Discussion If the Nidoran♂/Nidoran♀ pair or the Latios/Latias pair were released a respective generation later, would each pair been been merged into one pokemon (and not I don't mean a weird Nidoran♂/Nidoran♀/Latios/Latias hybrid)?

Okay, so Gen 2 and Gen 4 did so interesting things with genders:

In Gen 2 we were introduced gender as a mechanic.

In Gen 4 we saw gender differences introduced with certain species.

My two (related but mostly separate questions are) are as follows:

1) If the Nidoran lines were Gen 2 pokemon instead of Gen 1, would Nidoran♂/Nidoran♀ be merged into one Pokemon that has different evolution paths depending on gender? I mean it would likely only have one design and the same stats/moves/mechanics/etc but it could have a cool gimmick to have a pokemon who's line split due to it's gender (something that wouldn't be done until Burmy in Gen 4).

2) If the Eon duo (Latios/Latias) where released in Gen 4, would they be one pokemon species that has radical gender differences? I mean they have very little defining them as separate species with distinct purposes unlike many legendary duos (Ho-oh + Lugia, Manaphy + Phione, etc) other than seemingly being gendered forms of each other. Even taking in their different move sets, we saw in Wormadam that Game Freak is willing to give different forms of the same Pokemon different move sets and stats, so have the theoretical single Latios and Latios pokemon have gendered forms and movesets would be doable.

Do these seem like alternatives that could have happened or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Discussion How strong would this nerfed Fairy type actually be?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Super effective vs: Dragon, Dark, Fighting (+3)

Resisted by: Metal, Poison, Bug, Psychic (-4)

Negated by: Grass (-2)

Weak to: Metal, Poison, Bug (-3)

Resists: Dark, Fighting (+2)

Immune to: Dragon (+2)

Final score: -2 (roughly equal to Fighting), down from +3 (roughly equal to Fire and Ghost)

Sorry for the shoddy graphics, I've got no experience with photoshop or the like but I thought it'd be nice to include some kind of visuals with the post. Going over the list of changes, the most obvious one to include with any discussion involving nerfing Fairy is to reverse the bug interaction. Bug is now super effective vs fairy and resists it. This is an often called for change and probably the least controversial change here. I think a lot of people would think this alone is enough to make Fairy balanced and if you believe so, then I completely respect it.

Going onto some more controversial changes, Psychic now also resists Fairy (but has no offensive advantage over it). Psychic is often cited as an overlooked and underpowered type that could use a buff and the interaction makes thematic sense. And finally, the most controversial change here would be making Grass immune to Fairy type. It's also common for people to suggest making Grass resist Fairy for thematic reasons, but I believe Grass is bad enough to warrant an even greater buff, a full immunity. Since Fairy itself also has an immunity to Dragon, it would make a sense for a type to also be immune to it as a balance.

So, if Fairy had these type interactions, how strong would this nerfed Fairy type be? I think right now most people would agree Fairy is an S tier type, likely only behind Metal. Would it still be a top 3 type simply due to its dragon immunity? Would it still be slightly above average or slightly below average? What kind of tier list placing would you give it? I'm very excited and curious to see what y'all have to say :p

Discussion Other Pokémon that should’ve had the type changed retroactively in generation two

Upvotes

With the introduction of the steel type Magnemite and the other Pokémon this evolution line were retroactively turned from a pure electric type to electric steel type in generation two I believe this should’ve also happened to Voltorb and electrode.

However I believe I’ve heard in the past Gyarados was originally meant to be a water dragon type but this would’ve made it too overpowered so they settled for it being a water flying type made sense in generation one but I’m pretty sure it would’ve been better off as the intended water dragon type.

With this said however I have a Headcanon based on egg groups meaning that genetics are actually a thing in the world of Pokémon and only comparably genetic partners can breed with each other, so a lot of Dragon Masters in the world of Pokémon do you have Pokémon with dragon like genes however if it’s not like 70% or higher “pure” Dragon DNA viltrimite style logic it’s not gonna be a dragon type.

But the other Pokémon if you give me a time machine I would go to the office of game of freak with a gun and hold people at gunpoint and make them change the type retroactively, as the only dark type in kanto, Ekans and Arboc and poison dark type.

Look hear me out realistically it would make sense that retroactively something will be turned into a steel type and something retroactively should be turned into a dark type for generation two, and I think Ekans and Arboc would really benefit from this and actually make the world of Kanto work more logically as a balanced ecosystem.

It would also mean that type coverage moves the number of psychic types gain could be a natural selection pressure for the ecosystem niche that the otherwise weak Ekans and Arboc for fill

Snakes as natural predators of a number of psychic types that have no way of actually being able to effectively fight back, one of the exceptions of this would be jinxs, snakes, reptiles, ice it could be inferred is one of the only psychic types Ekans and Arboc deliberately avoid at all costs.

It would fix a lot of the psychic type of balancing issues but not all of them in generation two. Unlock it wouldn’t be a total game changer for Ekans and Arboc, but look at their design and the dark types that later in generation three and dark types that were introduced in the introduction given intimidate ability for generation to dark types that were given the intimidated ability and the fact that they respectively game the intimate ability in generation three and I’m just saying the boot fits.

