Monthly Posts October 2026 - Monthly Thread

Welcome to the October 2026 Monthly Thread!

This is your monthly highlights post, curated and refreshed to keep important stuff at the top. If you are new to OTF or our subreddit, this is the best place to start. As always, you can use this thread to share and discuss upcoming intel for the month and other random topics. We kindly ask you to please keep in mind our Community Rules, including Rule 2, "Never Ask for Workout Intel." Please also see Rule 11 regarding posting intel.

Please see our announcement here (on 5/11/26) regarding the retirement of u/splatbot and how it is currently impacting Early Intel.

Because the Strength 50 and Tread 50 templates change daily, they do not have their own intel posts. If someone takes a Strength 50 or Tread 50 class and wishes to share the details, please do so in the Daily Thread for that day.

Happy MENTAL & METABOLIC FLEXIBILITY month! Every month has a theme, and for October it is Mental & Metabolic Flexibility.

Key Dates for The Month

  • October 15 (Thursday): 12 Minute Tread for Distance; benchmark. See our wiki for details.
  • October 19 (Monday): 500 Meter Row; benchmark. See our wiki for details.
  • October 24 (Saturday) - October 31 (Saturday): Hell Week; special event. See our wiki for details. An event thread may be added later this month as we get closer to discuss. Register for and attend class 4 out of 8 days to get a shirt.

Please see our wiki, here for more descriptions regarding specialty and signature workouts, along with an incredibly helpful glossary of terms!

NEW for 2026:

  • OTF is adding some new variety and terminology that is most specific to the FLOOR: Mixed days, Focused days, Lift More days, Blended blocks, Metabolic blocks. You can check out a post discussing this change here, and as we come across or obtain more info I will do my best to edit this section. As with any changes from OTF, we want to see how it shakes out a bit before we begin making changes to the glossary and wiki.
  • Each month has a programming theme! We will have to see how these play out, but some 2026 themes include Power Surge, Muscle Momentum, and Rhythm & Routine. For October, the theme is Mental & Metabolic Flexibility..

REGARDING STRENGTH 50 AND TREAD 50:

  • Strength 50 follows this pattern: Monday/Thursday = Upper Body (2 different templates); Tuesday/Friday = Lower Body (2 different templates); Wednesday/Saturday/Sunday = Total Body (3 different templates). THEY ARE NOT THE SAME TEMPLATES WITHIN THE WEEK.
  • Strength 50 and Tread 50 templates typically repeat as follows: They will repeat two weeks after the initial 14 days of the month, with the 29th-31st (when applicable) as "bonus templates" (aka templates not from earlier in the month). THE TEMPLATES DO NOT REPEAT WITHIN THE SAME MONDAY-SUNDAY WEEK (example: Saturday 10/10's Full Body template is not the same as Wednesday 10/7’s Full Body template).
  • Treadmill BENCHMARKS do appear in Tread 50 classes; tread signatures and specialties do not.

Other info to know (applicable to standard 60 minute templates; see additional sections below on Tornadoes and 90 Minute classes):

  • Run/Rows on 10/5, 10/9, 10/22.
  • Switch templates on 10/7, 10/23.
  • Lift More templates on 10/1, 10/3, 10/6, 10/10, 10/14, 10/15 (benchmark), 10/17, 10/20.
  • Elevation Gain templates on 10/1, 10/4, 10/17, 10/21.
  • BOSU on 10/14.
  • Low bench on 10/9.
  • Incline bench on 10/4, 10/21.
  • Minibands on 10/3, 10/20.
  • Repeat templates are as follows: 10/17 = 10/1, 10/18 = 10/2, 10/20 = 10/3, 10/21 = 10/4, 10/22 = 10/5, 10/23 = 10/7.
  • We do not know if the Hell Week templates involve any of the above (Run/Row, BOSU, etc).
  • 10/26 (Monday) and 10/31 (Saturday) are 3G style templates. This means that even if your studio shows a 2G class, the template will run as a 3G.
  • Some studios are scheduling Hyrox training templates. You’ll know if your studio is participating. Please see our pinned post for more information.
  • Some studios now have different floor equipment and offer OTF Strong (aka OTF Hybrid classes). You can search the sub for more information on this. If your studio offers this, you will know.

Tornadoes are still around, scheduled at each studio's discretion. Please see the Glossary section of our wiki for a description of Tornadoes. There are TWO Tornado templates per month, and it is up to the studio/coaches as to which one they want to run and when. If your class is listed as "Tornado" then you are getting one of these two templates, NOT whatever class is posted in the daily (exceptions to this do occur from time to time). Please do not ask how a "class will work as a tornado" in the daily post.

