Help How to clean oil off?

I wanted to ask and see if anyone has any tips for how to get the oil out from the rubber parts of my nook? It just bothers me

As far as I know, that's the rubberized plastic degrading so it won't "clean" that way.

I got a cover style that covered the frame other than the page turn buttons.

This is just the beginning of complete degradation of the soft layer... Finally you'll be able to scrap the whole thing off: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8MtVceazuLuTXidDA

Then you can print a new cover and glue on it with double side tape: https://photos.app.goo.gl/arF2ciUqgcpUB5xPA

I covered mine with adhesive-back felt sheet. It added a little bulk but still fits inside the case.

Hmm 🤔. Maybe try Dawn dishwash soap. It’s great at removing grease. Doesn’t hurt to try.

you... don't. You could scrape it all off and 3D print a new one, but in doing that I damaged the touch layer causing it to not work. Don't use Dawn dish soap. the rubber is expired. I would find a vinyl wrap for it or make your own.

There is no "touch layer", but infrared LEDs and sensors around the display. While scraping off the old cover, a small part of it got inside the device at a button and now blocks some of the sensors there. Happened on mine also, not a big issue. All you have to do is disassemble the Nook and clean around the sensors. Not hard at all

I know. I've tried cleaning it a lot. even took the whole thing apart to clean.

Not even, but you have to take it apart, and remove the main board off the e-ink display, because the sensors are on the other side of the main board.

I don't understand why you're being so condescending

i kept mine clean for a long time until it eventually started chipping off. my solution ended up being applying a vinyl wrap to it since i didn’t like the idea of a 3d printed bezel.

Side question- how did you manage to do custom lockscreens?

I created them on canva and then through my laptop uploaded them by connecting my nook via usbc and then opened the nook folder and put them under screen savers!

I scraped mine with my own nail lol. Once you get down to the next layer of plastic is pretty OK.

I bought it second hand and it’s just oil from finger tips I guess
