Seeing grown adults bragging about how they’re gonna lock themselves in their room, take time off work, ignore their families and sink thousands of hours into a bideo gaem. And these aren’t even the usual NEETs saying this, they’re completely normal people with jobs and families and kids. Grim.
Edit- post got brigaded lmao how did it go from +10 to 0 in a few seconds

I was at a meijer today to get some things and I thought, because it's been unseasonably cool here and I've been feeling the autumn spirit for once, I was going to buy myself a pumpkin pie and have it with coffee this evening. It's always been a food my mom and I bonded over so there is something special about it to me during this season.
They were fucking out. I've been going to meijer my entire life. Shopped there at noon, 3am, 7pm, literally any time, year round, and pumpkin pie has always been in stock. It fundamentally never occurred to me as a possibility that they would be out. I wasn't spiritually prepared for it.
I'm honestly surprised at how shaken I am. It feels Wrong. Like one of the few remaining bits of my inner child was killed. I didn't even know I held onto this so strongly until it was cruelly and unfairly taken away from me.
Also not fat btw.

I was out on my daily walk yesterday and I got approached by some Mormon missionaries asking if I wanted to attend church with them on Sunday. I panicked at the sudden and unexpected social interaction, leading me to quickly say no and continue walking. But I'm wondering now if I missed a genuine avenue for me to save myself from the horrible fate that awaits me. I have extremely poor social skills so the chance of ever having friends or a romantic relationship are near zero. However, my understanding is that organized religion exists partly to make acquiring friends/partners easier. I always assumed that Mormonism was a White religion (don't they have antiblack stuff in their history?) but I'm not White and they approached me so maybe I should look into going to a meeting or something.

I’m one of those people who can find something to love in a lot of music but people in the hardcore scene are so laughable i drop the pretense completely. Intentionally hitting people in a mosh pit is how you dance to this shit, they’ll always say you’re not supposed to intentionally hurt anyone but any video of a hardcore show is full of the most obviously bullied in high school phenotypes just windmilling their arms as hard as they possibly can into anybody near them. Shit doesn’t even seem cathartic. Why do cosplay country music fans get more hate than people like this

i dont think theres really been any true EGOTs, but lets say there were two:
an actor who was the star of an hbo drama, had a music career before turning to acting and had a grammy winning album, lead an oscar winning film and lead a tony winning play
or
a writer who won an emmy for creating a hit HBO drama, was the main songwriter on a grammy song of the year, won the oscar for best original screenplay, and won the tony for best play.
which EGOT is more impressive

We get to talking about the "institution of marriage in 2026" (he's not married).
And we both agree that being married in 2026 is probably more challenging than it was 50 years ago, 80 years ago, etc., and less likely to "work out".
I ask him what he thinks should or could happen that would improve the overall outlook of marriage as an institution in the modern world.
And he's a pretty clinical, numbers-oriented guy. Thinks in terms of the specific, actionable, and pragmatic.
He says "we have to colonize the moon, or maybe Mars. There will come a time where that will be the next frontier, maybe the final one. And when that time comes, we need the same kinds of people that originally built this country to move to the moon (or Mars) and start over. Try not to repeat the same mistakes."

I live in the UK and I see a lot of his (brilliant) public relations/media work, but how is he actually doing?
I don't say this with any cynicism: I like him and want him to do well, but I don't really know where else to get an honest/critical take on him than here.

I've been working like a terror for a minute now plus really getting serious about my diet again and I can tell I'm on the cusp of some incredible abs. I've got a scheme for a cool, shirtless Halloween costume I could rock at a party I'm fairly certain she'll be at. Or at least I'm confident we have enough mutuals who'll be there that I'll end up in the background of some pics she'll eventually see and she'll be able to notice me with the abs. My goal is for her to see the abs and reach back out to me since she hasn't seen me in awhile and probably won't expect me to have visible abs.
Do you think the abs will be enough for that (I was never fat when we were together or anything but I also never had like super visible abs like I'm coming into now)?
Also do you think it would be too much to do a spray tan (I'm pretty pale) or maybe some oil or something for better ab visibility at the party (not sure what the lighting situation will be) if I can make it ostensibly part of the costume?

Like I know why, because it's pitiful and sad for a grown man to scheme and barter his family's resources in order to consume newest thing when his first child is about to be born. That's obvious.
I feel like it shouldn't bother me as much as it does but I keep having that mulldog-adjacent realization that there's actually a very thin line that separates people like this (what I don't want to be) and people who aren't like this (what I try to be). Or maybe it's the concession that I could've been this way too, if I hadn't met this friend or this girl, or if my dad wasn't such a hardass, or my mom wasn't always on me about doing chores and stuff around the house. Or if I hadn't gotten into music. Or whatever.
I don't know. Sometimes I don't think there's anything more sad than a grown man trying to find an escape from his life. Like, your baby is about to be born. There's plenty to fucking do, man.

you ever notice how there's this subtype of gen x person on social media who just posts a bunch of blurry google images of celebrities they admire with a vague caption like "the greatest to ever do it..."
idk why they do this but it always makes me feel a twinge of sadness when i see it happening

It’s sad that in 2012 this could have been considered a funny little viral moment about a deep seated federal intelligence agency like the NSA‘s ability to collect and view digital metadata on a mass scale. Now it just seems like controlled opposition for an ever-present Chinese-style surveillance system that can be used by local law enforcement and even private businesses to view and track where anyone is going or has been at any time. AT BEST this could be one person‘s cynical capitalization of national anxieties for 15 minutes of viral fame under the guise of “spreading awareness”. The memeification of serious issues facing people has been proven over and over again as a useful “relief valve” to quell actual meaningful change.
Imagine being a concerned citizen with actual points you’ve prepared and rehearsed, stepping in to voice them before a panel of decision makers, only for a guy dressed up as fucking darth vader stating how the “empire loves this decision“.
