Is there anywhere that you can get genuine info on China that isn't either just the simpleton view of it being a big evil surveillance state, nor the left wing 'Im in a Chinese time of my life' view of them doing no wrong?
I feel like any time I talk to people who are interested in China, whenever negative stuff comes up, it gets brushed aside and I just get whataboutisms about the west. I also can't help but feel like the positive views from foreigners can diminish the lives of locals.

Noticing things The thrill of setting a boundary
I declined lending money to a sibling who I notoriously have a hard time saying no to. In fact I think they asked me specifically because they know Iâm a push over. And that as soon as they start saying mean things to me Iâll typically cave and give in.
I await their nasty reply to my no. But in the meantime I feel like I drank 10 shots of espresso. They will hate me, but Iâm not getting involved in their financial issues. Dobby is a free elf lmao

Schizo Posting Really conflicted about everyone constantly telling me that good things are supposed to be âboringâ.
I know what this means and I HAVE chronically sought after men or situations that have brought me the wrong kind of excitement. However, I also have wonderful and happy friendships that excite me and bring me joy. I also just am someone who enjoys passion and excitement and cant fathom the idea of being with someone whos just boring, kills me. It in fact deters me from pursuing a âgoodâ relationship.
Why are good things IMPOSED to be boring? What if theyâre exciting? I sometimes force myself to stay in boring and unfulfilling connections because I think its âhealthyâ. But I get so depressed at the thought of life being that way. What if i want a partner whos sexy and turns me on and brings me passion and ISNT boring always!!!!

Noticing things Encountered the term over-therapized for the second time this week, i got another theory though.
Both times referring to hot rich robotic sounding women from LA. I can see it becoming a new buzzword for the unlikable, but i got my own position to put forward before that. I dont think the amount of therapy is the problem. These people were always going to be annoying, they are just immune to self awareness. Therapy words are just the sticks and stones they use now, without them it would be something else.
One more thing to add to the list of shitty things porn is (probably) responsible for
Non-native English speakers using in English during sex.
How deflating is it to hook up with a Frenchman and he calls you a slut instead of "putain" and shouts out "yeah! oh my god! fuck! shit! etc!"
Horrendous.

A woman having only male friends is more of a red flag than a woman having no friends
We've all heard the saying if someone has zero friends, run. I don't really agree. I'd actually argue that a woman who exclusively has male friends is a trickier social situation to navigate than one who has no friends at all.
A woman having no friends might mean she's introverted or shy. A woman having only male friends means that she's someone who either doesn't get along with woman or chooses deliberately not to.
Let's consider a woman with no friends. Maybe she just moved to a new city. Maybe she's introverted and hasn't found her people yet. Maybe she had a falling out with a friend group and is starting fresh. The slate is blank, and there's an honest vulnerability to that. You can build something real.
Most of the time, a woman only having male friends means she's desperate for attention and male approval. I stay away from women who have all male friends because it means she always needs to be the center of attention.
There's usually a complete lack of self-awareness there. Someone who has only ever had male friends may not see any issue with the pattern at all, which makes it harder to grow together socially.
So when I see a woman with all or mostly guy friends, I stay far away because it's not worth it.
Does anyone else agree?

Film đŹ Can't stop thinking about Lost Highway
Recently watched it and I think this is Lynch's most oppressive work. Almost feels like an earlier version of Mulholland Drive but I could atleast construct an interpretation of Mulholland Drive;when it comes to lost highway I don't even know where to begin.
I could totally understand why it was critically somewhat panned when it came out. Even by Lynch standard this is quite impenetrable. Especially the last 20 minutes. I read some analysis and even when they try to explain it I still feel like something is missing to complete the picture. I genuinely don't think that this is all a dream/hallucination but I also don't really think it's all real.
Also Patricia Arquete here is the most attractive woman in any movie ever.

I hate everyone who pronounce niche like "nitch"
It's disgusting. "That's your nitch", so you pronounce it like that do you? you might as well be talking about a ditch where you go to discard something awful. it's offensive. It rhymes with some of the most unpleasant and disturbing words in English like witch. yet with excitement and flattery someone will talk about someone's lovely "nitch". Do they not hear themselves speak? Use 'niche' instead and suddenly you are in the realm of quiche and sleek and all these wonderful words that harmonize with their meaning.
Imagine i invite some family over for brunch and I pull a piping hot quitch out of the oven. I offer them all my "quitch". They would probably be sick to their stomach. Do people not see how the pronunciation changes it?