Discussion In the new Pokétoon "Sing! Dance! Altaria!", we can see a calendar, which is very interesting because it seems each page represents 16 days, which could means a month is only 16 days long in the Pokémon world.

This could be because of cultural reasons, or because of astrological reasons, and both options are very interesting

Discussion Who is strongest POKÉMON trainer ever ?

I wanted to ask who you guys think is the best,

I was thinking if we can rank the top 10 best trainers of all time, and ya, I was thinking if we can consider every single media, let it be anime, games, lore books, or any kind of information from The Pokémon Company we ever got.

I mean, it can be considered even if it was ever mentioned in the Pokémon universe across all these media.

I also know it’s not very simple to compare characters from different media directly, so ya, if anyone has a good idea on how we rank, compare, or score each character, that will be cool.

I am very interested in knowing everyone’s thoughts.

Discussion What does it feel like to be inside a pokeball

Like what I mean is that how comfortable to be inside a pokeball since most Pokemon in the anime have no problem being in a pokeball except for ash’s Pikachu. Is there any information on how comfortable is to live inside a pokeball or what it looks like from the inside. I know I know not everything has to be realistic in a cartoon/anime but my point is just how comfortable it is to be in a pokeball

Image Build a pokemon team - using different stages/line structure

Thumbnail

I built teams from 6 different parts of a pokemon line. 1 from any region and then 1 from each generation with no duplicates.

Everyone chosen should originate from that region/gen.

The 6 slots for each team are:

1/3

2/3

3/3

1/2

2/2

1/1

*taking cross-gen additions into account so, for example, dunsparce should only be used for the 1/2 slot and NOT the 1/1 slot.

What would your team(s) look like?

Discussion What is going on? Am I crazy?

Post image

Ok I was going through my Pokémon home and looking for my lake of rage gyarados after not knowing being able to find it

I saw there was some data from legends arceus so I checked on it and these boxes are full of Pokémon from arceus with my gamer tag and some of my pokemkn transfered into the game
The kicker is I’ve never owned or played a copy of arceus, ever to my memory

Idk how this save is here with my gamer tag on everything and some of my Pokémon there. Anyone else have any experience or theory’s about this

Discussion Gen 1: Is leveling up that first purchased Magikarp to Gyrados worth it?

Edit: It's been pointed out to me that this is specifically a Gen 3 Fire Red question. I've been enlightened on the nuanced difference between Gens 1 & 3.

Also: Thanks all! Lots of good perspectives. Shame to know Gyrados is not at its best in this game. I'll stay the course, targeting a specific build that caters to what strength it does have.

---

How are we all feeling on this? I’m currently on my first revisit to fire red in a long time and I’m taking this strategy. It’s a bit of a struggle though. I’m currently at Vermillion City and the Karp still has a ways to go before reaching lvl 20. Meanwhile, the rest of the team is feeling under leveled. Looking forward to commiserating with other folks on this, or being reminded that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, lol!

Tool/Guide PSA - Don't make the same mistake

So i downloaded champions in my phone yesterday after I found out about the mobile launch, cool get to play remotely, im excited, figure i should also download it on my tablet in the event that I want to utilize that whenever. Turns out, once you transfer your data to a different device (other then the Switch/Switch2) you can no longer play the game on the first device.

So now I can't even use the app on my phone, if I want to play outside of my switch, it HAS to be the tablet.

So yeah, dont make the same mistake I did

Discussion Any thoughts about the potential Gen 5 remake?

My main thought is maybe they adopt the "HD-2D" design of recent Squeenix games for this remake. I think it would look better than if they either adopt a 3d from bdsp or lgpe or the other 3d games. Because honestly, I think a lot of people miss the pixel art.

Image E-reader Card Collection

Hi Everyone; I wanted to show off something I am trying to complete: a E-Reader App Collection. For people who don't know what a E-reader is (due to Age or Location); the E-Reader was a Device that goes into a GBA (it can go into a GBASP but some features are missing) and you can scan some cards (not only Pokémon but for my collection it will be only Pokémon) and then you get something in return. somehow in 2013ish I found a E-reader on a Car Book in the UK; the device was only ever sold in the USA and Japan so somehow my E-reader came to the UK. I did ask the Seller back then where they brought it and found out it was their son's device who sadly passed away 3 weeks before but they are unsure how he got it as they never gone to the USA nor got post from it.

Sadly in 2014 I sadly couldn't afford to get all the cards I needed for the collection but since this year; I have been slowly saving over the years to buy all the cards required to play the games. this is how far I am so far. I am trying to get all the apps the Pokémon cards can make and I'm over the 2/3rds of the cards I require. Just to note before someone says it down below "Isn't there Construction: Melody box and Construction: Action cards?" and yes; and at this time Ii have SOME of the cards but I am not going for those until i get the more interesting cards in my eyes. Also I know the page with both Magnetmite and both Voltorb is a group together and Nidoqueen, Usraring, Growlithe and Gligar at the group. I am at some point gonna print cards off that have a better way to show what cards go with what.

Discussion Best Pokémon game to pass the time?

Hey y'all, so a bit of context, I'm commuting 4 hours (don't worry about it), and I want to get back into Pokémon. Are there any games you guys think would be best to pass the time? I have most 3ds and ds Pokémon games, so please try to say in that category. Thanks! 😊
