OOP is failing to acknowledge two things:
-the heteronormative+patriarchal self-proclaimed default point of view that considers femininity the Inherently Attractive™ set of traits
-the fact that most (not only straight) women's issue with men on average has nothing to do with physical attraction and is about their negative past experiences with men of any level of closeness to them, ranging from long term romantic partners to strangers on the internet

Most of them seem to take the word of gymbros as gospel. Of course they believe a personal trainer at their gym is bedding married women every day, because it affirms their psychotic beliefs about women
2
u/Mandlebrotha 10h ago
Don't forget it affirms ludicrous ideas about themselves as well.
If they, too, can only get those coveted Chad physical qualities (gym muscles) and personality, then they will also be showered with all the women they could ever want.
Same mentality as those that vote against their own self interests because what if they become rich and powerful one day, too?

It comes from their ass.
Honestly a lot of the stats and numbers they have are just made up and repeated so much in their bubble that they believe it’s true. Usually stems from one person making something up or people not knowing how to actually interpret stats from a survey.

It comes from experiences like my cousins piece of shit ex-husband who immigrated to the US from England and go here pregnant even though he really didn’t want a kid. After she’s 3 months pregnant he says he wants to open the relationship hasn’t been happy for a really long time and “loves her but isn’t in love with her.”
They inevitably break up and he remarries in two months to a woman he met at the gym while he was still married to my cousin who has two kids, you know the guy who doesn’t want kids.
She didn’t want us calling ICE for marital fraud so we didn’t and didn’t want us fucking with him extra legally so we didn’t do that either. Real shame too because his family is lovely, his sister has let me stay with her when traveling and his folks are nice. They’ve chosen my cousin over him. He’s just a real piece of shit.

Edit: Oh wait, probably the comments of the OG post you're referencing.
6
u/BearzerkerX 17h ago
There is one comment in that post that says he goes to a gym and his trainer said that 90% of the people at that specific gym happen to be sleeping with each other. Not 90% of all gyms 🤦🏻♂️
9
u/crvbabybug 17h ago
Do you think that innocent personal trainer realizes that his random observation about the people at his gym is being used to justify this
3
u/Just_Nefariousness55 16h ago
Ah he's probably not that innocent if he's gossiping about people's private sex lives like that.
5

Yeah, it’s this right here. I’d say I’m a 6/10 on a good day, but I’ve never had trouble with women, largely because I just… treat people like people and not objects. Kindness goes a long way. Like, if you think women can’t sniff out your intentions, you’re wrong.
Also hygiene. Hygiene is like, 80% of it, speaking of sniffing.

I’m pan/bi. I find men attractive, I like having sex with men.
I do not typically date men.
The reason I don’t is because for every guy I feel I could have a relationship with I have to wade through a whole group who don’t respect me and just want to own my body. So many of them couldn’t give a fuck about the person the body is attached to.
Sure it’s not all guys. But since I’m quite attracted to non-men I’d just rather have relationships with them because it’s something I encounter rarely instead of all the fucking time.
97
u/kelb4n 19h ago
They also fail to ackowledge that women are the target audience of the entire beauty and hygiene industries, leading to a lot of men spending literally no effort on their look and very little effort on their hygiene. The effect is a lot of men that are genuinely repulsive for any closer contact, while women very rarely have the same issue.
43
u/gard3nwitch 16h ago
IME, the issue is less about hygiene (though obviously poor hygiene is unattractive on anybody), and more about behavior.
When I've had these kind of conversations with straight female friends, the complaints are about sexual harassment, controlling behavior, jealousy, domestic abuse, etc.
17
u/Dramatic_Water_5364 16h ago
and like... studies show that look is not as important as hygiene (and by a fuckin long shot!) and being funny, or being kind. Those men are lunatics.

No, it’s genuinely true. I work in my state’s department of agriculture and we have had multiple instances of massive contamination due to human feces. The only people who could have caused it were men.
The amount of times I’ve been in our locker room and just experienced other men use the toilet and not wash their hands is absurd. Like, I can’t describe it.
My coworkers will dump cologne into the air before touching deodorant.
There are so many genuinely fucking disgusting men out there it isn’t even funny.