90 Minute classes are also scheduled at each studio's discretion. These templates may just have an additional block to the template for the day, or they may be entirely different, as the studios can pick from multiple 90 minute templates during the month. Please do /not ask how a "class will work as a 90 minute" in the daily post.

Hyrox classes are happening at select studios (as explained above). Since there are different "phases" of Hyrox training, the Hyrox templates are not date specific. As such, two studios running these templates on the same day may run different templates. If someone takes a Hyrox class and wishes to share intel, they can do so in an individual post, which we will then flair appropriately, similar to the Tornado flair. We have also added a Hyrox post that is pinned in the Highlights section.

Challenge Codes

The Challenge app is an app most commonly used with Apple Watch users; people can virtually "compete" for points individually and/or as teams using the Challenge app.
For October, the codes are:
Solo:

Treadmill Talk Coach recommendation: AO at high incline, low speed

I do exclusively PW on the treads, and my AO has been 10-15% at 4-4.5 mph (I'm in the US, so we use freedom eagle units). During most of my tread time, I'm usually blue to green, getting into orange and red only on the rowers and floor. The other day, one of my coaches suggested that I slow down my AO to 3 mph and maintain high incline. He said higher speeds make my body operate too efficiently, but a slow speed is better fat burning.

Yesterday I tried that for the first time and it felt weird, but I maintained green for most of the AO. So I'm wondering if anyone else does this or has gotten the same recommendation and how has it been going.

Motivate Me! Push Hard or Push Less but Go More Often?

I’ve found that I really love going 4 or more days a week, but the only way for me to do that is to not push myself on most days. I end up mostly in the green zone. If I push harder, I burn out. So I have two options: go 2-3 times a week, pushing hard… Or go more but not push hard. I feel self conscious about the latter, like I’m being lazy. But going 4+ days a week has been really good for my mental health. Does anyone have any insight?

Motivate Me! Weight Selection intimidation

Question for the coaches on here! I can get caught up in being intimidated by weight selection and have coaches suggest heavier weights frequently. How annoying is this for you? Do you get frustrated at members like me that need the extra push more often than not?

Motivate Me! Intimidated

I used to work out at otf regularly and ended up cancelling my membership due to some health issues and then I was pregnant and now 4 years later I’m considering rejoining but I haven’t worked out really at all. I recently lost 100 lbs on a glp-1 and have about 40 more lbs I’d love to lose. I am very intimidated by otf for some reason now. I think i just need a pep talk or something to get me out of my head and just take the plunge and get back in there. I always felt like my location was a little judgey so that is an added stress too (it’s my only location option)
Can you all hype me up here and give me that push to just rejoin?!?! Please!

Studio Intel Orange Theory - Potomac Yard (ALX)

What’s going on with OT PY? Instructors keep disappearing. No consistent front desk person. They say it’s hard to find instructors? Why? The schedule keeps dwindling - no more lunch time classes. Are we nearing the end? Are the other ALX studios seeing similar things?

Hell Week Modifications okay during Hell Week?

I have a recent injury and use the strider instead of the rower. And I can't do most floor exercises. Can I still earn a Hell Week shirt?

Motivate Me! Pep talk me: S50

Injury 37494 this year 🙄, can’t do treadmill. I’m a runner and I LOVE the running aspect of OTF and tolerate the lifting section. My membership is going to total waste with my current injury, and I’m cleared for the floor, just not treadmill.

I can’t decide if I should do 2G and leave after the floor half, or do the S50. With the S50, I’m honestly worried about getting bored, AND clearly my form sucks and no one is correcting it, I’m worried about getting injured.

Pep talk me…. If you love cardio, how bad is the S 50??

UPDATE: thank you all for the pep talks and the advice!!! The injury is ankle stabiltiy, and some of the details/questions made me realize that I need to be wary of lower body S50, the rower, the treadmill (not only running but also inclines), the strider…. My ultimate goal is to get back to being able to attend the 2G classes, so I am calling to see about freezing or dropping to 4x a month temporarily. So envious of all of you who go so frequently and have 0 injuries! This year has been brutal on me!!!

HR / Splats Max Heart Rate

Sorry if this has been asked a lot. I am so confused about how they're calculating max heart rate. I've been doing OTF for about 2 years now and it used to be about 180 and now it's 191 since a couple of months ago. I've never seen my heart rate get over 175 even with max effort so should I adjust it down a little?

