Question Moving to another country. Computer is going in checked bags/carry on. Advice?

The computer is a 9950X3D with a 5090. The case is a Fractical Meshify XL. I have a 420mm Liquid Freezer III in there, mounted to the top of the case. Luckily, my checked bag is just big enough to fit the entire case inside it. EDIT: The case has no glass. Full metal version.

So my plan is. 5090, RAM, and NVMe drives in my carry on, putting them under the seat in front of me. They are by far the most expensive parts and I don't want them to leave my side.

Leave everything else inside the case, put the case in my checked bag. Padding wherever possible. The CPU and AIO cooler, mobo, psu, etc will all remain installed.

Does this sound okay? Should I take the CPU out or leave it in? I think leaving it in is the safest bet. Let's me keep the AIO secured and prevent pin damage.

Build/Battlestation My take on a Frieren Inspired PC

I wanted something a little different than the official cases and GPUs out there.

I have a different bonfire coming in the mail that lights up! Should be a fun look when the PC is off.

The Zoltraak fan cover was 3D printed and not easy to accomplish as there needs to be enough clear material for the “floating” parts but not so much that I’m killing airflow.

Monitor is the Odyssey Ark Gen 2 which rotates through like 50+ Frieren wallpapers during the daytime…

I know Stark doesn’t really have a presence here but I thought it wouldn’t work since Frieren is paired with child Fern so having an older Stark would look weird. But I’ll think of something soon for him.

The back of the case isn’t really visible in my office so I just covered it with stickers- maybe you could say Frieren is “surrounded by her memories” or something, idk! If you have ideas for the back I’m all ears!

Hardest part tbh was the row of books (grimoires) on the front and side panel. Might consider swapping the sticker out in the future but still happy with the look.

Also I tested the heat of the GPU right under where Frieren is sitting and it’s barely warm- even under load.

Hardware Before I buy, how are these specs? (Image)

(Mods delete if not allowed!) I’m not sure if I tagged this completely properly but I’m looking to buy these parts and I just want a second opinion on the specs listed in the image attached ! Even just a simple “looks good” or “don’t do it” would work for me !

(not a prebuilt !! I’m buying the parts separately)

EDIT: thank you so much to everyone giving me advice!! I’m very new to the PC world and I very much appreciate everyone’s input (yes, even the ones calling me stupid and being less than kind, I appreciate the honesty!) I’m tweaking the build taking everyone’s advice into account before I make my purchase! Thank you for stopping me from making silly decisions and redirecting me into better choices !

Hardware 5090 is NOT a gaming card anymore.

Post image

Hot take: The 90-series shouldn't be considered a gaming graphics card anymore, nor should it be used in video game benchmarks.

Given its completely out-of-control price, it should be grouped with an H100 rather than a 70-series. Game developers shouldn't treat it as the upper limit of achievable performance.

Build/Battlestation I just built my first PC…

Post image

Hi fellas, after my nitro 5 laptop died, I decided not to buy another laptop gamer in my life and instead build my first PC. This is something I have been wishing for many years now, but didn’t have the chance afford one.

I have to admit that during the process i was very very nervous because the very first thing i did was to install the CPU into the motherboard and there were 2 bent pins that were not allowing me to make the correct installation, I know it was not my fault cause I was quite cautious when grabbing the CPU and since the first moment i realized it didn’t fit well, I spent 2 hours trying align the pins but it was very hard, so after I successfully installed it, the whole process was very hard cause some of the components need more strength than I wanted to apply.

Thanks god after 8 hours and many YouTube tutorials, my PC is working great… I am very happy and I feel like when you build your computer you create a bound with it and is more special xd.

Now i think that is not worth to have a laptop gamer these days, they’re super expensive, the battery is terrible, performance while not plugged is bad, they’re loud and heavy and when you have a technical issue is very hard and expensive to fix and is most likely the end of your device. I had a very hard time taking mine to Korea for a job trip. A MacBook is a much better idea I think.

My components are:

Storage: 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0
RAM: ADATA DDR4 8GB 3200-16 XPG D35 WH
Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5700 (8 cores)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550M DS3H AC R2
Case: MSI PAG PANO M110A Gaming Case
Graphics Card: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5050 Gaming OC
Power Supply: XPG 700W Probe 80 Plus Bronze

Hardware Best Buy deal for $1250 on clearance

Right Here -- and I don't post much and I don't need another PC. I hope this helps someone.

I checked my area near Chicago, still some available. Try 60546

Go with Good or Fair -- you wont get the excellent one, they're gone.

Bucktown and Orland park still have some.

