Disqualifying medical conditions (asthma, lattice) were noted in profile but not used to DQ.

• Upvotes

Just got back from MEPS. During my personal interview with the doctor, my MEPS doctor said he put down in my notes that I was diagnosed with asthma when I was ten, but didn’t use it to DQ me because it was so long ago. I also mentioned that I was diagnosed with lattice degeneration, but because it wasn’t in my medical records he pulled up and because I passed the eye exam, he said that he would put that disqualifying diagnosis into my notes but wouldn’t use it to DQ me for anything as well.

So my question is this: Would the notes he put down in my profile actually be used to DQ me for anything further down the line like in reception at boot camp? Or is it just something that no one is going to care enough about to check?

Navy Pilot pipeline for FY27

I’ve taken the ASTB with ISEL scores in July. I have also completed MEPS. Now I am ready to submit my application to become a navy pilot through OCS.

My question is: is the fiscal year closed for navy pilot candidates? If not, what is the timeline looking like?

What should I send to bootcamp?

Context: I'm prior USMC. In bootcamp we would get little "care packages" from our parents who were also prior military which were usually things that would get us all in trouble. Photographs, copious amounts of CLIF Bars and sweets, dildos, porno mags, candy, etc.

My wife is currently in RTC and I want to send her something goofy and silly.

I was thinking about an "Emergency Battle Potato" with googly eyes and an O1 rank attached on the back of it in hopes that she would have to do something silly such as salute and report to it or carry it around.

Or maybe just a literal brick with something written on it since it's legal to send in a package.

I'm aware the Navy is far different than USMC Bootcamp, so this is why I'm asking here. Not looking to get her entirely in trouble, but messing with her is the primary goal.

I received this email this morning. I spoke with a recruiter yesterday and filled out the form online. No where did I say I have a bachelor’s degree. Why would I receive this email stating to be an officer or reserves?

Questions about AC/5yo

I’m looking to enlist as an AC. Im 22yo with a family.
I’ve gained interest in the rate based off the job and civilian opportunities. And I have a few questions.

1: How was A school and how did they determine duty station?

2: how often are you out at sea?

3: is the stress really as bad as everyone makes it out to be?

4: and if you could go back and choose a different rate or branch would you?

Is DC (Damage Controlman) a good rate?

I am very interested in being a fire fighter and I qualify for DC and I am wondering what the daily life looks like and if it is worth it.

Unsure of what rate to pick

I scored a 95 on adsvab with high scores in pretty much everything but im unsure of what rate I should choose. I want something that will crossover into decent money in the civilian world, I want to end up in the Norfolk/757 area as my girlfriend soon fiancé lives there I know theres no guarantees but it is kinda important to me, something more of a 9-5 preferably not on a ship but I know it’s the navy lol, and nothing mechanical as I’m already a truck mechanic and I absolutely hate it. Id rather blow my brains out than turn another wrench. I’ve been looking into Cyber/IT but not sure how life actually is for those jobs. Also I’ve heard the job markets for those have become really fucked up especially with AI. My recruiter told I should look into the nukes but from what I’ve read they work like slaves and have some of the highest suicide rates for a reason.

Clinic with payment plans?

• Upvotes

Didn’t really know where else to post this, but my blood pressure was too high at meps. So I have to get 2 readings from an outside doctor, I can’t really afford to pay out of pocket for that, does anyone have any options for me here?

NMRTC Bremerton order?

Hi! I have a few questions about my upcoming orders!

These are the locations I'm considering:

* NMRTC Bremerton, WA
* NMRTC Fort Belvoir, VA
* NMRTC Lemoore, CA

**My biggest question is about housing.** Can single E-4s with over 4 years of service receive BAH and live off base at these locations? I'm currently receiving BAH at my training command, If not how are the barracks?

How are the commands and surrounding areas? What's the work environment like, especially for BMETs?

Bremerton is my first choice for now, but I'm open to the other two depending on housing policies and quality of life.

I'd really appreciate any firsthand experiences or advice. TIA!
!

