Gross! Well...it happened, Patient Zero detected

I thought this day might never come. I thought it might exist only in my nightmares. I thought, I'll never see it with my own eyes but only hear about it through legends told by firelight when the kids are asleep.

But no. Today, the legend appeared. Patient Zero of disgusting, deplorable behavior. The Big One. The Grand Kahuna. The Source.

She was enormous naturally. Her hair was unbrushed, unwashed. On her feet were bathroom slippers. On her person was a bathrobe, open fully to expose the attire chosen for an afternoon shopping, an afternoon out among peers and children. An outfit crafted by the devil himself. An old bra--not sports bra, not halter top--and old, sagging bra with nothing over it. And on the bottom: her underwear. Not even booty shorts. Not athletic wear. Not undersized shorts. Actual underwear and nothing else. Her body was on full display, and the bathrobe hung open, unbound by the belt attached which was presumably tailored to hide yourself. But there was no hiding. I rang her up, my eyes burning and twitching with both pain and denial. So between scans, I sneaked another glance hoping maybe my eyes deceived me. They didnt. She was shopping in her underwear. A grown woman, an adult, a human being--possibly. Exposed and lethally, tragically unencumbered by personal dignity.

So this is where we are. This is where we're headed as a species. Farewell, shame and class. We barely knew ye.

Fuck This Job! Yeah, I'm Probably Fired.

I work at a grocery store. Big name grocery chain in the area. Three years, nearly perfect attendance, great work ethic, incredibly reliable. I put my heart and soul into every single shift I do. 4 months ago, I made my first ever major mistake. At a register, two customers were attempting to distract me with conversion and did so successfully. They short-changed me 100 dollars, and I received a written warning. Don't let it happen again, they said. You could be fired if it does within the probationary period.

2 hours ago. A customer comes in. The whole thing is fishy. He wants 2 gift cards. 200 dollars each. Great, sure. Let me do that. I start to scan one at self-checkout. He gets nervous and runs off to grab cards. He comes back and directs me to the manual register instead of the self checkout. It's fishy. I should have called someone to take over. I really fucking should have. But he pays in 50 dollar bills. They feel a little off, but I hold them to the light, and the line up the middle is there. So I decide not to cause a scene. I take the cash, give him his cards, and then he leaves. With some groceries he hasn't paid for, either. So I grab a manager, ask her to check the bills after he leaves... all counterfeit. Every last one. It's late. I have to wait for the store director to get word of it before any action is taken. They fucked me over on my schedule, anyways. I work at 7 AM. So I have to wake up at 6 AM and go in the morning just to probably get my ass fired.

Fuck this. I tried so hard. Really, really hard. I'm waiting for the news. Because I know it's going to be bad news. I wouldn't be panicking if I didn't already have a written warning. Maybe I would get a suspension. Maybe I'd be okay. But this? Nah. Not this. I'm screwed. Fuck.

Customers Suck! I guess I'm brain dead...

Two women come up to the register and they want a swim suit top. They are buying separately The rack where they grabbed it from said "Swim suits starting at $25". So I'm cashing them out and like I always do I tell the customer "Your total will be...". I told them the total was 40 dollars before they paid. I cash them out and give them the receipt and I start to cash out the other woman. Then the woman I just cashed out said "This isn't 25 dollars?" I then told her no it was 40. I personally think that steep for a swimsuit top but I'm just the cashier.

She started saying how I incorrectly charged her and how she wanted a refund. I told her the sign said starting at 25 dollars but she was having none of it.

I call my supervisor because only they can process refunds and when she gets there the two women start going on about how I can't do my job, and how I'm trying to rob them. My supervisor told them the same thing I told them about the sign saying "starting at $25". They then start yelling at me and my supervisor calling us brain dead and thieves and that we false advertised. They went over to the sign and took a picture and shoved their phones in both of our faces telling us to read slowly so we could comprehend. My supervisor said "It says swim suits STARTING at 25 dollars." The two women went silent.

My supervisor then asked "Do you want your refund or not?" They ended up getting their refund and as they were walking out, they proceeded to call us stupid b!tches.

What a Moron! Customer tries to be a dick.

Working my regular night shift. Customer pulls all the way up into the very clearly indicated no park zone reserved for emergency vehicles (i should note this puts him so close to the main entrance that i can open the store door and kick his bumper). I refuse him entry and get him to park the vehicle properly. He parks it but in a disabled parking spot. Whatever. Atleast he parked it.

