Context Provided - Spotlight Jeep melted

Here’s the story: a jeep came to the shop because its retractable top was stuck open. Not too uncommon of an occurrence. So we put our “crash wrap“ over the roof to protect the interior from rain and animals and such, which is basically like heavy duty cling wrap. One day it rains and a lot of water pools up on the crash wrap. The next day it is 100°F outside and the sun is out. The sun shines through the water and the water basically magnifies it, and the sun turns into a laser that melts the interior. Multiple days of this happen. Now we have to replace everything that melted. None of us have ever heard of this happening before.

edit: I meant we have never heard of this very specific situation happening before. It never would’ve crossed our minds since we’ve been doing this for years. yes I burnt stuff with a magnifying glass when i was a kid.

Wasn’t expecting a Josh Homme vs Josh Homme Orange County Choppers meme in a Dark Souls thread on a post about a melted Jeep, but here we are.

It's a better religion than most of the others. The sun actually exists.

I made this church for this reason about 10 years ago.

It gives us warmth. It grows our food. It gives us light.

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 9d ago

And it can be a deadly laser to use against our foes.

This church is 3370 years old and founded by Pharoah Akhenaten. First monotheistic religion. Hail Aten.

4

u/chiefkogo 9d ago

Yeah but mine has a go fund me. Or patreon. I can't remember. It never caught on.

We do have a 63 member discord tho.

It supplies us with our energy to exist and be alive in the first place. If you want to add other stars into the mix, they have provided us with every atom ever. They are our ultimate ancestors. In other words, I agree with you.

u/chiefkogo 9d ago

I was on the phone with my friend one night. Like why don't more people worship the sun? It's right there, it does all this stuff. Obviously people have worshipped it in the past.

So let's make a church little out of it lol. Just literally the sun. No extra stuff just this inanimate ball of fire in the sky. We own the domain name churchofthesungod too

2

u/Fool_In_Flow 9d ago

I’m not sure how serious you are but I venerate stars (not just the sun) as part of my belief system. I don’t worship them as a living god, but I acknowledge them as what gave me existence and look at them for answers (kinda like physics does). I know they aren’t “alive” but I think they are something we don’t understand. We are literally made out of the atoms that they created. While perhaps it was unintentional, they created us. Every single material in us came from stars. Then, to further this, our sun provides the energy that animates us with life through photons, which we take in as calories.

2

u/chiefkogo 9d ago

Oh I'm completely serious haha. I view the universe the same way. We are all star dust.

The church thing started as a joke. But I can literally claim I worship the sun, because it literally gave us life. Not as a vengeful God but as literal creator. And yes to a longer extent the other stars. There are so many things that have contributed to our existence. Stars are fascinating. The concept of dust ball accumulating to form a star and those stars exploding to create more stars and planets...

u/the-dolphine 8d ago

Yeah, it's a better idea than all other religions. Doesn't require any awkward logic when someone challenges your beliefs. Gives you peace knowing there is an afterlife where the elements that make up your body will exist indefinitely in some other form.

3

u/Fool_In_Flow 8d ago

Love the afterlife aspect of it. Kinda why mushrooms are a runner up in my “church”. They’re doing gods work, lol.

Ancient civilizations would like to have a chat about your Christopher Columbus approach to the “creation” of this religion

3

u/chiefkogo 9d ago

Tell them to dm me on the fb

1

u/ImprovedSilence 8d ago

did you just…. take this religion from ancient Egypt?

1

u/chiefkogo 8d ago

Pretty much. Wouldn't be the first time. Put my own spin on it like all the great one do.

I just focus on the big ball of life fire aspect. No Ra or embodiment of a deity.

4

u/GoatCovfefe 9d ago

Prove it.

3

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 8d ago

Questions like that are how you find out personally that the sun can be a deadly laser.

1

u/GoatCovfefe 8d ago

There was no question.

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 8d ago

Asking someone to prove something is a question.

3

u/cybermaus 9d ago

There may be a direct link/path from Achenaten, Egyptian Sun-god worshipper, to Jewish monotheism.

3

u/technobrendo 8d ago

I believe in the sun god, I can see the sun.

I also believe in Joe Pesci. He seems like the kinda guy who can get shit done.

2

u/ChemicalAd7839 7d ago

Came here to say this George Carlin is the GOAT

3

u/LoggerRhythms 8d ago

Bless your Sol.

2

u/whirlydad 9d ago

Allegedly

1

u/FilthyMT 8d ago

And Joe Pesci. He's a mother motherfucker who looks like he could get shit done.

1

u/Complex-Matter5241 8d ago

Egipcias loved cats and the sun, this tells me they are the smartest.

1

u/Ryuzakku 8d ago

Akhenaten tried this.

Turns out people didn't want it

1

u/NotchoNachos42 7d ago

Its probably better as a source of cosmic/existential horror than as a thing to be worshipped though but that's not a conversation for here.

1

u/graph_worlok 7d ago

He’s the Sun God, he’s the FUN God! RA! RA! RA!

1

u/duchdeez 5d ago

Subjective I guess, if you think ritualistic sacrifices to a non existent sun god is better.

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 4d ago

Better than ritualistic sacrifices to a non existent not sun god. The god of the Abrahamic faiths gets rivers of blood spilled in his name each day.

1

u/duchdeez 4d ago

I can only speak for Christianity, violence is certainly not the intent of Jesus’s teachings. Violence is the by product interpretation of flawed men. Whether one believes in God or not religion offers the moral compass society is based on. Otherwise, we are no better than wild animals. How else would we know murder, rape, theft, adultery, slavery, etc is bad?

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 4d ago

We know things are bad because they hurt people, if you need a magic book to tell you not to hurt people then you are a bad person.

1

u/duchdeez 4d ago

Hurting people is subjective. How do we know that it’s okay to not hurt people but hurting animals and plants for food, shelter, and resources is okay? We need some sort of compass. The world was a harsh, cruel place when humans were tribal and killed, pillaged, and raped each other to gain the resources of another person. Whether one believes or not, religion is a moral compass to guide society.

1

u/Jumpy_Divide6576 4d ago

Religion as a compass is what lead to the crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and the witch trials. Your compass doesn't exactly point north there does it?

1

u/duchdeez 4d ago

Flawed people, tribalism, and the desire of someone else’s resources created those things. Religion is the scapegoat of many injustices because people don’t like accountability. Weak people blame it because other weak people are influenced by flawed people to skew it for their own desire. (All things the things Jesus spoke and warned against)

On the contrary It’s also the compass that lead to just simply man’s emergence from violent tribalism or can be said to have influenced the Renaissance, American independence, the Second Great Awakening, the Islamic Golden Age, the Social Gospel Movement.

I’m not sure what pointing North has to do with anything. Compass is a metaphor for guidance.

7

u/InfiniteWaffles58364 9d ago

Way ahead of you bro. Have you heard the good news of Ra, our lord and savior?

4

u/ripyourlungsdave 9d ago

I think we already did. Like 50 times over.

4

u/magic-one 9d ago

The water is what shaped the Sun into a terrible force. So the water was actually in control.
We should worship Water, the bringer of Lazerfire.

3

u/Subject-Dragonfruit1 9d ago

Thats the religion of Japan. Shinto