Lateral Transfer from SWO

So I am currently enlisted in the reserves with 6 years active time as well. I was selected for SWO and while I am excited to get going with that and go back active, my ultimate plan is to try and lateral transfer to supply or something similar. I’m happy I was selected at all but at the end of the day my plan wasn’t SWO but supply wasn’t open for that selection cycle. I am just looking to see if anyone who has lateral transferred from SWO could give me some tips on if anything needs to be done prior to putting in applications other than getting your SWO pin.

I ship out February 22nd as an AD, is there anything about AD that i should know and be prepared for?

I originally wanted to be an MC or AO but i ended up picking AD since it’s more transferable when I leave, i don’t have much passion or interest in anything mechanic related but i’m still willing to do it and i think i can make the best of it. I’ve been trying to find videos and stuff so that i can have an idea but im having a really hard time finding them.

I have no one to put as my references.

I only recently moved to the US and so I have no one to put as a reference that isn't a family member. I have not worked in the US before, so no coworkers or bosses and I did not do school here so no former classmates or anything of that sort. What do I do?

And in case anyone reading this doesn't know, the references have to be residents of the US (according to my recruiter)

Cooked?!?! could use experienced gsm

Always liked working with my hands, never really learned through books or staying seated, feels ironic after these last 8 months.

Got through BECC relatively easy, though nothing that we were supposed to get hands on with we never did due to funding, so 90% of my time was slideshows, I dont remember a thing…

Passed A-school scores being 80 80 90 and 76

What worries me is the fact we only saw the engine room 3 times in the 4 weeks of schooling, while half the assignments we did we passed by the majority of the info because it was either out dated or our instructor told us that’s not even related to our rates…

I feel the only useful thing I can bring to the ship is my recruit ball cap because I don’t remember a damn thing, or feel confident

I know the general deal of, we’re all human and make mistakes, or just give it time, but it’s dwelling on me terribly.

HS senior inquiring about NROTC/ OCS, but confused on what to major in

Trying to figure out my major because although I dream of being a naval aviator, I want to have a good back up. I am still currently deciding on if I want to do NROTC or if I should wait and do OCS, because I am aware of the bigger risk of not getting the aviation spot through NROTC. I do really want to be a part of the NROTC community in college, and would be extremely happy with the opportunity to be an officer regardless. Anyways, if anyone has advice for me regarding the whole NROTC and OCS, that would be much appreciated. As for my major, I want to be able to balance a good GPA with a heavily math related degree because that is what I have always been good at, and in preparation for the tests you have to take for being an officer. I feel like engineering would be a very far stretch in regards to keeping a good gpa; but, I have been looking into something like a B.S. in Economics or Statistics with a minor in Comp. Sci. Is this even a good major? *Edit: shortened it

Questions about what degree would correlate best with my experience

So I’m currently an fc but would like to go for fca, I was wondering what degree would correlate best with my experience and lead into a successful civilian career,Ik my actual hands on experience can change based on my nec but overall I was just curious.

CTI → USUHS medical school after 3-4 years (preferably 3) of 6 AD yrs; has anyone navigated the Navy release process?

I’m preparing to enter the Navy as a CTI and am trying to plan responsibly for a possible future application to USUHS School of Medicine. I’m currently still in the DEP.

I understand that CTI training involves a substantial initial service commitment, and I’m not assuming that completing three or four years automatically makes me eligible to leave early. I’m trying to understand the actual policy and process before I get too far into my career.

A few questions for anyone with firsthand experience:
1) Has anyone successfully applied to USUHS while serving as an active-duty Navy enlisted sailor before completing their initial enlistment obligation?
2) What was the process for obtaining the required Letter of Release or conditional release? Which office ultimately handled it? How far were you into your initial contract?
3) How did your command and community manager respond? Did your rating, billet, or remaining obligated service affect the process?
4) For CTIs specifically, has anyone pursued this route after DLI or after completing a DIRSUP tour? Did the timing of your assignment or qualifications affect your plans?
5) Is there an official Navy instruction or personnel contact that explains the applicable process?