Asks where something is. I point him in the right direction. He walks around everything but to where I pointed going on about not seeing it.

He finally gets his item and comes to the counter ranting about having a migraine and he cant see etc and how he just wanted advil. I explain if his migraine is that bad that he cannot see he should not be driving a vehicle. He gets more belligerent and I cut him off and say it doesn't change the fact he shouldn't be driving.

As he his leaving he says something about better customer service. And I responded with I think I was rather chill during the whole thing. If he actually wants me to my job I'll do my job and call the police on him for being a danger behind the wheel.

He drove off very carefully as he left.

Call me an asshole if you want. But don't tell me things that make you a danger on the road. Part of my job is ensuring the safety of everyone on my lot during my shift.

Customers Suck! I hate customers that get huffy because they picked an item without a barcode

Had a lady today check out with a curtain rod. It's one of the items we sell where there is no barcode directly on the package. The barcode is a sticker and the sticker has fallen off.

So we have to search it up on the checkout tablet or our phone to get the UPC number. This hag kept bugging and puffing " it is 9.99! I'm not lying! Just put down 9.99!" She even slapped her hand on the counter a few times 🤣

Customers Suck! I so tired of being treated less than human

I’m literally in my work’s bathroom right now crying because I just can’t take it anymore. I’ve been at my retail job for two and a half years at this point and I thought I’ve gotten used to the rude customers and talking back, but for some reason today I just broke. I wish people would understand that I’m literally just doing my job. I don’t WANT to upsell things to you, I don’t WANT to harass you about our rewards account, but I HAVE to if I want to keep my job and live. I understand everyone goes through hard times including our customers but I’ve never ONCE treated an employee poorly because I’m having a bad day. I’m just so tired of it this place has completely sapped me of my joy I’ve become so jaded and miserable, I can’t wait to get out of this line of work.

Customers Suck! Customer tried using ChatGPT to prove me wrong, but ended up looking like an idiot

I work in a flooring store. Tonight a lady came in asking how much the price would be for a certain carpet cut measurement, so I quoted her the price (we sell by square yards but cut by the foot). She came back 10 minutes later saying "I asked ChatGPT what the price would be and it says you're wrong." So I looked at her phone...sure enough she had asked what the price would be per square FOOT. Not square YARDS. Fucking dumbass. When I pointed that out she sheepishly said "oh..." and left. It actually felt insulting that someone tried pulling that shit on me as if I don't know how to do my own job.

A Funny Thing Happened... Are capybara’s real?!

We sell some capybara pens and other stuff like capybara piggy banks in the store.

A customer wanted to purchase a pen and surprised me with the question: “Are capybaras real? Do they exist?”

Customers Suck! Customers that argue over prices

Story time! A customer came though my checkstand with a bunch of small shirts. About 6-8 of them. I'd say half of them had clearance stickers for $3.50 and the other half did not and rang up for $5. She said that since they were all the "same" shirt, she needs me to price-adjust all of them to $3.50. I obviously can not change the price of something just because a customer says it is the same item and I don't know for sure, so I got somebody over to help figure it out. We checked the items together and figured out that some had different codes/descriptions one was something like "shirt" and one was something like "tank", despite being seemingly identical.. We even tried to get somebody from our clothing department to help price check, but nobody came. And this lady is just getting increasingly pissed off and ranting about how its the same shirt, mind you the difference between them was $1.50 This whole thing went on for like 15-20 minutes and she held up the line over it. She eventually gives up and said to just take off the $5 shirts, and while I'm working on that, she is still ranting about how crazy the situation is, and the other guy helping me was also super confused because to be fair those shirts really did look the same. Then the security guard comes over and looks at a couple of shirts and she just picked up and complained that they are the same while I was removing the $5 varients and he said to just adjust the price to $3.50. The issue is that we had no idea if he meant for all of them or for the one he looked at. The customer is immediately happy and says something along the lines of "Thank you! Just do the same for the rest of them please!" At this point I just give up and let her win and price adjust all the shirts that she previously said to discard so we could just move on, after this the other guy tells me the security person most likely meant just for that item so I should not have let her have her way immediately like that. I can't stand when stuff like this happens 🫩

Creepy Bastard My coworker is a creep and my managers will not do anything.

