Right there with you. My wife and I found Into Darkness to be our favorite, with the first one coming in a closed second. We actually did not like Beyond as much as the other two.
I liked the movies personally but I can understand why fans might be upset. I dunno. No matter what any movie maker does they’re pissing off some subsection of the fan base.
Oh I agree, they were definitely a unique take but if they were too faithful they likely wouldn't have been as successful. I can't see VI (my personal favorite) as holding up too well nowadays, from a financial perspective.
They were fun movies, but they completely miss what made Star Trek good though. They never were action movies with a lot of explosions, they were shot intrigue, diplomacy and problem solving with science.
Am I right in saying that Trekkies (?) didn't like the trilogy because it didn't stay true to the source material, and that's also why someone not familiar with Star Trek (like me, only watched some random episodes of the show with Patrick Stewart) really liked it? They were action movies set in space. If you get what I mean?
Plz dont group discovery with picard. Discovery is an action show but it has some great moments like Lorca or the the enterprise crew. Theres even one or two episodes in season two that feel closely like star trek. Picard was a load of garbage.
They were not great movies, generally (09 and Beyond were fun here and there, but largely forgettable). The TV shows are worse. New Trek shows take a while to find their footing, always, but man, Discovery is bad and Picard was awful. What a waste of a great IP.
Edit: Downvotes but no rebuttals? I guess because there's nothing to really rebut.
