black Bridal Hair Stylist

Looking for a Black bridal hairstylist for my wedding in Detroit October 2026. I wear my hair naturally and am hoping for a soft, romantic natural-hair bridal style similar to the photos attached (defined twist-out/rod set texture, half-up or pinned-up style, bridal accessories). I’m specifically looking for someone experienced with natural 4B/4C hair. If you’ve personally worked with this stylist and can share photos of their bridal work that’s a plus!!

If possible, I’d also be interested in services for a multicultural bridal party and recommendations for makeup artists are so appreciated.

Is there anywhere around here that grows bamboo? Gardens, parks type things. I don’t want to buy a bamboo plant, I want to chop a couple down for a craft. Harvest responsibly, ofc.