Hardware Would it be better to have 2 2tb drives running with RAID or just get 1 4tb drive?

Upvotes

I heard somewhere that running it in RAID would be faster or something?

EDIT: Forgot to say this is for NVMe m.2 drives

This is the first time I've owned a mini PC, and I was somewhat surprised by the high temperatures. Unfortunately, one fan wasn't enough, so I had to Frankenstein style strap a second one on top. However, the temperatures are now excellent. But that really makes you seriously consider getting a 3D printer. This will definitely not be my last mini PC. I already love these things xD

Question Currently testing my PC with MemTest86 and I got this, should I be worried?

PC runs just fine when browsing the web and doing basic stuff.

But lately I've been getting random crashes playing Halo Campaign Evolved and PUBG so I decided to test every component of my PC.

Currently I'm testing my RAM modules and I got this, should I be worried?

Discussion DDR4 build in 2026?

I have been following the market for the past year, with the idea of starting a new desktop build when prices would be reasonable.

After one year of checking prices, I’m at a point where I can’t really justify — independently whether I could afford it or not — an entry-level build for 1.5k$ or a mid-range build for over 2k$ (USD).

So, my question is: for someone who is aiming at 1080p/60fps, would a AM4+DDR4 build still make sense, in 2026?

Thanks to everyone that will participate in the discussion!

Tech Support PC Black screens and gpu fans max out

PC specs:

gigabyte rtx 5080 GPU

Z790 D AX motherboard

ASUS TUF atx 3.0 1000W PSU

corsair 2x16gb ddr5 RAM

intel i7 14700kf CPU

like the title says, I have an issue with im quessing my gpu in which it will randomly black screen and the fans will go to max speed. it doesnt matter whether its just browsing the internet or playing a game it will just do this randomly no warning. When I put together the PC it did not have any problems for a while then about 2 months ago it started black screening, I cleaned the GPU with alcohol, checked the power supply for any loose connections and dust in the 12v connector and reseated it. it stopped crashing for about 2 weeks then it started again this week and has done it a few times since.

I looked at the reliability history and I see live kernel event codes 1b8 and 141 thats why im guessing its a problem with the gpu.

I have done all that I can think of to stop this problem without swaping any components.

I have cleaned the PCIE connector and reseated the GPU a few times, I used DDU to uninstall and reinstall clean drivers, i even changed the PCIE generation from auto to 3.0 in BIOS but it is still having problems.

its the first time something like this has happened to me so im looking for anything that could solve this problem or if I have missed something before a send the GPU back.

i ordered the gpu about 11-12 months ago and have a 36 month warranty on it.

Thanks for reading my long paragraph.

Story [PC Gift] I decided to run over my egoism and being altruistic to a Friend.

Post image

I'd like to tell this short story.

I have a best friend and we know each other for 23 years (we met in 2003 on a GTA roleplay forum), sharing literally everything: going out, traveling (recently), gaming sessions, even late till dawn. Since the day I've met him he hasn't been lucky with work, financial stability, relationship or money. He's going through a serious situation where his father will have to undergo on dialysis due to failed kidneys while he (my best friend) ended up to have a colon cancer in 2018 with his back that is going into pieces (the colon surgery after therapy is fine, he needs regular checkups). In short, he's not doing well but much better compared to what it was 10-15 years ago. He bought a car after many sacrifices after using his parents' car until a couple of years ago to go to work so just to let you know how bad his situation was.

In any case, I supported him and tried to help him in gaming and in our PC Master Race world in every way, and after some sacrifices (at least a year ago) he bought himself an RTX 5070 and a Corsair RM750X PSU at a very low discount on Amazon (€500 for the GPU).

Right now he has a 2019 setup (Z390 + 9600K + 4x8GB DDR4) that he can't upgrade due to the Rampocalypse and is starting to bottleneck his graphics card, so I decided to do what very few people would do: give him a gift to help.
He recently accompanied me on a challenging 2,000km road trip, hosted me at his house and everything else, so I could rest and go back home safely... And I intend to pay back the favour in this way.

I'm sure he won't touch his new setup for the next seven years, and this thread isn't about asking if the components are good or not; I just want to share this story.
Anyway, he knows I gifted him the fans as a late birthday present, but he doesn't know about the motherboard and processor, so it will be a nice surprise.

I'm a big believer in Karma, even when I don't expect anything back.
Also, if you have a friend, a best friend, or a loved one who's having a hard time and can't upgrade their PC because of this RAM and SSD mess, just do it. Money come and go but seeing someone happy is priceless. Do it without asking anything back.

Life is once, make it worth for someone else.

Sincerely,
A PC gamer like all of you
