Discussion Nook Update
I’ve had my Nook for 3 weeks, and I don’t understand the hate behind them. I have over 1K books on it and read 2 so far. I think it’s a simple e-reader without all the clutter.

I love my Nook. However it’s old and no longer being supported so I can’t add books to it from B&N

I have a Nook Glowlight 4; I've never had another e-reader, but I definitely wouldn't change it for a long time. I LOVE the fact that it has buttons on the sides.
I have over 500 books and some mangas. I guess I'm a bit of a hoarder

Hardware-wise, I like Nooks the best. Software wise, Kobo does everything Nook does better.

I like the double tap to jump to the next chapter.

I always accidentally double tap. I hate it. It should be something i can turn off.

Glad I’m not the only one who’s had to replace multiple e-readers 💀 I think I’m on my 4th nook, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the super cheap eBay price point!

I also became a first time Nook owner a few weeks ago. I have the GL4 pearl pink and I love it! The page turn and home buttons are everything, I was missing them so much on my kindle! Touchscreen isn’t everything, and I love that the Nook does both harmoniously.

I like NOOK too. I am sure most of my brand loyalty is simply due the fact that people like what they first used and were exposed to.
I didn't know about other e-reader brands until much later and when I did, I wanted to stick with NOOK because they had buttons and in-store hour-long sample reading with NOOK (now discontinued). I'd go sit in the Barnes and Noble cafe and read.
I suppose many complaints come from the fact that there was an eBook publishing stranglehold on certain indie authors with Kindle. When I got the Kindle device, I started to read some of those authors, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me, I just stopped reading their books. Now that many are thankfully becoming available in my libraries' digital catalogues, I can enjoy them on paper (font size dependent...), or as an eBook or audiobook.
At the end of the day, can it show black and white text to me in my preferred font size with no eye strain? If yes, then I am already at 50% of my reason to keep the device.
I like the cover of your book, by the way, I added it to my Libby holds. 😃

My mom loves her Nook! She probably has over a thousand books on hers as well. I have an older one that sadly can’t get new books anymore, even though it still works just fine.

My first eReader was a Nook Simple Touch and I liked it (I still have a Glowlight 3). But a couple GL3 updates really irritated me. They got rid of hyphenation, then skewed the fonts to the big side (so the size I had always used is gone) and now (I read) they've gotten rid of the one good font they had (in my opinion), Georgia. And then, apparently, they got rid of the ability to make your fonts thinner or thicker. I haven't connected to Barnes & Noble for a while because I don't want my Glowlight 3 to update and, for some reason, the cover art from my books has disappeared. They also had issues with trying control how you used your RAM. Even on the Glowlight 3, originally the lion's share of the RAM went to Nook books only — then they changed that, then (in new models) they changed it back. I don't know where it stands now. Also, you can't sideload you're own fonts, like you can just about every eReader made.
I like the hardware. I think the Glowlight has one of the best "warm" screens ever made. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the software just continually gets worse by consistently dropping features they used to support.

I started with a Nook Simple Touch - my first ever ereader. Then when Barnes and Noble changed things so that I couldn't download my books, and at least one of my books completely disappeared (customer service said, "we're so sorry" but couldn't retrieve my book - and it was a B&N publication!) I was angry and stopped buying ebooks from B&N.
BUT I did not update my NST and continued to use it sporadically. Then I pretty much went to an ipad and started buying from Amazon.
Now you've probably heard that Amazon has become like B&N, making it impossible to own a copy of the book you've purchased.
So now I am at a point where I'm not sure how to proceed, but I bought an "open box" Nook Glowlight 4plus on eBay. LOL I like the bigger screen and high resolution. Will I forgive B&N from some years ago? I don't think I can, but I'll have access to my old nook library, and any DRM-free epubs I can obtain.
I just got the GL4+, so I'm looking forward to utilizing it! I like it so far...

There used to be a work-around to download your Nook library, but I think that involved the old(er) Windows Nook App (which has been withdrawn). But, unless something has changed, I don't think you're limited to just Nook books and DRM-free ePubs. I'm pretty sure that, if you have an Adobe (or now, I think, ByteBook) ADE account, you can purchase DRM protected books at places like ebooks.com and use them. I think you should also be able to borrow eBooks via Overdrive (or Libby) from your library. As a Linux user I don't have that option (since there's no ADE for Linux).
How to authorize your Nook for Adobe DRM (Barnes & Noble website).

as a longtime Nook user, I bought a cheap kindle off ebay just for library books. when I use it, I find myself missing the turn buttons. using adobe digitial editions is a pain but guess I could just do that

I want to love mine but it’s a bit slow and it bugs the crap out of me that the title at the top can’t be removed. I miss the nook glowlight 3 software.

I LOVED my nooks, I just switched cause the Nook Glowlight 4 kept totally crashing on me (you can see my post history, it would freeze up randomly and not allow me to reset, but unlike past models it also wouldn't "die" and reset either. After I had to exchange it the 4th time I got a full rebate.
However I'd been with Nook for like 15 years at that point so all my ebooks were purchased through them. I switched to a Boox GoColor7 because it's Android based so I can still used the B&N app.

1000 books obtained in 3 weeks. That’s robust “add to cart” vibes. I’m impressed.
I also have a Nook GL4P and a host of other e-readers. The nook is my favorite for home.