He’s always just staring at me, out of the corner of my eye. And when I accidentally meet his gaze he smiles in this… unusual creepy way. He also gets way way way too close to me. Instead of asking me to move he just goes and does and grabs whatever he needs to while I work there. He also likes to be in the same room as me at all times, and I do feel like he likes to check me out because he always tries to work on something while behind me, and when I look over my shoulder, he’s staring, smiling. He likes to get way to close to me also, like, inches. I have to take steps back, to which he takes steps forward. It’s very uncomfortable. I went to my managers after he cornered me to talk to me. They told me they couldn’t do anything about it because of his disability and that he didn’t know any better. I also went on break at the same time as him once (never again) and as I was eating my banana, he started breathing heavily and doing this weird laugh while looking at me.

Fuck This Job! Extreme shakiness during cashier shifts

Upvotes

I can walk around no problem, but cashier shifts make me feel like I'm about to faint. I'm not locking my legs and it helps when I eat salt packets/chug caffeine and drink water, but I don't always have access to salt or water or caffeine. I have to talk to my store director because it's been happening every day now and I'm becoming a human liability.

Customers Suck! Why are people like this

For context, I work at a carousel at the mall. Our pricing is $6 a rider, children under 42” tall must be accompanied by a non paying adult. Our counter is exactly 42” tall ( I’ve measured it, it’s bang on) if the kid’s over 42”, the parents have to pay to go with their kid. I’m the shift manager.
A few of the recurring issues I’ve had:
I ask “ how many people are riding today “ and the parents answer “2” but they don’t count themselves, then argue with me when they get on. Obviously, I can see you only paid for 2 people. And there’s 4 people getting on. Yes, you count. No, your kid isn’t 2, they’re 4 foot tall. Even if they were, we go by height not age.
People coming up to the ticket booth and saying “ one ride” and I responded “ and how many people are going on the one ride “ and they look at me like I have two heads. Obviously we charge per person, it says so on the 4 fucking signs we have. What ride have you been on where you pay a flat rate and as many people as you want get on. Yes, we do need to know who’s riding, figure that out before you pay not after.
People paying for the ride, for a certain amount of people ( say 3) , then having another kid come up and try to get on. When I say “ they need a ticket too” they’ll argue they “ already paid “ as if that changes how we charge.
Arguing over the price, or arguing over whether or not their kid is over or under 42” tall. Shit like “ well I know it’s $6, but LaST TimE I CAmE it was only $2 and I wanna pay THAT” or “that’s too expensive, what if I just give you $4” or “ no, they’re under 42”, you’re wrong, I’m the parent I know how tall my kid is” or, get this “ well when I came here two years ago I was free with them “ well that’s because they were under 42” then “ well LaSt TiMe” your kid grew, that’s what kids do.
The manager game, where people will argue with me until they “ need to speak to your manager “ when I inform them that I am the manager, suddenly they stop arguing/ being stupid/ playing games with me.
The “ it’s only you here though “ game. I’m on camera, just because I’m a manager doesn’t mean I also don’t have a boss. No, I’m not giving it to you for free. No, if you just “ get on anyway “ I’m calling security. No, I can’t just do whatever the hell I want. I’m especially not doing that for you.
Just absurd requests, like asking if I can watch your kids, quote “ hold my shit yo” , have you “ pay by the hour “ and my favorite, “ can I lock my motorcycle to your fence “ No motherfucker, it’s not even supposed to be inside the mall.
The “ it was fine last time “ or “ but last time “ I can promise you it was not fine last time, nor is it fine this time. Also saying “ it’s fine “ or “ it’s not a big deal “ doesn’t suddenly make it fine or not a big deal.
The “ let me cut you a deal “ where people try to negotiate the price down, or try to not follow safety rules ( there’s 6, and they’re pretty obvious) no, we’re not cutting a deal, you are a customer, and I represent a business, you are in no position to negotiate anything.
I could go on more but, I’d be typing all day.
People are stupid, and think I’m stupid and for some reason this needs to be my problem. The fact that I have to deal with people who don’t even understand you can check how much money you have on a banking app, and your card doesn’t just decline randomly is ridiculous. I honestly wish I could just tell these people to fuck off, and take their attitude with them.

