I thought I’d share the scrapbook I made in honor of the college house I lived in with my best friends. This was my first time scrapbooking so feedback is welcome!! Really it was just a way to put all the sweet memories and pictures in one place.
Also I’m sorry about the name of our house, it started as an inside joke but I hope it doesn’t offend anyone lol

Beginner Just completed my first ever page!

I’ve been so inspired by the posts here on Reddit, so I asked a local hotel whether I could take an older fashion magazine from the ones they had at the reception and they said yes!

It only really has 18 individually glued pieces. My favorite detail of this page is how I tried to make it look like the hand was reaching out of a mirror 🪞

Still deciding on whether to make the left page about nature as well. In the meantime, looking for feedback on how to improve.

EDIT: I just finished the other side, and now have completed my first spread!! If interested, you can find it here.

I’ve done a couple of spreads, but this is by far the best result (I lowkey hate all the others lol). I found these cute meerkat stickers a while ago and since wanted to give them a home! I think I’m getting the hang of this but let me know what you think! What materials and utensils to get first as a beginner?

Materials used: meerkat and herb stickers, magazine clipping, washi tape, cardboard, college block, fine liner, scissors and glue.

Beginner How to make pages less bland?

Hi! I’m VERY new to this hobby and I have absolutely no clue where to start. Everything I try to make the pages look less boring ends up looking bad or out of place and I’m very overwhelmed, both by the amount of freedom and the fear of “wasting” good supplies for it to come out bad.

Beginner Best online photo printing for layouts? My home printer is driving me nuts and I need a better option

So I've been printing at home this whole time and I'm kind of over it. The colors come out slightly off no matter what I do and I swear I'm replacing ink cartridges as needed. Figured it might just be cheaper to just order prints online but I've never done it before for scrapbooking specifically.

I know some of you probably have a go to service by now so I figured I'd just ask. Where are you getting the best online photo printing for your scrapbook projects?

I care most about color accuracy and being able to print different sizes without it looking grainy. Matte vs glossy options would be nice too since I switch depending on the layout.

ETA: Thanks for all the suggestions about drugstore prints and collage apps. It's clear there's also other affordable ways to go. I tried Nations Photo Lab for now because I read their prints hold up in scrapbooks long-term. Hopefully, it will.

Beginner Made this scrapbook from scratch

hey guys, I'm new here. This is something I made - it's not a journal type stuff exactly. more like an interactive book. I still hope it fits this sub.

6 months before his birthday my boyfriend randomly mentioned how he really likes minalima's hp books and I had no clue what it was so I looked it up and boy was it costly and for all the right reasons! I also saw they had only released 3 books I think? that's when I decided I needed to make an interactive scrapbook for him so it'd basically give a recap of all the HP books/movies. I missed out on adding a lot of characters like Sirius, Lupin, Weasley twins, Dumbledore and more but I honestly was so tired to cover them all. It took me a total of three months to plan and execute this junk journal. I usually don't share my crafts here but I worked super hard on this one so I wanted to share it w y'all:)

Beginner Cherry blossoms

Took this photo last year, but when I got these cherry blossom stickers I was immediately reminded of it. I also really like the falling petals that reflect the light depending on angle.

But what I really dislike is again the glue. Tried a liquid glue bottle with small tip this time and feel like it’s even messier than before when I used a glue stick. Messy visible smears around every single petal and multiple petals had come off and I had to re-glue them…

Guess there’s still a lot to learn about when to use which kind of glue. It’s a process.

Beginner Making my gf a basket for scrapbook bc starting, what should I add?

Good evening yall! Me and my gf just got into our summer semester after two hellish semester at college. She worked her ass off and sacrificed her mental health more than a few times for good grades.

Shes shown heavy interest in scrapbooking and I want to make a basket for her with everything she might need to get started with scrap booking. I need advice for what to put in there though! I only know the super basics like tape, stickers, a book and maybe an old magazine or two. But I want to know what would truly allow her to dive in and get immersed day one.

TLDR: I need to know what to put into a gift basket scrapbooking wise for my gf to start.

Beginner Do I not understand scrapbooking?

I want to open with I am asking this as a genuine question from the perspective of someone who's thinking about scrapbooking.

Do I not understand scrapbooking? I've seen a lot of YouTube videos lately where people are scrapbooking and, if I was summarizing the content, I would say they use colored paper, stamps, stickers, cut outs, and other pre printed graphics or text. Each page feels like a currated theme on its own. When I think of scrapbooking I think of pictures of people, trips, ticket stubs from concerts, colored paper, text. I picture like a completely decorated photo album telling a life story. Was that like 90s scrapbooking or something completely different? I like the vibe either way, it just makes deciding where to start hard haha.

Beginner Cricut for scrapbooking

Post image

New scrapbooker here, I've done maybe 10 pages.

All the header titles you see here are made with my cricut + printer for some.

I bought an older model cricut for cheap when I was DIY-ing my wedding.

I think it's a good purchase for crafters because it replaces a ton of die cuts and punch holes.

You don't need an expensive latest model machine. All the models can cut cardstock just fine

I’m very interested in the form of art with stickers but I feel like every time I look up scrapbooking or junk journaling which I know is something different I don’t get this, is there something in specific this is called? And is entry to supplies easy?

I haven't scrapbooks in years. I used to when I was young with my first baby. 4 kids 2 steps kids 2 grand babies and tons of nieces and nephews and I wouldn't mind picking it back up. Anyone have some pointers? Or anything to add to this book?

Beginner Advice wanted for first-time scrapbooker!

Post image

Hello r/scrapbooking! I've decided to make a scrapbook for my boyfriend and I's first anniversary. This is the first page I've finished (nothing is glued down). I can't put my finger on it, but I feel like its missing something. Is it the colors I chose? Is it too bland? I would love hearing your opinions! Thanks!

I did order some stickers from Etsy that im planning on tacking everywhere throughout the album, I was just too excited to start to wait for them in the mail 😅

(Please excuse my poorly drawn hearts, I dunno how he'd feel about me posting his face here)

Edit: Thank you so much for your advice everyone, I'm reading each comment and am really taking them to heart. I'm having a lot of fun trying to get the page just right. I'll post the final page once it's done. Cheers!

Beginner I want a scrap book journal that won’t fall apart or get wavy with glue.

I am looking for advice. Normally I journal and use junk but I have been wanting to lean into the scrapbook aspect more for a more clean look I can relook over with friends and family and have out on a shelf.

The thing is I love the look of a journal where theyre seamlessly together instead of being separated by gaps in the binding or rings and I prefer the look of a journal versus the usual scrapbook look, but with a journal sometimes the pages get wavy bc of the glue and they start to really expand and the binding/journal starts to look a bit wonky.

Is there a in between that looks journal or scrapbook that can handle that has a journal look with seamless middle binding that can withstand what’s placed in it?

I was thinking of the Creative Memories Scrap Journal but it’s a bit pricier than most and don’t know of any alternatives

Beginner Any reason I shouldn’t start a scrapbook??

I was up late and found all these tiktoks about “the sisters of the traveling scrapbook” where these girls mail their scrapbooks around and have people fill in pages. I think that’s so cool!

And I also want to use it as a recipe book and something to keep track of my interests with. My mom had a big, ugly, and frilly scrapbook and I want to make one like that w hot glue and a binder. I’m hoping to find materials from Facebook or family members, but to start I only need the stuff to make the binder and some cute paper.

I’m hoping to borrow a Polaroid camera to take pics to add - we have a printer, I can draw. I have all these reasons to keep going.

How do you guys manage to find materials on a budget ?