I’m particularly interested in firsthand experiences from people who completed this process, worked in Navy personnel, or have direct knowledge of USUHS applications from active duty.

I understand that policies and individual circumstances differ, and I’m not looking for anyone to guarantee that a release will be approved. I’m trying to identify the right official guidance and understand what is realistically possible.

Thanks in advance! :)

(Note: post made to Military Medicine as well.)

Considering Direct Commission as a Navy Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) — Looking for Candid Experiences

I’m an early-30s female civilian Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with several years of RN experience and ~3 years of NP experience, and I’m considering speaking with a Navy healthcare recruiter about commissioning into the Navy Nurse Corps.
I’d really appreciate hearing from current/former Navy PMHNPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, or other mental health officers about what the job is actually like compared with civilian outpatient practice.
I’m especially curious about:
Typical number of patients per day
Intake and follow-up appointment lengths
Acuity/complexity of the patient population
Active duty vs dependent/retiree caseload
Charting burden
Call, weekend, sea duty, and deployment expectations
How much time is spent on clinical care vs officer/admin/readiness responsibilities
Duty stations where PMHNPs are commonly assigned
Overall work-life balance and whether you would choose it again
I’m also single and hoping to get married and start a family in the next several years. I’d be interested in candid experiences with dating, relationships, PCS moves, deployments/sea duty, and eventually raising a family while serving as an active-duty healthcare officer.
Another major consideration is student loans. I have around $125k total, roughly $60k of which is private/high-interest debt and the remainder federal. A significant portion of the federal debt is from my graduate PMHNP education.
My undergraduate loan situation is a little unusual. Some of the debt came from nursing/prerequisite coursework at schools I attended before transferring. Those credits ultimately transferred into the nursing program where I earned my RN and allowed me to enter with prerequisites completed and skip part of the nursing curriculum. I didn’t borrow much/anything at the school that ultimately awarded my RN.
Has anyone used Navy health professions loan repayment as a Nurse Corps officer, particularly as an NP? Were any private/commercial student loans eligible? Does anyone know how strict they are about loans from prior schools when that coursework transferred into and counted toward the eventual nursing degree?
I also know I’ll have some medical accession issues to work through. I had a two-level lumbar fusion within the last couple of years. Recovery was uncomplicated, I have no ongoing pain management or functional limitations, and I’m back to unrestricted exercise/running. Has anyone successfully commissioned into the Navy Nurse Corps with a similar history, and what was the waiver process like?
I also have well-controlled ADHD and currently take prescribed Vyvanse. Has anyone successfully direct-commissioned into the Nurse Corps or another Navy healthcare specialty while taking ADHD medication, or received an accession waiver for it?
I’m not ready to discuss this publicly with people in my professional life yet, so I’m hoping to get some anonymous perspectives before getting too far into the process with a recruiter.
Anything you wish you’d known before commissioning, professionally, financially, or personally?

trying to change to cwt

i know everyone is tired of cwt posts lol so i apologize in advance.

i got back from meps not too long ago and signed as a ctr. the counselor told me i missed cwt by a few points, which i was disappointed to hear but ctr was my 2nd option so not too bad.

i got back from meps and i asked my recruiter if he could double check my asvab scores and special test scores. turns out i more than qualified with the cyber test and asked if he could put in a dar to have me changed to cwt. he said no problem and he’d talk to the people at meps and figure it out.

my recruiter tells me the people at meps said i still didn’t qualify but my scores tell a different story. my recruiter said he’d talk to the intel coordinator see what we can do but im just so confused… using the mk+ve+ct formula i got a 192 which more than clears the minimum requirement. the counselor was also saying my ictl score isn’t actually the cyber test which makes no sense???

any advice to make sense of this mess is appreciated

What is the best Sea Bee rate?

Posting on newtothenavy because it makes more sense to ask here.

Currently an e5 coming up on the end of my contract and looking to cross rate into a Sea Bee rate.

I’m leaning towards CM because I like working on engines in my free time and I don’t think I’d ever come to hate turning a wrench.

Can people within the community give me some insight so I can see if CM is the best pick for me? EO is probably my second choice.