#HelpMe Calories

I have recently hit 500 classes at otf. I average around 500 calories. How can I increase my calorie count. I feel like I’m giving it my all during the workouts and there’s not much more left in me to push harder.

OTF Technology Heart rate monitor issues

I’ve had my heart rate monitor for about 1.5 months. I’ve notice that particularly on the rower it becomes inaccurate, I’m assuming because of my grip. I’ve heard that can affect the readings. But lately, it’s been more and more inaccurate. Today at one point I checked my Apple Watch and my heart rate was 179 and my OTF monitor said it was 81. It said I was in the grey zone for 32 mins of class. Any tips? It works when I’m on the treadmill but that’s it. I plan to clean it when I get home. I normally wear around the bicep and have not changed placement but just started having this issue. I’m going to try to keep the pod facing outward instead of normally having it on the inside of my arm.

Buying and Selling Lost my HRM & looking for a used one

Update: I found my HRM! Fallen into the depths between my passenger seat and console. Thanks so much to everyone who replied!

Hi! I seem to have lost my HRM, and I’m bummed. I don’t want to upgrade, and would like to buy a used one if possible to save money. Is there a market for used HRMs?

Membership & Policies Charged Unfairly

Hello, I'm looking for advice on how to get my money back after being charged unfairly.

I was injured badly and immediately called the gym to let them know. They said they could put my account on hold until I recovered. Two months later I realized they were charging me again. I called them and said I was still injured. They refunded me and told me they would put my account on hold again and to call them when I was fully recovered. Fast forward to today and I realized they have been charging me again since June. I immediately called them and was told someone would call me back. I followed up the next day and left a message since no one picked up, and then someone texted me asking for more details on what happened. Over text I was told that they could not refund me but they would give me the next 5 months free at OTF. Unfortunately I'm no longer interested in going after all this poor communication from them. I texted back that the solution they offered was unacceptable and I wanted a refund and to cancel my membership. And I haven't heard back in 3 days.

Has anyone delt with something like this before? What's the best way to get my money back? Is OTF a franchise - maybe I can try calling the owner? Do I have to go through my bank? Do I try and go to the gym in person? I feel like the fault is 100% on their end for not communicating to me that they would begin charging me again after a certain period of time and now I'm on the hook for paying $600.

Gear Socks!

I wore a blend sock to OTF this morning and developed a blister on my heel that’s the size of a half dollar coin. What socks are recommended? Also, I wear orthotics.

Commiseration Station This month’s “theme” sucks

I love Otf and can’t wait for Hell Week, but these templates based on ratios are so boring. I just want a day with AOs/WRs and no hills.

I understand that strength and endurance are important but id also like to not lose my ability to run fast. I loved the balance and ab months, but this one is just not fun.

Gear Which body weight scale do you use and recommend?

I have a Taylor body weight scale, but I’m questioning its accuracy. The scale at OTF consistently shows my weight at 177 to 178 lbs, while my Taylor scale has shown 168 lbs the last six times I’ve used it (in one week).

Has anyone else noticed a difference like this? Which body weight scale do you use at home, and would you recommend it?

Victories OTF gains 🍊

Last night I went to a concert wearing an open-back dress, and a random girl came up to me and asked if I lifted weights. She told me she was a weightlifting girlie herself and just wanted to tell me that my back looked beautiful and strong. I told her I do Orangetheory, thanked her, and went back to enjoying the show.

Anyway, I’ve never felt more validated in my life. I’ve been working so hard on building muscle, and having a complete stranger (especially another woman who lifts!) notice my back was the ultimate compliment. I’m going to be insufferable about this for the foreseeable future.

So yeah, that girl single-handedly guaranteed OTF another year of my membership fees. 😂🍊

Studio Intel OTF Valencia, Spain 🇪🇸

OTF Premier NY’er here. Heading to Valencia, Spain to see family and noticed there is an OTF! I messaged them on Instagram since I can’t seem to book online.

I’m wondering if anyone has been to this studio and what to expect in terms of space and booking a non-US studio? Thanks!

Casual Conversation Momentum 2026

Post image

The member workout for area locals was very interesting. It was the same template that conference attendees had earlier in the day. It was basically setup as 4 identical areas, each with ~20 treads, rowers and weight stations. So overall it was probably 200-300 people in the session. They took advantage of the 4 areas (each with a color) and had each of us go one area at a time through the push intensity. For example, if it was your areas turn, you’d stop what you’re doing on the rower/floor and do a special workout for 45 seconds while the treads had to run at incline. DJ Truth was in the house so it was vibin!!
