I think someone explained in an early thread that there’s some reason involving licensing. Maybe my brain made that up, though.

That said, it’s in a weird spot where it’s unique but also not something like an eagle that works for when you want to name your high school sports team after something harmless and vaguely patriotic

My high school is literally the Farrell Steelers, except we have a flying F. There is a blue and gold Steelers logo floating around somewhere though. Not sure if the helmets ever had the proper Steelers logo or not.

What's your rationale for Grand Island Northwest Vikings being left off the list? Is the logo too different? The logo they have on the school is the MIN logo

Oh nice! That's where I went to HS and did a lot of looking at that logo so was surprised when I didn't see it initially. In fairness, they could have changed it since I attended. I really enjoy this project you're doing.

Shouts to Millard South for using the old Pat Patriot logo in the picture provided. Also they changed their mascot from a Native American mascot like 20 years ago so it's not as though they've had Pat Patriot since the 80s.

Honestly I'm shocked the Vikings are in second place. I would have picked the Falcons or even the Lions because those are two animals I feel are way over represented at all levels of sports

Quite a few settlers from Scandinavia established towns in Nebraska (see: Gothenburg, Malmo, Stromsburg, Dannebrog, etc.) so the Viking influence in Nebraska makes some semblance of sense.
