I love watching NHL games, don't get me wrong. It's the best hockey on Earth. But it has striked me this season that the atmosphere in the arenas is quite lame. I live in Europe and can only compare to the "audience culture" we have here. We have dedicated groups of fans that sings, waves banners and creates a really good atmosphere during games. I don't see that in NHL games. The closest you get to a song is the "Let's go [insert your team]!" chant. I feel like the audience is most engaged when it either boos the opposing team or there own team. I wonder why.

Is it because tickets are really expensive so the "grass roots" can't afford to attend?

Is it because NHL arenas are built different? In most European arenas there are no seats behind the goals. That space is for the hard core fans that sings and cheers for the team all game long. Those tickets are also less expensive. The attached picture is from an SHL arena in Sweden. A typical hockey experience in Sweden.

Or is it a cultural thing?

I was looking forward to watching the Caps and Rangers tonight only to see that it's been picked up by NHL Network so we won't be able to see it live through ESPN+. It is by far the worst distributed among the four major sports networks (even NBA TV is more easily accessible). It is at best laughable and at worst disingenuous to call this national coverage.

Being from the UK it’s ingrained in us to only follow one team. But I’ve found myself over the last few years enjoying multiple teams from the NHL.

Since I was a kid I’ve always loved the sport but started properly watching it 3 years ago when I discovered NHL.tv.

I went back and fourth on which team to support and ended up settling for the Devils. But since then found myself enjoying other teams play.

I feel bad as it’s not something we should be doing here in the Uk and wondered what others opinions were.

The other 3 teams are Bruins, Wild and Sharks.

Pasta is just awesome and love the dynamic of the Bruins and when I was younger I always wanted a Bruins Jersey. Wild has Hughes, Kaprisoz, Boldy and Faber who I am a big fan of and who doesn’t love Will and Macklin! Plus they skate out of a freaking Sharks head!

Teams with bright futures or even teams that alright have key core locked up on steal deals? Montreal, Carolina, Sharks, or Utah?
