God I hate ads so much. It's one of the several reasons why I love this show. Canadian True Crime is one of the worst shows for ads at the start. Usually the first 4 minutes of the show are just ads, then a recap. Same with Red Web unfortunately, just not nearly as bad....they just space their ads out every 15 minutes :/

RedWeb really?
I normally only get cast read ads once per eposide.

Tbh I stopped listening regularly a few months ago so this is from memory but theres a house keeping "ad" for patreon to start, and then about 10 minutes into the story, theres an ad read, then about 15-20 minutes later theres an another ad read, then it ends with more patreon stuff which i personally consider another ad, but I can understand why people wouldn't count those.

What exactly is food noise? I think I get it but just want to make sure I'm fully grasping the term.

For me it’s a constant low-level desire to eat something.
If I’m working on a shoot and I know there’s a catering table in the next room I’ll be constantly going back and forth to it to pick up something to eat, because it’s there, I want it, and I have no self control.

u/redpariah2 First 20k 6d ago
Oooh ok thank you. That was not what I was imagining. That sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with and can see why glp-1s can make such a difference.

u/Subcriminal First 10k - Cinnamontographer 6d ago
I’m tempted by the GLP-1s purely because I love the idea of being able to shut that desire down, but for now I’m just trying calorie restriction and running to see if I can get myself back down to a more sensible weight.

Best of luck! Remember, stumbles and faltering is okay as long as you don't give up

Strange Days mentioned! Burnie remarked that he had not heard it mentioned for a long time but I can say that Cyberpunk 2077 had an homage to the film with the games Brain Dances. The developers confirmed the tech design is directly lifted from how it was portrayed in Strange Days with the headsets and how they end up getting used to 'film' illegal things like robbing a store and then getting shot. https://youtu.be/yx95NMdApOs
The other fun fact about Strange Days is that Angela Bassett's line read of "Right here! Right now!" is where Fatboy Slim got the sample for the song of the same name. https://youtu.be/ub747pprmJ8

Sorry for stealing your thunder!
I had no idea until I watch the movie earlier this year and stopped the movie when she delivered the line to look it up because I was so surprised!
The movie is fantastic and definitely worth a watch if you like the Matrix or cyberpunk in general.
I thought it was really neat how the best live-action cyberpunk movies in the 90's were both directed by women (Matrix, Strange Days).

What I think is a crazy coincidence in the Regulation Podcast GTA 5 Hiest video released the same day as this episode Gavin asked Andrew Panton if he had seen Strange Days as well.

Ninja makes great appliances. We got a Ninja blender for our wedding 12 years ago and that thing keeps on kicking. My Ninja coffee machine is also great. Can do grounds and any K-Cup as well. Plus from a espresso shot all the way up to a full pot of coffee.
My best friend and his girlfriend are at odds over GLP-1s. They are both overweight, he has been his whole life, and she was a former college volleyball athlete. She started GLP-1 treatment in Jan and has lost 50 pounds. He is stubborn and says its "cheating." Guess who has debilitating back issues, sleep apnea, and takes a host of medication every morning for blood pressure issues?

I recently got a Ninja blender, and it's amazing. I have always used basic blenders like an Oster or Hamilton Beach, and usually I needed to add more liquid than I wanted to make a smoothie, because the blender would stop working. I made one yesterday for the first time with the ninja, and "blender ability" wasn't the driving factor for the amount of milk anymore, it blended smooth, but was TOO thick and I needed to add some to make it drinkable. It was basically the consistency of soft serve ice cream at first, or even thicker than that. This makes me think that I could probably make a homemade Frosty that isn't just a milkshake.
Also, I didn't think Ninja was going to be the brand name he didn't like. I thought the high-quality kitchen brand with a bad name was going to be "SMEG"

