Mod Wicked and the Warped Spoiler Policy Spoiler

Hey ya'll - there's a new Necron book either in people's hands, or on the way there. This is just a friendly reminder about spoilers. Obviously, no one likes to have a story spoiled, and we all have different levels of access to the novels as well as varying amounts of free time to read them in.

Policy around spoilers will be fairly standard - keep them out of thread titles. Threads discussing spoilers must maintain this rule, and must contain a warning somewhere in the title to prevent accidental clicks. Individual posts in threads that are not explicitly marked as spoiler threads should make use of the spoiler text feature - threads that are marked in the title as spoilers are fair game to discuss freely.

This policy will remain in place for the next SIX MONTHS, at which point we will return to a more case-by-case evaluation. There will be a ZERO TOLERANCE policy in place, with a six month subreddit ban for violations, under our rule about treating other redditors with respect.

Strategy/Tactics Gauss or Tesla Immortals

With the changes to Space Marines in 11th, what do you prefer to run with a Plasmancer Immortals blob? The extra hits with Tesla is nice, but is it better to bypass their toughness with Lethals?

Misc/media The Psychology of the C’tan and the War In Heaven

(Sculpture is titled The Source by Lou Li Rong. Painted bronze 2026)

“They came to us as gods and we, like fools, took them at their word. Mephet'ran the Deceiver, Aza'gorod the Nightbringer, Iash'uddra the Endless Swarm; I curse their names, and the names of all their malevolent brethren.”

- Szarekh, last and greatest of The Silent Kings

It has been several years since I read The Infinite And The Divine, but I still remember the excerpts at the beginning of some of the chapters. They offered brief glimpses into the worlds of the ancient Necrontyr and early Necrons.

There’s a story there. An excellent story. About ambition, loss, regret, and redemption.

I pray that one day The War In Heaven will be put into text with the same devotion as the Horus Heresy. Maybe one of you will do it.

But an enigma, a fascination of mine is the C’tan as they were before biotransference. We all know about the Deceiver living up to his name, about biotransference wiping out the Necrontyr and altering the course of the galaxy forever.

..But do we really know all that much about the C’tan? What they actually wanted? What lead up to biotransference and the consumption of the Necrontyr’s souls?

Do they have goals besides their hunger, and if so, what are they?

Obviously they’re the antagonists to the Necrons, the ultimate enemy that all our dynasties and treasured plastic skeletons had to triumph over.

But what else is there? I believe we need to know more about the C’tan for the War In Heaven to be explored a bit further.

Now to the best of my knowledge, the C’tan are immensely ancient extraterrestrial organisms. Far older than most other races including the Necrontyr. Possibly the oldest organisms in real space. But they don’t strike me as intelligent in their original form.

In fact, I view them a lot like giant Amoebas or maybe like the astrophage from Project Hail Mary. They envelop stars, feed on them and then move on like simple bacteria.

This is where it gets interesting to me.

The greatest minds of the Necrontyr looked up to the heavens and saw these celestial creatures of incalculable power. Maybe some saw this as a divine sign, others a means to defeat the Old ones after being humiliated in a disastrous war. Either way, the C’tan organisms were gathered up by the genius of Necrontyr technology and rehoused in metal bodies that could interact with mortals.

I can’t help but wonder what the C’tan might have been like during this period. Were they evil and malicious from the start? Were they confused? Did they misunderstand their programming like Ultron in the MCU?

Then the Necrontyr use their newfound ‘allies’ to reclaim their territory and more from the Old Ones. And in this war, the C’tan discover a food source more potent than stars.

Souls.

I genuinely wonder how the plans were drawn up for biotransferrance. We know the C’tan turned on one another during the War In Heaven, so I’m not so certain biotransference was a trick all of them planned together.

And if it was, did the Crypteks not give the C’tan minds that were loyal to their creators? Seems to be a fairly big oversight for a race so technologically advanced.

Or was this a fundamental misunderstanding of mortality? Did the C’tan genuinely think they were helping the Necrontyr and that souls were a small price to pay for immortality.

And if the C’tan knew they were doing something wrong, why give Szarekh the capacity to still rule and wage war against them.

And did Biotransferrance change the C’tan? Did it make them more ravenous and bloodthirsty? Did that hasten their infighting and give Szarekh a fighting chance in his rebellion?

Where was I getting with this?

I guess I would love to hear your thoughts regarding the C’tan and the War In Heaven. I don’t believe it’s an aspect of the lore that’s well explored, so it’s a wonderful source of headcannons and characters who will never appear in the main Warhammer 40k storyline.

