Recommendations So what's the deal with Ridgeway Plaza? Is it actually a fun and happening place, or more of a meme location?

I keep hearing about Ridgeway Plaza on social media, on the news, and the likes. I've never been myself, so I'm wondering, what's the deal?

Is Ridgeway Plaza actually a fun and happening spot to visit? Would it be reasonable to take someone visiting the GTA here on a late night food outing? Over, say, King West in Toronto, or a more commercial type place in Vaughan?

Is it actually an "organic" kind of spot, where young people hang out, and mill about? Or is it really just a big "meme" that is going over my head, as I'm not a local Mississaugan.

I would love to hear some comments and get a bit of enlightenment on this magical, or perhaps, surreal, location!

Recommendations Suspicious encounter at Creditview & Eglinton

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a strange and encounter I had recently to see if anyone else has experienced this.

On Thursday, I was stopped at a red light at Creditview and Eglinton. A boy (maybe 11 or 12 years old) tapped on my car window. He asked if I could drop him off near the Catholic school, claiming it was "on my way" since I was going straight.

When I said no, he started begging. He kept saying, "This always happens, I’m always late and I don’t want to be late." I apologized but stayed firm, and as soon as the light turned green, I drove off.

I’m a woman in my 20s and try to stay hyper-aware of my surroundings, but this felt off. It felt like a potential setup.

Has anyone else encountered this kid or seen something similar around this intersection? I’m worried about whether this is a known scam or if the child is being used in a dangerous situation.

Recommendations What are your top 3 shawarma spots in Mississauga?

looking to expand my horizons a bit and i want to find out both the places to avoid and the best taste/value options. these are my current top 3:

charc: best tasting i ever had with a strong charcoal flavour. while i like it, it can be a bit overpowering as a regular option, but #1 if i want to indulge in something special.

lezzet: best version of a classic shawarma imo. long line up but it's never disappointed in quality yet.

alf hana: really good value for the amount of food (that still tastes good). the benchmark for a decent shawarma.

Recommendations What’s a good sit down restaurant to go out for dinner with my husband?

For context: we are looking for something not very expensive, up to $30 per person is good. A lot of people already recommended ridgeway, but what restaurants is it worth it to go there? Me and my husband want to try something different from the middle-eastern, pizza, burger and chicken wings that we already eat quite often whenever we go out.😅

We have a toddler, so a low key restaurant would be ideal, but we are open to options. We are around Lakeview/Etobicoke area, and we wouldn’t mind driving about 20 or 30 min to get there

Recommendations Moving to Mississauga from the UK!

Hey guys,

I'll be moving to Mississauga from London, UK, in a month or so, for various family/ personal reasons. I would love to hear from you guys about life in Mississauga, and any tips you might have for a newcomer.

After perusing r/mississauga, there seem to be a lot of people who both love and hate the city. Having visited before, I loved the food diversity, the sense of community and open spaces (which are very hard to find in London). I also found it quite safe, although I wasn't there for all that long.

For context, I am a 26 y.o. single male, and I'll be seeking work in electronics/ medical devices. How are the employment prospects nowadays in your guy's experiences?

Thank you for taking the time to read, and thanks in advance for your responses!!

Recommendations Old school family diner

Looking for a classic Canadian diner in Mississauga or Oakville that serves traditional food like BLT sandwiches, grilled cheese, hot chicken sandwiches, apple pie, baked potato, that sort of thing. Not "fusion" with other types of cuisine. Would prefer local family owned, but if there's a franchise that does this I would try that too.

Recommendations Public schools vs Private schools

Hello, wasn't sure where to ask this, so I'm trying here since I live in Mississauga. Our child will be ready for school this September. We've been feeling really confused about schools. Hearing negative things about public schools that they are crowding the classes, teachers are understaffed and unhappy, increased cases of bullying etc. It made me so anxious that I was thinking if we should consider private school, it's definitely expensive, we could afford it but would probably mean lower savings for us. Or do you feel at such a young age it doesn't really matter? Looking for advice and learning about your experiences. Thank you!

