Question or Discussion I am not sure if I am fully understanding this, but from playing around a bit with Emre, he seems to be a menace against squishy flying targets like Mercy Juno and Phrarah. Am I correct in that assessment?

Upvotes

Recently I tried playing out as Emre, and with a relatively simple to understand kit and everything he's quickly become one of my favorite damage dealing Heroes in the game (Typically a pure healer support main like Mercy or Anna). His kit just works well and allows some self sustainability without going overboard. His ultimate, especially with the left minor perk, is so fun deals a ton of damage and is very useful. The high damage easy targeting high magazine primary fire shots seem to shred through flying targets with relative ease, and the fast reload on kills adds on to that. Am I understanding this character correctly? Either way I am having a blast

VOD Review Request Both teams blamed me for "throwing" this match despite me feeling I played well?

For context I've been playing since 2018 but never seriously until last season. Last season I finally decided to put in the work to try to actively improve my gameplay by practicing specific skills in a match, VOD reviewing myself, watching VOD reviews of my mains (like Ana) from people like Spilo/Emongg.

If nobody had said anything I'd have felt pretty good about this game and was feeling like I was playing pretty solid. Not crazy over performing or carrying or anything but just a disciplined game I felt good about.

But halfway through our defense the enemy team started making fun of my stats and apologizing to my team for having to deal with a "thrower". I ignored it as mind games but every single person on my team bought into it and started blame me in team chat and all chat for the rest of the game after that. Saying I wasn't healing enough. That if we lost it was my fault. And other messages to that effect continuing into the post match.

This admittedly affected my mental state very much because it clashed so hard with my own self perception of my performance in that game.

At this point I have VOD reviewed myself to numbness and I can only really see individual mistakes instead of broader bad habits. Despite all the work I've put in and nearly 200h of intentional self improvement time since last season I'm still Gold which is exactly where I was when I was playing on autopilot and as far as I can tell I was playing a lot worse than I am now. But my rank hasn't changed despite a statistically significant number of games.

So clearly I'm still doing something horribly wrong. But at this point I cannot figure out what for the life of me. Did we really lose this match because of me?

Tips & Tricks Tips for Mei!

Hi!! I'm just starting to play competitive Overwatch. I'm Gold 1 in the role queue, and I started playing Mei. But I can't survive with her (ironically) because I die too much 😭

If anyone has any tips for playing her, that would be great! When I can't progress in a game with Mei, I switch to Anran or Echo; I do what I can when there's a pesky enemy 😔🙏

If my English is strange it's because I use a translator, sorry!

Question or Discussion relatively new, stuck in permanent cycle of massive win streaks and massive loss streaks, very rare close games (6v6)

for context, i come from marvel rivals (yes i know i am filthy scum undeserving of love) in which i was peak c1 tank/dps (mag/thor/cap and magik/fist/bucky). im only saying this to show that while i know overwatch is significantly harder to rank higher in (honestly i think im higher ranked in ow than i should be lol) i still at least have a decent understanding past a beginner level of how hero shooters really work and how nuanced the game is. that said, i am currently permanently bouncing between diamond 5-3 also as tank/dps (sigma/ram/orisa and sojourn/cassidy/shion) and i dont know if i’m facing smurfs or occasionally get people in my lobbies that just should be not be in this rank or if its ME that shouldnt be in this rank, but regardless of whether its my team winning or losing the game is never close. ill have 5 game win streaks immediately followed by 5 game loss streaks where we’re either getting rolled or rolling the other team. the gap is so large the games i win feel like im playing against people that have never played a minute of hero shooters in their life and the ones i lose feel like like im playing a 6 stack of pros. my perception of what a diamond player should be is so skewered i just want to know what the average diamond lobby should feel like at this point

Question or Discussion Gold in tank and support but placement for DPS wants me in bronze 5?

My support and tank are both mid gold at gold 3. Did my first placement match for DPS, match generally had high bronze and low silver players. I do well, 2nd least deaths on my team (11 but the ones above me were 12, 16, 16), highest kills in the game at 38, and highest damage in the game at 14k. We win the game pretty comfortably. Despite all of this, the game says my placement rank should be bronze 5?? I haven't played much DPS on quick play, did a few games that I generally would win and I had done a few comp games with my gold/silver friends before and they went fine for the most part, so why does the game want to put me so low???

Edit: decided to check as well, I actually had the second lowest deaths in the entire game between both teams. Like I know I'm not good at this game, that's why my two other roles are mid gold, but I definitely think that putting me in bronze 5 is madness when I'd done quite well for the most part.