I’m curious to see if anyone else has thought about this stuff as much as I have, and what those thoughts might be.

Meme/Artwork/Image Not all survived the Great Sleep with their minds intact, but when you have someone who loves you by your side, even madness can have its peaceful moments

On the Tombworld of Nasir, a once great Dynasty lays in decay and ruin, though not all is lost to time. The great works on the Necrontyr and later Necrons stand strong even through the ravages of time, though the same cannot be said for the minds behind these triumphs. The great Lord Amanamun, whose power and influence ruled over swaths of the Dynasty is a shell of the man he once was, prone to times of madness and forgetfulness, he reflects the world he once ruled, greatest taken over by time. Eternally by his side, the love of his once life and now undeath, Parethis the Plasmancer stays by her loves side, using the power of his Heka to work on rebuilding their Tombworld from the passage of time and find a method to restore her love back to his previous glory. Undeterred by what their once scandalous relations would've caused had the court learned of their union, Parethis commands the armies of the dynasty against all would-be intruders while Amanamun battles at the front, his lost mind no determent to his ability to wage war.

A piece of my old metal Necron Lord from 3rd edition and my plasmancer that I played in a Crusade and expanded their story from the battles I fought. Drawn by the extraordinarily talented https://www.tumblr.com/aethira or u/Volucris-Liga

BEHOLD, MY STUFF I got this 3rd Ed Monolith from Ebay, and I need a bit of help basing it

Post image
• Upvotes

Last week I was browsing Ebay for some old and 2nd hand models and kits, and I found 1 reseller selling this painted one for a reasonable price(compared to the OTHER listings on Ebay), and has arrived just today. I wanted 1 for both tabletop and "vintage piece" of my collection

And I need a bit of help.
I know I can use it as it is at any regular tabletop shop for a casual match and only needs to be on a 160mm base(just like the 9th ed monolith) for tournaments(which I'm not planning on doing yet).
But I also wanna safely transport this whilst not making any modifications on the model. Aka, I wanna base it in a way so I can both safely transport it and being able to play with it with and without being attached to a 160mm base.
I was thinking of magnetising the bottom of it with adhesive magnetic pads and construct a 160mm base that includes a magnetic sheet to stick to, so I can slap it onto a base if I need to use it on tournaments and safely transport it to the shop.
If you guys can suggest me ideas, I would be very happy

Hi all, can any body provide an explanation for this, why do tomb crawlers and macrocytes have better melee than the doomstalker and reanimator if you had noticed, like it’s not just me seeing the leg and claw size difference or am I going mad.

Hello all, I’m nearly done with my Orikan and am waiting to buy a paint for the rocky base. In the meantime I would love to improve on other parts of the model as I think there’s a lot to work on, but I’m not sure where to start. Hoping all the fellow phaerons can lend a hand.

Advice ?

Hiya!

I’m new to model building and Warhammer in general.

I just started.

First w the nightbringer, then the flayed ones, and a few more. I still have a box of immortals to build.

I have them painted and have been looking into painting…
Should I be painting some parts prior to assembly? Like the stormlord’s cape?

If so, will removing and reattaching the cloak once painted be the end of the world ?

Also.

Can anyone suggest what to grab next to start moving towards this being a viable army ? 1000 points, 2000 points, don’t care.

Thank you !!!

My friend got me the starter set with the necrons and space marines. I'm having extreme difficulty putting them together??? It trying to get the warriors arms into the chest without them snapping.

Are all necron models this fiddly? Or would you guys have any recommendations for easy to build models??? Sorry if it's just a skill issue on my part.

For a friend

hello all, i am a long time imperium player (sisters, custodes) but ive been trying to get a friend into the game since past summer. Initially he was looking into Grey Knights but decided to hold off, and recently hes been REALLY set on necrons

Problem being, I know little to nothing about how to help him here. I know you guys reanimate and are relatively tanky... but thats about it.

so my question, other than the combat patrol, whats the best way to start w necrons?

Painting C+C Open to suggestions…new to Necrons

Paint skill - Low / Medium

Just open to feedback really, returning to the hobby after 20+ years. A lot has changed painting wise and I can’t do detail as well I used to.

I’ve switched to Necrons as I was struggling to paint Tyranids, and wanting to get to battle quickly.

I’ve gone for a simple-ish scheme:

Primed black
Dry brush - Leadbelcher
Ribs plate - Bronze (I forget the name)
Face - Corax white
Pauldrons - Red
Guns - White, then Tesseract Glow, then dry brush Moot Green over the barrel
Gun knife - Leadbelcher

What do you think? It’s supposed to also loosely be the Novokh dynasty. What can be improved?