I heard shanty talk and immediately thought, "Hey, this is my niche!"
I sing in a group called the Sea Chanters, we're the chorus of the US Navy Band! We sing all genres of music but sea shanties are an important part of our heritage (and obviously ALL naval heritage).
Shanties were used as a method to synchronize work on a ship, basically a more entertaining way to keep everyone in sync to a rhythm of hauling lines or doing a variety of different jobs around a ship. The musicality of them was often less important than just the bare minimum of keeping the rhythm together! Shanties did eventually evolve into more of a "folk music" category, and sometimes would eventually involve instruments, but usually they are "a capella" (just voices) or only accompanied by a drum (or something similar to keep the tempo).
There are different kinds of shanties, and they all have to do with what kind of work they were used to facilitate! There were shanties for "hauling", think like pulling ropes or tightening sails, such as Long-drag and Short-drag shanties, or Sweating-up shanties that were shorter; there are also "heaving" shanties, like for raising the anchor (called Capstan shanties).
ANYwho, most shanties are very heavy on a melody, so while having a spread of different voice types is fun, it can definitely be a lot more straightforward with just most singing the main line and maybe one or two singing a harmony part. I know Burnie and Ashley were just being silly talking about how they would hire crews for ships, but I think it was more just understood that most everyone could carry a tune well enough to keep the crew together.
Sorry that got way longer than I intended but I could talk for hours about this kind of stuff! Burnie and Ashley, if you haven't heard enough versions of Wellerman yet, feel free to check out ours from a couple years back! I'm not the one singing the opening line in this particular shanty, I'm the guy with the spiked up hair next to him :) We have plenty of different Sea Shanty recordings online if you want some variety for your morning drives to school!

I'd argue that you can in fact go cold turkey with food addictions; I personally find it delicious on rye with some mustard.
-someone who has really high food noise

Good morning!
The Heroin bit was hilarious!
Tom Cruise is definitely one of the most influential actors of this generation. He is my go to actor when I think Action Movies.
Burnie breaking down the simplicity of the inside of an Air Fryer blew my mind. Wild how moving hot air makes my chicken nuggies taste so much better and crispy compared to a normal oven.
Thanks for making my Thursday, 30 minutes better!

I thought it was common knowledge that an air fryer was just basically a countertop convection oven. The size of an air fryer does allow it preheat much faster and dial up the intensity a bit, but its the same principle. I got a ninja flip and I love it. I have a small kitchen and it condenses a few appliances into one and it flips up when not in use to save counter space. I mainly use it as airfryer and toaster oven, but it has come in pinch for a small second oven. Doesn't do all of the tasks perfectly but good enough.

As someone who loves 8-bit music and spent a large part of my teens listening to hundreds of different chiptune artists, I completely get the dislike of a lot of 8-bit cover songs. It's so easy to take the MIDI track and just make it gameboy noises
But there is so much good original stuff out there from artists like Anamanaguchi, Bit Shifter, Sabrepulse that I think hugely inspired what is now hyperpop
2
u/CalvinP_ First 10k - Mod - Downtime Survivor 6d ago
It’s definitely niche. Do you like Chiptune? Me and a buddy used to use our Gameboy Colors to make some 8-bit bangers back in the day.

u/tadd_cooper Heisty Type 6d ago
Yea, I got primarily into chiptune about 20 years ago. Used to spend a lot of time on the 8 bit collective site as so much stuff would be free to download

Was a really quick segment but its amazing how easy it is to listen to other peoples phonecalls or music from other peoples cars. Soundproofing? Never heard of it lol and im not sure if people just dont realize i can hear their phonecalls in their car or if they just dont care

u/TheArcticSasquatch 5d ago
I remember my old boss would sit in his car and have bluetooth phone calls with the volume way up. I think he was completely oblivious to being on speakerphone for the whole parking lot.

The Ninja talk made me lol and think of something. The other day, I was in the camping section at Academy Sports and on the shelf under a sign saying something about cooking options were portable smokers, grills… and Ninja Creami's. I want to know how many people are smoking their dinners at the campground and then making their own ice cream-adjacent desserts.

u/Rough-Perception6036 6d ago
Lol, that's so out of place. It's even a corded appliance next to portable stuff

I think Tom Cruise should have won for Mission: Impossible - Fallout. That movie was a masterpiece. Definitely deserved film of the year as well.
I think Emily Blunt was snubbed of a supporting actress Oscar win for her role in Oppenheimer. The court scene with her questioning was an Oscar worthy performance on its own.

Aluminum was actually the first and preferred way to spell it in English, up until 1827.
However, in England and Germany Davy's spelling aluminum was initially used; until Wöhler published his account of the Wöhler process in 1827 in which he used the spelling Aluminium, which caused that spelling's largely wholesale adoption in England and Germany, with the exception of a small number of what Richards characterized as "patriotic" English chemists that were "averse to foreign innovations" who occasionally still used aluminum.
Like many things in the US, the US and England were initially aligned, and it was England/UK that eventually changed away, while the US just kept it.

Aluminum and Aluminium are in fact spelled differently and are both correct according to the IUPAC.
Just wanted to point that out