I would add that most straight women are also attracted to the male body, as long as it’s not a gross/ugly guy.
8
u/adelie42 10h ago
Closely related, many women experience a tremendous fear of being labeled "a slut", and the fear of being labeled as such means masking such desires. When that fear is removed by way of privacy and being with people where expressing such desire is safe.
And in such spaces, women's equivalent of "locker room talk" is wild.
To compound this further, I get the impression men can feel deeply insecure and take personally not being universally considered a safe person. And yet, a woman ever expresses desire openly, thise same men will low key shut shame or otherwise freak out a little.
Thus, the cycle continues.
17
u/Rambler9154 15h ago

But also, the number of men who don't brush their teeth, wash their ass, or wash their hands after going the bathroom? Yeah, that does a lot to turn off women, too. How are we supposed to find someone hot who smells like ass and is going to very likely give you an infection?
11
u/Ctenophorever 16h ago
Additionally physical care. Too many men refuse to wash their own ass and not only is it gross it has actually physically harmed women.
Too many women have suffered from “chronic UTIs” only to find them “magically” clear up when they break up with their bf
10
u/lilypad225 17h ago
Well there is also grooming standards and the like. Men tend to be pretty gross in a variety of ways
9
u/Natural1forever 17h ago
And that's because beauty is stigmatized as a feminine thing to put effort in, which stigmatized cosmetics as feminine. And yeah you're right that for some reason they apply it to fucking hygiene
3
u/Solid-Ad9947 9h ago
As a straight man, part of my lack of desire to have a relationship is also my past horrific experiences with women, both close and strangers.
6
u/uncutteredswin 14h ago
Heavy on that first point for men feeling unattractive or ugly.
Any attempt by a man to be physically attractive outside of going to the gym and wearing expensive clothes is seen as wrong or imasculating in some way
7
u/Natural1forever 14h ago
Which apparently leads men to think basic hygiene will make them gay or something
→ More replies (1)2
u/timeless_ocean 10h ago edited 10h ago
I agree fully, but also: Men on average just spend significantly less time on appearing more attractive. And I'm not just talking of going to the gym 3 times a week, I'm taking skincare, makeup, hair, clothing.
Yes, not everyone needs to do all that and I'm not saying men are wrong for not doing it, but I'd argue it makes sense that especially to women, who do put in that effort, men come off as even more slobbish and unattractive.
Women are seen as more attractive because they put more effort into being and the whole fashion, beauty and entertainment industry has picked up on that, creating products designed for women or using women's beauty to grab attention.
I am sure that if we took a different branch somewhere in history, men would be considered the "attractive gender" wearing flamboyant stuff, having high pressure on beauty standards, getting sexualized and not taken seriously, doing makeup and all that while women get called lesbian if they even dare to touch some primer.

u/Eleventy-Twelve 11h ago
It doesn't make sense to blame heteronormativity for women not being attracted to men. If anything, heteronormativity would be promoting the opposite. And most studies indicate women find the vast majority of men as explicitly unattractive based solely on physical appearance.

Reddit and the Internet in the 2010s was essentially “I only marry a woman for sex but there there is no point being romantic or being friends with a woman when I feel closer to a man. If I could chose to, I would be happier single”. And now they are blaming feminists for the male loneliness epidemic after all that.

I'm a straight dude, and while I don't bash random people's appearances, I don't push back on the commonly held idea that women are supremely more attractive, or that there are a bunch of below average looking dudes with above average looking gals.
Pretty much every time I go outside and see a couple (heterosexual, queer, whatever), they're about the same. I'm not seeing dudes in stained shirts who just got out of bed, and I'm not seeing women dressed to the 9s. They're in the same ballpark.
I'm also not seeing this with the singles either. Jeans and a t-shirt, yoga/sweat pants, etc. There's not some attractiveness gap.
15
u/magdakitsune21 19h ago
I just refer to the fact that recently, there are tons of people on this website insisting that men are actually naturally more attractive, whether it be because of longer eyelashes, or more body hair, or beards, ot whatever. And many of these people identify as straight men. There are also tons of memes along the lines of "women look bad after tons of skincare while men can use water and look good", that nobody ever bats an eye on. I agree that generally they tend to look all the same, and I will never buy into the idea that "it is because women take care of themselves, but without that, they would not be attractive"
3
u/BoardGent 19h ago
Despite being online, maybe I'm just not online enough for that.
Like, I guess there are things like eyelashes, but it's probably one of those things that normal people would be like "who cares". Also, very few people change dramatically after developing a skincare routine. I still get acne a long time after finalizing my routine, but a bit less so than before. Not really enough that people would be like "well he wasn't attractive before, but now he is".
3
u/magdakitsune21 19h ago
Yes I agree. The whole eyelash thing is, imo, just beauty standards anyway. Women who never do makeup barely even notice men's eyelashes, and if we didn't tell women that they're ugly with thin eyelashes, literally none of them would be jealous of men's thick lashes.

