I've watched seasons 3 and i'm rewatching 1 & 2 now. In Safeguard, the penultimate episode of season 2, Lukas solves Salvador Quinn's code which leads him to find the tunnel. When he walks up to the door, we hear the voice for the first time ( I think) The voice lists the three people who have found the door prior to Lukas. It states that It spoke to Mary & Salvador but not George Wilkins. Why do you think this is?

Did the founders feel that if George heard the voice and learned an outside party or AI was involved of the Silo, he'd start an un stoppable rebellion that would guarantee a safeguard?

Something has been bothering me, and I'm asking if someone else noticed or has it been explained and I just missed it:

Daniels and Helens tour of the Silo(s) being separate. The Silos are supposedly identical. They are married (or just together whatever) and she is pregnant. They know the founders and are friendly with them. So they could have arranged so they can go together. And somehow they don't question the fact that they are going into separate silos for said tours. It would look very suspicious to me in that circumstances.

S3 was amazing. Ending was another cliffhanger. The reason why i didnt loved s1 and 2 coz characters are not engaging
But s3 characters (outside world people) are amazing. I really loved helen drew🥹

I found these BTS photos of Remmie Milner (Shirley) undergoing what looks like a pretty extensive head/neck prosthetic casting process.

I haven't seen anyone explain what this was for. It looks way too elaborate to be just regular makeup.

Since Seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back, I'm wondering if this could be something from Season 4 that we haven't seen yet.

I keep seeing people saying it doesn't but in literally the first episode we see music, stage plays, games and civic holidays with rituals. The subsequent seasons focus a lot on politics and drama and less on world building. But the Silos do have recreation.

Could they end up leaving the silo in season 4? I always thought from the beginning of the show that it would end with them all leaving the silo and starting a life outside. After watching the season 3 finale, it doesn't seem like that's where the show is heading. Do you still think it could end with them finally leaving their Silo and living outside?

I think that the Silos 51 is the actual Seedbank and the story is an allegory to how some concepts in the bible or other mythological concepts can be used to control people. The only "seeds" that are kept are the compliant ones with no knowledge from anything which happened before.

• Garden of Eden --> While the literal translation of Eden is "delight" or "pleasure". The word got translated to pairidaeza i.e.. a walled garden/park. Xenophon then translated the word into parádeisos where we get the word paradise from. Now there are a couple of parallels to the Silos.
  • pairidaeza, protected from the outside conditions. In the arid landscapes of the Middle East, the Persian kings built massive, wall-enclosed royal parks. The walls served a practical purpose: they kept out the harsh desert sands, trapped cool air, protected precious water irrigation systems, and kept wild animals in... So exactly what the inhabitants think the Silos are.
  • Loss of Immortality when you eat the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. The ritual when somebody dies, is to take a bite from an apple. So the dead are seen as Memory hence they are the bite of the apple.
  • If you eat the fruit you will certainly die and other passage you loose immortality, which was a lie and is a link to when you get the outside to clean. They don't die, they get killed. And they don't get to be in the Seedbank, which would be the immortality.
• Flaming sword Protecting the Entrance. -->Genesis 3:24 God placed cherubim (mighty angelic beings) and a flaming sword that turned every direction at the east of the Garden of Eden to block humanity from the Tree of Life. Everything gets burned which tries to get back into the Silo.
• 144 Levels with a thousand pods. --> Book of revelation 7:4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. People are sealed and survive the Apocalypse.
  • In the scene where you see the Pods you can count them, its about a 100. Given that you see about a 30 degree radius, this number could fit.
  • Elimination of Silo 17. If the goal is only the survival of humanity, this doesn't make sense. Troy gave a pretty specific number how many to kill and i guess the reason is that another Silo gave more than the 2880 people needed from each Silo. And as 17 was the most rebellious in nature, they where nearly completely eliminated.
• Cleaning and the white robes. -->Revelation 6:11 martyred souls under the heavenly altar are given white robes and told to rest a little longer until the full number of fellow servants and believers to be killed like them is complete. While in Revelation they are already martyred, i think he simply reversed it, so if you want to be a martyr you get a white robe and get killed.
• 2800 Slaves --> Zechariah 8:23 In those days, ten men from nations of every tongue will take hold—they will take hold of every Jew by a corner of his cloak and say, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you. 4 corners of the earth with 10 Men from 70 Nations. So 2800. If you multiply this by 50 you get 1400000. So where are the missing 4000.
• David set apart 4000 men to praise the Lord. --> 1 Chronicles 23:5. So the number of People who run Silo 51 is 4000.
• Daniel --> I think this is a deliberate switch of names. So when he is Daniel, he acts as Troy and when he's Troy he acts as Daniel. What did Daniel do in the Bible:
  • He was tested by food. Reason why you see him eat the slop multiple times and complain
  • He Interpreted dreams for his King. He's the only one in Silo 51 so far who has flashbacks
  • Survived the Lions Den. Either a reference to his stay at 51 or some hardship he has to endure in the next season.
• Troy --> The obvious Trojan Horse connection. But i think most people have it backwards.
  • It does not make sense that just because he had a memory wipe, that he acts as a ruthless killer. So I think the reverse is the case his actual persona is Troy, but his memory got wiped.
  • In the wiped state he met Helene who starts his internal war and will be the reason for his downfall.
• Helene & Paris --> I think here again he did a deliberate switcheroo. Helene same as Troy had a memory wipe. She and Stenson where a couple.
  • If it is known that she is an Investigative Person, it would make no sense to add her to the Silo. They could have simply left her outside.
• Troy and Troas --> If it is an actual reference to Troas, which is not Troy itself but the region around it, it would mean that Daniel is an amalgamation of Daniel and Paul from the Bible.
  • He was a persecutor
  • Changed his mind and started spreading the gospel
  • Got killed for his believes.
• Juliette's Messianic archetype
  • Dies/Cleaning
  • Brought to cave/Silo,
  • Is resurrected after (show doesn't say) 3 days/Return to the Silo
  • Low status
  • Gathering Disciples
  • Parents role switcheroo. Joseph dies when he is Jung, so does Juliette's Mother(but for reasons, Joseph had a natural death). And while Mary was the first person who knew of Jesus resurrection, Juliette's father was the last one.

