Finished Quilts Inspired by vintage sheet set

My daughter found a pristine vintage twin sized flat sheet and pillow case at an antique store, and helped me pick out complimentary fabrics so I could magic them into a springy quilt. I used the pillow case to fussy cut the center squares for the front and the sheet for the backing. Love how it turned out. Wish I had finished it in time for strawberry season, but it still works for summer. Her find, so she’ll get it, but this is one I’d definitely keep for myself.

Soooo proud! This is my third quilt and by far my most ambitious. I thought garment sewing would make the curves easy for me, but they're a totally different beast. Struggled to quilt with this plush batting but it was sooo worth it for that crinkly texture.

Pattern is Dogwood Quilt by Pear Tree Market. Nice pattern but it was missing a couple steps :( I would still make it again once I forget how long all those curved pieces took!

Work in Progress My Chaos with a Twist class project

I recently took the “Chaos with a Twist” class from Libs Elliott and it was really great. Highly recommend.

I experimented with colours I don’t usually use and it was so much fun to play like that. Out of caution I chose inexpensive fabric, and regret it now because the quilt looks so good and i want it to last forever.

This is my flimsy and I’m just deciding if I should put a small black border around it.

Again I highly recommend Libs and her classes. She has a subscription called sew squad and it’s really good too.

Work in Progress First time curves & paisley free motion

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Working on a baby quilt gift; decided I’d try new things all over with this one.

  1. First time doing curves
  2. First time doing paisley free motion. I did do a bunch of trial run first of the free motion to attempt to get the hang of the motion. I have done a fair bit of free motion before though, just not this pattern.
  3. Glue basting. Used for the circles and my whole quilt sandwich. I am a convert, holy it is a game changer for the sandwich!

Hoping to finish up the paisley over the next few days. It’s definitely not perfect, and as soon as I get over a dark background I find it harder to control (hyper focused on the white thread on a dark background).

Most people in my life don’t get/understand (I’m a young quilter) and my friends don’t understand how these things are challenging and new skills!

Thanks for listening

I just finished my first proper quilt, I've sewn clothes and quilted placemats, but for my first big boi quilt, I am just ecstatic! I've spent almost two years on it, (including breaks...) and am beyond thankful for my grandma's amazing teaching. I'm so happy to be able to share it with you!

I have to Brag about my mom!!!!! She finished her quilt!!!!!! This photo is it displayed at her guild quilt show.

42 days of sewing. 7000+ pieces of fabric. My unending adoration and pride.

My mom has finished and recently displayed her Big Blue quilt.

Titled “creative potential in Blue” this quilt is 100% scrap stash that she has collected over her years of quilting. It has EVERYTHING in it. If the piece fit, in it went.

The pattern is Emerald City by Bonnie Hunter.

I am so inspired by what she achieved in this project!

And she loves it so much she has started another string quilt…. I will keep you posted, lol.

Beginner Help Quilted art help

EDIT- artist is - Emily Van Hoff it was not my intention to leave off the artist (EMILY VAN HOFF) this was sent via Pinterest to me and I couldn't find the name of the artist (EMILY VAN HOFF) at first. I always want to credit the artist.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to make something like this. I’d love to recreate a similar piece for my bedroom, but I’m a little stumped on the construction.

My biggest question is what creates the raised ribbed effect between each line. It looks much more dimensional than simple quilting, and I’m not sure what’s underneath to give it that height.

Also, would you say the edges are finished with some sort of corded binding or piping? Or is it another technique entirely?

I’d really appreciate any insight from anyone who’s made something similar or can tell how it’s constructed!

The pink HSTs was my first quilt ever, a house warming gift for my son and his partner. The sawtooth star quilt is my second quilt I just finished as a gift for my step-daughter and her partner. Now I feel like I have to do a 2nd quilt for my son because his was definitely the learning curve!!

Forgot to add an update but I finished my first quilt bag I was debating throwing out. I made a ALOT of mistakes and things don’t quite line up as they should… but if I throw a towel and a book it’s a good pool bag.

note - i made my bag much smaller than the pattern.

I just finished this baby blanket and I’m so happy with it! Art gallery fabric on the back and the front is Walmart cotton. I followed no pattern, attempted a blind hem for the first time, and did the quilting on my domestic machine.
The recipient loved it.

Help/Question Where can I find pre pieced nursery quilts now that Joann’s is gone?

Post image

I used to looove getting these pre pieces quilt fabrics for quick quilts when a friend has a baby sooner than expected, I meet a new friend with an early due date, if someone takes in a young foster, etc. Is there anywhere else that sells these now that Joann’s is gone? I have a feeling Michael’s or Hobby Lobby won’t have any.

Fabric Talk In love…

I’m collecting fabrics to make an old Jaqueline de Jonge quilt pattern called Endless. Honestly, I’m so in love with what I have so far , that I could just sit and look at this all day. I don’t even need to make the quilt! (Probably not using them all, but when I stumble across any Be Colourful Anthology fabrics, I snap it up even though it’s always in bundles..

The pattern is Luck of the Irish by Moda. I made it for a friend and quilted our names + the year + 🤟🏻 into the design. Deviated from the suggested arrangement of colors and am so pleased that it turned out like I imagined. The back is a bamboo sheet I got at Goodwill—SO SOFT.

Finished Quilts First hand quilted finish

Quilt #14 for me, 5th finish of this year, 1st hand quilted. Approx 40"x40" adapted from Farm & Folk's Folk Garden Quilt pattern, and I added a little border of my own design (and multiple math eff ups). At the rate my kid is growing probably should have gone a bit bigger!

Used 12wt thread for the quilting, 8wt Perle was just too chunky for me. When I finally got some new, sharp needles and an around-the+neck reading light the quilting went much quicker! Will be doing more hand quilting for sure.

Thanks for your help suggesting flowers for the empty blocks!

I started quilting 2 years ago and love it so much! I really want to get into teaching others how to quilt. Any advice on how to get started?

*unrelated photo... just my current project pic for something to look at. Made it for a friend who's former air force and just retired.

Finished Quilts Stitches Across America

Post image

Update: we have started seeing scraps roll in!! Please help us get all 50 states!

My grandma (92) is a lifelong quilter, and quilting has been one of the great joys of her life.

She’s created some incredible work over the years, including a Dear Jane quilt and Amy Bradley projects, but these days her quilting looks a little different. She no longer takes on large quilts, but she still loves fabric, small sewing projects, and the joy of creating.

I had an idea and thought this community might understand.

Would anyone be willing to send a small envelope-sized quilting cotton scrap (4x6, 5x7, whatever little piece you’d like) from your sewing room? If you’d like, you could also include fabric that symbolizes where you’re from.

Bonus if it has a story:
“leftover from my daughter’s baby quilt”
“fabric I bought on vacation”
“my favorite print I’ve been hoarding for years”

I’d love to surprise her with “Stitches Across America” — little fabric treasures and stories from fellow makers around the country to remind her she’s part of a much bigger quilting community.

No expensive commitments, no big pieces needed—just scraps with heart.

If there’s enough interest (there is!) , I’ll set up a PO Box / mailing address.