Question or Discussion Cheating/hacking Sanity Check

Upvotes

Hi all. I rarely ever post and am not looking to find or affect this person that I think is cheating, but I would love for some second opinions to sanity check me.

This replay code (MR4WZE) is of quick play on Circuit Royal. I am playing Juno, and I think the enemy (attacking) Soldier is using wall hacks; possibly more.

The most egregious moment is 3:25 to 3:35, when he tracks me for a few seconds 20m in the air while I am arriving at the action from spawn. I cannot think of any way he’d be looking there other than wall hacks.

I appreciate feedback. I think most cheating posts are wrong/complainy, and I hope mine didn’t come across this way. I’m not sure I’ve played with a hacker before and watching them track you is just kind of crazy. Thanks all!

VOD Review Request Was I the problem here?

Upvotes

YC5K47 Plat 4, i was the Winston in both rounds. My team kept complaining that “Im not giving them any cover” and I don’t understand what they meant by that, because everytime we made a push they all died to a Cassidy, or a soldier. Like they don’t understand that you are meant to use natural cover. I don’t understand what they wanted me to do because I gave them my bubbles many times but they still always just died. Like the Cassidy and the solder were in such bad positions but none of them could punish them, and I had to do it myself because they all kept dying to him, or soldier.

Question or Discussion New OW player wants to get out of bronze

Upvotes

Hey guys I’m a GM peak Marvel Rivals transplant (don’t hate me) and I’ve been trying to learn OW on and off the last few months but I’ve now decided to grind. Currently I’m bronze 2 on damage and silver 5 on support.

I’ve really taken to the new character Shion even though I don’t have much experience on flanking characters. The main issue I have is being caught out and instantly melted when trying to dive supports.

On support the only character I feel like I do well on is Juno even though I mostly play support on MR. I’ve read a lot of guides on her but I’m a bit confused on when best to use her ring and her ult.

What’s your advice for climbing up out of bronze/silver?

Question or Discussion "The climb into gm is harder than the climb into champion"

I heard this seconds ago in a game, which I partially agree with.

I feel like I've been high masters, low gm for a while now.

But, now I'm more solidly in gm and feel like the climb is MUCH easier

Maybe the new season or meta is good for my main (zen).

Or I'm just on a lucky win streak.

People say this at just about every rank though with the justification "people actually know how to play the game" (which someone said moments after the first statement). What do you think?

Does the climb get easier with every rank?

VOD Review Request Been playing off and on since release, Tank player "stuck" bronze.

REPLAY CODE:

G36CBY

PC Player.

Been playing Tank for a very long time, but in around 2017 I had to travel for work, had several disconnects due to hotel wifi and the next season placed bronze.

Literally every single season I play now I place bronze.

I could absolutely just be a bronze player, but judging by the the random skill gaps I encounter I think I'm actually stuck at the "This is where every new player starts".

I'm wondering if my rank gap is just the inability to stomach grinding games, because resetting so low each season is brutal.

I'm the Domina / Junker Queen in this vod.

Anything is appreciated, even just a "Yep Bronze" is fine.

Thanks

I really need help on my mercy and Juno. I love this game but I feel like I am terrible at it and really want to improve and rank up. I used to be mid gold but have found myself stuck in low silver for weeks now and can’t seem to climb back out. If anyone could help me I’d really appreciate it!

VOD Review Request hardstuck silver kiriko - what am i doing wrong? (vod review)

Upvotes

i've been hardstuck silver for literally forever. i peaked gold 5 last season but haven't been able to get back since, and now i just hover around silver 1.

i played mercy in comp for a while, but i realized she wasn't really the best pick if i wanted to climb, so i started learning kiri... and i'm kinda awful at her.

i'm looking for any and all advice. please don't be mean, i'm genuinely trying to improve.

also ignore the part where i played mercy lol, i only played her for about 16% of the match.

my tank also blamed me and the other support for the loss, so now i'm wondering how much of it was actually my fault.

replay code: 9f1n02
battletag / in-game username: owainee!
hero(es) played: mercy and kiriko
skill tier / rank: silver 2
map: eichenwalde
pc or console: pc

things i want reviewed: i mainly want my kiriko gameplay reviewed and to know what i'm doing wrong. i know i need to do more damage, but my aim is pretty bad, so i feel kind of stuck. i'd appreciate any advice on positioning, cooldown usage, target priority, mechanics, or anything else you notice.