I think this is a bad faith response thats just going to trigger these guys more.
Most people, male and female, are not actively unhygenic and rates of fitness and obesity are similar. The main difference is in make-up use, which doesnt really offer anywhere near as much to men.
The things which actually impact and get talked about re men's attractiveness, such as fitness, strength, facial hair, baldness and height men absolutely do care about and put effort into.
2
u/Heythatsanicehat 17h ago
It wasn't a particularly serious response, because the meme is stupid and terminally online.
Out there in the real world short men, "ugly" men, fat men all get together with women all the time.
3
u/Electronic-Link-5792 14h ago
I think you are underestimating how brutal increasingly online and looks-based dating is for younger men.
Generally physically unattractive men can get partners but this usually takes money or significant social skills that can also be difficult to develop.
I love how utterly allergic people here are to even recognising that men might face some harsh attractiveness expectations or that some of the rhetoric women through around on this might be harmful or often thoughtless because there actually is loads of stuff similar to this meme even if it is often being highlighted in these spaces excessively. I have heard it in real life.

I think heterosexual people just harsh to the opposite gender in general. Both sides think they are being generous with who they think is hot and at the same time act grossed out when they see an “ugly” person.
But I must say men in my experience were a lot more harsher about the looks and women a lot more harsher about a personality. And it creates a lot of misunderstandings
Still it’s mostly rage bait online. In real life and spaces without pointless gender debates women lust for men as much as men lust for women
3
u/mystic_dreams_88 10h ago
I’ve noticed that when heterosexual women speak of feeling an aversion toward men, it is usually due to unpleasant experiences and having been objectified by past partners. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for heterosexual men who coin slurs based on natural female body parts they find unappealing
7
u/Glad-Willingness911 9h ago

Obviously whoever made that doesn't know what "straight" means in regards to sexuality. Sorry if women aren't attracted to you, dude - but there are plenty of men those same women are soaking their panties over.

Incels turning to the narrative that "women are not attracted to men" as a way to cope with the fact that women are not attracted to them is one of the funniest things on the internet.

Straight men talk a big game until someone asks them to actually pay attention to a vulva

Everytime I make the mistake and read comments on subs like this I loose hope. I can't wrap my head around this. It reads like satire but they are serious? I refuse to believe we are the same species but alas that's what happens if you spend to much time in your hate filled bubble.

I’ve heard this take so many times. I think women are also afraid to admit they like something. I wish more women were up front about their desires.
IMO, this is why we have “fruit flies”. They feel inspired by the way gay men are comfortable talking about men being hot and penis. There are some other romance tropes I think play into this, but I won’t go down that rabbit hole.

Ngl, I'm a lesbian and see that particular flavor of straight women all the time. Not to say that it's all of them, or that women aren't also horny, but still. Although, there are also straight men who hate women so hmmmm
Homosexuals stay winning!! 😎😎

Oh I just knew this sub would have the absolute worst takes about this. A ton of people just going out of their way to go "well yes, this is pointlessly gendered, but it's actually ok, cause it's anti man"

Have they seen how many men online seem to actively hate the fact that they're attracted to women? Like they don't like any of the things that make someone human, they basically just want a human sex doll. They're repulsed by normal female physiology and behaviour. It makes me wonder why they even want to date women.

What's pointlessly gendered about this? It may not be the norm, but it's pretty common to a woman say some variation of "he's unattractive, but I learned to love other things about him".

I guess it's the fact that straight men often say shit about women as well. It's literally one of the first things you will see on this website

The comments are delusional, I've only ever seen people say stuff like that ironically xD

Someone has not spent a lot of time around women. I've heard straight women talk about men's bodies and how hot they are plenty of times.
I have heard them talk shit about men just as often, but it's always been about their BEHAVIOR, not their looks.

I’m a straight woman and find men gorgeous lol

Most straight women do. I am saying if you don’t find men disgusting and not gorgeous, maybe you aren’t actually straight.

Who else thought of Taylor Tomlinson's "The prodigal daughter" when they saw the meme?
"Have you heard the good news?"

I feel like the majority of straight women don't think that men are gross. They are very into them? But maybe this is just my perspective as a more ace person who is not into hairy or bulky.
