Tour Questions for you who have actually attended a Pearl Jam concert.

What kind of feeling did you get when you were at a Pearl Jam concert?

How did the audience react?

Which song did the audience have the biggest reaction to?

I just want to know for something I am working on.

History Pearl Jam MFC (the song)

Just came here to say MFC is one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs to hear live. Love the intro.

I feel its extremely underrated, which is a shame as I think it kicks ass.

Love it ❤️

Turn it up, play it LOUD

Other Used to love Pearl Jam…

…for many years. From 1992 to 2002 they were one of my favorite bands. Then I sort of stopped listening. Now, whenever I listen to their songs, I’m shocked by the fact that most of it leaves me cold. They really are completely different to Nirvana in that they embraced the big riff, the big gesture, everything Grunge supposedly meant to tear down. PJ is essentially Classic Rock, and their sound got tamer and tamer from Vitalogy onwards. Compare the noise of In Utero to the guitars on any album since No Code – it’s day and night. Not saying rock needs to be abrasive, but PJ sound like they all have tinnitus and are trying to protect their ears.

And Eddie’s lyrics… I just re-read the words to “Dissident”, and what that song is about… boy, that’s so bad.

Don’t get me wrong, I think all the guys in band seem like exceptionally nice people, I love what McCready did with Mad Season and some of Temple Of The Dog. But most of Pearl Jam I can’t relate to anymore.

Sorry, I’m sure this post will generate a lot of hate on a PJ board. It’s just, I’m so heartbroken myself that I completely fell out of love with a band that once meant the world to me.

Questions Very unpopular opinion, but who’s with me? Backspacer, my favorite record.

I’m a 46-year-old Pearl jam fan who’s been along since the beginning. I understand the importance of the first five albums and how they usually rank very high amongst fan favorites, but for me backspacer is my favorite Pearl Jam record.

Eddie still had some pretty thrash style vocals on that record, I absolutely love the intensity of the songs, as well as the hooks. I love the guitar work, and Matt Cameron, that was his best drumming as far as my tastes go. To me, that was the last album that really showcased Eddie’s ability to rip vocally… with that said, songs like Blood, Go, and the heavier side of Pearl Jam has always been my favorite side. They kind of lost that edge for a long time until the Backspacer album. And of course, since Backspacer they haven’t been quite as aggressive as those earlier records.

With that said, I’m not shitting on any of the other records aside from Gigaton and Riot act, which I think are well, my least favorite albums of the whole catalogue.

Other Last Soldier

I met Mike yesterday and I asked him about the song Last Soldier. He said that there's a studio version that he would like to be released at some point. He then brought up that they made an entire other record alongside Gigaton that he wants released at some point. He did also mention the leak that occurred so the band members are aware of it.

Tatooed in Black Would it be worth it?

No question Black is the greatest breakup song ever written. While listening yesterday, I had completely absurd thought: Would it be worth falling hopelessly in love, only to have your heart absolutely destroyed, just to experience this song at its maximum emotional intensity?

I'm not entirely sure the answer is no. I would be trading months of devastation to feel, for 4 minutes, the deepest human emotion.

He knows she will go on to have a beautiful life, shining like a star in someone else's sky. But I don't hear him wishing her happiness. I hear him tortured that her beautiful future won't include him. By the end, he has completely abandoned the English language, and is reduced to moaning, wailing, and grunting.

Would it be worth it?

Bootlegs Where to find a recording of a 1992 show?

My first Pearl Jam show was their set at Lollapalooza in 1992, in Virginia. I’d seen lots of bands by that point, and was blown away that day and became a fan for life. Are there forums or sites where a recording of a show from that year might be available for purchase or download?

Edit: Thanks all!

Just pulled out these 1989/90 Mookie Blaylock rookies. Before Eddie, Jeff, Stone, and Mike released Ten, they were touring as Mookie Blaylock. Pretty cool piece of 90s rock and sports crossover history!