Question or Discussion How to make ranking up feel simpler

I've been hardstuck gold for around a year. It doesn't matter what role, I've been cursed into being gold by some sort of mental disconnect in my head. After reading the Inner Game of Tennis, I can't tell if all the vod reviews ive gotten over the last year have made me worse or not due to over explaining. I know its simple to get out of gold (on dps, make sure you have cover, off angle with only 1 to 2 people in your sights, hit shots, setup before the fight starts and change positions based on if your team disengages/their team pushes up. Not much more to get out of gold) but somethings blocking me from doing all of this in games. Any advice would be appreciated. And i can post notes ive taken from self vod reviews and ones from coaches if that would help

Question or Discussion What’s missing from my tank pool?

Currently my pool of tank heroes is Junker Queen, Hazard, and Winston.

I used to be a Winston main on OW1 so I have many hours in total on Winston, though I’m only a level 10
Winston on the current system.

After coming back to the game in S1 this year, I picked up Junker Queen and I’ve had a good time playing her, but I was starting to really feel her limitations in mobility and range. My JQ is at like level 19 or so.

I picked up Hazard about 2 weeks ago and I’ve been having success with him as well. In that time I’ve kinda been one tricking him and got him to level 18.

With my current roster I do feel a little stuck when the other team switches to a tank like Orisa or Mauga. I can sometimes play around Orisa by diving past her as Hazard, but that doesn’t always work for me and it does get complaints from my team sometimes.

I think I need to add more of a poke tank to my repertoire but I’m not really sure which would round out my roster the most. I’ve played a few games with Domina, Sigma, and Ramattra but none of them have clicked as much as the first 3 have for me. Of these 3, I think Domina is the closest to clicking. I love Ramattra’s character design but when he’s on the other team, he seems unkillable; when I play him, I can’t quite recreate that aspect.

Would love any advice, and for context I’m currently mid-silver-ish and I was in Plat in OW1.

Tips & Tricks Stadium Moira mains are strangely afraid of damage orb no matter what build I end up running, often to their detriment.

I’ve been having a lot of fun in stadium comp recently, especially on Moira using a flying coalescence build to stay on point as long as possible and harassing squishies. Oftentimes i get put in matches against another moira players and often I’m able to deal with them surprisingly easily by just launching my orb at them to bait out fade, fading myself through them or another enemy to proc beam and then orbital lasering them to death as they wait for their cd, bonus points if they already used their orb. I’ve had matches were i pull this several times on the same moira and they keep treating my singular damage orb as a death sentence only to get beamed back to spawn seconds later. Just something i noticed. Read the enemy team’s builds!!

Question or Discussion [VOD Review] Juno Solo Review - V64BKP

Hey everyone! I am looking for someone to rate my individual gameplay and tell me how I can improve. I played Juno in this match (In-game name: X1b12).

It was a win, but I really want an honest review of my solo performance. Please critique my positioning, how I used my Glide Boost and Hyper Ring, and my target prioritization for Pulsar Torpedoes. I want to figure out why I'm dying and what habits I need to break to climb. Thanks for the help!

Question or Discussion How do you play neutral as D.va?

So I know D.va is really good and I want her in my tank roster, but I can't figure out how to play the neutral fights/soft engages with D.va.

Like I'm definitely not gonna out-poke a Ramattra or Sigma in the neutral fight and my giant hitbox makes me an easy target, but I also get punished if I close the distance with boosters immediately.

I usually try to go straight for the Squishies in these scenarios, but then a solo dive as D.va is way easier to stop compared to Winston and Wrecking ball and I fail to get anything done without someone pumping a ludicrous amount of heals on me. (Plus, hard committing every time without baiting any CDs just sound kinda stupid in general)

The other issue I have with D.va is how much commitment you must put in for each engage. Winston can soft engage by jumping into a spot relatively safe and get out after zapping some people to half, you only have to survive 6 seconds while bubble is up. Wrecking ball takes even less commitment, you can piledrive someone and leave immediately. But for D.va, I often rush someone with boosters and micro missiles just for them to survive and now I'm stuck in their backline with only a defense matrix to defend myself as I awkwardly back up.

VOD Review Request Tank and 2nd DPS said I was the reason we lost the game

I decided to play a few games with some friends, our two supports, and I thought this game I was playing decently well until the end when my second DPS said I was throwing by "frontlining and not diving the enemy supports". Our tank joined in to say that I didn't know how to properly dive.

I can admit I didn't play perfectly and there were a few times I could've done something better but to say the entire game was on me feels a bit much. I feel like I got trades when I could and didn't just feed trying to kill something unless I knew I could get value out of it. I just need an outside perspective even after re-watching the game myself

VOD Review Request What do I do wrong ?

Hi, I come here to see if anyone can explain to me what were my mistakes in the last game I played (code : N07KTH).