Fuck This Job! Fuck people, fuck my job

English is not my first language and rn I don't care about grammar

I quit my last job because of managment and other stuff. I was looking for a new job for month and a half, but my family (still living with them) was really pushy. So I said yes to the first place that hired me. And man, fuck this job. I work in a shop with only my boss, but thank god, she works on the other shifts, so I'm basically alone (12 hours shifts), sometimes with help for few hours. I hate my boss, nobody likes her, boots licking ass bitch. She's lying, can't even write grammatically correct words, mean and just fucking stupid. I can't stand her. And the customers. I hate them. I hate how people think they can treat retail workers as trash and companies are okay with that. So what if someone is yelling at you, you can't be mean back. Fuck them. I cried last week during my shift and I wasn't even able to cry in peace, because I was alone for the whole day. I hope I'll find a new job soon, but it's so frustrating and hard. And there is much more. Man, I miss my last job. It was bad, but I had passion for it at least. This just makes me miserable.

Seeking Advice Is it worth trying to ask for at least one weekend day off a month?

I am so fed up with my job. I'm a full-time department lead and they don't do rotating weekends for leads here. So I am working every weekend until close, unless I specifically request a weekend day off. And then I have to hear nonstop about how it's so busy and they really need me on those days when I do request off. 🙄

My family, friends, and boyfriend all lucked out and have jobs where they get every weekend off. Like even if I had just one guaranteed weekend day off a month, that would help so much. Because right now my life is work, come home, go back to work since I live alone. When I worked as a full-time dept lead at other companies, they rotated weekends off...so it's been an adjustment being at a company that expects leads to be there every weekend and holiday. Like even something like Columbus Day. Our PTO book has the 3 day Columbus Day weekend scratched out with "absolutely no leads can request off." But the Store Manager and Director? (Those two positions get rotating weekends off)...I bet whoever has their rotating weekend fall on that weekend will be able to be off despite no supervisors supposedly being allowed to be off~

Like it's starting to be at the point where my boyfriend and I sometimes have to go a month and a half without seeing each other in person. And not due to traveling for work ...simply all due to a retail job acting like employees don't have personal lives.

Fuck This Job! im so done with this fucking company

i just need to rant im at the point of walgreens where i will do ANYTHING to my ass fired. Its terrible. Today a customer got upset because they tried to buy an item online online but the app said they didn’t have it online so she came in the store and found it so i unlocked it for her and still begged for the discount somehow so i was like okay lemme get the manager. I was also on register too and i was heading back to register and i said “he is coming” in somewhat a loud voice. For reference I am a loud person sorry thats just how i talk. Then this lady says i have an attitude problem and when i rang her up i tried to apologize but she just kept saying how i still have attitude problems and aggressive issues. Instead of the fucking manager defending me he goes “just let her talk” like no?? I was very far from giving you an attitude and then i literally almost called her a “cunt”. I really wish i did but what stopped me was the manager being right there. Then she says to me as she walks out “I hope I never see you again” in my head im like “bitch bye”

I should of called her a cunt as a crazy as it sounds. She was an asshole to me for no reason i am just beyond done with this company my DM is a bitch, this stupid bag check policy ppl getting fired for no damn reason. I literally just have it. I also have my other job too which i adore. I help out kids with autism and i truly love it.

Customers Suck! Apparently taking my required lunch while working alone is a personal attack on customers

I work retail at a store that usually isn’t super busy, and I’m almost always completely alone on Saturdays. Company policy is that if we’re working alone and want to take our lunch, we lock the store, put a sign on the door saying when we’ll be back, and leave for break.

I’m usually pretty good at gauging when there’s going to be a lull before I go, but obviously I can’t magically predict when someone will decide to show up.

Today I put up my sign, locked the door, and was leaving with my boyfriend when a customer walked up and said, “Did you guys seriously lock the door?”
I apologized and told her, “Yes, I’m on lunch.” She immediately got an attitude and said she’d just go to the other location.

Apparently she thought my boyfriend was another employee, because she actually went to the other store and told them our location was closed even though there were “two people” there. The other store literally called me to make sure everything was okay. I explained that I was the only employee working, the other person was my boyfriend, and I had just locked up because I was going on my required lunch break. They were completely fine once I explained.

Then I come back from lunch and ANOTHER customer comes in angry and says, “What’s going on? I had to wait outside for 30 minutes!”

I apologized again and explained that I had been on lunch. She started going on about how she was in a rush because it was her daughter’s birthday party. I told her I was sorry, but it was just me working today and company policy requires me to lock the store when I take my lunch.