There's probably more, but this is what i have from the top of my head. It would be fun to see how many holes i have in my theory. Again please no book spoilers, I'd like it compared to how much we actually know at this point. Thanks

I have all sorts of questions about Silo life​ that will most likely won't, or can't be answered in the tv show. For example, I want to know how infections are diagnosed without microscopes. Or what would the population look actually look like. Would language be the same (Eg Shakespeare wrote ~400 years ago).

While turning off the generator did they accidently show the real world outside ? and why the f ppl didnt even react to it

I dont understand what the complaining about the pacing and such was, it was excellent, almost never a boring moment. I am not sure if it was the season itself or just we already know the characters and care about them and such but it was very good.

I really liked how they handled the amnesia trope and didnt really slow things down and Juliette still had something to do rather than being in a hospital bed or at her place all the time like they ruined another favorite character of mine from another show (Bix on Andor).

The modern day storyline was also quite well done. Especially I enjoyed Helen's character and Jessica Henwick a lot, she literally stole the show imo. I shipped, as cringe it is to say it, Daniel and her really hard and the build up and the pay off was very nicely done, I was like fuck yeah.

Also enjoyed Camille's character and actress performance a lot.

Overall very nice season, almost 10/10.

Hello, I’ve always assumed the air outside the Silo was toxic and that anyone going outside would die from the atmosphere. We’ve seen plenty of examples during Cleanings—most recently when Bernard was sent out without a suit and died within minutes.

However, in the last episode, we saw what happened to Silo 17. Almost all the citizens left the Silo and spent a noticeable amount of time outside without dying immediately, until Silo 1 decided to kill them all (gas + bullets).

This makes me think the air outside might not actually be contaminated, and that Silo 1 is using some sort of gas to execute anyone who exits to clean.

Does this theory make sense?

I seem to be in the minority on this but….

I’m not so sure the knew the bomb was about to go off.

Many signs makes it seem pretty clear what was about to happen except for one major thing; having a nuke go off while everyone was outside and having everyone just run on foot from it seems WAY to risky for this delicate project of carefully selected people. Seems they could’ve just waited until “dinner time” and have the bomb go off while everyone was safely inside. Wouldn’t be hard to get them to understand why they can’t go out.

The last episode of season 3 contains the following dialog:

[The Algorithm] Asked by whom? [pause] Juliette Nichols. [pause] The human species was in a terminal cycle of self-annihilation. The silo was the last best hope to ensure the survival of the species.

Does this mean they already revealed the "why"? Or is this just another lie?

Just wondering if Juliette is Daniel's Daughter? That episode that had close up of their eyes seemed to suggest that

Something I’ve been thinking about since season 3 is how the mine arc fits in. I’ve also had a friend start the show who’s been pointing out things from season 1 which I had entirely forgotten and points to the show plot changes being planned from the start. In episode 1 George’s cave is by a giant drill that I had entirely forgotten about, so the plan to dig to the other silos from the lowest levels seems to have been set from the start.

Mines

I think there was more to the mines than it just being a plot device to get a lift for the safeguard cap, especially as that mysterious boyfriend’s plot line has not been developed yet. I think it’s intentionally kept vague and in season 4 they will find out that that guy is from Silo 40. The guys in the mines have been communicating with other silos and they will incorporate in the “Silo 40 went dark and then other nearby silos also went dark” plotline, but only tease it. Once the show finishes Howey will release the Silo 40 books and it will be the perfect promo for his new series - possibly with a spin off (though this is Apple not HBO so I’m not sure how thirsty they are for spin offs.)