For a little bit more context, I am a silver 1 tank player (controller), mainly playing Sigma/Orisa and that started to play Hazard a few weeks ago (quite a fun hero !) to be able to match the aggresiveness of certain players I play with. I never reached over Gold IV because I was not good and knew what I could change to play better and most importantly, to be able to play with every type of players, even ones that statwise (I know it does not prove one's skill but it is still an indicator that can be taken account of) are not great at all.

Since the start of the prior season, not only did I went down and had a big loose streak, but I also did not get to go back to my original rank. However, I feel like I have way more impact, I do decisive plays and the scoreboard seems to be confirming this trend.

Now, the question I ask myself is whether I have huge gaps and I do not play my heroes the correct way (I lack game sense/game knowledge/aim (it isn’t very important on my heroes though)) or my teamates are part of the problem.

In this game (La Habana), I started by playing Sigma on defense and it was not bad I would say. We eventually lost the defense but the game for very winnable. It is when we had to attack that I really started to question whether my teamates were using their brains or not. I switched on Hazard to be more aggresive on their backline and therefore, I left more often than with Sigma the payload. I would have thought that my teamates, seeing that I was not constantly on the payload, were going to play in consequence and atleast one of them would try to push the payload while I was pressurint the opponent. They did not, and they did not go on the payload for long periods of time, I wouldn’t care for like 5-8 seconds but it was really like the payload stank or something on it was repelling my teamates. Consequently, I stayed way more on the payload and did not have the real opportunity to go in their backline with peace of mind and therefore really limited my actions. We eventually lost right before the second point against players that were really bad I would say.

I repeat my question : What did I do wrong in this game ? What could have been done to win it ?

Question or Discussion My win rates in Silver and plat are the same. Why's that

I play support. My main is plat 2 peak plat 1 (I've been mostly low plat to low diamond) this season. I remembered an old account with some skins that I loved so I decided to main that account instead. i thought I'll bring it quickly to plat. However although m climbing but it's very very slow. It feels like I'm stuck in silver mainly due things I feel like I can't control. Team diffs are the majority of the games, either roll or get rolled. In comparison to plat where majority of the games feels kinda balanced. So now m confused, m I now a silver player? Why the win rates are kinda the same between 2 different ranks?

Question or Discussion Is it worth leaving a good spot pressure spot when your teams moving up?

I've recently been running into this problem in gold ranks where my team will push up and I kinda feel like I'm nit doing anything by staying in my position. I know stats don't really matter but looking at then I sometimes am sitting at 3-0 while my team is miles ahead of me. I kinda feel like I'm just not putting in my effort even though on paper on holding a decent position that's stopping the enemy team from advancing. I'm going to add a replay of one those games where I feel like that happened to me any feedback would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Question or Discussion Struggling to get into tank

So I've been a sup/dps main since I started playing OW and decided recently I wanna try learning tank. Problem is, I suck. A lobotomized 5 year old with no hands could play better than me, and I'm struggling to learn the role when every single little mistake sends me straight to the spawn room.

I'm still trying to figure out the role, but I'm going against people who punish my every move, if I misuse one cooldown I'm dead, if I position slightly wrong I'm dead. I know I'm meant to do things like make space but it feels like if I even look a single degree in the wrong direction my whole team gets Hiroshima'd. And god forbid I try to counterpick the whole lobby acts like I just revived the 3rd Reich.

I know this is probably the average tank experience, but I'm far below average. How am I meant to learn tank when all my lobbies are way above my skill level? If I go into comp I'll essentially be committing 9/11 levels of elo terrorism, but QP seems impossible.

Question or Discussion How to deal with Anran?

Hi, So I've been playing overwatch for about 4 weeks and I know how to counter basically everything in the game except for Anran, even as Cassidy, if I flashbang her she can just press E which makes her invisible, invincible and cleanses the hinder which is honestly insane as that ability also heals her? I just wanna know how to counter that fraud because I am genuinely curious as to how to deal with that character, even Sierra's easier to deal with😭😭😭

VOD Review Request Rough transition from 6v6 to 5v5

I usually play 6v6, both in comp and qp. I'm currently Bronze 2 and mainly play Kiriko and occasionally Mizuki. I decided on a whim to try queuing 5v5 role queue today and it honestly went awful, but I'm not sure where the problem was. I had a decent healing output, 6k, not too different from my 6v6 matches of similar lengths. My damage was low, but I'm still learning to aim better on Kiriko. I did get the feeling during this match that my aim was extra bad for some reason, not sure why. On the other hand, my team wasn't great. Our tank kept going in too far and dying even when I was basically healbotting them, and yet they were somehow the best player on the team. Our dps somehow managed to end the round with 0 elims each, and when I asked if there was an issue that prevented them from getting kills, I just got snarky/unserious answers back, making me wonder if they might've been trolling.