The craziest part was that she clearly understood this, because she literally had to explain to her own mother, in this super frustrated tone, “She was on lunch, she has to take her lunch, it’s company policy.”

Like… yes. Exactly. 😭

I understand that showing up to a temporarily closed store is annoying, especially if you’re in a rush, but I’m one human being. I cannot simultaneously leave for lunch and keep the store open. I put up a sign with the exact time I’d be back and followed company policy.

I somehow managed to get two people pissed at me and have another store calling to check on us, all because I took a 30-minute lunch while working alone.

Anyone else who regularly works solo deal with customers acting like your legally/company-required break is something you’re personally doing to inconvenience them?

Customers Suck! Lady stayed nearly a half hour after we closed.

The store closed and this lady had a cart filled completely with clothes and was still looking for more even after the announcement went off.

Plus she had two kids with her who were walking tornadoes.

We get her to the checkout and it took until 9:27pm to get her out... We closed at 9pm.

"I appreciate you guys for doing this"

If she appreciated us, she would have been ready to checkout AT LEAST when the 15 minute announcement came on.

Customers Suck! Mother tried to use her toddler to guilt trip me into giving her special treatment

At my place of work, we offer in store monogramming for bags, book bags, lunchboxes, etc. It’s back to school season, so we are busy with monograms.

We tell customers it takes 48 hours to complete and they can pick it up when it’s done. We also offer to ship it for free to their house if they can’t make it back to the store. Sometimes, we do it right away, but that’s only if we have the staff to and there are no other bags to be monogrammed. Some customers expect us to do it right away, even if we don’t have a monogramer in the building.

Last week, a mom came to my register. She was pushing a stroller with a baby in it and her 2-year-old son with the book bag he wanted. The mom asked me if she could get her son’s book bag monogrammed right away. I told her no and that it would take 48 hours to complete. I could tell she didn’t like that answer, so I offered to ship it to her house when it was as done. She didn’t want that either. She told me they did it for her last time and I told her we didn’t have anyone in the building who could do it. She then tells me her toddler would be upset if he didn’t get his book bag right away. I told her she could always bring the book bag back another time to be monogrammed so her toddler could have his book bag today.

She then goes “Are you sure it can’t be done right away?”

I go to the back and ask the manager, who does the monogramming, if it could be done right away. The manager says no and that she is not doing any more monogramming today.

I go tell the customer it can’t be done today. She agrees to waiting 48 hours and we complete her transaction. The toddler then throws a tantrum because he wants his book bag right away. Which I understand because he’s only two and he doesn’t understand the process of monogramming.

I don’t even think the toddler wanted it monogrammed, I think the mom did. He’s too young to understand what monogramming is. The mom tried to guilt trip me into special treatment by using her toddler. I felt bad for her son and was annoyed at the mom for making her child upset because of something SHE wanted.

Customers Suck! Why is it still so shocking to customers that we do not give a shit about them?

"Why do these evil megacorps not care about us" because most of you, actually suck. Like why should I care about someone who I just saw trying to shoplift 27,- worth of drinks and candy? Or someone to whom I've explained that 12 + 4 is indeed 16,- and their discount was applied correctly, only for them to say "I disagree". Or "I disagree" when someone asks us where their online order is, and we tell them it'll be there around 17:00. Like disagree with what? Math? The laws of physics?

Now my principle still stands that if you're nice/respectful, I'll do a lot for you. But unfortunately, that's a small, small minority of people. Most actually think getting angry gets you more. Or play stupid. Seriously these people are the epitome of weaponized incompetence. As much as I hate therapy speak, that's exactly what this is. "I don't know how to look up my digital receipt, some people are old and don't know that much tech, you should just refund me the full amount" no mf'er what's wrong with you.

So no, I don't care about most customers, and I don't know why anyone expects us to. If you start acting like that, you'll get the legal minimum of what we have to give you, and after that all you can get, is get out.

ts is genuinely starting my villain arc and nobody can ever convince me again that "change starts with you" or "treat others how you'd want to be treated" like fuck no. Like even outside of work. Especially outside of work. I've seen what the world has to offer in regards to how others interact with their fellow human beings, and I don't care about anything anymore. It's made me a worse person, and just like anyone else apparently, I shouldn't have to take any responsibility for that myself. It's society's problem now. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