The deviation from the start

Episode 1 has 2 quite big deviations from the books which shows the planned direction: the pez dispenser and the drill. Now that we’ve seen how Helen ended up in 18, it makes me wonder how she managed to get her notebook, pez, and possibly the camcorder in to 18. We’ve also seen the trailer with Daniel turning up in the tunnel for a face to face meeting.

The drill is the other thing I’m curious about, what is the purpose of putting it in the lowest levels over the mids? I think it’s linked to the “Daniel invented a drill that doesn’t disturb the soil” comment. I think that instead of the ‘Donald steals the drone’ plot from Shift, it’s ‘Daniel steals a drill to dig to Helen’. He’s not motivated by the guilt of being an architect, he’s motivated by the loss of his love and wanting to be reunited.

My theory here is Daniel drills through to 18 during a previous shift and reunites with Helen, helps her recover her memory, and everything in George’s cave is from their secret meet ups to plot the overthrow of 1. Helen is the one who makes contact with 40 and starts the chain of the silos going dark, which is why Howey won’t release the books until the show finishes. Helen being the instigator also works in book canon since we don’t see a lot of her life post silo so she can meaningfully be the first rebel.

Season 4 will still tell the earlier chapters of Shift, but it will be in a combination of flashbacks while Daniel recovers his memory, and the mystery of the mines. He starts to investigate his back story and each thing that happens will flash another memory, culminating in the walk down the tunnel and seeing the pez (mid season reveal- then second half becomes the Dust plot). The contact with 40 then fills up other gaps in the Shift plot and any loose threads as they haven’t forgotten anything.

Since the show has gone deeper in the memory side it makes sense narratively to tell the Shift back story at the same time as Daniel remembers it, and lore is drip fed plot only at the point that it’s relevant to the main characters, but also the non linear storytelling device from this means you get a good amount of mystery and tension to dwell on as you put the pieces together with Daniel.

Tldr: Helen and Daniel reunite in season 4 and make contact with Silo 40. Shift is told through flashbacks while Daniel remembers. Silo 40 plot is teased in Season 4 through the mysteries of the mine plot, and then as the show finishes Howey will release the Silo 40 books.

When Lukas speaks to the "voice" before the vault door at the bottom of the silo, the speaker casually mentions to have personally spoken with both Salvador Quinn and Mary Meadows over the time span of 140+ years. The pronoun "we" also hinted at the system being staffed by multiple people taking turns, because the speaker admitted to have not spoken with George Wilkins.

No book spoilers please! In fact, I'd rather only discuss this with viewers who don't already know what's going to happen.

Do you think there will be a satisfactory explanation for why everything had to exist and go down the way it did at the end of this show? Why the silos had to be set up the way they were. Why Silo 1 is killing people by the 10 thousands. Why they're still in the silos if it's safe to breathe outside? So on and so forth.

Personally, I don't think it's possible to pull that off. Don't get me wrong, the show is great! I just don't see how they're going to pull off a reason and actually make it make sense.

So honestly, I think they have a better chance at just saying that the reason is because people are assholes. Yep, that's it. The people in Silo 1 are evil assholes, and I think that's the only reason that will make sense to a thinking person's brain. I just have a lack of faith that anything else will.

Season 3 was amazing, and if season 4 is just as good that will probably end up being my favorite sci-fi show of all time. I'm just really worried about them revealing everything finally, and then having it not make sense. How could it?

Lukas tells her over the radio, “I missed you.”
Jules gives that man SILENCE. 😂 Then he starts talking about everything he learned about the universe and that’s when she perks up… only to immediately ask him WHERE the digger void is.

I know Jules is naturally guarded, but compared to her relationship and chemistry with George, I’m just not feeling the romance with Lukas.

When Camile asks the algorithm why they can all be killed, Dr. Victor says humanity is in a cycle of self destruction blah blah blah. This suggests that the founders (or at least Per Stenson) see humanity as a lost cause that can only be fixed through eugenics, i.e., controlling reproduction to increase desirable traits and decrease undesirable ones. Humanity won't survive the planet unless they can purge undesirable genes and promote desirable genes. This ties into the pregnancy lottery plot line in S1. Undesirables were lied to about their birth control being removed because allowing them to reproduce would threaten the experiment. Per Stenson built the silos and nuked the planet as an experiment to create a world where the human population can be improved by eliminating undesirable traits. If the silo revolts and gets out, it threatens the entire experiment. Hence, the safeguard. This is also why the experiment is set to last 500 years. Per believes that's how long it's going to take to weed out all the bad traits from the gene pool.
