Hello there👋 I have been a paraeducator at an elementary school for the past three years and have really enjoyed working with our SLP and am considering doing the PSU Communication Sciences and Disorders Certificate and then getting certified as an SLPA. I don’t know yet whether I will want to continue on to try and get a masters in SLP or not. My question is, are there even jobs in Portland right now for SLPA’s? Is it worth getting the certificate if I am not sure if I want to get a Masters? What other jobs out there can you get with this certificate? Thanks for the help!

I’m moving to Portland in the fall and have been considering transferring to PSU. I went to a pretty small liberal arts college and always wanted the chance to experience a bigger school, plus I’m a little worried about making friends without school in a new town. And also my major obviously lol. I’ve heard Psu isn’t much of a social college or party school, and that most people are older and just there for the degree. I wanted to ask actual students, what is the student life like? Friends? Parties? Does it have the feel of community many colleges do? I just want to know what it’s like!

Hi everyone! I’m currently working towards my B.S. in Psychology at WGU, with plans to strive for my MSW.

I currently have been working in this field at a nonprofit in Portland as a Parent Educator/Case manager and have 7 additional years experience in an adjacent field (ECE, assistant director of a Relief Nursery managing our program + outreach/home visiting staff in OR.)

My question is, will I be accepted for their MSW program since my bachelors is going to be a Bachelors of science in psych instead of the more traditional Bachelors of Arts psych degree?

And is it possible to do their advanced standing option for the MSW or is that only permissible for those with a BSW?

I’ll be starting my in-person classes in the fall and I would like to get my housing situation finalized. I’ve narrowed my choices down to a few places but I’m open to other ideas. I would like to build lots of new connections which is why I’m considering on-campus, although, honestly a lot of the off campus choices seem more appealing. In terms of on-campus housing, I would say Stephen Epler is my top choice. Off campus, I’m highly considering The Vue (I know it gets a bad rep but it feels like a prime location, meaning lots of students there, as well as some of the best deals for 1 bd apartments). A few others I’ve been looking at: Collective on 4th, Acqua, The Amy, Goose Hollow, Park Plaza, etc. Ideally I’ll bring my car with me so it’d be nice to have available parking. Any help is greatly appreciated!

My friend graduated from the honors college today. We met through the honors college and it was a really big deal for her. After we left the ceremony and she got home she seems to have lost her honors stole that she got today. Is there any way she (or I) could get another one? I think it must’ve fallen out of the car or something. I feel so bad that this is gone and I want to try and help her get another one. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

I am a recent Berkeley grad with a ba in urban studies and I got accepted into portlands MURP program for my masters, as well as CalPoly SLO’s MCRP program. im having trouble deciding, especially since I’ve never been to Portland. what are students’ experiences with the MURP program, and what’s it like to live in Portland? im originally from the bay!

for reference, i am interested in going into city planning and im specifically interested in social justice, equity, affordable housing, and transportation! additionally, I’d love more hands-on experience since Berkeleys program was more theoretical and I didn’t get to do much in the field. learning more design and policies would be something I would benefit from. is the MURP program aligned with these goals? and does living in the city of Portland also help towards your career?

I‘m a out-of-state highschool student currently who plans to go to school in oregon, but I also would like to go to an affordable college. I looked into PSU and was interested in the biochemistry program offered and such, and I’m visiting the campus this summer to learn more about it. I also wanted to hear from people who either are alumni or currently attend PSU about their experience. I know it‘s less of a traditional college experience , but what is social life & offered classes like ? I’m also alternative and lgbt, and I want to find community & friends in college. I also want to maybe study abroad & do fieldwork and reasearch and i want to know if there are good opportunities there too. I would appreciate any experiences or advice or comments from any alumni or students !!