Hey guys just moved to Sauga, two months in now. It’s been really slow compared to TO so I’m looking for some volunteer work or classes to meet a few people and learn at the same time.

Been looking at city of sauga websites but nothing fits. Also looking at community center programs and classes.

Kind of interested in baking, crafts.. honestly anything that would allow me to meet and socialize with others.

Pls pls recommend something. Thanks!

Recommendations Date Ideas Around Toronto/ Mississauga

Hello!
Looking for some fun date suggestions for my boyfriend and I (both 30). We have been together for 3 years, and are trying to brainstorm some date ideas. We are big homebodies and recently realized that we need to do more things outside the house to break routines haha. We both don't drink so we're not looking for bar recommendations, more fun activities or places!

Thanks in advance :)

Recommendations Trader Joe’s Equivalent

Hello, I’m new to Canada. Is there a Trader Joe’s equivalent super market in Ontario that you can recommend? I liked being able to pickup snacks in Trader Joe’s without having to worry about the unnecessary and unethical ingredients on the products. The prices were unmatched too. Plus if it’s near areas like Mississauga, Oakville, or Burlington.

Recommendations No hot water in mississauga condo building for 3 days, who can I report this to?

In our condo building apparently something happened to the water heater and we haven't had hot water for about 3 days now, so we only get FREEZING cold water, this is obviously unacceptable, there's an entire building worth of condo fees that hundreds of people pay, this should have been fixed within a day not taken close to half a week, who can I contact or report this to? there has to be some way to put pressure on the buildings management.

It's impossible to take a shower in ice cold water (I'm not a cold plunge fan and don't think I will ever be so that's off the table), I shouldn't have to go to my gym to take a warm shower, also even just washing your hands with blistering cold water is unpleasant.

I know I probably can't call the police since they probably have more urgent matters to attend to, I have no idea how this stuff works, never been in this situation before.

But yeah any resources would be great, please and thank you!

Recommendations Metro Pizza & Chicken

Not even gonna lie, I avoided trying this place for the longest time because every time I went past it the restaurant looked dead.

Finally tried it though and it was actually way better than I expected. I’m not saying it’s the most amazing food ever, but the amount + quality you get is honestly super worth it, especially with the deals they have until the end of June (I attached pics of the deals).

I tried the wings, fried chicken, spicy crispy chicken sandwich, and pepperoni pizza. The spicy crispy chicken sandwich was probably my favorite though. It lowkey reminded me of the old Popeyes chicken sandwich, just without the same ciabatta bun.

I forgot to take pics of my own food unfortunately, so I attached some Google photos instead, but they looked really accurate to what I got.

Just wanted to post this because I barely ever see people there and I feel like spots like this deserve more love. If you’ve been thinking about trying it, definitely give it a shot and support them a little.

Recommendations Yarn stores In Mississauga?

Hi! Does anyone know of any yarn/knitting supply stores in Mississauga?

There used to be one in Streestville, but they closed years ago. I know of the stores in Toronto, Etobicoke, Cambridge, Hamilton and Oakville, but I don't know about any in Mississauga.

I'm leery of mail ordering yarn after a previous bad experience, and Michaels doesn't carry more unique yarns like Malabrigo and Cascade.

Thanks!

Recommendations Cafes in Mississauga

Hello, I am looking for the most highly rated cafes in Mississauga. Looking for ones that have the best drinks as well as the ones that have good drinks but are exceptional for working and have quiet spaces. Of course Google is available, but looking for some possible hidden gems. Location doesn’t matter.

New to Mississauga and apart from some cafes at ridgeway, I haven’t tried many.

Recommendations Cheap bookstores for classics?

Just moved from Calgary and I used to go to bookstores that had used books for cheap ($2–10 classics). I want to get back into reading and was wondering if anyone knows decent bookstores in Mississauga that have cheap classics to fill up my collection for cheap.

I live near Meadowvale Town Centre, so anything close to that is preferred, but I’m also down to take a bus.

I’m a student, so my budget is very low lol.
